SelecTech, Inc. Appoints Christopher I. Hughes as Inside Sales Manager

August 5, 2013 //  by admin

Christopher Hughes
Christopher Hughes

SelecTech, Inc. a leader in the manufacture of innovative commercial and industrial flooring products from recycled materials, has recently appointed Christopher I. Hughes as Inside Sales Manager.

A veteran of the static control flooring industry, Mr. Hughes has more than two decades of experience working for ESD static control product manufacturers including United Technical Products (UTP) and Desco Industries. He also has eight years of experience working for ESD static control flooring distributors, among them, Julie Industries.

In his new role as Inside Sales Manager, Mr. Hughes will manage inside sales for SelecTech’s StaticStop ESD lines and will spearhead SelecTech’s new product launch of direct glue down ESD tiles known as FreeStyle CVT and EpoxyStyle ESD. Mr. Hughes will also be responsible for managing inventory, developing pricing strategies, and essentially expanding the StaticStop ESD brand “flooring footprint” nationally.

Mr. Hughes attended Boston University and is a native of Sharon, MA. He resides in Norfolk, MA with his wife and two children.

“We’ve brought Chris on board to support and grow our StaticStop ESD business. Chris is well known in the static control flooring industry and is extremely knowledgeable. He is a valuable addition to our team,” noted Thomas Ricciardelli, the company’s president.

“Conductive, Connected and Grounded”™

StaticStop ESD flooring solutions are versatile enough for a variety of static control environments from electronic manufacturing environments, server rooms, data centers, Federal and State government operation centers, PBX, HUB and call centers to retailers, commercial buildings, health care facilities, food service providers, schools and more. Companies that utilize SelecTech’s static control flooring include GlaxoSmithKline, T-Mobile, Boeing, USPS, Dell, Crestron Electronics, Volvo and the Federal Aviation Administration.

In a recent scientific test study conducted by a renowned, independent static control consulting firm, SelecTech’s commercial and industrial static control flooring systems passed resistance flooring/footwear tests with flying colors. StaticStop SelecTile ESD and FreeStyle ESD flooring systems exceeded requirements for grounding personnel and ensuring minimal voltage during walking on static control flooring, particularly in environments of extreme sensitivity. With a maximum walking voltage level result of seven volts, StaticStop SelecTile ESD and FreeStyle ESD are well under the 100 volts desired by companies handling ESD sensitive devices.

In addition to outreach efforts in the local homeless community, VoiceNation gives outreach support to children living in local foster care facilities; recruitment campaigns with Goodwill of North Georgia Oakwood Career Center geared towards helping those greatly affected by hard economic times; and the global clean water initiatives of Voice4Nations.

Over the years, VoiceNation has taken a number of steps to demonstrate their dedication to environmental protection including: incorporating a paperless billing system; launching ambitious recycling programs; switching to energy efficient bulbs; installing motion sensor lighting; purchasing green office supplies and donating computers to homeless shelters to ensure they don’t end up in landfills.

August 2, 2013 //  by admin

Nearly 2,000 “froyo” lovers lined Highland Avenue for the grand opening of Orange Leaf in Needham on July 31. Located right across the street from Needham High School at 1185 Highland Avenue, the line at the new Orange Leaf, not so coincidentally, was about the length of Needham High’s football field for a good part of the evening.

NEEDHAM, MA…

Nearly 2,000 “froyo” lovers literally lined the streets to attend the grand opening of the newest Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt located at 1185 Highland Avenue across from Needham High School in Needham, Mass.

Those who attended the grand opening, which took place from 6pm to 11pm on July 31, received a FREE Froyo and all the toppings they could pile on.

Said one attendee while waiting in a line that extended to nearly the length of a football field all night, “I’ve never seen anything like this in Needham in my 50 years of living here.”

In addition to the froyo giveaway, the grand opening featured dozens of raffles of everything from t-shirts and travel cups to an iPad Mini. Balloon artists and other children’s entertainment also kept the crowds entertained while people enjoyed their froyo.

“You could not ask for a better grand opening. We are absolutely thrilled to have given away over 15,000 ounces of free froyo and tempting toppings to the Needham area community!” said, Gerry Pelissier, co-owner of the Orange Leaf Needham location. “We chose this location due its proximity to the Needham High School – across the street!  We believe that Orange Leaf can make a difference in providing a “healthier dessert” to kids and adults alike with a low or no-fat, great tasting treat.

Orange Leaf makes 16 flavors of froyo fresh each day from a portfolio of 70. Since the Needham location’s initial opening at the end of June, the most popular flavors have Brownie Batter, Oreo, Orange and Vanilla Swirl.  Orange Leaf’s seasonal offering is Root Beer Float froyo.

Pelissier added, “We are all about choices and we offer more than 50 different toppings from fresh fruit (including chocolate dipped strawberries) to freshly baked waffle cups, hot fudge and home-made whipped cream.”

The Needham location marks the second Orange Leaf store opened by Pelissier and his partners. The first is in Canton, Massachusetts at Cobbs Corner. Each Orange Leaf employs 25 local people.

The Needham store encompasses a roomy 2,500 square feet and features a variety of seating including a community table for larger families and groups, cozy orange leather couches, high top tables and more.  The store also features complimentary WI-FI and USB charger ports for Phones and Laptops.

Sprout factory at Dr. Chang’s Farm of Whately, MA celebrates 30th anniversary

Chang's Farm

August 1, 2013 //  by admin

Chang's Farm
Dr. Tso-Cheng Chang, owner of Dr. Chang’s Farm in Whately, Mass., home one of the largest bean sprout factories in the U.S. Here, Dr. Chang stands with one of Dr. Chang’s Farm’s other main crops, schizandra berries. Recently featured on the Dr. Oz Show, schizandra berry supports healthy energy, vitality, cell function, calming relaxation, mental clarity, stamina, immunity, detoxification, reproduction and digestion.

WHATELY, MA…

Long before “shop local, buy local” became something Americans came to value, Dr. Tso-Cheng Chang grew his own Chinese vegetables to serve at his award-winning restaurant, Amherst Chinese Food, on Main Street in downtown Amherst. So when in 1983 he converted his farm in Whately, Mass. into a small factory designed to mass produce bean sprouts, it barely caused a ripple on the local business scene. That same factory on Dr. Chang’s Farm recently celebrated its 30th anniversary with the distinction of being one of the largest soybean and mungbean sprout facilities in the U.S.

“You would say from the success of his restaurant and the sprout farm that Dr. Chang epitomizes the American dream but his story goes beyond that.” said Steven V. Dubin, spokesperson for Chang’s Naturals, which grows and wholesales their certified schizandra berries. “In fact, it’s quite fitting that his farm is in a region known as Pioneer Valley because Dr. Chang has pioneered a number of things, most notably ‘no herbicides or pesticides’ farming.”

Chang’s journey to pioneer began in a small town in Shandong Province, China, where he was born in the late 1920s. Chang earned an undergraduate degree in agronomy from Taiwan University in 1953. He later emigrated to the U.S. and earned an M.S. in Crop Science from Michigan State University in 1966.

Dr Chang’s first job in the U.S. was working for Dow Chemical. Dow put him in charge of their Taiwan operations. Here, however, he soon came to recognize the many unforeseen dangers herbicides and pesticides presented both to farmers and consumers who raised and bought these heavily sprayed crops.

Dr. Chang alerted Dow Management to the fact their policies could not work in Taiwan where, at the time, all farms were small and in constant use. This meant there was no chance for the land to lay fallow and perhaps recover from heavy chemical use. Dow, however, did not listen to his plea, and he resigned rather than carry out their policies in Taiwan.

Chang moved to Massachusetts and earned a Doctorate in Plant and Soil Science from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1973. Shortly after that, he opened Amherst Chinese Food and subsequently Dr. Chang’s Farm in Whatley, Massachusetts in 1976.

“Beyond eliminating the need for pesticides while growing nutrient-dense food, Dr. Chang was an early advocate of soil remineralization and has utilized rock dust on the farm since 1995,” said Dubin. “At present, due to these early efforts, his farm’s soil has become so rich that he has not needed to add more rock dust for many years.”

The fruits (and vegetables) of this labor have been plentiful. From its humble beginnings, Dr. Chang’s Farm has grown considerably, but still remains wholly owned and managed by the Chang family. After beginning operations in 1983, the bean sprout factory has expanded into what is now a state-of-the-art facility producing hundreds of thousands of tons of mungbean and soybean sprouts each week.

Yet it’s quite possible Dr. Chang’s Farm’s most significant horticultural contribution is yet to come. Specifically, that refers to the Schizandra berries grown on Dr. Chang’s Farm.

The schizandra berry is referred as an adaptogen. This term has been applied to certain botanicals capable of bringing balance to the body. In short, it helps ‘adapt’ to what the body needs at the moment. One person may need energy, another stress relief. An adaptogen helps both by assisting the body to reach its optimum level of health and well-being – a state referred to by science as ‘homeostasis’.

Whether it’s in its whole berry form, beverage or powder, schizandra berry supports healthy energy, vitality, cell function, calming relaxation, mental clarity, stamina, immunity, detoxification, reproduction and digestion.

“The schizandra berry has been featured on Dr. Oz and other programs for its wide variety of health benefits,” said Dubin. “As Americans look to the East and Chinese remedies and supplements, the schizandra berry could be the ginseng of this decade.”

Dr Chang Naturals grows and wholesales their certified organic schizandra berry powder worldwide. Consumers and retailers can learn more about this powder, and how to buy it, by contacting the distributor Lucidera at www.organicschizandra.com.  You can also order of a glass of fresh schizandra berry juice at Dr. Chang’s restaurant. Amherst Chinese has offered this for over 18 years and remains the only place in America, and perhaps the world, where you can find this healthy beverage on the menu.

“Nowadays, you’re more likely to hear about businesses going under rather than celebrating a 30th anniversary,” said Dubin. “But with the management team we have in place and consumers’ interest in organic foods like our sprouts and the schizandra berry, Dr. Chang’s Farm is positioned to celebrate many more anniversaries.”

For more information about Chang’s Naturals, you can visit http://www.organicchiberry.com.
