Summer campers are enjoying the great outdoors at Camp Clark in Plymouth, MA thanks in part to the efforts of Rodman & Rodman P.C., a full service tax and accounting firm based in Newton, MA.

Rodman & Rodman has been a long-time supporter of Camp Clark, an Old Colony YMCA sponsored recreation camp for children. Prior to the start of the 2015 camp season, Rodman & Rodman’s team of 18 spent a full day landscaping Camp Clark to ready it for more than 400 youth campers who attend each week. The team cleaned up the beach and spread 80 yards of wood chips, 10 yards of mulch and plenty of sand.

“The Rodman team volunteered more than 100 hours preparing Camp Clark for our busy summer camp, which runs from 7 am to 6 pm daily. They took on projects that would have taken us longer than two weeks to complete,” said Derek Paiva, Executive Director of Old Colony YMCA. “The Y was founded on volunteerism and the Rodman team sets a great example. We truly appreciate their hard work which has contributed to the overall success of our camp.”

Rodman & Rodman P.C. Appoints Caroline Gosselin as Staff Accountant

As staff accountant at Rodman & Rodman, Ms. Gosselin will be responsible for tax preparation and financial statement reviews. Ms. Gosselin holds a Bachelor of Science and Business Administration in Accounting from Bryant University in Rhode Island. She is pursuing a Master’s degree in accounting from St. Joseph’s College of Maine and she intends to sit for the CPA exam upon graduation.

Prior to Rodman & Rodman, Ms. Gosselin was an accounting assistant in the controller’s office at Bryant University for more than three years. She also served as a volunteer income tax assistant at VITA/IRS.

Ms. Gosselin resides in Brighton, MA.

Rodman & Rodman CPA to Hold QuickBooks Seminars for Business Owners

Rodman & Rodman, P.C., Certified Public Accountants and Business Strategists will offer complimentary QuickBooks seminars for business owners at two locations in January.

On Tuesday, January 5, 2010, from 7:30 a.m.- 9:30 a.m., a QuickBooks seminar will be held at Rodman & Rodman’s Newton office located at 3 Newton Executive Park.

On Tuesday, January 12, 2010 from 7:30 – 9:30 a.m., a QuickBooks seminar will be held at the company’s Braintree office located at 50 Braintree Hill Office Park in the second floor Conference Room.

Rodman & Rodman CPA Advises Businesses of New Sales Tax Impact on Accounting, POS Systems

Governor Patrick recently signed legislation that increases the sales and use tax rate and makes other tax changes that may significantly impact businesses.

Rodman & Rodman, P.C. Certified Public Accountants and Business Strategists, have outlined the tax provisions that take effect August 1, 2009 that may affect accounting systems, cash registers or POS systems of businesses.

· The sales and use tax rate is increased to 6.25 percent from 5 percent.

· The local excise tax rate that cities or towns, except Boston, may impose on the transfer of occupancy of any room in a bed and breakfast, hotel, lodging house or motel located in the city is increased to up to 6 percent of the total amount of rent for such occupancy. The rate for Boston is raised to 6.5 percent.

· The tax exemption for sales of alcoholic beverages is eliminated.

· The new legislation authorizes cities and towns to impose an additional local sales tax on restaurant meals. This legislation is effective October 1, 2009. Specific jurisdictions will enact this new tax, so be sure to check with your accountant.

“To address these changes, businesses may need to update their accounting system, cash registers or POS systems. In addition, many businesses may want to finalize major purchases subject to sales and use tax prior to August 1 to take advantage of the lower rate,” according to Tom Astore, CPA, JD, Tax Manager at Rodman & Rodman (http://www.rodmancpa.com)
