Kevin Conrad Heating & Cooling Expands Geothermal Solutions for Nantucket residents and businesses

January 11, 2015 //  by admin

KCHC_Classic_WEB_Blue copyGiven the acceptance of geothermal in the marketplace and the newer technologies available, Kevin Conrad Heating & Cooling of Nantucket has expanded their geothermal solutions.

Kevin Conrad Heating & Cooling is the premier, certified geothermal heating and cooling system expert installer, as well as Nantucket Island sheet metal instructor, catering to many residential and commercial customers.

“With a geothermal heating and cooling system, homeowners can benefit from utility bills that are between 25 and 70 percent lower than conventional systems. Geothermal requires less maintenance, yet it provides higher levels of comfort year-round. Additionally, it’s environmentally responsible,” said Kevin Conrad, owner.

A geothermal heating and cooling system is unlike conventional natural gas or oil systems. It takes advantage of the earth’s consistent temperature by way of geothermal heat pumps, which move heat from the earth to the home via electricity.

With geothermal, there are no carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide or hydrocarbon emissions. Geothermal zoned heating provides superior comfort, and geothermal central air is twice as efficient as conventional central air systems.

High Quality Equipment and Expert Installation

Using special software and computers, Kevin Conrad Heating & Cooling designs each system for a home or business.  The geothermal HVAC equipment manufacturers that Kevin Conrad Heating & Cooling use are the best available, to ensure that the system will provide low impact comfort for many trouble free years.

The company has a full sheet metal shop on premise to fabricate custom ductwork for any installation.  Kevin Conrad Heating & Cooling ducts are custom ductwork, which increases return on investment. Proper insulation is key, particularly in stately homes to ensure heat/cool air doesn’t escape, and Kevin Conrad Heating & Cooling applies energy efficient insulating spray foam to all applicable areas.

Kevin Conrad Heating & Cooling offers comprehensive preventative maintenance, which includes an annual system tune-up and on-call 24/7 emergency service.

Conrad continued, “Geothermal heating and cooling saves money as well as preserves Nantucket’s pristine environment. It’s a winning combination.”

About Kevin Conrad Heating & Cooling

Kevin Conrad Heating & Cooling has been serving Nantucket residents and businesses since 2004.  A fully licensed, insured and certified HVAC contractor, Kevin Conrad Heating & Cooling is recognized by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and Dun & Bradstreet (D&B). They are members of the Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce.

Kevin Conrad Heating & Cooling provides equipment, installation and service for air conditioning, oil and gas boilers, humidification systems, heat pumps, geothermal heating & cooling and ventilation systems. The company also provides duct cleaning, self-learning thermostats and sheet metal fabrication.

Renowned for their expertise, high quality products and world-class customer service, Kevin Conrad Heating & Cooling is trusted by many islanders and numerous businesses. They service and install the largest and smallest systems on the island. The company’s founder, Kevin Conrad, was born and raised on Nantucket and understands the unique needs of customers living 30 miles off the mainland. Winters Plumbing Pros Offer Tips to Prevent Pipes from Freezing

January 11, 2015 //  by admin

wintersVans1With artic temperatures and extremely low wind chill this week, Winters Home Services, an award-winning provider of plumbing, heating, cooling, and air quality services to residents throughout the greater Boston area, shares tips on how to prevent pipes from freezing.

“Pipes get cold, and they need warmth just like we do. Homeowners should properly insulate them and take steps to avoid pricy disasters,” explained Tim Flynn, owner of Winters Home Services.

Here are a few tips from the Winters plumbing pros:

The pipes under the kitchen and bathroom cabinets are usually not insulated, but those areas are considered “cold space”. Be sure to open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warm air to circulate around the pipes. (Remove any hazardous household cleaners when leaving doors open, so children and pets do not have access to them.)

Turn on your water taps in the kitchen and bathrooms to a slow drip/trickle, as this prevents the pipes from freezing.

At night, leave your thermostat set at the same daytime temperature.

The basement, attic and garage are unheated areas where water supply lines may be located. These pipes need to be insulated in order to prevent them from freezing. There are specific products that may be found at most home improvement stores such UL-listed “heat tape” or a “pipe sleeve” which may be used to protect exposed water pipes. In a pinch, you can also use layers of newspaper to wrap the exposed pipes to protect them during freezing temperatures until you can properly insulate them.

“By taking these measures to prevent your pipes from freezing, your water and heating bills may be slightly higher this month, but you’ll have avoided a very costly repair job due to frozen or burst pipes,” noted Flynn.

If your pipes do freeze, you can safely treat them by applying heat to a section of pipe using a hair dryer on the pipe or by wrapping an electric heating pad around the pipe. Or, instead wrap towels soaked in hot water around the pipe. Turn the tap on while you apply the heat, so as the water starts to flow, it will further help melt the ice in the pipe. Never use any sort of open flame or open flame device to defrost the pipes.

If you need guidance or service for frozen pipes, contact the Winters team at 617-776-5950.

Is Your Home Ready for Winter? Winters Home Services Advises Homeowners to Check Furnace, Hot Water Heater, Sump Pump

December 15, 2014 //  by admin

DSC06078 smallThe Old Farmer’s Almanac has predicted that it’s going to be another extremely cold winter with above-normal snowfall. Winters Home Services, an award-winning provider of plumbing, heating, cooling, and air quality services to residents throughout the greater Boston area, advises homeowners to get their home systems tuned-up and ready for winter.

“During the recent Nor’easter, we received over 300 calls in a 24-hour period from customers without heat or hot water, flooding and sump pumps not working,” said Winters owner Tim Flynn, a master plumber with 20 years in the business and 60,000 happy customers. “The best way to avoid a home system emergency, such as no heat, is by having routine system check-ups and maintenance.”

Flynn offers these tips:

Have a professional home systems inspection and tune-up. Homeowners expect their heating systems to work 24/7, yet they never have them inspected. An out of tune heating system works harder, wastes energy and actually costs more to run. Annual inspection and maintenance of home systems is imperative. During the tune-up, filters are changed and all is inspected to ensure the systems are working at their optimum so that you are not left without heat and in need of emergency service.

The same goes for the hot water heater. Have it inspected to ensure that it’s in good working order. If it’s 10 or more years old, consider replacing it. Some signs that it needs to be repaired or replaced: hot water that doesn’t last long or fails to maintain a consistent temperature; leaking under the tank; corrosion or rust on the tank; and strange noises coming from your water heater. Consider replacing your traditional storage water heater with a Tankless Water Heater, which will ensure immediate delivery of hot water when you need it and provide significant water and energy savings.

If you have a sump pump, get it inspected every year to ensure that it works when you need it most. Not sure if you need a sump pump? If you have had minor basement flooding on occasion, discuss it with your plumber who can advise you of your options.

Finish the fall clean up.  Before it snows, inspect vents and chimneys to make sure they are unobstructed. Clear leaves and vines; prune shrubs and plants so they do not block vents.  When it snows, make sure to check that your vent is not blocked by snow and keep it clear. You don’t want anything to block the exhaust, which can cause carbon monoxide to back up into the home as well as trigger heating system shut-off or malfunction.

Take advantage of technology. Monitor, measure and control your home systems with Winters’ state-of-the-art CarePlus Home Monitoring program enables homeowners to monitor, measure and access the most important systems – from water sensors (which can detect leaks and usage), home energy meters, and carbon monoxide detectors to thermostats, lights, door locks and more- through any Smart device. It’s one of the easiest ways to monitor your home systems, conserve energy and maximize savings.

According to Flynn, “Essentially, CarePlus provides home automation and monitoring to ensure the optimal operation and safety of home systems and the maximum in energy savings, backed by ‘first-in-line’ service and accountability that only a local company can provide. At the first sign of trouble, such as a leak or significant temperature change, a damage prevention alert is sent to the homeowner’s Smart device. The homeowner can then resolve the issue through their Smart device or call in our team to fix the problem before it becomes a catastrophe.”

Winters offers three different CarePlus plans for greater peace of mind. All plans include at least two annual visits from Winters, where 137 heating, cooling and plumbing items are checked, along with check-ups on all monitoring devices without additional costs.

Conserve Water, Save Money – Tips from Winters Home Services Plumbing Pros

November 5, 2014 //  by admin

wintersVans1The average family uses approximately 300 gallons of water per day (about 30 percent of that usage is outdoor) according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. From showers and toilets to washing machines, dishwashers and more, that’s a lot of water.

Winters Home Services, an award-winning provider of plumbing, heating, cooling, and air quality services to residents throughout the greater Boston area, advises homeowners on how to reduce water and energy consumption and save money. Since the bathroom is where the most water is consumed on a daily basis, Winters offers these tips:

Replace older showerhead models – There’s a much higher cost associated with older showerheads, which use more than five gallons of water per minute. Not only is water wasted, it puts a lot of demand on your water heater and drives up energy bills. Nowadays, the ultra low-flow showerhead models (displaying the WaterSense label) use only two gallons of water per minute and perform better than ever.

Save water and time spent cleaning – Consider upgrading your toilet to one that uses less water per flush. The Department of Energy standard is one point six gallons per flush, but if you have an older toilet, you may be using well over three gallons per flush. There are many options available that use a lot less water and have the added benefit of staying cleaner longer. Some of the most innovative models on the market today include TOTO’s Double Cyclone that uses a little over one and a quarter gallons per flush and has a dual nozzle water propulsion system (ensuring that cleaner bowl) to TOTO’s eWater+, which utilizes electrolyzed water (a proven disinfectant), reducing the need for harsh cleaning chemicals.

Don’t waste water waiting for it to heat up – We’ve all been there. If you turn on the sink or shower and wait anywhere from 30 seconds to over a minute for the water to heat up, precious gallons of clean water (and your money) go down the drain. Consider replacing your traditional storage water heater with a Tankless Water Heater or installing a Hot Water Recirculating System. Either one will ensure immediate delivery of hot water when you need it and provide significant water and energy savings.

Fix those leaks – If you have a leaky faucet, toilet or pipe in your home, fix it immediately before it becomes a bigger and more expensive problem.  Even if it’s a slow leak, it can account for more than 10 percent of your water usage, which means a significant amount of your money (like the water) trickles out of your pocket over time. If you don’t know if you have a leak, your water meter readings are the clue. When water is not in use, check the meter twice in a two-hour time span. If the readings change, then there is a leak somewhere in your home.

Monitor, measure and control your systems with new technology – Winters’ state-of-the-art CarePlus Home Monitoring program enables homeowners to monitor, measure and access the most important systems – from water sensors (which can detect leaks and usage), home energy meters, and carbon monoxide detectors to thermostats, lights, door locks and more- through any Smart device. It’s one of the easiest ways to conserve energy and maximize savings.

Winters Home Services Offers Tips to Prepare for Cold Weather and Conserve Energy

October 1, 2014 //  by admin

Winters Home Services, an award-winning provider of plumbing, heating, cooling, and air quality services based in Cambridge, MA, offers homeowners tips to prepare for the cold weather and conserve energy.

With 20 years in the business and 60,000 happy customers, Winters owner Tim Flynn understands New England weather and the critical heating and home issues that can arise. Flynn offers these tips:

Inspect vents and chimneys to make sure they are unobstructed. Clear leaves and vines; prune shrubs and plants so they do not block vents. Anything around a vent or chimney needs to be removed as it can block the exhaust, which can cause carbon monoxide to back up into the home as well as trigger heating system shut-off or malfunction.

Install, check and/or replace smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. Both fire and carbon monoxide can be deadly and silent. Manufacturers recommend replacing detectors every five years.

Have a professional heating and cooling inspection and tune-up. Homeowners expect their heating and cooling systems to work 24/7, yet they never have them inspected. An out of tune heating or cooling system works harder, wastes energy and actually costs more to run. Annual inspection and maintenance of home systems is imperative. Filters are typically changed annually, but Winters recommends changing filters a minimum of three times per year to ensure the systems are working at their optimum.

Monitor energy consumption and control usage through new technology. Through Winters CarePlus Home Monitoring program, homeowners are able to measure their energy usage and reduce it by easily controlling heating and cooling remotely via a Smart device.

A Smarter, Safer Home

Not only does it help conserve energy, Winters’ CarePlus Home Monitoring program provides safety and peace of mind by enabling homeowners to monitor and access their home’s most important systems – from water sensors and home energy meters, carbon monoxide detectors and thermostats to lights, door locks and more- through any Smart device.

Three different CarePlus plans are available. All plans include at least two annual visits from Winters, where 137 heating, cooling and plumbing items are checked, along with check-ups on all monitoring devices without additional costs.

To schedule heating and cooling home maintenance or CarePlus consultation, contact Winters at 866-482-7586.

For a limited time, new CarePlus Home Monitoring customers will receive a free Mass Save Thermostat (with redemption), as well as discount off monitoring devices. Winters provides standard next-day installation. To learn more, visit www.wintershomeservices.com.

Winters Home Services Sponsors Harbor to the Bay Charity Bike Ride on September 20th

September 17, 2014 //  by admin

DSC06078 smallWinters Home Services, an award-winning provider of plumbing, heating, cooling, and innovative CarePlus Home Monitoring services, is sponsoring the Harbor to the Bay charity bike ride from Boston Harbor to Provincetown Bay on September 20, 2014.

Winters Home Services Launches Real Time Home Monitoring Program Backed by On-the-Spot Service

September 16, 2014 //  by admin

wintersVans1Just realized you may not have shut the garage door after exiting? What if there’s a flood, a leaking water heater or a carbon monoxide alarm while you’re away from home?  What about kids and pets at home? Winters Home Services, an award-winning provider of plumbing, heating, cooling, and air quality services, is the first to offer an industry leading CarePlus Home Monitoring Program to residents throughout greater Boston.

With 20 years in the business and 60,000 happy customers, Winters Home Services owner Tim Flynn understands New England weather and the critical heating, cooling and plumbing issues that can arise along with the concern of keeping your family safe. Recognizing the value of being able to control and monitor customers’ home systems, in real time, through a Smart device, Flynn worked with MIT experts in the development of this sophisticated technology.

Winters’ CarePlus Home Monitoring program provides safety and peace of mind by enabling homeowners to monitor and access their home’s most important systems – from water sensors and home energy meters, carbon monoxide detectors and thermostats to lights, door locks and more – through any Smart device. Essentially, CarePlus provides home automation and monitoring to ensure the optimal operation and safety of home systems and the maximum in energy savings, backed by “first-in-line” service and accountability that only a local company can provide. At the first sign of trouble, such as a leak or significant temperature change, a damage prevention alert is sent to the homeowner’s Smart device. The homeowner can then resolve the issue through their Smart device or call in the cavalry – the Winters team – to fix the problem before it becomes a catastrophe.

Three different CarePlus plans are available. All plans include at least two annual visits from Winters, where 137 heating, cooling and plumbing items are checked, along with check-ups on all monitoring devices without additional costs (which includes battery changes and diagnostics). Unlike other companies that simply offer home automation and security, Winters goes the extra mile by monitoring and resolving any system issues that arise before they become serious and cause extensive, and often expensive, damages. Winters does not require a contract, and service may be disconnected at any time without penalty.

“Our CarePlus Home Monitoring provides the peace of mind needed for today’s busy lifestyle.  Whether you’re hours away from home or you have a second home, our monitoring system provides you complete home awareness at all times. Plus, we go well beyond just providing the technology.  Once you receive an alert, simply press ‘call Winters’ on your Smart phone and we will send out an technician to solve your issues. Consider the Winters team as the cavalry coming to the rescue,” said Flynn.

For a limited time, new CarePlus Home Monitoring customers will receive a free Mass Save Thermostat (with redemption), as well as discount off monitoring devices. Winters provides standard next-day installation. To learn more, visit www.wintershomeservices.com.

Back Bay Plumbing Company’s New Leader Continues Exceptional WOW service

August 14, 2014 //  by admin

wintersVans1Winters Home Services, an award-winning home services business providing plumbing, heating, cooling, drain cleaning and air quality services, announces the continuation of a solid brand, formerly known as Hub Plumbing & Mechanical, in the Back Bay area.

Under the leadership of licensed Master Plumber Tim Flynn, Winters Home Services, which recently merged with Hub Plumbing, carries on the tradition of signature customer service. Experienced teams of licensed technicians provide the same personal service and attention to detail, such as protecting the homeowner’s floors by covering their work boots with stain-resistant booties, and arriving on time and smartly dressed in crisp, clean uniforms. In addition, to ensure credibility, a bio of a technician prior to the appointment including his field experience and photo is sent to the customer.

With a large fleet of trucks, extended customer service hours including Saturday and Sunday service calls as well as 24/7 emergency service, Winters capably meets all the plumbing and home service needs of Back Bay residents. Winters assists residential customers with sewer/drain clogs, garbage disposals, water heaters, water filtration, steam and hot water boilers, thermostats, leaky faucets, tub valves, gas pipes, appliance installation, outside hose faucets, and HVAC service.

“Having faithful, life-long customers means a lot to us, so we shower every customer with WOW service – our gold standard treatment,” said Flynn.
