May 31, 2011 //  by admin

Mother and daughter team - Korin Kane (an Old Colony Elder Services employee) and her mother Mae Nicoli attend Old Colony Elder Services recent Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon.

Old Colony Elder Services, an elder services agency providing supportive resources to seniors living in greater Plymouth county and the Brockton area, recently recognized 450 volunteers who generously dedicate themselves to Old Colony Elder Services and to helping elders in the community.

Old Colony Elder Services’ Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon was several weeks ago at the agency’s expansive conference center in Brockton. Volunteers from the Nutrition Program, Money Management Program and it’s Advisory Board, Senior Options Cable Program, Fundraising Events, and the Board of Directors were invited in recognition for their service to Old Colony Elder Services and seniors in the community. Jodie Gilson of J. Gilson Greenhouses in Groton MA was the special guest speaker at the event. Fresh flower centerpieces were given to winners of drawings. All volunteers were given plants donated by Home Depot and Lowes.
Old Colony Elder Services Nutrition volunteers participate in the Meals on Wheels program and deliver meals to elders’ homes or they may volunteer as a food server at one of Old Colony Elder Services congregate meal sites. Money Management volunteers are assigned to assist elders by providing a personalized money management service. They make home visits at least once a month to help seniors keep track of income and expenses. Senior Options is a cable television program for the city of Brockton. Senior Options is a collaboration between Old Colony Elder Services and the Brockton Council on Aging. Programs focus on addressing the needs and resources available to Brockton’s seniors. Old Colony Elder Services Board of Directors and the Money Management Program Advisory Board are also comprised entirely of volunteers.
“Our volunteers are very valuable and this recognition is well-deserved. We cannot run our programs without them. We are extremely grateful to those who tirelessly dedicate their time and expertise in volunteering for programs to help elders,” noted Diana L. Haley’s Tire’s “Maine Men”… Guy Norcross joins Haley’s Tire 20 years of service club.

May 26, 2011 //  by admin

Guy Norcross (far left) recently celebrated 20 years with Haley’s Tire & Service Center in Augusta. Pictured with Norcross are fellow 20+ year employees and Augusta residents Store Manager Dale Cushman and Auto Technician William Baker.

BIDDEFORD, BANGOR, AUGUSTA AND FALMOUTH, MAINE…

Earlier this month, Augusta resident Guy Norcross celebrated his 20th anniversary as an employee of Haley’s Tire, located at 300 State Street in Augusta. With his anniversary, Norcross, an auto technician, joined an elite club of Haley’s Tire employees who have served more than 20 years with the company, which opened its first store in Biddeford, Maine, in 1970.

The other members of this elite group include Auto Technician William Baker and Store Manager Dale Cushman, also of the Augusta Haley’s Tire store and service center. In addition to working at the same store and being Augusta residents, Baker and Cushman both started at Haley Tire’s on the same day, May 27, 1987. Bangor Store Manager Harry McDonald, a Hermon resident who celebrated his 20th anniversary last year, rounds out this elite group of employees with two decades or more of service.

“When my father and grandfather began the business, they wanted it to be a place where customers and staff would feel like part of our extended family,” said Tim Haley, general manager of all four Haley’s Tire locations. “That we’ve had four individuals like Guy, Bill, Dale and Harry stay with us for so long, not to mention another seven of our employees who have been with us 10 years or more, means we’ve succeeded in that regard.”

Frederick Haley, Jr. and Frederick Haley founded Haley’s Tire in 1970 with its Biddeford store located at 124 Elm Street. An authorized Goodyear, Dunlop and Kelly Tires dealer, Haley Tire’s also offers repair services, including oil changes, alignments, brakes service (including free brake inspections), transmission maintenance, computerized engine analysis and much more at all four locations (August, Biddeford, Bangor and Falmouth).

Beyond great products and service at a fair price, Haley’s Tire has engendered loyalty from customers and staff, in part, due to the active role store leadership plays in the community. Tim Haley is on the board of directors for the local chapter of The Salvation Army. Haley’s Tire is also a regular participant in the American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life”.

“We sell national tire products like Goodyear, Kelly Tires and others, but when you get right down to it, we’re selling our company and what we stand for,” said Haley. “Providing a great product and service, being a company people want to work for and stay with and giving back to the community are things we take great pride in. It may seem like we’re doing something special here, but it’s really just following the vision my dad and grandfather had for the company when we started.”

For more information about Haley’s Tire, including store locations and directions, please visit www.haleystire.com .

Chunks O’ Fruti® introduce “Escape” from summer heat with Strawberry Colada 100% natural frozen fruit bar.

May 19, 2011 //  by admin

Chunks O’ Fruti’s Strawberry Colada

HIALEAH, FLORIDA…

In the late 1970s, Rupert Holmes came out with a chart-topping hit called Escape (The Pina Colada Song) with a very catchy chorus asking “do you like pina coladas?”. With its tasty new Strawberry Colada 100% natural frozen fruit bar, Chunks O’ Fruti® is hoping it has just as big of a hit during the summer of 2011 and beyond.

The Chunks O’ Fruti® Strawberry Colada eatures all natural ingredients—including chunks of real strawberries—and no artificial coloring. The fruit is spread evenly throughout each bar by a proprietary manufacturing process so real fruit is in almost every bite. The Strawberry Colada is also low in calories, has no salt or cholesterol, is gluten-free and kosher-certified.

“There really is nothing like our Strawberry Colada bar out on the market today with two very distinct flavors as part of one bar,” said Susan Morris, senior vice president for Natural Fruit Corporation, the makers of Chunks O’ Fruti frozen fruit bars. “When you throw in that it’s 100% natural, parents actually have a cool summer snack for their children—and themselves for that matter—that’s actually good for you.”

The suggested retail price for Chunks O’ Fruti® Strawberry is $1.29. All 20 flavors of Chunks O’ Fruti® 100% natural frozen fruit bars are sold at retail outlets across the US via a network of independent distributors and franchisees. Chunks O’ Fruti®’s other flavors include such mouth-watering favorites as Strawberry, Strawberry Cream, Coconut, Pineapple, Mango, Caribbean Mix, Chocolate Dipped Strawberry and more.

“Chunks O’ Fruti® truly are a snack you won’t feel guilty eating,” said Morris. “With our new Strawberry Colada flavor, you might even want to change the words to that song and start singing, ‘Yes, I like Strawberry Colada!’”

Just recently, Natural Fruit Corporation revised its franchise opportunity to sell Chunks O’ Fruti® frozen fruit bars via its sister company Natural Fruit Franchise Group (NFFG). In addition to selling Chunks O’ Fruti®, the offering includes a special arrangement with Mars to sell its ice cream products–like Twix, Snickers, M&Ms and Dove bars–wholesale to retail outlets like their local convenience stores, hospital cafeterias, schools, independent grocery stores, deli’s, family style restaurants, swim clubs and many other high-traffic locations.

Fruti® franchises are available across the U.S. For complete information on Fruti®’s franchise offering, please visit www.frutifranchise.com or contact Bruce Wildes, Acadia Business Advisors, LLC at 207 370 8210 or info@acadiabiz.com.

eLove’s Paul A. Falzone weighs in on Emotional Affairs

May 19, 2011 //  by admin

Matters of the heart –

An emotional affair, which often masquerades as a friendship, can happen whether you’re single, married or in a committed relationship.

Paul A. Falzone, CEO of eLove, one of the world’s largest matchmaking services, shares his insight about what constitutes emotional fidelity and the telltale signs of an emotional affair of someone who is in a committed relationship.

According to Falzone, “The best way to explain emotional fidelity is to explain what constitutes emotional infidelity. Technically, this is when you choose not to or you’re unable to share your emotions, thoughts and feelings with your significant other, yet you share them with someone else of the opposite sex. Although you’re not having a physical affair, you are being emotionally intimate with someone other than your partner.”

Emotional infidelity is not simple flirting. But, it can begin with flirting, as that is how many relationships develop. That casual banter with a co-worker may turn in to flirting and something more serious and emotionally involved as time goes on.

To be emotionally faithful is to not betray your partner. You know your partner better than anyone else; what his or her needs are and how he or she feels about everything. If you’re sharing special thoughts, feelings, ambitions or dreams with someone other than him or her, then you are knowingly being emotionally unfaithful and trust has been broken.

Here are a few examples of emotional fidelity that will help keep you in check:

You receive good (or bad) news, whether it relates to work, health, finances, friends or family and you’re excited to share it with your significant other (as opposed to someone else of the opposite sex).

You have a problem with your partner and you want to discuss it with your partner (and not someone else of the opposite sex).

You have a new idea or dream or you’re considering making a change in your life and the only person you discuss it with is the one whose got your back – your partner.

“To be cognizant of what is an isn’t emotional fidelity is half the battle. If you feel you can talk with, or that you are closer to, that ‘friend’ than you are to your significant other, then that’s a sure sign that your relationship needs attention,” noted Falzone.

eLove is all you need
