Treasurer Steve Grossman, Representative Steve Walsh Keynote Mass Home Care’s 28th Annual Lunch

June 14, 2011 //  by admin

On Monday, two prominent “Steves” will address a crowd of elder and disability rights advocates at the 28th Annual Meeting of the Mass Home Care Association. State Treasurer Steve Grossman will be talking about his new “financial literacy” initiative, and House Health Care Financing Chairman Rep. Steve Walsh will be talking about health care reform and global payments.

12 staff members from Old Colony Elder Services, the regional elder services agency headquartered in Brockton, including Executive Director Diana DiGiorgi and Assistant Executive Director Tim Valentine, will be among the 250+ expected guests at the Burlington Marriot hotel beginning at 11:30 AM.

Treasurer Grossman will speak first at 11:45 AM, and Chairman Walsh will speak after lunch around 1 pm.

Mass Home Care, which was founded in 1986, is one of the most visible statewide groups fighting for the rights of elderly and disabled individuals. Mass Home Care wrote the Equal Choice law, which was signed by Governor Mitt Romney in 2006. This law says that people on MassHealth have the right to be cared for in the ‘least restrictive setting” appropriate to their needs. Mass Home Care, and its members, is also responsible for securing hundreds of millions in state and federal funding to help keep people living at home; the 30 member agencies provided care management, coordination and monitoring of services for more than 64,000 individuals last year.

According to Mass Home Care, because of community-based programs, MassHealth’s use of nursing facility days has decreased by 29% since 2001; in 2011 this will save state taxpayers almost $600 million in institutional costs. Nursing facility care still comprises 64 percent of all long term care spending by MassHealth. The group says its goal is to reach the point where two-thirds of MassHealth funding goes into community care, where consumers want to be.

For more event details, contact: info@masshomecare.org, or call Mass Home Care at 978-502-3794.

Looking for a few good men. eLove announces Over-40 Men’s Division for singles re-entering the dating game.

June 10, 2011 //  by admin

NORWELL, MASSACHUSETTS…

As astronauts prepare to re-enter the earth’s atmosphere, they put on a special suit. This suit not only takes into account the climate change, but the condition of their bodies after a difficult journey. The newly single 40-something male does not have that luxury to ease their re-entry into the dating world. That’s why eLove, one world’s largest professional matchmaking services, recently created a special division to cater to the needs of newly single men over 40.

“When you come out of a divorce or breakup and you haven’t been on a date in a while, it can feel like you are on another planet where you don’t speak the language and all the rules of society have changed,” said Paul A. Falzone, CEO of eLove. “With this new division, our matchmakers can provide male singles over 40 with a bit of a refresher course on dating and also help them mentally prepare to date once again.”

Some of that guidance involves going over the unspoken rules of dating, like: who picks up the tab; when and how often to call or text; should you kiss her goodnight on the first date, second?; how long should you date someone before becoming intimate; etc. Yet the real focus of the new division is mental preparation

“A lot of men who are over 40 and single again have not been single for quite some time. On top of that, many weren’t fathers and singles and that does change how you go about things,” said Falzone.

Whether you use a matchmaking company or not, Falzone recommends:

  • Going slow – perhaps it’s a cliché, but a divorce is a life-altering event and you do need some time to heal.
  • Avoid the bar scene – Getting out with friends and co-workers as a way to re-enter the social scene but don’t do it as a way to meet potential dates.
  • Get fit – Being ready to date again means feeling good about yourself. Starting an exercise program or going to a gym can begin that process of feeling good about  you again.
  • Be wary of dating at work – it’s natural for you to be close to people you work with, particularly if they’ve helped you through a tough time. Just be careful before entering into a relationship or even dating somebody at the office.
  • Networking – While being set up might not be your idea of getting back into the dating game, if you’re looking it couldn’t hurt to let people in your social or professional network know that you are interested in meeting new people.
  • The ex – It’s safe to say that dwelling on the ex will not do much good in dating new people. Just remember that you’re dating again for you, not to get back at him/her or to find somebody before he or she does.
  • Take your time before introducing your dates to friends and, especially family – if you think your divorce is an adjustment for you, it’s also one for family, friends and your children. Wait before introducing your date to them, especially the children.
  • No overnight guests – If you have children, wait a significant amount of time before having any overnight guests—at least until your date is something more serious and has had a chance to form some kind of a relationship with your kids.

“At 40, we’re supposed to be wiser to the ways of the world. But the dating world can be an entirely different world,” said Falzone. “With our new division, over 40 single males have not only the opportunity to meet the right person, but to have the information and be in the right mindset to make that love connection happen.”

South Shore Skin Center and Spa Offers Exclusive New ePrime

June 9, 2011 //  by admin

South Shore Skin Center and Spa, one of the most progressive dermatology practices in Massachusetts with offices in Plymouth and Cohasset, is one of the only providers in New England to offer the FDA-approved ePrime – a new, non-surgical skin tightening technology.

ePrime is a revolutionary new facial treatment technology that has recently been approved by the FDA for use in physician’s offices. It is an energy-based dermal volumizer device that tightens the skin and reduces wrinkles on the lower face and neck. ePrime is a non-surgical, minimally invasive facial enhancement with a quick recovery period of two to three days.

The procedure penetrates to the skin’s deepest layer, stimulating both collagen and elastin production. ePrime (Syneron) utilizes radio frequency energy to activate the dermis.

“We are excited to offer this cutting-edge procedure to our patients as a non-surgical alternative to traditional lifts,” noted Richard Eisen, M.D. “Its effectiveness is similar to other ablative lasers, yet it is unique because it also stimulates the production of new elastin and hyaluronic acid. Patients have noticeably improved skin tone and volume – a more youthful appearance.”

For questions or to schedule an ePrime consultation, contact South Shore Skin Center and Spa in Plymouth (508) 747-0711 or Cohasset (781) 383-3340.

Pan Mass Challenge’s Maine Man. Haley’s Tire’s Tim Haley is ready to ride and raise funds for Pan Mass Challenge.

Tim Haley of Haley's Tire

June 7, 2011 //  by admin

Tim Haley of Haley's Tire
Tim Haley of Haley’s Tire

BIDDEFORD, BANGOR, AUGUSTA AND FALMOUTH, MAINE…

Last year, Tim Haley, owner of Haley’s Tire and Service Center, raised nearly $25,000 as a participant in the Pan Mass Challenge, the Jimmy Fund’s two-day bike ride from Sturbridge, Massachusetts to Provincetown, Massachusetts. The South Portland resident recently announced plans to participate in this year’s Pan Mass Challenge minus one traveling companion—cancer.

Diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer in May 2009, Haley endured several operations and rounds of chemotherapy. And while his condition improved to the point where he was cleared to take part in the 2010 Pan Mass, a recent CT scan revealed no evidence of disease (NED).

“I told my doctor, Doctor Brian Wolpin of Dana Farber in Boston, that as long as he kept giving me birthdays, I would keep participating in the Pan Mass Challenge,” said Haley. “With this latest development with the NED, I’m looking to raise even more money for this year’s ride.”

The $24,000+ Haley raised in 2010 earned him a place among the Pan Mass Challenge’s “Heavy Hitters”,an elite group of 1680 PMC riders who generated more than $6300 in funds for the Dana Farber Institute. Included among that group is Massachusetts Senator John Kerry. Cyclists in the 192-mile Pan Mass Challenge must raise $4,200 to participate.

“The research and work they do at Dana Farber is phenomenal and it benefits people from all the New England states, frankly, people from all over the world. In fact, my doctor, Dr. Wolpin, was one of three research doctors that discovered a new trial drug that may eventually help me if needed,” said Haley.

For this year’s Pan Mass Challenge, Haley is riding on Team Headstrong, a group of cyclists from several New England states. Team Headstrong has a goal of raising $75,000, which will go to Dana Farber and Dr. Wolpin’s research.

“The people on Team Headstrong are folks I’ve met through Pan Mass who either have cancer or have been deeply affected by someone in their lives who had it,” said Haley.

Those interested in making a donation to Haley’s fight against cancer can do so by:

  • Sending a  check payable to PMC Jimmy Fund and mailing to: Tim Haley, 43 Woodmoor Road, South Portland, ME 04106 or;
  • EGIFT credit card online; simply go www.pmc.org, click on the logo at the top left, then enter Haley’s EGIFT ID “TH0130”. All major credit cards are accepted.

“Winston Churchill once said ‘If you are going through hell, keep going’,” said Haley. “Having endured two years of treatment, I can assure you that cancer is a form of hell. Riding in the Pan Mass and raising money for research is the best way I know to keep going and help defeat this awful disease.”

So close…Coastal Volkswagen comes to Hanover; new Volkswagen dealership to open this July on Route 53 in Hanover

Coastal VW

Coastal VW
Site of the new VW dealership in Hanover

HANOVER, MA…

Volkswagen owners and lovers are a special breed of drivers. Besides knowing what they like, VW owners are extremely loyal and willing to travel to get it. For VW lovers who live south of Quincy, that loyalty will soon be rewarded with the July opening of Coastal Volkswagen, located at One Saturn Drive in Hanover.

The new dealership, located on the southbound side of Route 53 just before the Hanover Mall, will sell both new and pre-owned Volkswagen automobiles. It will feature a state-of-the art service center with eight bays and customer amenities like a kids’ area, high-definition televisions and complimentary Wi-Fi in the waiting area. Coastal VW will also offer a complimentary shuttle service. Perhaps most importantly, the new dealership represents the only VW dealership and service center south of Quincy and north of Hyannis for Volkswagen owners who live, work or play in the Route 3 corridor.

“For two years, VW owners and people looking to buy a VW have had to travel quite a ways to get their car serviced or to purchase a new one. As good a mileage as VWs get, that can add up to quite a bit in gas money and be a day killer in terms of driving time,” said Richard Walker, co-owner of Coastal VW and a Hingham resident. “Besides the convenience for local VW owners, Coastal Volkswagen is a win for the local economy as we’ll not only be utilizing a site that’s been dormant for a while, but we’ll be hiring about 15 people to get the dealership up and running.”

Walker co-owns Coastal Dealership Group with Tom Norton of Cohasset. In addition to the 10,400-square-foot facility in Hanover, Coastal Dealerships owns and operates Coastal Nissan at 109 Accord Park Drive in Norwell and Coastal Auto Center located at 742 Cushing Highway in Cohasset.

Coastal Volkswagen will be open for business in the second week of July 2011 with 200 brand new VWs on the lot, including the much anticipated 2012 EOS, Jetta and Passat. The dealership will also have 100 pre-owned vehicles available.

“We’re positively thrilled about opening the new location and not just because our Sales Manager Mike Shea, a lifelong Hanover resident, will have a much shorter commute,” joked Norton. “A key part of the economy’s recovery is new small business creating new opportunities. We are looking forward to providing a boost to the South Shore area and giving VW owners a more convenient option for sales and service.”

For more information on Coastal Volkswagen, you can visit www.coastalvwboston.com..

About Coastal Dealerships Group

For more than 10 years, the Coastal Dealerships Group has not only made looking for a new or pre-owned automobile easy…but fun. Its latest dealership, Coastal Volkswagen, lives up to the standard set by the Group’s other dealerships, Coastal Nissan, located at 109 Accord Drive in Norwell, and Coastal Auto Center, located at 742 Cushing Highway in Cohasset. Coastal Volkswagen offers the same first-rate customer service and professionalism, with  no pressure sales and  straightforward, bottom-line pricing–including  fair trade-ins every time.

For more information on new and pre-owned automobiles, you can go to www.coastalvwboston.com or, come this July, stop by the dealership, conveniently located at 1 Saturn Drive in Hanover, just off exit 13 on Route 3.

Signage may be directly printed and die cut onto a variety of materials. From pocket folders, capability brochures with tabs, specialty and promotional packaging prototypes to point of purchase (P.O.P) displays, corrugated boxes and general signage, Webster One Source can meet the signage needs of businesses and individuals.

“We’ve received a good response to our new die-cut services from businesses as well as individuals. The individual consumers are thrilled to be able to obtain something as personal and unique as a life-sized cut out of their child for his/her birthday for as little as $125,” noted Ernie Foster, the company’s president.

One example of the company’s die cut corporate signs is their own – the Webster One Source sign on the front lawn.

Webster One Source recently invested in new software and a flat bed die cutter (which optically reads the layouts to assure accurate cut-to-print registration) to provide die cutting at an affordable cost. There is NO additional die-charge.
