For the residents of Maplewood Estates, a new subdivision located in Rockland, Mass., they experienced this rite of summer passage recently at the first annual Maplewood Estates Neighborhood Block party on August 24.

Many residents showed up for a barbecue, which featured food and refreshments. In addition to residents, representatives from Stonebridge, the builder of Maplewood Estates, and the Maplewood Homeowners Association were also in attendance.

You really do develop a relationship. It was nice to not only socialize with residents who have become friends, but to see new neighbors meeting other new neighbors.”

South Coast Improvement, Co. adds Franciscan Hospital in Boston, MA and Jordan Hospital in Plymouth, MA to its growing list of healthcare clients

Marion, Mass.-based South Coast Improvement, Co. recently complete project in the reception area of Franciscan Hospital in Boston, MA.

MARION, MA, BOSTON, MA and PLYMOUTH, MA…

For the past decade, South Coast Improvement Co. (SCI) has provided design/build services to long-term care facilities, rehabilitation facilities and brain trauma units throughout New England and the Mid-Atlantic states. With the recent completion of projects at Franciscan Hospital in Boston, MA and Jordan Hospital in Plymouth, SCI has expanded its services to include hospitals.

“I have always thought the work we’ve been doing for years with our renovations in occupied units for long-term-care patients and in brain trauma units would translate very well to conventional hospital work seeing how process and the finished product are just as vital in both sectors,” said Tom Quinlan, president of South Coast Improvement Co. “These two projects at Franciscan Hospital and Jordan Hospital are proof positive that what we do also works for traditional hospitals.”

At Jordan Hospital, South Coast Improvement Co. provided a complete build out for the new Outpatient Spine Clinic. The project featured a reception area, new administrative offices and multiple exam rooms.

Said Quinlan, “Getting the opportunity to work with a respected provider like Jordan Hospital was a tremendous boost. Their architect, Jaca Architects is among the most respected healthcare architects in the northeast so we knew we had to be right with our work.”

Located at 30 Warren Street in the Brighton section of Boston, Franciscan Hospital treats young children with a variety of ailments. SCI’s project included relocation of the reception desk without ever closing down the entrance lobby-a logistical challenge that SCI met by completely constructing the new reception desk off-site and preparing the wiring in advance. Installation was as simple as dropping in the desk and plugging in the electrical.

The other innovative component of the project was the millwork, which was designed to be blades of sea grass waving in the breeze. A cloud system was also constructed out of drywall and hung over the new reception desk.

“This project was unique in that the design called for a very colorful, welcoming motif that suggested a seashore yet still had to meet all of the Department of Public Health codes.” says Sean Whalen, SCI vice president of business development, who worked very closely with the architect and hospital management to bring this to fruition.

South Coast Improvement Co is a recognized leader in providing building and renovation services to a client base of senior living, healthcare and institutional clients. For more information, please call 508-748-6545 or visit www.southcoastimprovement.com.

MARION, MA, BOSTON, MA, NEWTON, MA and FRANKLIN, MA…

South Coast Improvement Company (SCI), a design-build general contractor serving New England and the Mid-Atlantic states, recently started multiple renovation projects at four major colleges and universities in Boston and the greater Boston area: Northeastern University, Boston University, Mount Ida College and Dean College.

Northeastern University contracted South Coast Improvement contracted to reconfigure parts of Dodge Hall for new administrative space. The project included a new HVAC system, sprinkler upgrades and premium finish package.

“We’ve been working very closely with the architects and the Northeastern project management team in order to bring this job to completion by the start of the fall semester,” said John Alessendrini, project manager for SCI.

At Dean College in Franklin, Massachusetts, SCI undertook two major projects. The first was the historic renovation of the building envelope of the Admissions Center. SCI stripped the building stripped of all existing siding, deleaded, and installed new HardiPlank cement board siding. Part of the project called for SCI’s Senior Vice President Henry Quinlan to design a window and door trim package that had to be approved by the Town of Franklin’s Historic Commission’s since it was a 100-plus year old building. SCI also substantially improved the efficiency of the building by installing storm window units and more insulation to the building.

The second Dean project involved SCI providing design-build services for the creation of a new Math Center. The Center includes a suite of classrooms, all equipped with the latest in audio/visual equipment.

At Boston University, South Coast Improvement was recently award four major renovation projects in the 725 Commonwealth Avenue classroom building. These projects include the reconfiguration of existing space for administrative offices. This will involve significant demolition, abatement, new HVAC and mechanicals, all new lighting as well as custom door packages and premium paint and flooring finishes. All four projects began simultaneously and required a multi-faceted critical path to success. All projects must be 100 percent complete by the beginning of the academic year.

Finally, SCI provided Mount Ida College in Newton, Massachusetts with design/build services for the new President’s offices and administrative office suite. Senior VP Henry Quinlan and John Alessendrini worked with staff to develop and design the new suites to incorporate the architectural detail of the 100-plus year old building while providing the upgrades of modern business. In addition, SCI moved the campus police station to a new location, which involved a complete build-out of an unused space.

“Like our senior living and healthcare clients, conducting a project at a college requires strict adherence to process so you minimize disruption to ongoing activities at the school. Add in a deadline of finishing work prior to the fall semester and it really shows SCI at our best,” Tom Quinlan, president of SCI. “We’re delighted to add these four institutions of higher learning to our already impressive list of institutional clients, which includes Boston College, Belmont Hill School and The Rivers School in Weston.”

South Coast Improvement Co is a recognized leader in providing building and renovation services to a client base of senior living, healthcare and institutional clients. For more information, please call 508-748-6545 or visit www.southcoastimprovement.com.

Not your typical Sunday Stroll. Run for Faith announces Stroller Division

July 15, 2013 //  by admin

Faith “Marcy” Romboldi

PLYMOUTH, MA…

People participate in road races for any number of reasons. Some need the race as a goal to get in better shape. Other runners want to top a personal best time or distance. For many runners who participate in the Run for Faith, the four-mile road race is an opportunity to bond with their child via the race’s Stroller Division.

“There are loads of road races in Plymouth but I can’t think of any that have an official Stroller Division that awards prizes for the winner,” said Matthew Romboldi, said Matthew Romboldi, Run for Faith organizer and son of Marcy “Faith” Romboldi, in whose memory the race is held. Faith lost her battle to ovarian cancer in 2010.

Adds Romboldi, “My mother was all about family and she’d be thrilled at how many families, including our own, participate in the Run for Faith. That we have a stroller division that makes it possible for even more families to participate is icing on the cake.”

The winner of the Stroller Division also get an added prize. In addition to the winner’s medal, the first place finisher for the Stroller Division will receive a complimentary massage at Equinox in Kingston, Mass.

“There’s a certain empowerment that comes with pushing your child in a stroller. It gives you an added boost to dig a little deeper, which makes finishing a race and meeting your goals even more rewarding,” said Nicole Romboldi, wife of Matthew Romboldi and mother to a three-year-old son, Charlie. “Of course, you feel it that much more after the race, which is why we are so happy to reward the winner of the Stroller Division with a free massage.”

The third annual Run for Faith 4Miler, which is a gold member in the Bayside Runner Racing Series, will take place on Sunday, August 11 at 8:30 a.m. at historic Plimoth Plantation. Entry fee is $25 – which will once again go to scholarships for Plymouth high school students, the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, the Plymouth Public Library and other Plymouth charities and non-profits (Last year’s Run for Faith resulted in two $2,500 scholarships for graduating Plymouth North and Plymouth South high school students; The Run for Faith also contributed $5,000 to Dana Farber’s Yawkey Center for Cancer Care).

The Run for Faith’s four-mile race loop includes spectacular views of Cape Cod Bay, the Eel River and scenic horse farms. The course features rolling hills and unmatched history.  Water stations are plentiful and the event is professionally timed by Spitler Racing Systems. Prizes will go to top finishers, male and female, and awards will be given to top finishers for various age groups, including a Stroller Division.

The Run for Faith is organized by Run for Faith, Inc., which is 501(c)(3) non-profit organization created to commemorate the special life of Faith “Marcy” Romboldi who gave so much of herself to both individuals and the community.

Interested sponsors can contact Matthew Romboldi at 508-400-0751. The Run for Faith’s current roster of sponsors includes: Baker’s Auto; Marty’s Buick GMC Isuzu; The East Bay Grille; Mayflower Food & Spirits; Stevens The Florist; RJF Homes; Cape Auto; G&G Silk Screen Embroidery; B&B Auto Body; Dunlap’s Propane; Associated Engineers; Wood’s Seafood; Kingston House of Pizza; Almeida Towing Service; Plimouth Plantation; Davis Carpentry; Dunlap’s Oil; Richard’s Wine & Spirits; Mike Tupper, Welding; and the Lobster Pound. North students stack DECA…Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac recognizes Plymouth North’s driven marketing students.

June 20, 2013 //  by admin

: Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac General Manager Joe Wilkerson with award-winning Plymouth North Technical Studies Marketing students and their advisor Barry Cowgill and Vice Principal A.J. Butters.

PLYMOUTH, MA…

The original Godfather movie made famous the line, “It’s not personal, it’s just business.” For Plymouth North Technical Studies Marketing students participating in the DECA competition, however, business was personal. And taking it personally resulted in 14 students making it to the international DECA career development competition held in Anaheim, California on April 23-April 28, 2013. For that accomplishment, those 14 students received the Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac Driven Student of the Month award for May.

“DECA is an international organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe,” said Barry Cowgill, advisor to the Plymouth North marketing students. “While it’s impressive enough that we had that many students make it to the international competition, three of those kids—Frank Gomes, Leif Burges and Calvin Ellis—won first place in the Knowledge Matters Virtual Business: Restaurant Simulation Event.  They beat out thousands of teams from all over the world.”

For being selected Driven Students of the Month, all 14 students were treated to a pizza party, courtesy of Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac. Students recognized included:

  • Frank Gomes
  • Calvin Ellis
  • Leif Burgess
  • Ben Pieroni
  • Shawn Westcott
  • William DiGravio
  • Catherine Achille
  • Nicole Varrasso
  • Kiley Schranze
  • Victoria Gilmore
  • Anna Colbert
  • Sarah Liscov
  • Ryan Boudreau
  • Matthew Moore

“We may be in the business of selling automobiles, but marketing drives that business. So, we have a solid appreciation of the accomplishments of these students and they are most worthy recipients of the Driven Student of the Month honors,” said Joe Wilkerson, Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac general sales manager.

Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac’s Driven Student program recognizes Plymouth high school students for their performance and achievements in and out of the classroom. Awarded on a monthly basis, recipients are selected by faculty and advisors at the student’s given school.

Carver resident Arlito Cavan the big winner at Sullivan Brothers Toyota’s $10,000 cash giveaway.

Carver resident Arlito Cavan is the big winner at Sullivan Brothers Toyota Great Cash Giveaway

KINGSTON, MA

Arlito Cavan was a fan of Sullivan Brothers Toyota long before winning the top prize of $5,000 at the dealership’s recent cash giveaway. The Carver resident has purchased 10 cars from the dealership over the years. As the winner of the largest cash award at Sullivan Brothers Toyota’s cash giveaway event, Cavan is not likely to purchase a car anywhere else.

“When we sell people an automobile, it’s more than just a business transaction. You develop a personal relationship with that customer,” said John Sullivan, who founded the Sullivan Brothers dealerships with brothers Quin and Brian in Kingston in 1986. “I think you can see that by the reaction of John Faucett, Arlito’s sales consultant.  I think he was happier for Arlito than Arlito was.”

The Sullivan Brothers Toyota cash giveaway took place on Saturday, October 27. To be eligible for one of the cash prizes–$5,000, $3,000 and $1000–entrants had to test drive an automobile prior to the event. Carol Alves won the $3,000 award, while Jaime Little, a single mother of three, won the $1,000 prize.

“Ms. Little winning was another great story. She came in  to test drive a car just for a chance to win some money. When she came into the office to receive her award, she was visibly shaken by her good fortune,” said Sullivan. “That’s what makes this cash giveaway unique. People walked out of here with some serious cash just in time for the holidays.”

In addition to the grand prize drawings, several entrants were selected to stand in a cash machine, AKA “The Blizzard of Dollars”, and grab as much cash as possible in 30 seconds. The following people won cash out of the cash machine:

  • Julie Gulterson – Kingston
  • Ken Vandal – North Dartmouth
  • Bill Wennerberg, Plymouth MA
  • Karen Young, Plymouth MA
  • Estelle Blake, Sagamore Beach
  • Joel Morgan, Plymouth

One attendee gave away her chance at the Blizzard of Dollars to Jacob Grant, a 12-year-old Plymouth resident, who proceeded to take $140 out of the cash machine.

Overall, more than 150 people attended the cash giveaway. Cat Country Radio (WCTK, 98.1 FM) broadcasted on site and handed out t-shirts and CDs to attendees. Whether it was cash, a CD, T-shirt or just a smile, everybody left a winner.

Sullivan Brothers Toyota is located at 5 Cranberry Road, Kingston MA.  781-585-1300 or online at www.SullivanBrothersToyota.com.

Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac puts it in drive. Plymouth automobile dealership teams up against hunger to support local food pantries

October 31, 2012 //  by admin

Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac teams up with the South Shore Community Action Council for a food drive to help supply local food pantries with much needed inventory for the holidays.

PLYMOUTH, MA…

Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac has partnered with the South Shore Community Action Council (SSCAC) on a canned food drive at the dealership’s 137 Samoset Street (Route 44) in Plymouth. The drive will take place during the month of November and all donated goods will go to SSCAC’s Greater Plymouth Food Warehouse, which provides food free of charge to more than 30 emergency food pantries and soup kitchens in the greater Plymouth area

“There’s no better way to express gratitude for what you have by helping out those who have not been as fortunate,” said Jeff Tracy, president of Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac. “With Thanksgiving just around the corner, we wanted to do something for families in the area who are having a tough time. We encourage everybody to stop by the dealership and make a contribution to the drive.”

The food drive tubs are located in the Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac showroom at 137 Samoset Street. Canned goods and other non-perishables are welcomed and accepted.

“We can’t thank Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac enough for hosting this food drive as our shelves are almost empty,” said Beth Thompson, Food Resources Manager at South Shore Community Action Council. “The greater Plymouth area has grown quite a bit in recent years. While that’s good on one hand, it also has meant that more people are in need of our services. That’s why we truly appreciate when a business like Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac teams up to help out.”

That kind of generosity is nothing new for Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac. Since its founding in 1992, the dealership has been involved in a number of charitable endeavors. That includes supporting The Driven Student Recognition for students at Plymouth North and South High Schools, the Boys & Girls Clubs, and many more.

For more information on Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac, visit www.tracymotors.com. To learn more about the South Shore Community Action Council, visit their website at www.sscac.org.
