Emerson Bearing Announces Special Bearings for Semiconductor & Medical Equipment Industries

October 31, 2018 //  by admin

Severe environments call for special bearings. Emerson Bearing Boston, a bearing company catering to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) markets around the world, offers special bearings for corrosive and electrically charged environments in the semiconductor and medical equipment industries.

Equipment in both the semiconductor and medical industries are subject to stringent cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization procedures which often involve the use of harsh, corrosive chemicals. In these highly corrosive environments, specialized corrosion-resistant bearings are required to ensure proper functioning. Those working on equipment in the semiconductor and medical industries should consider bearings made out of materials such as titanium or AISI 304, AISI 440, or AISI 630 stainless steel.

Electrical current can be incredibly damaging to metal components. For bearings, it can cause a wide range of problems, including fluting in the races, pitting of the ball bearings, and degradation of lubrication. Medical equipment such as magnetic resonance imagers (MRIs), for instance, all involve high-stress environments with a great deal of electrical activity.

Ceramic bearings, as well as ceramic insulated metal bearings, are ideal for highly electrically charged applications. Ceramic materials, with a few rare exceptions, are very poor conductors of electricity; although they can accept large voltages, they are able to dissipate that electricity extremely effectively. The passing electricity causes little to no degradation.

“For highly corrosive environments, standard bearings simply fall short. Corrosion-resistant bearings are required to ensure proper functioning,” explained Steve Katz, president of Emerson Bearing. “In electrically charged environments, utilizing bearings that are poor conductors of electricity is imperative.”

With a sourcing network that spans the globe, Emerson Bearing Boston caters to clients in the semiconductor and medical equipment industries with a wide selection of severe-environment bearings that include: Ball and roller bearings from GMN, KOYO, and others; Cam followers and yoke rollers from Carter, IKO, and others; Rod ends from Durbal and FK; Oil seals from Garlock, Dichtomatik, and Timkens; Mounted units from AMI, IPTCI, and others; Roller chains from Daido, Hitachi, and Drives; and Bushings from IGUS and Oilite.

Katz continued, “When choosing the right type of bearing material for your specific application, the conditions must be kept in mind. Our team of bearing experts can assist in the right bearing selection and equip customers with the knowledge needed to avoid costly pitfalls and downtime.”

For more information, visit Emersonbearing.com or call 800-225-4587.

New safety app available on Cape Cod. Steering you in the right direction, Safety app connects injured to immediate help.

October 25, 2018 //  by admin

The new, innovative Aiken Safety smartphone app is now available to Cape Cod residents and may be a lifesaver for local families in the event of a car accident. Aiken and Aiken, the sponsoring law group, maintain offices at 83 Main Street, Hyannis, MA and 205 Worcester Court, Falmouth, MA.

Available at the Law Offices of Aiken & Aiken website, www.aikenandaikenpc.com, and other standard portals that apps are found, including the App Store and Google Play, the innovative app is built to discern a major impact auto accident and alert via text your predesignated family and friends. The app also pinpoints the accident site so that your designees can alert emergency personnel and provide critical information.

The app automatically detects when you’ve been in a car accident by using the Integral sensors (accelerometer and GPS) of your smartphone. The app algorithm, designed using actual car crash data from the National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA), accurately detects the difference between an actual car crash versus, for example, a dropped phone.

“The safety app and program is our proactive effort to promote better tools and information for Cape Codders and visitors to remain safe and sound,” noted Attorney Paul Aiken.

In addition to the cutting edge app, the safety program and Aiken and Aiken website include an Aiken Safety App video and additional information outlining Driving Safety Rules of the Road and Bike and Pedestrian Safety. The website and app also provide a link to Professional Driving Schools, a leading driving school serving the entire Cape and based in Hyannis.

Decals depicting safe driving, bicyclists and pedestrians are also available and are intended to remind all of us to put safety first. The 1,000 BeSafeRules.com Safety decals will be available in early November for distribution at the law office, Cape Cod Chambers of Commerce, and the Professional Driving School in Hyannis. Other distribution points will be established going forward.

For more information, visit Law Offices of Aiken & Aiken website, www.aikenandaikenpc.com or call 508-771-2266.

$30K Raised in Golf Tournament for Worcester School for Students with Autism

October 23, 2018 //  by admin

Carol Grady with her daughter and co-event organizer Micaela Grady

The first annual charity golf tournament to benefit the Center for Applied Behavioral Instruction (CABI), an accredited, private special education day school for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and challenging behaviors in Central Massachusetts, was a hole in one – raising $30,000 for the school.

CABI’s “1st Annual Achieve Golf Tournament”, held at Blackstone National Golf Club in Sutton, was the non-profit school’s major fundraiser of the year, and the funds go to directly enhancing and enriching the educational program for students with autism.

Golfers began the day with complimentary breakfast by Gerardo’s Bakery followed by  the scramble type tournament, a golf clinic with Club Pro and various golf skills contests. After the tournament, attendees enjoyed a delicious steak and chicken dinner reception at the clubhouse, which included locally sourced produce from Foppema’s Farm in Northbridge. A silent auction and raffle rounded out the evening.

CABI was founded in 2013 by the school’s directors, Jeffrey Robinson, Ph. D. and Brian Doyle, Ed.D., BCBA-D, who have more than 60 years of cumulative experience in special education and Applied Behavior Analysis.

“Thank you to our golfers, sponsors, families and friends for supporting our mission and making our inaugural event such a tremendous success,” said Dr.Robinson. “The funds raised will ensure that CABI is able to continue to deliver on our commitment to providing the best-practice behavioral and educational programming to children and young adults with autism. CABI believes that every child, given the right tools, resources, and environment, has the potential to achieve the possible and live a more independent and fulfilling life.”

CABI would like to thank their generous sponsors: Behavioral Concepts (BCI); HR Knowledge; Prime Building Inc.; Leonard, Mulherin & Greene, P.C.; Webster First Federal Credit Union; Harvard Pilgrim Health Care; Body Armor; Gerardo’s Bakery; 1st-String Embroidery & Graphics; Kelleher and Sadowsky; Family Perspectives Inc.; 19th Golf and Grill; My FM Radio; among others.

Save the date for CABI’s Second Annual Achieve Golf Tournament which will be held at Blackstone National Golf Course on Monday, August 19, 2019.

BCI Announces “Halloween Full of Pieces” Autism Friendly Event October 28th

October 16, 2018 //  by admin

Behavioral Concepts (BCI), a company of behavioral clinicians specializing in the care of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) throughout Central Massachusetts, is proud to sponsor the second annual “Halloween Full of Pieces” autism-friendly Halloween party which will be held on October 28, 2018 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Knights of Columbus, 91 Manville Street, Leicester, MA. This event is open to the public.

Hosted by the Knights of Columbus Council 4528, this special event is a sensory-friendly and safe trick or treating experience for children with ASD. BCI’s Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapists will assist in the event alongside the Knights and staff volunteers.

The event will feature a haunted house, sensory-friendly activities, face painting and more.

There is no cost to attend “Halloween Full of Pieces” party and children may wear costumes if they wish.

“From all the scary decorations, lights and sounds to sensory issues with costume clothing fabric and accessories, Halloween can be an especially tricky time for children and families with autism,” explained Sally Burke, a Licensed Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) at BCI.

Below, Burke offers five tips to help families with autism celebrate Halloween:

1. If you think your child would like to (and can tolerate) wearing a costume, have him/her practice wearing it for short intervals while playing in the days/weeks prior to Halloween.

2. A visual social story or a book that discusses the topic of Halloween and what to expect prior to the event can be extremely helpful. Review it often in the days leading up to Halloween.

3. Practice trick or treating with a family member or neighbor you know well. Whether you and your child gets to one house or quite a few on Halloween, be sure to praise them for a job well done.

4. Plan your trick or treating route. Consider skipping homes with lots of lights, sounds and scary decorations.

5. Remember, staying home and passing out treats may be just as much fun for your child as going out, so don’t rule out the option.
