Connecticut dairy now features popular Between Rounds bagels in weekly deliveries.

Between Rounds Bakery Sandwich Café, the unique bakery café and bagel shop with locations throughout Connecticut, has recently partnered with The Modern Milkman based in Ellington, CT, to provide their signature bagels to the innovative dairy’s fast-growing customer base.

Between Rounds fresh baked signature bagels and cream cheese may now be added to Modern Milkman customers’ weekly delivery, thanks to a new partnership between the two companies.

Between Rounds has been supplying The Modern Milkman with their signature bagels and cream cheese for delivery to their 3,000+ customers each week. With six trucks on the road, The Modern Milkman delivers to 25 towns in the Ellington and Greater Hartford areas.

“We have a pretty high standard and look to partner with other local businesses with the same high standards,” said Seth Bahler, a fifth-generation farmer and the owner of The Modern Milkman and Oakridge Dairy. “Not only does Between Rounds offer a delicious product, they meet our high standards, they’re local and they have the capacity to supply our local customers need.”

Between Rounds is the brainchild of brothers Jerry and Joseph Puiia, whose hallmark is manufacturing and selling their own bagels, which sets them apart from other cafés. The popularity of their bagels inspired the Puiias to strike up wholesale partnerships with independent grocers and others such as The Modern Milkman, who then provide Between Rounds fresh baked bagels to their customers. Currently, Between Rounds has more than 30 wholesale partnerships in Connecticut and Massachusetts.

In December, Between Rounds invested in a new double rack oven and proof box, which enabled them to significantly increase their bagel production. The company ramped up manufacturing on their wholesale side as they continue to supply signature bagels to an increasing number of independent grocers and new partners such as Modern Milkman.

How Family and Friends Can Support a Person with Hoarding Disorder – Virtual Workshop on March 23rd

The Greater Brockton Area Hoarding Task Force (GBAH) in conjunction with Old Colony Elder Services (OCES) and MassHousing are sponsoring a FREE virtual workshop entitled “How Family and Friends Can Support a Loved One with Hoarding Disorder” presented by Becca Belofsky, co-founder of Mutual Support Consulting LLC.

The workshop is specifically for family members and friends of loved ones with hoarding disorder and will be held via Zoom on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, 11 a.m. to 12:10 p.m.

What is Hoarding?

Hoarding is when individuals continue to accumulate items, such as clothing, newspapers and food, and then have persistent difficulty discarding possessions. Individuals with hoarding behaviors often face health issues related to falls, as well as run the risk of losing their homes.

“This virtual workshop demonstrates how family and friends can support a loved one struggling with compulsive acquiring, saving and hoarding,” explained Terri Kourtz, OCES’ Protective Services Director and president of GBAH. “Essentially, a hoarding disorder not only disrupts an individual’s daily life, it can significantly affect their relationships with loved ones. This workshop will help attendees to better understand and support the person they care about using practical skills and compassion.”

Local Art on Display at Between Rounds in Manchester and South Windsor

Between Rounds Bakery Sandwich Café, a unique bakery café and bagel shop with four locations in Connecticut, announces local artwork is on display in their Manchester and South Windsor locations.

Between Rounds is displaying original paintings by artist Christopher Brown at two of their locations – the Plaza at Buckland Hills in Manchester and at Route 5 in South Windsor. According to Mr. Brown, his art “encompasses bold colors and fantastical ideas to capture the viewer at a single glance”. Mr. Brown does not make prints of his work, so each piece remains unique. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts.

Featured work from local photographer Pam Nesbitt is on display at Between Rounds in Manchester. Ms. Nesbitt focuses primarily on flowers and nature photography. She holds an Associate’s degree in Fine Arts.

Dedicated Chief Programs Officer Retires from Old Colony Elder Services

Old Colony Elder Services (OCES), the non-profit agency proudly serving older adults and individuals with disabilities throughout greater Plymouth County and surrounding towns, has announced that Susan Willis, Chief Programs Officer of the agency, is retiring after more than 22 years.

Willis, a Kingston, MA resident, has been instrumental in the success of OCES. Her passion, dedication and support of programs including Home Care, Protective Services and Adult Family Care, to name a few, have made a positive impact on many individuals and families as well as OCES staff. Susan was involved on many committees both internally and externally such as Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital—Plymouth’s Community Benefits Advisory Committee, Tenancy Preservation Committee, and OCES Social Work Committee. She always advocated for older adults and individuals with disabilities to have access to healthcare, in-home and community based services, as well as basic needs such as heat, medications and food.
