Apollo Safety launches wastewater division

December 12, 2013 //  by admin

John V. Carvalho, President & CEO, Apollo Safety

FALL RIVER, MASSACHUSETTS…

Apollo Safety, Inc. a veteran-owned, Fall River, Mass.-based company specializing in safety products and services, recently announced the formation of a special division to serve wastewater treatment facility clients. The new division will feature extensive offerings for wastewater treatment facilities as it pertains to gas detection equipment, maintenance and monitoring.

“By their very nature, wastewater treatment plants require special precautions. For starters, we are talking about a confined space that has daily exposure to chlorine gas as part of the drinking water treatment and hydrogen sulfide on the waste treatment side. With our special division, we can offer a greater level of service for wastewater treatment facilities so they can proactively address the risks they face on a daily basis,” said John V. Carvalho III, president of Apollo Safety, Inc.

Those offerings include a wide variety of portable and stationary gas detection systems suitable for wastewater treatment plants, including name brands like Industrial Scientific, RAE Systems, RKI, and GMI. These systems are available for purchase or rental at weekly or monthly rates. Rental equipment is certified to NIST standards and is guaranteed for the entire rental period.

In addition, Apollo Safety also provides on-site installation and training and 24/7 service. All Apollo Safety technicians are factory-trained and certified. In addition, Apollo offers its own training program, with five levels of certification. Apollo Safety technicians must be Level II or higher to service a wastewater treatment gas detection system.

“The advanced training our technicians receive provides an added level of safety and security for our clients,” said Carvalho. “Because of the training our techs receive, they can spot potential problems much sooner than techs without that training. That extra level of training can mean averting a major problem before it has the potential to become a tragedy. Or diagnosing a minor problem as part of a regular maintenance check that undetected could end up being a $4,000-5,000 repair.”

Apollo Safety provides service in a “state of the art” in-house service center, as well as offering on-site support with factory-trained technicians for both portable and stationary gas detection systems. Apollo uses only factory-original parts for repairs and repairs are made exactly to client requirements. Apollo guarantees a 10-day turnaround time with pre-approval, though 66 percent of all repairs are completed in five days or less. Free software upgrades included with all repairs.

For more information on Apollo Safety products and services, please call 800-813-5408 or visit www.apollosafetyproducts.net

Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac General Sales Manager Joe Wilkerson (far left) and Plymouth South Vice Principal Marc Loranger toast Plymouth South students have not only achieved perfect attendance so far this year but have also made the honor roll.

PLYMOUTH, MA…

As an incoming freshman, it can be difficult to stand out at a school the size of Plymouth South. In spite of the challenge of being the new kids on the block, 26 Plymouth South freshman have managed to distinguish themselves quite early in their high school careers, achieving a perfect attendance record and making the honor roll for the first term. For that, they were recently honored as winners of the Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac’s Driven Student of the Month Award.

“Freshmen have a lot of adjustments to make when entering high school, including a heavier homework load. The best way to absorb all the new things they are learning is to be here and study. This group of kids has done that,” said Marc Loranger, assistant vice principal and director of Plymouth South’s freshman academy.  “What makes their accomplishment even more special is that these are the only students in the entire school—including upper classmen—who made honor roll and had perfect attendance.”

For being chosen as the Driven Students of the Month, the group received a pizza party courtesy of Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac.

“Perfect attendance for more than a quarter is a noteworthy accomplishment on its own. To couple that with making the honor roll, that’s really impressive,” said Joe Wilkerson, general sales manager at Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac. “In selecting Driven Students, we look for kids who are going above and beyond inside and outside the classroom. These students have shown themselves to be very worthy recipients of our Driven Student Award.”

Students selected for the Driven Student Award include: James Addison, Andrew Armenio, Alexandra Birch, Emily Cannon, Tyler Chiocchio, Robert Colbert, Sydni Dabkowski, Sarah Donlan, Caroline Elrick, Samuel Ferreira, Laura Francis, Alyssa Goyette, Cameron Hunter, Shannon Lyons, Andrew Mahoney, Emily Manson, Kevin McManus, Nicole Mullally, Eileen Murphy, Elizabeth O’keefe, Jabon Rooney, Emily Spillane, Allysia Tavekelian and David Trombly.

Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac’s Driven Student program recognizes Plymouth high school students for their performance and achievements in and out of the classroom. Awarded on a monthly basis, recipients are selected by faculty and advisors at the student’s given school.

SelecTech upgrades FreeStyle Interlocking Flooring website

December 2, 2013 //  by admin

Thomas Ricciardelli of SelecTech, Inc.
Thomas Ricciardelli of SelecTech, Inc.

AVON, MA…

SelecTech, Inc., a leader in the manufacture of innovative flooring products from recycled materials, recently announced an upgrade of the website for its FreeStyle Interlocking Flooring website, www.freestyleflooring.com.

The new website features additional, high-resolution images, easier navigation and better information about FreeStyle’s commercial vinyl tiles, SelecTile industrial vinyl tiles and FreeStyle BioLock Liquid Tight vinyl tiles. That includes substantial content on sustainability and how FreeStyle products contribute to LEED points.

“The upgrade of the FreeStyle does a much better job of informing consumers about our products and what we bring to the table,” said Thomas Ricciardelli, president of SelecTech, Incorporated. “What I like best about the website is that it shows how far we’ve come as company in the past year and the variety and quality of products we offer and how those can benefit specific types of businesses.”

SelecTech’s FreeStyle flooring products are made using recycled material and are 100 percent recyclable. Utilizing a breakthrough interlocking technology, FreeStyle products completely bypass the need for adhesives and floor prep to install or replace flooring. This dramatically reduces installation times because old flooring can be left in place and machinery and furniture does not have to be completely moved or removed for installation.

Eastern Mountain Sports is one SelecTech customer profiled on the new website. Eastern Mountain Sports wanted an attractive and comfortable floor for its shoe department to provide customers with the proper setting for selecting new shoes. FreeStyle flooring, with its patented resilient composition, provided the perfect solution. With no installation hassles and no waiting for concrete to cure and adhesives to dry, the FreeStyle floor was snapped together on the concrete floor and ready to use immediately—helping the entire build-out project run more effectively.

Said a company representative, “Our mission is to encourage consumers to appreciate the outdoors and the responsibility that comes with this privilege. We wanted a ‘green’ flooring material that would be comfortable to walk on, install and maintain easily, and be reliable. FreeStyle helped us meet all of those needs.”

For more information on FreeStyle flooring products, visit http://www.freestyleflooring.com.

Weymouth dentist announces December as oral cancer screening month

December 2, 2013 //  by admin

Dr. Richard Wolfert, DMD – The Toothboss

SOUTH WEYMOUTH, MA…

According to the Oral Cancer Foundation, 42,000 people in the United States will be newly diagnosed with oral cancer in 2013. To raise awareness among his current patients and new patients, Dr. Richard Wolfert, AKA “The Toothboss”, has declared December “Oral Cancer Awareness Month” for his South Weymouth practice.

“I know the national Oral Cancer Foundation has an awareness month that takes place in April but heading into the holidays where people partake in many of the habits that can lead to oral cancers—smoking and drinking—I thought it important to create some additional awareness,” said Wolfert.

As part of Oral Cancer Awareness month, Wolfert and his team of hygienists will be speaking to patients about the behaviors that can lead to oral cancers, which includes, tongue, tonsillar, and throat cancer. Oral cancers can be genetic, but primarily people who smoke or use other tobacco products, drink alcohol or are exposed to the HPV-16 virus (human papilloma virus version 16), are at increased risk for developing the disease.

In addition, Wolfert, as he has done for the past 25 years, will continue to provide an oral cancer screening exams as part of each comprehensive exam that includes examination of the inside part of the cheeks, roof of the mouth the back side and underneath the tongue. As part of their exam, Wolfert’s hygienists, as a result of current research finding  will palpate the lymph nodes located in your neck and underneath your jaw to make sure the usually soft nodes are not hard which can be sign of a problem.

“As it is with any cancer, the earlier you detect it the faster you can treat it. And as the numbers indicate, oral cancers are treatable if detected soon enough and that’s why we are taking these extra steps to make our patients aware of this risk and be proactive by checking our patients annually,” said Wolfert.

According to the Oral Cancer Foundation website, “When found at early stages of development, oral cancers have an 80 to 90 % survival rate. Unfortunately, the majority are found as late stage cancers, and this accounts for the very high death rate of about 43% at five years from diagnosis, and high treatment related morbidity in survivors.”

For more information, you can visit the Oral Cancer Foundation’s website at http://oralcancerfoundation.org/.

Don’t get caught in the cold. Pre-winter coat and clothing tips.

November 27, 2013 //  by admin

kduboislapelsHANOVER, MA…

As far as seasons go, winter probably requires more preparation than any other. In addition to manning your home and automobile with snow removal equipment, it requires different wardrobe, both for what you wear indoors and outdoors. Waiting to get those garments ready before the first winter-like day can literally leave you out in the cold, particularly for items that need dry cleaning or mending.

“For most people, fall can be a blur with kids back in school and the beginning of other activities. For many, the last thing you’re thinking about is getting your winter coats and clothes ready,” said Kevin Dubois, CEO of Lapels Dry Cleaning, an innovative, environmentally friendly dry cleaning company based in Hanover, Mass. “You should really take a quick inventory of your winter clothes a week or so before Thanksgiving so if things need to go to the dry cleaner or tailor, you will be prepared to look your best for those first few sub-freezing days.”

Dubois recommends an immediate inspection of winter coats and jackets. If you have wool coats that were not cleaned before being put away for the summer/fall, check for moth damage.

“One habit people should really get into is cleaning their winter coats before putting them away for the season, particularly leather, suede and shearing garments,” said Dubois. “You should also be ‘weather proofing’ your leather and suede coats prior to wearing them out in the elements. This not only ensures a longer life of your garment but also makes it look its finest.”

A cleaning is just one part of getting winter clothing ready for the new season. You also want to have loose buttons, hooks and other closures repaired prior to the inclement weather. There’s nothing worse than having a coat that cannot be buttoned up on a freezing cold day. The same holds true for garments with open seams or falling linings. These areas take a lot of wear and should be fixed prior to the first snowflake.

“Winter can be a fun time of year but that level of enjoyment does depend on how well prepared you are for, especially from a clothing perspective,” said Dubois. “A few minutes of your time in November will help you stay warm and look great for the holiday season.”

Over the past dozen years, Lapels has pioneered its eco-friendly dry cleaning experience. Using the latest technology in equipment and cleaning solution, Lapels is one of the few dry cleaners around to be able to boast that there is no hazardous waste in their process. Lapels  environmentally-friendly cleaning process has no odor and is gentler on clothes, thus lengthening the life of clothes. At Lapels you can see, feel and smell the difference.

Lapels customers are greeted to a warm and inviting reception area, with friendly customer service representatives, and a full service on-site tailor.

Lapels offers its customers Automatic Rewards earning them credit towards free dry cleaning for every dollar they spend, Loyalty Programs, a VIP Program which eliminates the need to wait in line and the use of a 24 Hour Drop Off Service. Same day service is also available with pick-up after 5 pm.

JFK goes “FreeStyle”; SelecTech completes 75,000 sq. foot installation at JFK International Airport

November 25, 2013 //  by admin

AVON, MA…

SelecTech, Inc., a leader in the manufacture of innovative flooring products from recycled materials, recently completed work on a 75,000 square-foot installation at JFK International Airport in the Queens borough of New York City.

The project consisted of replacing the flooring at the baggage claim of the International Arrivals Terminal with SelecTech’s FreeStyle flooring. Work began in early September and was completed in October.

“There were several reasons we were awarded this job. Most significantly is that our FreeStyle product is an interlocking flooring that is adhesive-free and easy to install. We don’t have to move or remove furniture or machinery. That means the baggage claim has been 100 percent operational during the installation,” said Thomas Ricciardelli, president of SelecTech, Incorporated. “When you consider that down time can cost a traditional business up to $1 per square foot per day if you have to shut down to install or replace flooring, the benefits or our products for an airport that is open 24/7 are plentiful.”

In addition to the breakthrough interlocking technology and ease of installation, FreeStyle products are made with a patented blend of recycled plastic that resists moisture and installs easily over a variety of subfloors. This rugged material is perfectly constructed to overcome the rigorous demands of commercial environments like airports.

Backed by a 10-year commercial wear warranty, FreeStyle provides an attractive, functional floor surface for many years to come.
