Certifiably green. SelecTech receives MAS Certified Green designation

SelecTech, Inc., a leader in the manufacture of innovative flooring products from recycled materials, recently received the MAS Certified Green® Certificate of Compliance for all its modular floor tiles.

AVON, MA…

SelecTech, Inc., a leader in the manufacture of innovative flooring products from recycled materials, recently received the MAS Certified Green® Certificate of Compliance for all its modular floor tiles. This includes SelecTech’s FreeStyle BioLock™, Freestyle Standard™, Freestyle ESD™, Place N’ Go™, SelecTile™ and SelecTile ESD™.

The MAS Certified Green certification is a registered trademark to delineate low VOC emitting products in the marketplace so that purchasers and specifiers of those products know that they can earn credits in sustainability programs such as U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Rating system.  Materials Analytical Services, LLC, an independent provider of emissions product testing and certification of a wide variety of residential and commercial building products through the nationally recognized MAS Certified Green™ emissions testing program, issued the certification.

“You hear various vendors making claims of their product being green or greener, yet those claims are not always backed up with solid proof,“ said Thomas Ricciardelli, president of SelecTech, Inc. “The MAS Certified Green certification means all our products meet the most stringent indoor air quality requirements.”

SelecTech flooring products are made using recycled material and are 100 percent recyclable. SelecTech products become an even greener choice by employing a breakthrough interlocking technology. This technology enables you to completely bypass the need for less than environmentally friendly adhesives as well as the floor prep time needed to install or replace flooring. This saves another kind of green—money—by dramatically reducing installation times because old flooring can be left in place and machinery and furniture does not have to be completely moved or removed for installation.

In addition, SelecTech offers anti-static flooring products, specifically its FreeStyle ESD products. This type of flooring is typically used by industries such as electronics manufacturing, communications, aerospace, biotech and healthcare where electronics and sensitive data must be protected.

To learn more about SelecTech products, including the FreeStyle and FreeStyle ESD flooring products, visit http://www.selectechinc.com.

About SelecTech, Inc.

SelecTech, Inc. was founded in 1993 with the mission of creating valuable products from scrap plastics. The company has become a leader in the manufacture of flooring products from recycled materials and uses one million pounds of recycled materials annually. Their products are made with up to 100 percent recycled content, are 100 percent recyclable and installed without adhesives making them some of the “greenest” and most cost-effective flooring products available. The unique interlock system on SelecTech’s flooring products enable them to be installed at a much lower cost, without a lot of costly downtime, which provides significant value to customers.

Using state-of-the-art technology and innovative product design, SelecTech created the top performing Place N’ Go residential flooring products, which are available at Home Depot. They are also the creators of the renowned commercial and industrial FreeStyle, FreeStyle ESD and StaticStop ESD flooring lines.

SelecTech is a vendor partner of Health Care Institute, an International Facility Management Association (IFMA) alliance partner. All SelecTech products are MAS Certified Green®. The company is headquartered at 33 Wales Avenue, Suite F in Avon, MA. For more information about SelecTech, visit http://www.selectechinc.com.

A good judge of new small businesses. Baker, Braverman & Barbadoro P.C. helps select winner of Quick Pitch competition.

Warren F. Baker of Baker, Braverman & Barbadoro, P.C. sits on judges panel for Quincy Center for Innovation’s Quick Pitch Competition

BOSTON, BRAINTREE AND QUINCY, MA…

When it comes to presentations before judges, the attorneys at Baker, Braverman & Barbadoro P.C., are used to being on the other side of the bench. On April 4, Attorney Warren Baker was in one of the judge’s seats, listening to small business pitches from seven budding entrepreneurs as part of the Quincy Center for Innovation’s Quick Pitch competition.

Held at the Center’s Eastern Nazarene College location, the Quick Pitch competition gave aspiring entrepreneurs the opportunity to pitch their business ideas before a panel of judges with the opportunity to win up to $2,500 to get their business idea off the ground. The judge panel consisted of Quincy Center for Innovation sponsors, Center volunteers and members of the local business community.

“The Firm specializes in working with small businesses and we work with many innovative clients. The ideas presented by the seven entries in the Quick Pitch were well thought out and extremely creative,” said Baker.

This year’s winner was Cohasset native Mike Filbey and two of his former classmates, Moshin Khan and Mark Lindquist, who won for their enterprise Canary, an online marketplace that helps people buy and sell unwanted items locally while donating a portion of each sale to local charities.

“Clearly, we’re thrilled with winning the Quick Pitch Competition,” said Filbey. “Not only is this a confidence booster for me and my partners but the prize money will enable us to trademark our company logo and enhance our website’s functionality.”

Other winners included Richard Keough of Quincy, taking second place and winning $1,000 in kick-start money for his Tablet Pistol Grip 360, a handle that attaches to the back of a digital tablet to make it easier to hold and use. Luis Mora, a junior at Eastern Nazarene College who grew up in Hyde Park, won the student contest and $1,000 for Mora Communications, a training program that helps instill confidence and public-speaking skills in high schools students.

Similar to the premise of the hit television show “Shark Tank,” the Quick Pitch contest had entrepreneurs pitch their ideas to a panel of judges, who in turn peppered the participants with questions about their ventures. Questions revolved around key business pillars such as sales, marketing, overhead, competition and legal protection.

“We volunteer time at the Innovation Center counseling entrepreneurs, so I had some idea as to what to expect but these contestants really knew their stuff and you could feel the passion and commitment behind their ideas,” said Baker.

For photos and additional information on the Quick Pick contest, you can visit the Quincy Center for Innovation’s website at http://quincyinno.com.

Apollo Safety announces healthcare division

April 7, 2014 //  by admin

John V. Carvalho III, president of Apollo Safety, Inc.FALL RIVER, MASSACHUSETTS…

Apollo Safety, Inc. a veteran-owned, Fall River, Mass.-based company specializing in safety products and services, recently announced the formation of a special healthcare division to serve hospitals, doctor’s offices and other medical facilities. The new division will feature extensive offerings for healthcare facilities as it pertains to gas detection equipment, maintenance and monitoring.

“A gas leak is bad any time, anywhere. At a healthcare facility like a doctor’s office or a hospital, it’s even worse because it impacts people already in a weakened condition who may or may not be able to detect a smell to get help or remove themselves from that area,” said John C. Carvalho III, president of Apollo Safety, Inc.. “With our new healthcare division, we can tailor the detection and monitoring system to the facility to best meet their needs and help prevent tragedies.”

Apollo Safety’s offerings include a wide variety of portable and stationary gas detection systems suitable for large universities, including name brands like Honeywell, Industrial Scientific, RAE Systems, RKI, and GMI. These systems are available for purchase or rental at weekly or monthly rates. Rental equipment is certified to NIST standards and is guaranteed for the entire rental period.

In addition, Apollo Safety also provides on-site installation and training and 24/7 service. All Apollo Safety technicians are factory-trained and certified. In addition, Apollo offers its own training program, with five levels of certification.

“The nature of detection systems is that no news is good news; if the alarm is not going off then all is well. That’s not always the case,” said Carvalho. “With our new division, we provide  maintenance and monitoring services to actually test gas detection systems so the facility knows that it’s working properly rather than just assuming all is well.”

Apollo Safety provides service in a “state of the art” in-house service center, as well as offering on-site support with factory-trained technicians for both portable and stationary gas detection systems. Apollo uses only factory-original parts for repairs and repairs are made exactly to client requirements. Apollo guarantees a 10-day turnaround time with pre-approval, though 66 percent of all repairs are completed in five days or less. Free software upgrades included with all repairs.

Between Rounds Bakery Sandwich Café Expands Beverage Menu

April 7, 2014 //  by admin

betweenrounds logo 1Between Rounds, a unique bakery sandwich café and bagel shop with locations throughout Connecticut recently announced the addition of Fresh Brewed Iced Teas to their product line to meet growing consumer demand.

Between Rounds’ tea offerings, which include regular, decaf and herbal hot teas along with both hot and iced Chai tea, has been expanded to include Fresh Brewed Lipton Iced Teas. This unique line includes refreshing and “punchy” flavors such as Blackberry Sangria Tea (which is blackberry and pomegranate), Red Berry Tea (strawberry and pomegranate), Black Pearl (blackberry) and Strawberry Tea (strawberry). Each is garnished with a floating lemon ring.

Tea has become increasingly popular due to its powerful antioxidants and lower levels of caffeine. According to the Tea Association of the USA, more than half of the country’s population drinks tea and around 85 percent of the tea that is consumed is iced.

According to Between Rounds founder Jerry Puiia, “For many of us, iced or hot tea is a daily staple. Black, green and specialty tea consumption has increased exponentially over the past few years, and there is a significant demand for iced tea while dining out, to the extent that it now rivals specialty coffee sales.”

Unique Bagels & Sandwiches

Customer favorites to accompany Between Rounds’ Fresh Brewed Iced Tea include the “Morning Rounder” made with the best bagels found on the Eastern Seaboard; the unique Portobello Mushroom and Mozzarella Panini; and the customized wrap made with a quarter pound of the best Boar’s Head brand deli meats and cheeses complete with crave-worthy toppings.
