Ride on! Law Offices of John C. Manoog donates bike safety equipment for Manomet Mystery Riders’ Toy Drive

December 11, 2012 //  by admin

Law Offices of John C. Manoog III Attorney Michael O’Malley, second from left, presents a check to the Manomet Mystery Riders’ Sue Lamoureux, Sue and John Eichinger. The donation went to safety equipment purchased by the Manomet Mystery Riders for bicycles purchased for their annual toy drive for the Salvation Army.

HYANNIS, AND PLYMOUTH, MA…

As a motorcycle club, the Manomet Mystery Riders are strong advocates for safe bike riding of any kind. So when the Riders hold their annual toy drive for the Salvation Army, every bicycle they purchase must come with necessary safety equipment—helmets, horns, reflectors, etc. This year’s drive had a not-so-secret Santa, the Law Offices of John C. Manoog III, which donated $500 to cover the cost of the safety equipment for the bicycles purchased for this year’s recipients.

“When we heard about the Manomet Mystery Riders toy drive, especially how they buy bicycles for older children and teens as well as the younger ones, we knew it was something we wanted to be involved with,” said John C. Manoog III, attorney and principal of the Law Offices of John C. Manoog III. “As personal injury attorneys, many of the cases we handle could have been avoided had the proper precautions been taken. Riding a bike is no different. Helmets, lights/reflectors and horns go a long way toward preventing accidents and minimizing the impact of spills.”

The Manomet Mystery Riders purchased 15 bicycles for this year’s toy drive, held on Sunday, November 25. The bikes were purchased at Benny’s department store located at 179 Court Street in Plymouth.

“We can’t thank Attorney Manoog enough for his generous donation,” said John Eichinger, treasurer for the Manomet Mystery Riders. “We give a variety of toys as part of our drive but for obvious reasons the bicycles are near and dear to our heart. John’s generous donation will help give a lot of children and teens a much happier holiday.”

Generosity combined with a safety message is nothing new for the Law Offices of John C. Manoog III. The firm recently partnered with Friendly’s and the Barnstable Police Department on a Halloween safety campaign that included passing out reflective lights for younger patrons of Friendly’s to use for trick-or-treating.

“We see too many accidents and unfortunate tragedies happen on account of negligence and just not thinking ahead,” said Manoog. “If there’s an opportunity to prevent something like that from happening, we’re happy to help.

Boston Podiatrist Offers Tips to Keep Feet in Tip-Top Shape During the Holiday Season

December 3, 2012 //  by admin

‘Tis the season for sky high, closed-toe stilettos, wedges and glitzy strap sandals. But how do you ensure foot comfort and health while donning fashionable footwear for the holidays?

Boston Common Podiatry, led by established Boston podiatrist and board certified foot surgeon Jordana Szpiro, D.P.M., F.A.C.F.A.S., offers six key tips for keeping your feet in tip-top shape during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.

If you suffer from:

Hammertoes – Be sure that if you’re wearing closed-toe shoes and that they are the correct size and have adequate room in the toe box.

Ingrown toenails – Avoid pointy toed shoes or shoes that are too small.

Flat feet or fallen arches – It’s best to find shoes with good arch support. Even in high heels, certain shoes have more contoured arches than others.

Plantar fasciitis – Contrary to popular belief, flat shoes aren’t the best solution for all foot problems. Heels will actually feel better than flatter shoes, but be sure to stretch your calf and behind the ankle well before bed. If you’re having pain in the bottom of the heels, avoid any type of kitten heel.

Ankle weakness or previous foot/ankle injury – Heels make your ankles very vulnerable to inversion injuries and sprains, so it’s best to wear something with an ankle strap and thicker heel. Wedges can be particularly destabilizing.

Additionally, avoid frostbite if you are out in open sandals by wearing tights or nylons if possible. Take transportation when possible, even if you’re not travelling a great distance and have a pair of socks handy for when in transit. If you think you may have suffered prolonged exposure, soak in warm, not hot water before bed and wear warm socks to bed.

According to Dr. Szpiro, “You can still wear the hottest styles, but choose wisely. If you have ongoing foot issues, these recommendations should be taken into consideration to ensure comfort and avoid further aggravation of the foot condition.”

About Boston Common Podiatry

Boston Common Podiatry specializes in the treatment of foot conditions including pain, fractures and sports-related injuries; complicated foot conditions caused by diabetes, arthritis and cardiovascular disease; pediatric podiatry and molded orthotics. From athletes and dancers to marathon runners and high-heeled fashionistas to seniors and children, the renowned Boston Common Podiatry cares for patients from the greater Boston and Cape Cod areas.

The practice’s physicians are affiliated with Partner’s Healthcare, Mt. Auburn Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Cambridge Health Alliance, and Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford. The office is handicapped accessible and they offer convenient, on-site x-ray services.
