Managers Kim Sears and Sharon McDonald
Managers Kim Sears and Sharon McDonald

Between Rounds, a unique bakery café and bagel shop with locations throughout Connecticut, recently celebrated staff and store milestones.

Two managers were honored for their years of service. Between Rounds recognized Kim Sears, manager of the Vernon store, for 15 years of service.  Ms. Sears began her career at Between Rounds as a counter person and baker before being promoted to manager.  She oversees ordering, inventory, scheduling, hiring, promotions and strategic planning. A native of Ellington, Ms. Sears resides in Vernon.

Sharon McDonald, manager of the South Windsor location, was recognized for more than a decade of service – 11 years in May to be exact. Ms. McDonald, who had seven years experience working as a manager at a competitor’s store prior to Between Rounds, was a baker for one year at Between Rounds’ Manchester store before her appointment to manager of the South Windsor location. A native of Union, Ms. McDonald resides in Glastonbury.

“It is our privilege to recognize Kim and Sharon for their years of dedication and service, which have directly contributed to the overall success of our Vernon and South Windsor stores,” said Jerry Puiia, co-owner of the franchise.

20-Year Milestone

Between Rounds’ Manchester store celebrates their 20th anniversary this year.

“We opened the doors of our Vernon store in 1990 and business took off. We’ve been growing steadily ever since and have multiple locations. We’re proud to celebrate 20 successful years in Manchester,” noted Puiia.

Between Rounds is the brainchild of brothers Jerry and Joe Puiia, who are Staten Island, NY natives.  Between Rounds current locations include South Windsor (corporate headquarters), Vernon, Manchester and Tolland.  Between Rounds franchise opportunities are available. For more information, visit http://franchise.betweenroundsbagels.com.

Between Rounds Rolls Out Tasty Garlic Bagel Chips

June 5, 2014 //  by admin

betweenrounds logo 1Between Rounds Bakery Sandwich Café, a unique bakery café and bagel shop with locations throughout Connecticut, has recently unveiled their newest creation – Garlic Bagel Chips.

Baked fresh and available at all Between Rounds locations, Garlic Bagel Chips are out-of-this-world by themselves, but they are also dip’s best companion.

The hearty chips (priced at $2.99) blur the lines between mealtime and snack time and are perfect as a side to soup or a sandwich. Garlic Bagel Chips may be enjoyed with savory cream cheese, hummus, onion dip, salsa or any other desired topping.

Garlic Bagel Chips are the centerpiece of another Between Rounds favorite, the Giant Party Bagel, which was rolled out earlier this year.  The Giant Party Bagel is a two-pound bagel comprised of a delicious selection of fresh premium Boar’s Head brand deli-meats and cheeses, and completed with Garlic Bagel Chip-filled center.

Tons of caring. Lapels Dry Cleaning customers donate nearly 5 tons of clothing to Big Brother/Big Sister organizations nationwide

(L-R) Steve Beck, Big Brother Big Sister Foundation, May Situ and Bao Chen, owners of Lapels South End, and Kevin Dubois, CEO of Lapels Dry Cleaning.

HANOVER, MA…

When a clothing drive nets four tons of clothes, it’s difficult to expect more the following year—unless you happen to be talking about Lapels Dry Cleaning customers.  With three additional states worth of Lapels Dry Cleaning stores participating this year, Lapels Dry Cleaning clothing drive to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters generated 9480 pounds of clothes from customers in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Louisiana, Arizona, Missouri and New Jersey.

As impressive as the weight of the clothes might be, what it represents to Big Brothers Big Sisters organizations in those states is the real value of the drive. The clothes donated will be resold at various thrift shops and other second hand clothing stores, helping to fund Big Brothers Big Sisters programs.

“Our customers are the best. I say it all the time, but once a year during our drive for Big Brother Big Sister, Lapels Dry Cleaning customers prove it and then some,” said Kevin Dubois, CEO of Lapels Dry Cleaning, an environmentally friendly dry cleaner with more than 50 locations nationwide. “What’s really staggering about these donations is that the drive took place over two weeks, April 5 to April 19. That’s a lot of clothes in a very short period.”

By state, Lapels Dry Cleaning customers donated:

  • Massachusetts 6118
  • Arizona 420
  • Connecticut 345
  • Missouri 276
  • New Jersey 971
  • Rhode Island 600
  • Louisiana 750

“What was very encouraging was the level of participation in Louisiana, Connecticut and Missouri. This is the first year we have had stores from these states participate and their customers stepped right up,” added Dubois.

More than 30 Lapels Dry Cleaning stores participated.

“The partnership between Lapels Dry Cleaning stores and Big Brother Big Sister has been one of the true pleasures of my job,” said Steven Beck, executive director Big Brother Big Sister Foundation. “Lapels Dry Cleaning is a first-class organization and that’s reflected by their customers. We thank each and every one of them for their generous donations.”

Successful recipe for recent college grads – Between Rounds Bakery Sandwich Café business opportunity

April 29, 2014 //  by admin

betweenrounds logo 1Between Rounds, a unique bakery café and bagel shop with locations throughout Connecticut, has announced a new business opportunity for recent college graduates.

The Between Rounds Bakery Sandwich Café company is currently offering recent college graduates a franchise opportunity through their Gas Station and Convenience Market “Kiosk” program. The Between Rounds kiosk store is a non-traditional convenience store/gas station model that offers gas station customers the ability to purchase Between Rounds specialty coffee, fresh made breakfast and lunch sandwiches, fresh baked bagels and assorted bakery items from a clean, well-designed store (drive-thru window is optional) adjacent to the filling station.

Creating their own first job and career, college grads are able to take advantage of Between Rounds’ low start-up costs – with a discounted franchise fee of $18K and the overall investment coming in at approximately $120K for a standard store with no drive-thru – compared to similar franchises. The franchise opportunity for recent grads may also be attractive to parent/recent grad teams.

“Recent grads don’t have to be concerned about starting completely from scratch, developing a business plan, defining a market and so on,” explained Jerry Puiia, co-owner of the franchise. “They can put their newly acquired knowledge to work and launch their own business using Between Rounds’ recipe for success. We offer brand recognition, proven operations and plenty of training and support to ensure success. You could not ask for a better franchise opportunity than Between Rounds.”

The family-owned Between Rounds has been in business for more than two decades and is the brainchild of brothers Jerry and Joe Puiia, who are Staten Island, NY natives.  Between Rounds current locations include South Windsor (corporate headquarters), Vernon, Manchester and Tolland.

Between Rounds’ first kiosk store is located at 206 Merrow Road, Citgo Express Gas Station in Tolland.  It is owned and operated by Sami Kahn, a New York native who settled in Connecticut over a decade ago and now resides in Tolland. “I had looked into a number of coffee and fast food opportunities and was very impressed with Between Rounds from the start.  The products are very high quality and very fresh because they are made every day.  My main motivation is to provide the best product possible to customers,” noted Kahn.

Between Rounds Bakery Sandwich Café Expands Beverage Menu

April 7, 2014 //  by admin

betweenrounds logo 1Between Rounds, a unique bakery sandwich café and bagel shop with locations throughout Connecticut recently announced the addition of Fresh Brewed Iced Teas to their product line to meet growing consumer demand.

Between Rounds’ tea offerings, which include regular, decaf and herbal hot teas along with both hot and iced Chai tea, has been expanded to include Fresh Brewed Lipton Iced Teas. This unique line includes refreshing and “punchy” flavors such as Blackberry Sangria Tea (which is blackberry and pomegranate), Red Berry Tea (strawberry and pomegranate), Black Pearl (blackberry) and Strawberry Tea (strawberry). Each is garnished with a floating lemon ring.

Tea has become increasingly popular due to its powerful antioxidants and lower levels of caffeine. According to the Tea Association of the USA, more than half of the country’s population drinks tea and around 85 percent of the tea that is consumed is iced.

According to Between Rounds founder Jerry Puiia, “For many of us, iced or hot tea is a daily staple. Black, green and specialty tea consumption has increased exponentially over the past few years, and there is a significant demand for iced tea while dining out, to the extent that it now rivals specialty coffee sales.”

Unique Bagels & Sandwiches

Customer favorites to accompany Between Rounds’ Fresh Brewed Iced Tea include the “Morning Rounder” made with the best bagels found on the Eastern Seaboard; the unique Portobello Mushroom and Mozzarella Panini; and the customized wrap made with a quarter pound of the best Boar’s Head brand deli meats and cheeses complete with crave-worthy toppings.
