Weymouth dentist announces December as oral cancer screening month

December 2, 2013 //  by admin

Dr. Richard Wolfert, DMD – The Toothboss

SOUTH WEYMOUTH, MA…

According to the Oral Cancer Foundation, 42,000 people in the United States will be newly diagnosed with oral cancer in 2013. To raise awareness among his current patients and new patients, Dr. Richard Wolfert, AKA “The Toothboss”, has declared December “Oral Cancer Awareness Month” for his South Weymouth practice.

“I know the national Oral Cancer Foundation has an awareness month that takes place in April but heading into the holidays where people partake in many of the habits that can lead to oral cancers—smoking and drinking—I thought it important to create some additional awareness,” said Wolfert.

As part of Oral Cancer Awareness month, Wolfert and his team of hygienists will be speaking to patients about the behaviors that can lead to oral cancers, which includes, tongue, tonsillar, and throat cancer. Oral cancers can be genetic, but primarily people who smoke or use other tobacco products, drink alcohol or are exposed to the HPV-16 virus (human papilloma virus version 16), are at increased risk for developing the disease.

In addition, Wolfert, as he has done for the past 25 years, will continue to provide an oral cancer screening exams as part of each comprehensive exam that includes examination of the inside part of the cheeks, roof of the mouth the back side and underneath the tongue. As part of their exam, Wolfert’s hygienists, as a result of current research finding  will palpate the lymph nodes located in your neck and underneath your jaw to make sure the usually soft nodes are not hard which can be sign of a problem.

“As it is with any cancer, the earlier you detect it the faster you can treat it. And as the numbers indicate, oral cancers are treatable if detected soon enough and that’s why we are taking these extra steps to make our patients aware of this risk and be proactive by checking our patients annually,” said Wolfert.

According to the Oral Cancer Foundation website, “When found at early stages of development, oral cancers have an 80 to 90 % survival rate. Unfortunately, the majority are found as late stage cancers, and this accounts for the very high death rate of about 43% at five years from diagnosis, and high treatment related morbidity in survivors.”

For more information, you can visit the Oral Cancer Foundation’s website at http://oralcancerfoundation.org/.

Dr. Wolfert’s practice is located at 1121 Main Street in South Weymouth, Massachusetts, and accepts most insurance plans. They also accept payment from most PPO and indemnity plans, including Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Delta Dental.

Don’t get caught in the cold. Pre-winter coat and clothing tips.

November 27, 2013 //  by admin

kduboislapelsHANOVER, MA…

As far as seasons go, winter probably requires more preparation than any other. In addition to manning your home and automobile with snow removal equipment, it requires different wardrobe, both for what you wear indoors and outdoors. Waiting to get those garments ready before the first winter-like day can literally leave you out in the cold, particularly for items that need dry cleaning or mending.

“For most people, fall can be a blur with kids back in school and the beginning of other activities. For many, the last thing you’re thinking about is getting your winter coats and clothes ready,” said Kevin Dubois, CEO of Lapels Dry Cleaning, an innovative, environmentally friendly dry cleaning company based in Hanover, Mass. “You should really take a quick inventory of your winter clothes a week or so before Thanksgiving so if things need to go to the dry cleaner or tailor, you will be prepared to look your best for those first few sub-freezing days.”

Dubois recommends an immediate inspection of winter coats and jackets. If you have wool coats that were not cleaned before being put away for the summer/fall, check for moth damage.

“One habit people should really get into is cleaning their winter coats before putting them away for the season, particularly leather, suede and shearing garments,” said Dubois. “You should also be ‘weather proofing’ your leather and suede coats prior to wearing them out in the elements. This not only ensures a longer life of your garment but also makes it look its finest.”

A cleaning is just one part of getting winter clothing ready for the new season. You also want to have loose buttons, hooks and other closures repaired prior to the inclement weather. There’s nothing worse than having a coat that cannot be buttoned up on a freezing cold day. The same holds true for garments with open seams or falling linings. These areas take a lot of wear and should be fixed prior to the first snowflake.

“Winter can be a fun time of year but that level of enjoyment does depend on how well prepared you are for, especially from a clothing perspective,” said Dubois. “A few minutes of your time in November will help you stay warm and look great for the holiday season.”

Over the past dozen years, Lapels has pioneered its eco-friendly dry cleaning experience. Using the latest technology in equipment and cleaning solution, Lapels is one of the few dry cleaners around to be able to boast that there is no hazardous waste in their process. Lapels  environmentally-friendly cleaning process has no odor and is gentler on clothes, thus lengthening the life of clothes. At Lapels you can see, feel and smell the difference.

Lapels customers are greeted to a warm and inviting reception area, with friendly customer service representatives, and a full service on-site tailor.

Lapels offers its customers Automatic Rewards earning them credit towards free dry cleaning for every dollar they spend, Loyalty Programs, a VIP Program which eliminates the need to wait in line and the use of a 24 Hour Drop Off Service. Same day service is also available with pick-up after 5 pm.

JFK goes “FreeStyle”; SelecTech completes 75,000 sq. foot installation at JFK International Airport

November 25, 2013 //  by admin

AVON, MA…

SelecTech, Inc., a leader in the manufacture of innovative flooring products from recycled materials, recently completed work on a 75,000 square-foot installation at JFK International Airport in the Queens borough of New York City.

The project consisted of replacing the flooring at the baggage claim of the International Arrivals Terminal with SelecTech’s FreeStyle flooring. Work began in early September and was completed in October.

“There were several reasons we were awarded this job. Most significantly is that our FreeStyle product is an interlocking flooring that is adhesive-free and easy to install. We don’t have to move or remove furniture or machinery. That means the baggage claim has been 100 percent operational during the installation,” said Thomas Ricciardelli, president of SelecTech, Incorporated. “When you consider that down time can cost a traditional business up to $1 per square foot per day if you have to shut down to install or replace flooring, the benefits or our products for an airport that is open 24/7 are plentiful.”

In addition to the breakthrough interlocking technology and ease of installation, FreeStyle products are made with a patented blend of recycled plastic that resists moisture and installs easily over a variety of subfloors. This rugged material is perfectly constructed to overcome the rigorous demands of commercial environments like airports.

Backed by a 10-year commercial wear warranty, FreeStyle provides an attractive, functional floor surface for many years to come.

To learn more about SelecTech products, including the FreeStyle and FreeStyle ESD flooring products, visit http://www.selectechinc.com.

About SelecTech, Inc.

SelecTech, Inc. was founded in 1993 with the mission of creating valuable products from scrap plastics. Their products are made with up to 100 percent recycled content, are 100 percent recyclable and installed without adhesives making them some of the “greenest” and most cost-effective flooring products available. The unique interlock system on SelecTech’s flooring products enable them to be installed at a much lower cost, without a lot of costly downtime, which provides significant value to customers.

Using state-of-the-art technology and innovative product design, SelecTech created the top performing Place N’ Go residential flooring products, which are available at Home Depot. November 21, 2013 //  by admin

PLYMOUTH, MA…

Last year several runners from MYTEAM TRIUMPH-Cape Cod, a 501(c)3 Charity, took part in the Plymouth Turkey Trot, a five-mile race held on Thanksgiving morning, starting from Plymouth Rock at the historic Plymouth waterfront. Emerson Bearing Biomedical Division Stands Boston Strong with prosthetics niche

November 19, 2013 //  by admin

BOSTON, MA…

Long before the Boston Marathon bombing, Emerson Bearing, providers of bearing and related products for OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Operations) markets throughout the U.S. and internationally, served prosthetics companies through its Robotic and Automation Division. Post-bombing, the company has doubled its efforts in serving prosthetics companies by creating a Prosthetics department within its Robotics and Automation division.

“As a Boston-based company, the senseless tragedy at the Boston Marathon really hit home, with the bombing being but a few short miles from our headquarters,” said Steve Katz, president of Emerson Bearing. “The creation of the prosthetics division gives us a great opportunity to serve many of those victims who received their prosthetic limbs from our client, BiOM. Not to mention the wounded veterans from the last dozen years of conflict overseas.”

Led by industry solutions expert, Rick Piracini, Emerson Bearing’s knowledgeable prosthetics team assists clients in determining which bearing technologies would be most suitable (Control bearings are ball bearings that allow the client to replicate the movement of the ankle). This starts by taking into consideration the specifications, recommendations, maintenance strategies, fatigue life and wear resistance of the bearing in relation to the prosthetic.

As part of the robotics and automation division, all prosthetics bearings receive the highest scrutiny for effectiveness and durability. All movements have to be supported with extremely high precision and reliability in every axis. This provides smooth running, high load capacity, rigidity and long life.

The ball bearings, miniature instrumentation bearings and linear motion bearings used for prosthetics are also utilized in a number of other biomedical applications, including clinical and imaging equipment such as centrifuges, X-ray and CT scan equipment, hospital room carts and hospital bed pulleys for lifting patients.

Emerson Bearing offers thin cross section, high capacity, ball bearings in radial, angular or four point contact styles. Plain bearings (bushings) for small radial or axial design envelopes, which are maintenance free, are available in metal backed style with a liner or thermoplastic with a composition to suit various needs: food grade, high load, dirty environment, etc. Emerson Bearing also provides off-the-shelf linear guidance for unique applications.

For more information for bearings for prosthetics, you can contact Rick Piracini in the Robotics and Automation division directly at  866-995-8765 or e-mail rickp@emersonbearing.com.

The Emerson Bearing Difference
In a proud tradition, the same families that started the company in 1957 keep Emerson Bearing rolling by specializing in bearings for OEM and MRO markets across the country. Emerson Bearing has a staff of 22 and a 23,000 square foot facility to provide bearings ranging in size from 3mm to tunnel-boring 15-foot-diameter giants.

Emerson Bearing offers customers a one-stop shopping experience. With an online product catalog with over 3 million bearings; a vast inventory of bearings; worldwide sourcing; a fixed price program; a knowledgeable staff dedicated to delivering; same day shipping and 24/7 service, Emerson Bearing has become the leading provider of bearings to OEM and MRO markets in the U.S. Emerson Bearing maintains headquarters at 201 Brighton Ave. Boston, MA. Plymouth Turkey Trot features the least visited most important monument—National Monument to the Forefathers

PLYMOUTH, MA…

Think Plymouth and what comes to mind? Thanksgiving, sure. Plymouth rock, of course. The Mayflower and Plimouth Plantation, no doubt. Yet perhaps the most important monument in town, the Forefathers Monument on Allerton Street, barely gets a sniff from visitors. On Thanksgiving Day that will change as several hundred runners participating in the Plymouth Turkey Trot will circle the National Monument to the Forefathers as part of the five-mile course.

Formerly known as Pilgrim Monument, the National Monument to the Forefathers commemorates the Mayflower Pilgrims. Dedicated on August 1, 1889, it honors their ideals as later generally embraced by the United States. At 81 feet high, it is thought to be the world’s largest solid granite monument, and is the third tallest statue in the United States.

“There are so many beauties to running a race in Plymouth on Thanksgiving Day. One, of course, is that you are in the birthplace of the Thanksgiving holiday. The other is that there’s so much more history to the area than just the Mayflower and Plymouth Rock,” said Steve Dubin, a spokesperson for the Plymouth Turkey Trot and Thanksgiving Day Pilgrim 5k Run and Walk. “With our two races– Plymouth Turkey Trot and Thanksgiving Day Pilgrim 5k Run and Walk—runners get the best of all worlds. Great course and great views while literally walking and running in the footsteps of our original settlers.”

The second annual Plymouth Turkey Trot starts at Memorial Park at Plymouth Rock at 7:45am. The five-mile course offers scenic views of the Plymouth’s picturesque oceanfront, and passes several historical sites including the aforementioned National Monument to the Forefathers, as well as Plymouth Rock, Burial Hill and The Mayflower.
