Rodman CPAs of Waltham, a full service tax and accounting firm catering to small and medium-sized companies throughout the greater Boston area, donated more than 100 pounds of food to the Newton Food Pantry on Beacon Street just prior to Thanksgiving.

The firm was previously located in Newton for more than two decades and Steve Rodman, president, resides in Newton. The team felt it was important to support the local food panty.

“Community outreach is woven into our company culture and we believe very strongly in giving back and helping others in need,” noted Rodman.

Over the years, Rodman CPAs has supported a number of organizations and causes including Camp Clark, an Old Colony YMCA sponsored recreation camp for children located in Plymouth and Rosie’s Place in Boston.

Rodman & Rodman CPAs Take Part in American Biogas Council’s DC Fly-In

September 9, 2015 //  by admin

Kathy Parker, CPA, MST, Partner and Elysha Sturm, Staff Accountant at Rodman & Rodman CPAs represented Massachusetts at American Biogas Council’s (ABC) DC Fly-In held July 20-23, 2015 in Washington D.C. Rodman CPAs is a full service tax and accounting firm specializing in green energy and clean technology.

Rodman CPAs are members of ABC, which promotes the Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas Industry. The Rodman team was among 24 ABC members from 11 states to attend meetings in the House and Senate on Capitol Hill, and a special Biogas Stakeholder Forum hosted by the USDA and EPA.

According to Parker, “One of the ABC’s primary goals is to ensure that renewable energy receives the same favorable treatment under federal and state laws as does fossil energy, and that all forms of renewable energy are treated equally on a comparative basis.”

Parker and Sturm had an opportunity to provide feedback on the next steps that USDA, EPA and DOE plan to take to support biogas project deployment. The Rodman team met with key staff of the offices of Senator Jerry Moran, Senator Maria Cantwell, Senator Charles Schumer, Senator Ed Markey, Congressman Mike Thompson and Jim Lyons, Tax Counsel -Senate Finance Committee Majority Staff and urged their support for Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), which provides a demand and a marketplace for biogas.

The Rodman team also urged support of the extension of renewable electricity tax credits, as the Production Tax Credit (PTC) and the Investment Tax Credit (ITC) are essential in helping to drive investment in renewable energy. Additionally, they urged support of continued discretionary funding for Farm Bill programs (including include REAP, the Renewable Energy for America Program) and to maintain the mandatory funding levels passed in the Farm Bill.

“There was a Bill on the table that was presented to congress by the finance committee which would extend ITC/PTC for two years.  It was exciting to hear about it first hand, as typically extenders do not happen until the end of the year,” noted Parker. “Unfortunately, ITC/PTC was not extended at this time.”

Parker continued, “The purpose of the DC Fly-In was to continue the ongoing awareness of the need for anaerobic digester and the importance they bring to the renewable sector. It is imperative for these projects to continue to receive tax credits. Our goal at the DC Fly-In was to work with congress on tax extenders and other funding opportunities for the projects.”

About the ABC

The ABC’s mission is to create jobs, environmental sustainability, and energy independence by growing the U.S. biogas industry. The ABC represents over 200 organizations across the renewable energy, agriculture, waste and wastewater management, and transportation industries, including facility owners/operators, manufactures of tanks, engines, and other equipment, engineering organizations and institutions, utilities, financiers and lenders, and local and regional governments.

Preventing tax overbites. “The Ten Most Expensive Tax Mistakes…that cost Dentists Thousands”, written and offered free by Millbury–based Accountant Paul Dion.

May 15, 2014 //  by admin

Paul Dion, CPA CTC.
Paul Dion, CPA CTC.

MILLBURY, MA…

When it comes to holes, dentists typically know what to do: drill and fill. When it comes to loopholes—specifically tax loopholes that are available to all small business owners, many dentists aren’t quite as informed. In his new book “The Ten Most Expensive Tax Mistakes…that cost Dentists Thousands”, Millbury, MA-based accountant Paul Dion CPA demonstrates how many of these “loopholes” are excellent tax strategies for dentists and self-employed individuals—if you know how to implement them and then make them audit-proof.

“Before a dentist does any work on a patient, they look around, probe and then take x-rays so they can form a plan to treat a patient and then perform the treatment.

Optimizing tax opportunities for small business owners like dentists is very similar. It’s all about diagnosis and treatment,” said Dion.

Some of the topics covered by The Ten Most Expensive Tax Mistakes… include discussion of the right benefits for you and your employees; taking advantage of all the legitimate deductions, credits, loopholes and strategies the Tax Code offers; and selecting the right retirement plan for your future.

Dion, with three decades of experience providing tax and business advice, noted, “Many dentists, in fact probably most, are doctors first, business owners second. And thank goodness for that. But that doesn’t mean they can’t be equally adept at business, too.

My book covers some very basic tax strategies that can benefits dentists and small business owners of any kind. It’s a worthwhile read and a great starting point to taking control of your financial future.”

In addition to his publishing efforts, Dion often speaks to associations and groups, as well as other small business networking groups, regarding these tax strategies. To book Dion as a speaker, call (508) 853-3292.

CTC published “The Ten Most Expensive Tax Mistakes…”.  The book is available to individuals and business owners for free, although there is a $4 cost of shipping the 76-page book.
