SelecTech launches retail/franchise division

December 26, 2013 //  by admin

AVON, MA…

SelecTech, Inc., a leader in the manufacture of innovative flooring products from recycled materials, recently announced plans for a retail/franchise division. Based out of the company’s corporate headquarters in Avon, Mass., the new division will feature customer service and marketing representatives specifically dedicated to retail and franchise customers with multiple locations.

“Uniformity is one of the benefits of chains and franchises. You want the customer to have the same experience no matter which location they visit. That goes from the way they are greeted to the look and feel of the store,” said Thomas Ricciardelli, president of SelecTech Inc. “In addition to utilizing a breakthrough interlocking technology that minimizes installation materials and down time, our flooring products are easy to customize for multi-location organizations.”

Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS) is one SelecTech’s recent retail customers. EMS wanted an attractive and comfortable floor for its shoe department to provide customers with the proper setting for selecting new shoes. EMS chose SelecTech’s FreeStyle flooring.

With its patented resilient composition, FreeStyle provided the perfect solution. With no installation hassles and no waiting for concrete to cure and adhesives to dry, the FreeStyle floor was snapped together on the concrete floor and ready to use immediately—helping the entire build-out project run more effectively.

Said a company representative, “Our mission is to encourage consumers to appreciate the outdoors and the responsibility that comes with this privilege. We wanted a ‘green’ flooring material that would be comfortable to walk on, install and maintain easily, and be reliable. FreeStyle helped us meet all of those needs.”

“Nowadays, franchisees seem to be drawn to franchisors with green initiatives. Our flooring products are made from 70 percent recycled materials and are 100 percent recyclable,” said Ricciardelli. “I’m not saying this will seal the deal on bringing in a new franchisee. But it certainly does show a level of commitment to greener operations by the franchisor that a potential franchisee has to respect.”

Caregivers care. Nonotuck honors caregivers as part of National Caregivers Month

December 23, 2013 //  by admin

AUBURN, MA AND FLORENCE, MA…

For more than 40 years Nonotuck Resource Associates has helped transform the lives of hundreds of people with intellectual and physical disabilities by offering the personalized service of shared living and Adult Family Care. As part of National Caregivers Month in November, Nonotuck honored 40 of its caregivers in the greater Worcester area with a celebratory dinner at its Auburn offices at 4 Faith Avenue on November 20.

At the dinner, each Nonotuck caregiver was presented with a congratulatory thank you card from Nonotuck Board of Directors, the CEO and all Nonotuck staff written in every language of this diverse group of Nonotuck caregivers. These care givers reside in Central Mass, principally in the greater Worcester area and they were all honored equally for their commitment, love and service. In addition, Nonotuck made a $500 donation each to four food bank organizations that cover western Mass, north central Mass, the Worcester Area, and the southeastern/Cape area of Mass on behalf of these Nonotuck Caregivers.

“Our caregivers do more than open up their homes to care for people from all walks of life. They literally share their lives with the people we serve. In many cases, they become like family,” said George Fleischner, CEO of Nonotuck Resource Associates, Inc. “We cannot thank our caregivers enough for all they do. They are the backbone of our organization.”

According to the Caregiver Action Network website, there are as many as 90 million family caregivers in U.S. today. That means that two out of every five adults—or 39 percent–are family caregivers.  That’s an increase from 30 percent back in 2010. In recognition of the role caregivers play, the Obama administration declared November 2013 as National Caregivers Month.

“The sad reality is that not every family is able to care for their elderly or disabled family member,” said Fleischner. When the family is unable to be the caregiver, Nonotuck will find an out of family home to provide care to the person in a dignified and loving way. “You just can’t put a dollar value on the critical role Nonotuck caregivers play in the lives of so many people across Massachusetts.”

Based in Florence, Massachusetts but with offices across the Commonwealth, Nonotuck offers Shared Living and Adult Family Care for families who choose to care for their loved ones who have Alzheimer’s, autism, brain injuries, cancer, muscular dystrophy and other intellectual and physical disabilities at home.

For complete information on Nonotuck Resource Associates, including office locations, you can visit www.nonotuck.com or call Nonotuck’s corporate office at 413-586-5256.

A dry cleaning alternative worth it for salt

December 16, 2013 //  by admin

HANOVER, MA…

It seems each season has its own clothes cleaning challenge that makes trips to the dry cleaner inevitable. For summer, it’s humidity and excessive perspiration. For winter, the season with the most inclement weather in most parts of the U.S., salt is the culprit. And with every snow storm comes the probability that your trousers will need cleaning if you venture out into any street or sidewalk that’s been plowed and salted.

Of course, that doesn’t always mean a trip to the dry cleaners is necessary. If you read the label of your clothing carefully, you may be able to treat those clothes at home.

“How annoying is it to have your nicest slacks dirtied by salt for just a quick walk down the street to feed a meter or catch a bus or cab? As annoying as that might be, the real danger is that the salt will ruin the slacks if you don’t treat it right away,” said Kevin Dubois, CEO of Lapels Dry Cleaning, an innovative, environmentally friendly dry cleaning company based in Hanover, Mass.

Dubois recommends rinsing the effected parts of the slacks in water as soon as possible. If it’s a salt spot that’s gone unnoticed, you will probably have to soak in water for several hours. For pants that do not have to be dry-cleaned, wash the stained areas in liquid detergent. If the stains do not come out, try soaking the pants in cold water with a laundry-detergent booster or oxy product. If those fail, use a stain remover like Shout or Spray N Wash and let sit for 10 minutes.

“It’s important to get the stain out or as much of it out as possible before you put the pants in the laundry machine,” said Dubois. “It’s also advisable to wash the pants separately in the machine to prevent the salt from mixing with your other clothes.”

Unfortunately, the only solution for dry clean only pants is a trip to the dry cleaner. Dubois does note you can attempt to get rid of salt stains using a home dry cleaning kit if you prefer not to go to a dry cleaner.

Prior to using the kit, Dubois recommends dampening the salt-stained area with a light water mist. Blot away the moisture to see if the stain has come out. If not, use the stain remover from the home dry cleaning kit and clean as directed.

“The home dry cleaning kits are good up to a certain point. Obviously, I’m a tad biased, but there really isn’t a substitute for having your clothes dry cleaned professionally,” said Dubois. “Most dry cleaners offer daily or weekly specials on their website or Facebook pages so that if you time it right, you can reduce costs. It’s worth looking into, particularly if the pants are part of a suit and essentially irreplaceable.”

Over the past dozen years, Lapels has pioneered its eco-friendly dry cleaning experience. Using the latest technology in equipment and cleaning solution, Lapels is one of the few dry cleaners around to be able to boast that there is no hazardous waste in their process. Lapels  environmentally-friendly cleaning process has no odor and is gentler on clothes, thus lengthening the life of clothes. At Lapels you can see, feel and smell the difference.

Lapels customers are greeted to a warm and inviting reception area, with friendly customer service representatives, and a full service on-site tailor.

Lapels offers its customers Automatic Rewards earning them credit towards free dry cleaning for every dollar they spend, Loyalty Programs, a VIP Program which eliminates the need to wait in line and the use of a 24 Hour Drop Off Service. Same day service is also available with pick-up after 5 pm.

Emerson Bearing now serving plastics industry

December 13, 2013 //  by admin

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS…

Paper or plastic? For Emerson Bearing, a Boston based bearing company catering to OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Operations) markets throughout the world, the answer is both as the company recently launched a new division to supply bearings and related products to the plastics industry (the company had previously launched a paper converting, pulp and printing division last year).

“In the film The Graduate, one of Benjamin Braddock’s father’s friends advised him to get into plastics, that there was a great future there. Based on the research we’ve done, we couldn’t agree more and we’re extremely excited about expanding our efforts in this area,” said Steve Katz, president of Emerson Bearing, Inc.

Katz notes the plastic industry is dominated by two major categories: extruders and injection molding machines. Both areas depend greatly on the reliability and durability of its bearings.

In an extruder, the processed plastic is pressed thru a nozzle into a profiled die. The extruder gearbox is subject to high torques as well as high radial and axial loads. This places major importance on the monitoring of bearings and replacement in a timely fashion.

Injection molding machines are used for the production of parts in large quantities. The screw feed and the linear bearings must be insensitive to heat and vibration and have high basic static and dynamic load ratings. Again, regular monitoring, maintenance and replacement of bearings are critical to keeping production schedules.

“We’ve had great results with some existing clients in the plastics industry. With this new division, with dedicated marketing and customer service staff for this industry, we will be better equipped to serve current clients and attract new plastics industry clients,” said Katz.

To date, Emerson Bearing has worked several plastic manufacturers. That includes a company in North Carolina that produces plastic wine corks, a manufacturer that produce plastic bags (including bio degradable plastic bags), and a manufacturer that produces plastic strapping.

“The interesting thing about plastics is the industry itself is a very strong indicator of how the economy is doing,” said Katz. “During the recession in 2008, the plastic strapping company was only operating seven of its 12 production lines two shifts per day. Right now, they are back to three shifts, 24/7. Maybe The Graduate was on to something.”

Emerson Bearing Marketing Specialist Bill Zylicz is responsible for the Plastics Industry division. He can be reached by e-mail at bzylicz@emersonbearing.com or by calling  1.866.995.8762.

The Emerson Bearing Difference
In a proud tradition, the same families that started the company in 1957 keep Emerson Bearing rolling by specializing in bearings for OEM and MRO markets across the country. Emerson Bearing has a staff of 22 and a 23,000 square foot facility to provide bearings ranging in size from 3mm to tunnel-boring 15-foot-diameter giants.

Emerson Bearing offers customers a one-stop shopping experience. With an online product catalog with over 3 million bearings; a vast inventory of bearings; worldwide sourcing; a fixed price program; a knowledgeable staff dedicated to delivering; same day shipping and 24/7 service, Emerson Bearing has become the leading provider of bearings to OEM and MRO markets in the U.S. Emerson Bearing maintains headquarters at 201 Brighton Ave. Boston, MA. For more information, contact 617-782-1400 or toll free, 800-225-4587, email info@emersonbearing.com or visit www.emersonbearing.com.

Rave reviews abroad. SelecTech’s EcoStat makes European debut at Munich trade show

December 13, 2013 //  by admin

Thomas Ricciardelli of SelecTech, Inc.
Thomas Ricciardelli of SelecTech, Inc.

AVON, MA…

SelecTech, Inc., a leader in the manufacture of innovative flooring products from recycled materials, in partnership with Wolfgang Warmbier, the premier static-control products supplier in Europe, recently unveiled their EcoStat products to the European market last month at the Productronica 2013 fair in Munich, Germany.   EcoStat flooring products can create a static controlled environment that’s perfect for industries that utilize electronics and data.

Billed as the leading international trade for innovative electronics, Productronica 2013 drew visitors and exhibitors from around the world.

“One of the reasons we partnered with Wolfgang Wambier was to get exposure for our EcoStat products at major international conferences like Productionica,” said Thomas Ricciardelli, president of SelecTech, Incorporated. “To walk out of that show with our first order for 100 square meters as well as several leads is precisely the kind of start we were looking for.”

In addition to its anti-static qualities that make it perfect for the electronics manufacturing, communications, aerospace, biotech, healthcare industries, and other high-tech industries, EcoStat products employ a breakthrough interlocking technology that dramatically reduces installation times. This technology completely bypasses the need for adhesives and floor prep to install or replace flooring. Because machinery does not have to be completely moved or removed for installation, downtime for businesses can be minimized or even eliminated altogether.

“No matter where your business is located, shutting down your operations to replace flooring is costly. That expense can be a staggering cost for a business open for a normal 8- to 10-hour work day, never mind one that runs 24/7,” said Ricciardelli. “Combine the installation savings with static-control elements of our EcoStat products and you have a winning solution to flooring replacements for any number of industries.”
