Rodman CPAs Talk Tax Incentives, Renewable Energy Investment At Lexington Wealth Management

July 29, 2016 //  by admin

Rodman-Logo-DigitalRodman CPAs, a full service tax and accounting firm with a Renewable Energy and Cleantech specialty practice known as the “Green Team”, recently outlined renewable energy federal and state incentives and investment opportunities during a presentation to Investment Advisors at Lexington Wealth Management, a boutique independent wealth management firm in Lexington, MA.

Thomas Astore, CPA, JD, partner and Mark Vitello, CPA, Supervisor at Rodman CPAs, led the Lunch & Learn presentation on green energy investment and tax incentives. During the discussion, the team provided an overview of renewable energy sources (Solar, wind, anaerobic digestion, biomass/waste to energy, hydro and geothermal) and outlined the Investment Tax Credit (ITC), Residential Renewable Energy Tax Credit and Production Tax Credit (PTC) federal incentives. They also discussed Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs) state incentives, and various ways to invest in renewable energy projects, which included partnership flip, sale leaseback and other options.

This presentation was part of a collaborative effort between the two firms. Rodman CPA’s presentation was geared toward highlighting one of the firm’s niche markets and demonstrating both the team’s expertise and passion in this area. Rodman CPAs continues to look for opportunities to meet with strategic partners in order to provide excellent service to clients.

“Lexington is fortunate to have such a collaborative relationship with Rodman and benefit from their expertise. As more of our clients focus on green initiatives, it is important to understand the variety of tax incentives and opportunities available in the renewable energy space,” said James Hastings, CFP®, Advisor at Lexington Wealth Management.

Green Energy Experts

Rodman CPAs’ Green Team is comprised of the firm’s president Steve Rodman, CPA, MST, and partners Kathy Parker, CPA, MST and Tom Astore, CPA JD, along with Elysha Sturm, Senior Accountant and Mark Vitello, CPA, Supervisor. The firm is a charter member of the Mass Solar Coalition, as well as a member of Northeast Sustainable Energy Association (NESEA), New England Clean Energy Council (NECEC) and Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA).

Waltham Based CPA Firm Rebrands and Announces New Name and Logo

June 28, 2016 //  by admin

RodmanCPAs Partners_MG_1692 copyThe Waltham, MA-based full service tax and accounting firm known as Rodman & Rodman P.C. has rebranded and officially announced their new company name, Rodman CPAs, and unveiled a new firm graphic identity.

The firm has rebranded to better reflect the firm’s growth, expertise, and comprehensive accounting and tax solutions for clients in a range of industries, including alternative energy.

Steve Rodman CPA, MST, the firm’s president, and partners Kathy Parker CPA, MST and Tom Astore CPA, JD, engaged the marketing and branding expertise of Hailer Marketing Associates and Paris Design to assist with refreshing the firm’s brand.

Initially, the Rodman team was simply looking to update their website after relocating from Newton (where they had been located for two decades) to University Office Park in Waltham. The new 8,500 square foot Waltham office nearly doubled the firm’s space and supported Rodman CPAs’ growth, while enabling them to expand their offerings and provide on-site educational and networking capabilities.

The decision to rebrand came about from a perceived need to reposition Rodman CPAs in the general marketplace – which encompassed the firm’s name change, a better definition of their scope of services, updated messaging, and the development of brand pillars and a positioning statement. All which is reflected through the new name, graphic identity, taglines, collateral, and (soon to be launched) new website.

“One of the first things that we discovered in this process was that no one referred to the firm as Rodman & Rodman P.C. The name by which they were already known and referred to in the industry was Rodman CPAs,” explained Elizabeth Hailer, who managed the rebrand project. “The relocation provided a great opportunity for the firm to transform the new space with the new brand.”

In phase one of the rebrand process, Hailer Marketing reviewed Rodman CPAs’ key priorities and conducted independent research on their market and brand, which included surveying several  constituents as well as key stakeholders. A competitive analysis and internal business strategy and assessment were completed. Phase two of the process involved developing the brand pillars, messaging and positioning statement based on the data, and collaborating with Paris Design in the build out of the firm’s identity and visuals to communicate the brand.

Rodman-Logo-DigitalThe firm’s newly designed “Rodman CPAs” graphic identity represents change and growth, while highlighting their focus on alternative energy. The “O” in Rodman uses a simple, yet refined visual that is not only memorable, but reflects how the firm helps clients perform and succeed during each stage of their business lifecycle, as does the logo tagline “Collaborative Approach. Practical Advice.”

“The process of rebranding, which involved an in-depth analysis of our goals, messaging and company culture, has taken us full circle and set us on our future path. Our enhanced brand reflects our commitment to being a strategic partner to our clients through a collaborative approach and practical advice,” explained Steve Rodman.

Waltham Accountant Places in Top Quarter of World’s Toughest Mudder Competition

January 14, 2016 //  by admin

Justin Horr and Nicole Perry
Justin Horr and Nicole Perry

With the same grit and determination required during tax season, Justin Horr, Staff Accountant at Rodman & Rodman CPAs, a full service tax and accounting firm catering to small and medium-sized companies throughout the greater Boston area, completed the World’s Toughest Mudder® 24-hour race held November 14-15th at Lake Las Vegas, Nevada.

Placing 219 overall among approximately 1280 participants, Horr did well in the Male Division 20-24 year-old, placing 9th and completing 10 laps, 50 miles total in 24 hours, 28 minutes and 4 seconds. He was among 28 male and female contestants from Massachusetts.

Horr, a resident of South Easton, MA and native of Granby, CT, competed alongside his aunt, Nicole Perry of Simsbury, CT, who finished 4th in her age group.

World’s Toughest Mudder is an extreme 24-hour obstacle course challenge where athletes are tested to their physical and mental limits competing for Worlds Toughest Mudder title and prizes, while also fundraising for a charity or cause.

“This race, at this magnitude, required a lot of preparation. You have to be ready to tackle different challenges. The course changes in the middle of the night, and you have to adapt,” explained Horr. “It’s almost as stressful as tax season – which is a marathon, not a sprint – where you have to be mentally prepared.”

Horr will be participating in Tough Mudder New England and Spartan Sprint Race in 2016.

Rodman & Rodman CPAs Take Part in American Biogas Council’s DC Fly-In

September 9, 2015 //  by admin

Kathy Parker, CPA, MST, Partner and Elysha Sturm, Staff Accountant at Rodman & Rodman CPAs represented Massachusetts at American Biogas Council’s (ABC) DC Fly-In held July 20-23, 2015 in Washington D.C. Rodman CPAs is a full service tax and accounting firm specializing in green energy and clean technology.

Rodman CPAs are members of ABC, which promotes the Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas Industry. The Rodman team was among 24 ABC members from 11 states to attend meetings in the House and Senate on Capitol Hill, and a special Biogas Stakeholder Forum hosted by the USDA and EPA.

According to Parker, “One of the ABC’s primary goals is to ensure that renewable energy receives the same favorable treatment under federal and state laws as does fossil energy, and that all forms of renewable energy are treated equally on a comparative basis.”

Parker and Sturm had an opportunity to provide feedback on the next steps that USDA, EPA and DOE plan to take to support biogas project deployment. The Rodman team met with key staff of the offices of Senator Jerry Moran, Senator Maria Cantwell, Senator Charles Schumer, Senator Ed Markey, Congressman Mike Thompson and Jim Lyons, Tax Counsel -Senate Finance Committee Majority Staff and urged their support for Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), which provides a demand and a marketplace for biogas.

The Rodman team also urged support of the extension of renewable electricity tax credits, as the Production Tax Credit (PTC) and the Investment Tax Credit (ITC) are essential in helping to drive investment in renewable energy. Additionally, they urged support of continued discretionary funding for Farm Bill programs (including include REAP, the Renewable Energy for America Program) and to maintain the mandatory funding levels passed in the Farm Bill.

“There was a Bill on the table that was presented to congress by the finance committee which would extend ITC/PTC for two years.  It was exciting to hear about it first hand, as typically extenders do not happen until the end of the year,” noted Parker. “Unfortunately, ITC/PTC was not extended at this time.”

Parker continued, “The purpose of the DC Fly-In was to continue the ongoing awareness of the need for anaerobic digester and the importance they bring to the renewable sector. It is imperative for these projects to continue to receive tax credits. Our goal at the DC Fly-In was to work with congress on tax extenders and other funding opportunities for the projects.”

About the ABC

The ABC’s mission is to create jobs, environmental sustainability, and energy independence by growing the U.S. biogas industry. The ABC represents over 200 organizations across the renewable energy, agriculture, waste and wastewater management, and transportation industries, including facility owners/operators, manufactures of tanks, engines, and other equipment, engineering organizations and institutions, utilities, financiers and lenders, and local and regional governments.

Summer campers are enjoying the great outdoors at Camp Clark in Plymouth, MA thanks in part to the efforts of Rodman & Rodman P.C., a full service tax and accounting firm based in Newton, MA.

Rodman & Rodman has been a long-time supporter of Camp Clark, an Old Colony YMCA sponsored recreation camp for children. Prior to the start of the 2015 camp season, Rodman & Rodman’s team of 18 spent a full day landscaping Camp Clark to ready it for more than 400 youth campers who attend each week. The team cleaned up the beach and spread 80 yards of wood chips, 10 yards of mulch and plenty of sand.

“The Rodman team volunteered more than 100 hours preparing Camp Clark for our busy summer camp, which runs from 7 am to 6 pm daily. They took on projects that would have taken us longer than two weeks to complete,” said Derek Paiva, Executive Director of Old Colony YMCA. “The Y was founded on volunteerism and the Rodman team sets a great example. We truly appreciate their hard work which has contributed to the overall success of our camp.”

“Camp Clark has a strong tradition of helping to build brighter futures by encouraging campers to discover their potential,” said Steve Rodman, president of Rodman & Rodman, P.C. “We are delighted to continually support this very special organization.”
