“To give you an example, we cater to a number of retailers that require a logo or pattern on StaticStop ESD flooring and use it in various merchandising areas. It’s also perfect for franchise renovations,” noted Ricciardelli.

Boston Podiatrist Offers Tips to Keep Feet in Tip-Top Shape During the Holiday Season

December 3, 2012 //  by admin

‘Tis the season for sky high, closed-toe stilettos, wedges and glitzy strap sandals. But how do you ensure foot comfort and health while donning fashionable footwear for the holidays?

Boston Common Podiatry, led by established Boston podiatrist and board certified foot surgeon Jordana Szpiro, D.P.M., F.A.C.F.A.S., offers six key tips for keeping your feet in tip-top shape during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.

If you suffer from:

Hammertoes – Be sure that if you’re wearing closed-toe shoes and that they are the correct size and have adequate room in the toe box.

Ingrown toenails – Avoid pointy toed shoes or shoes that are too small.

Flat feet or fallen arches – It’s best to find shoes with good arch support. Even in high heels, certain shoes have more contoured arches than others.

Plantar fasciitis – Contrary to popular belief, flat shoes aren’t the best solution for all foot problems. Heels will actually feel better than flatter shoes, but be sure to stretch your calf and behind the ankle well before bed. If you’re having pain in the bottom of the heels, avoid any type of kitten heel.

Ankle weakness or previous foot/ankle injury – Heels make your ankles very vulnerable to inversion injuries and sprains, so it’s best to wear something with an ankle strap and thicker heel. Wedges can be particularly destabilizing.

Additionally, avoid frostbite if you are out in open sandals by wearing tights or nylons if possible. Take transportation when possible, even if you’re not travelling a great distance and have a pair of socks handy for when in transit. If you think you may have suffered prolonged exposure, soak in warm, not hot water before bed and wear warm socks to bed.

According to Dr. Szpiro, “You can still wear the hottest styles, but choose wisely. If you have ongoing foot issues, these recommendations should be taken into consideration to ensure comfort and avoid further aggravation of the foot condition.”

About Boston Common Podiatry

Boston Common Podiatry specializes in the treatment of foot conditions including pain, fractures and sports-related injuries; complicated foot conditions caused by diabetes, arthritis and cardiovascular disease; pediatric podiatry and molded orthotics. Let it snow! Snow Blower house calls?

November 28, 2012 //  by admin

On Sight Repairs offers the convenience and savings of snow blower and small engine repair and tune-ups in your driveway.
DATELINE: MARSHFIELD, MA…
Doctors may no longer make house calls, but a new service called On Sight Repairs, based in Marshfield, Massachusetts will diagnose, fix and tune up your snow blower, lawn mower, lawn tractor or right in your driveway.
No need to beg a neighbor to borrow their truck or bribe your third cousin to help with the heavy lifting. On Sight Repairs will travel to homes throughout the South Shore of Massachusetts including Abington, Cohasset, Duxbury, Hanover, Hanson, Hingham, Kingston, Marshfield, Norwell, Pembroke, Scituate, Rockland and Whitman.

On Sight Repairs was started by Marshfield resident Earl Cogswell who learned small engine repair at one of the South Shore’s better known resources where he was employed for over two decades.

Cogswell learned about the importance of maintaining lawn and garden equipment, but also realized there was no easy and inexpensive way to arrange for that annual maintenance or occasional repair. Thus, he launched On Sight Repairs with a well stocked trailer outfitted with portable tools and a variety of commonly needed replacement parts. With less overhead, Cogswell charges 20 percent less than conventional repair centers.

“Most lawn mower or small engine repairs take only a couple of hours and you are ready to tackle your lawn or other task,” commented Earl Cogswell. He added, “I’m told by customers that in the past they would procrastinated about maintaining their lawn and garden equipment. They were hamstrung because they didn’t know someone who owned a truck to deliver it to a repair shop. The fact we also save them money is often secondary to the convenience factor of us coming to their home.”
To obtain more information about Onsight Repairs, visit www.OnSightRepairs.com, email Earl@OnSightRepairs.com or call (781) 264-8448.

Keeping it real. How to get more life out of your freshly cut Christmas tree

November 27, 2012 //  by admin

freshly cut Christmas trees at Concord NurseriesROCHESTER, MASSACHUSETTS…

There are many pros and cons of buying a real Christmas tree versus an artificial one—cost, upkeep, etc. There is no denying that the scent of a natural Christmas tree does create the flavor of Christmas unlike an artificial one. For traditionalists who refuse to go fake route, there are simple steps you can take to ensure your real Christmas tree lasts longer, makes less of a mess and, most importantly, is safer.

“For best results, you want to buy your tree as early in the season as possible,” said George Chapman, master grower at Concord Nurseries in Rochester, Massachusetts. “You want to be sure to give your tree a fresh cut of at least a third to a half inch off the bottom. Place your tree in a bucket of water outdoors in the shade or in a garage or shed until you’re ready to set it up indoors.”

Chapman recommends the following steps to optimizing the life expectancy of your tree and maintaining the safety of your home:

  • Place your tree in an area that will remain as cool as possible.
  • Keep your tree away from heat registers, stoves, fireplaces, etc.
  • Water your tree – Some people suggest adding preservative, sugar, lemon juice, or other additives to your Christmas tree water. There is really only one thing your Christmas tree needs – a continuous source of FRESH WATER.
  • Never allow your tree stand to run dry – The freshness of your tree will determine how much water it will drink. Freshly cut trees (for example, the trees at Concord Nurseries were cut one week ago) require a lot of water. Check your tree stand daily and refill.

Of course, the other part of the natural Christmas tree experience is what to do with it after the holidays. While it’s fairly easy to box up an artificial tree, many people are unsure of what to do with a real one.

Said Chapman, “After the holidays, your tree can be cut up and used as a winter mulch for tender perennials, or you can simply place it in your backyard to provide a protective spot for overwintering birds.”

With locations in Rochester and Concord, Massachusetts, Concord Nurseries offers a variety of  Christmas trees in a wide range of sizes. In addition to trees, Concord Nurseries sells decorated and undecorated holiday wreaths ranging in size from 12-inches to 48-inches, as well as a wonderful selection of poinsettias in several colors—red, white, pink and marble—and sizes—four inches to 10 inches.

Concord Nurseries is open Monday through Thursday, 10am to 5pm, Friday, 10am to 7pm and Saturday, 9am to 5pm.

For complete information on Concord Nurseries, visit www.ConcordNurseriesCSA.com.

November 26, 2012 //  by admin

In an effort to raise money for frail elders in crisis situations, Old Colony Elder Services (OCES), a private, non-profit Aging Services Access Point (ASAP) located in Brockton, is creating an emergency fund for frail elders by offering raffle tickets for $5 each. The raffle tickets are available throughout December and January and the proceeds go towards food, fuel and medications for elders who are on a fixed income and in a crisis situation.

A total of $1,300 in cash prizes will be awarded beginning in February. One winner will be selected per day. Cash prize values vary. Winners will be notified by phone and posted online at www.OldColonyElderServices.org.
