New dirt on 2013 Old Sandwich Road Race. Kenyan Moninda Marube to defend half-marathon title at 2013 Old Sandwich Road Race

May 14, 2013 //  by admin

: 2012 Old Sandwich Road Race Half Marathon Winner Moninda Marube of Kenya with Race Director and Plymouth resident Craig Valentine Brenner. Marube will return to Plymouth, MA to run in the 2013 Old Sandwich Road Race half marathon.

PLYMOUTH, MA…

In 2012, the Old Sandwich Road Race celebrated its first international winner as Kenyan Moninda Marube set a course record in the half marathon. The Kenyan native recently announced he will return to run the dirt and defend his title in the 2013 Old Sandwich Road Race, which takes place on Sunday June 2.

“I have run many races in the U.S. and around the world. There is something special about the Old Sandwich Road Race that appeals to a runner’s soul. Maybe it’s the history, maybe it’s the dirt course. Most of all, it’s the people. I had a wonderful time running last year’s and am looking forward to returning,” said Marube.

The fourth annual Old Sandwich Road Race consists of a half marathon, 5k and 10k. A substantial portion of the half marathon takes place on the dirt section of Old Sandwich Road.

Originally a trail used by the Wampanoag Native American tribe, Old Sandwich Road later became the nation’s first true public road and a stagecoach route to ferry passengers and mail back and forth between the Massachusetts towns of Plymouth and Sandwich. Today, the road remains pretty much as the Pilgrims left it–a wide, scenic, dirt road bordered by beautiful tall pine trees and towering oaks. It offers perfect views for runners and a dirt road surface that’s far kinder to the body than asphalt or cement.

“We’re happy to have Moninda return to defend his title and that OSRR continues to be a desirable race for people across the country and now around the world,” said OSRR Spokesman Steve Dubin, noting that last year’s races drew runners from 28 states and four countries. “This year promises to be even more memorable with Moninda’s participation and the Boston Marathon runners.”

The Old Sandwich Road Race has waived the entry for Boston Marathon runners who, due to circumstances beyond their control, were unable to cross the finish line. One person, Julia Daly, of Cambridge, Massachusetts, has already accepted the OSRR’s invitation.

“Words cannot describe how I felt that day. I was running to raise money for Dana Farber Cancer Institute. My disappointment in not being able to finish meant very little compared to what was going on just a few miles ahead of me,” said Daly. “I’m grateful to have my family, friends and self come out of that day healthy and alive. I think the best way to honor those who perished and were hurt is to keep running and that’s what I plan to do in Plymouth this June and back in Boston next year.”

Boston Marathon runners can RSVP by e-mailing the following information to the OSRR Race Director at runosrr@gmail.com:

  • First and last name
  • Address
  • Age on race day
  • Cell number
  • Email address

The OSRR features a total $3,000 winner-take-all purses for the half marathon male and female winners ($1500 each) and special edition finisher’s medals for all half marathon participants. In addition, this year’s race includes:

  • Newest available timing technology.
  • Great top finisher and age group awards.
  • Personalized finisher announcements.
  • An awesome high quality tech shirt!
  • Free food to all runners and their screaming fans!
  • Full uniformed Boy Scouts manning the water stops.
  • Professional, broadcast finish announcer.

OSRR’s early bird rate for the 5k ($24), 10k ($40) and half marathon ($60) ends on May 27. Prices will increase for runners registering at later dates and on race day.

The Old Sandwich Road Race benefits area charities, including The Home for Little Wanderer’s South Campus in Plymouth. The Baird Center School is a year-round residential and day school treatment program for youth aged 10-18 with a wide range of emotional, behavioral, educational and psychiatric issues.

If you would like more information or are interested in running the 2013 Old Sandwich Road Race, please visit www.oldsandwichroadrace.com. If you or your company is interested in sponsoring the race, please contact Craig Valentine Brenner at 617-680-4230 or info@oldsandwichroadrace.com.

You can visit the Old Sandwich Road Race Web site at http://www.oldsandwichroadrace.com. Selected by Runner’s World, as “one of the five races not to miss in 2010”, The Old Sandwich Road Race also has pages on Facebook and Twitter.

Mad Men dreams? Viamark Advertising initiates franchise opportunity offering.

May 14, 2013 //  by admin

Plymouth, Mass./New Bern, NC

The popular TV show “Mad Men” has revived the luster of the advertising agency world.  Although the industry may no longer consist of an on-going cocktail party and romantic whirlwind, the industry continues to offer an open canvas for creative ideas and opportunity.

Viamark Advertising, the leading advertising agency franchise company with corporate offices in Plymouth, MA and New Bern, NC as well as 12 franchised offices in seven markets, is now offering franchise opportunities and seeking strategic thinkers to own and operate their own advertising agency.

With extensive experience in marketing and media sales management, Viamark’s founders Mark Storie and Glenn Anderson have developed a unique business model that allows franchisees to get up and operational quickly.  Viamark provides the resources to help franchisees offer media buying, creative services, ad production, and digital services to each of their clients.

Viamark is initially looking for qualified candidates in markets throughout the East Coast.

“Many people who have worked in various advertising positions have dreamed of running their own ad agency, but hesitated because they may not have had all the tools, support or infrastructure,” noted Glenn Anderson, one of the founders of ViaMark Advertising and the Franchise Sales Director.  “Viamark offers a proven formula for winning new clients and growing a business.  We are excited about helping people attain their dreams.”

“This is different from most other franchise opportunities in that you do have to have experience and knowledge of the advertising industry,” said Mark Storie, President of Viamark Advertising. “For the right individual who has that background and client relationships, however, we can provide the resources so they can avoid the pitfalls that a startup might face and allow them to build a book of business quickly. Together, we can bring success to our clients and our businesses faster than either of us can alone.  It’s a mutually beneficial partnership.  It just makes sense.”

Franchisee candidates should have five plus years media sales and/or management experience or five plus years ad agency experience in account management and/or business development.  Other helpful attributes and background include local market knowledge and contacts, creative and strategic thinking, relationship oriented – rather than transactional oriented, composed and capable of managing multiple tasks at once, positive and outgoing.

With 12 offices in seven media markets, Viamark handles over 150 local and regional accounts from South Carolina to Massachusetts in addition to national clients through the U.S. Viamark specializes in strategic media buying and creative services, including radio, television, print, outdoor and digital advertising.

Some of Viamark’s core industries include automotive, healthcare, pharmaceutical, education, restaurant, retail and real estate.

Nonotuck Resource Associates, Inc. celebrates National Nurses Day with a gift to the One Fund

May 10, 2013 //  by admin

FLORENCE, MA…

For most Americans, May 12, 2013 represents Mother’s Day. For thousands of dedicated nursing professionals, many of whom are mothers, the day represents another significant milestone: the birthday of Florence Nightingale. To honor the founder of modern nursing’s birthday and the invaluable contributions of nurses everywhere, Nonotuck Resource Associates, a company that has helped transform the lives of hundreds of people with intellectual and physical disabilities by offering the personalized service of shared living and Adult Family Care, has  donated $500 to the One Fund to support victims of the tragedy at this year’s Boston Marathon.

“Ten years ago we struggled with many aspects of health care and the agency didn’t have the resources to address this critical issue.  Today we have qualified, committed, dedicated, caring nurses in all of our offices serving the health care needs of about 500 people from North Adams to the Cape in our shared living and adult family care households,” said George H. Fleischner, executive director of Nonotuck Resource Associates, Inc. “Saying thank you to these incredible men and women didn’t seem enough so we are making a donation in the name of Nonotuck nurses to the One Fund.”

Florence Nightingale’s birthday is recognized by the American Nurses Association as part of National Nurses Week, which takes place annually from May 6 to May 12. May 6 represents the official National Nurses Day.

“There are many challenges in nursing; one of the hardest is probably helping those we work with through vulnerable times. The One Fund Boston was truly a great idea!! It absolutely represents our nurses’ commitment, dedication and focus to our communities. I cannot think of a better gift,” said Rachael Perrea, an RN with Nonotuck. “If more businesses and organizations took Nonotuck’s lead and donated to causes in need, we could all help to make this world a little better in a big way… I feel honored to be a part of this donation and blessed to be a part of Nonotuck.”

Nonotuck offers Shared Living, Adult Family Care and Day Services for families who choose to care for their loved ones suffering with Alzheimer’s, autism, brain injuries, cancer, muscular dystrophy and other intellectual and physical disabilities at home. VoiceNation Volunteers, Plants Garden at Gwinnett Children’s Shelter

May 9, 2013 //  by admin

VoiceNation volunteers plant vegetable garden at Gwinnett Children’s Shelter
VoiceNation, a preferred call center partner for thousands of businesses nationwide, celebrated Arbor Day in a unique way this year.

On April 26th, instead of planting a tree, the VoiceNation employee volunteer team planted a vegetable garden at the Gwinnett Children’s Shelter. The garden provides an opportunity for children residing at the shelter to learn more about the environment and obtain hands-on experience in maintaining, nurturing and harvesting their own food. The children will have a chance to get involved, and gain a sense of responsibility and accomplishment.

Armed with tools, plants and soil, VoiceNation arrived at the shelter with a dedicated team of six: Camille Childers, Caroline Culver, Kathy Levister, Ashley Pardue, and Joyce Wilmont. Sergio Perez of Gwinnett Children’s Shelter also assisted the team. VoiceNation built an 8′ x 4′ planter to house existing watermelon and cantaloupe plants. They also planted tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries and bell peppers.

“Volunteering gives us the opportunity to have a real impact in our local community; to give back and plant a seed for the future,” noted Jay Reeder, VoiceNation’s president.

It doesn’t have to be lonely at the top. Focal Point Coaching offers Group Coaching, May 21 to August 6

May 7, 2013 //  by admin

Greg DeSimone of Focal Point Coaching

MANSFIELD, MA…

While being a small business owner has its rewards in that you run your own ship, it can have a few drawbacks. Such as no one to discuss business challenges and problems with. Or constantly putting out fires instead of working on what’s needed to grow your business. For those business owners who want to control more of their time and destiny, Greg DeSimone, a dynamic business coach and recovering CPA, affiliated with FocalPoint Business Coaching based in Mansfield, MA, is offering Group Coaching sessions, running May 21 through August 6.

Group Coaching session consists of weekly, 90-minute face-to-face meetings with four to eight like-minded business owners. Over the course of 12 sessions, the group will address 12 powerful topics, each with an associated exercise the business owner can employ for their own business.

“Not every business owner has the time or can afford three months’ worth of senior level business coaching. Often times those are the people we can help most,” said DeSimone. “With group coaching, the rate is far more affordable, we start at 8am so that it’s not too much time away from the office. Most importantly, it provides business owners with a coaching network/support group where you can meet and share advice and ideas on a regular basis.”

As part of the Group Coaching sessions, attendees will learn to:

  • Identify your Starting Point
  • Identify Your Areas of Excellence
  • Remove your Critical Constraints

“While these sessions are motivational, they are much more than a weekly pep talk,” said DeSimone. “Quite frankly, each attendee will leave each session energized and with immediate action steps to move their business forward.”

Business owners who pay in full before the start of the session receive a 10 percent discount, as do clients/tenants of Highland March offices at 20 Cabot Blvd. in Mansfield, where Group Coaching will be held in Suite 300.
