PLYMOUTH, MA…

Since 2007, Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac has recognized dozens of students at Plymouth North and South high schools for going above and beyond in both the classroom and in the community. Tracy kicked off 2013-14 Driven Student Awards program by honoring the largest group of students in the history of this program: the Best Buddies of Plymouth North High School.

Best Buddies® is an international nonprofit organization that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. More than 50 students participate in the Best Buddies program at Plymouth North High School.

“We started the Best Buddies program back in 2008 as a way to get our special needs students involved and to feel more a part of the community here at North,” said Christine Belmonte, a special needs teacher at North. “Study after study has revealed that special needs students that have a more active social life are happier, healthier and live longer. The Best Buddies program makes that happen.”

Adds North’s Best Buddies program Co-Founder Barbara Gravell-Perry, “Whether you are one of the buddies, a peer or an associate, I think all the students gain something from being in this program.”

The program works with one of the buddies being paired off with a peer. The peer then has the responsibility to have at least two contacts per week with their buddy. That can be a phone call or an in-person visit. Associates are those who don’t necessarily have the time to make a weekly commitment but participate when they can.

“This is not a program for those who are not committed,” said Alex Wrack, student president of the Plymouth North Best Buddies program.

As part of the recognition of being selected Driven Students of the Month, the students in the Best Buddies program received a pizza party, courtesy of Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac. More than 50 students and faculty attended.

“This was by far the largest pizza party we’ve had since we started doing the Driven Student program. For what these young people are doing, they are most deserving of this recognition,” said Jeff Tracy, president of Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac. “

Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac’s Driven Student program recognizes Plymouth high school students for their performance and achievements in and out of the classroom. Awarded on a monthly basis, recipients are selected by faculty and advisors at the student’s given school.

Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac donates $500 to Boys & Girls Club as part of “Win a Free Car Night” at Plymouth Pilgrims

June 24, 2013 //  by admin

The donation was the consolation prize as part of the Win a Free Car night. Also pictured are Plymouth Pilgrim’s Owner Dave Dittmann (left) and Pilgrims GM Chris Patsos.

PLYMOUTH, MA…

Jeff Tracy, president of Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac, decided somebody was going to be a winner at the “Win a Free Car” night at the Plymouth Pilgrims last week. So when the fan selected to try and win a 2013 Silverado came up short in his effort to hit a ball off a tee out of the park, Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac donated $500 to the Plymouth Boys & Girls Club.

“It would have been great to give away a brand new truck but for somebody who’s not an active baseball player hitting a ball off a tee is hard enough without having to drive it more than 300 feet to get it out of the park,” said Tracy. “We decided somebody was going to walk out of the park with something and I can’t think of a more worthy cause than the Boys & Girls Club.”

The Plymouth Pilgrims’ Owner Dave Dittman and General Manager Chris Patsos accepted the check on behalf of The Boys & Girls Club. John Fasolino of Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac presented the check on behalf of the dealership. Fasolino, who drove the Silverado onto the field for pre-game ceremonies, also had the honor of throwing out the first pitch along with Massasoit Community College’s Charlie Wall.

“The Pilgrims have brought a lot of energy to Plymouth and we’re delighted to be a sponsor and help bring this level of high-caliber of baseball to town. And, if that relationship can help out another local non-profit like the Boys & Girls Club along the way, that’s even better,” added Tracy.

Northern Lights was recognized as the Tracy Driven Students of the Month. The group is led by Dave Grossman, music teacher at Plymouth North.

PLYMOUTH, MA…

For several years, Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac conducted a “Driven Student” program recognizing the achievements of local high school students inside and outside the classroom. The Plymouth dealership recently jumpstarted the program, honoring the 20 Plymouth North High School (PNHS) students that make up the a cappella singing group Northern Lights.

Directed by David Grossman, a music teacher in his first full year at Plymouth North, Northern Lights formed at the beginning of the school year and has already performed at the PNHS Pep Rally, Festival of Trees, and PNHS Winter Concert.

“For a group that just started together in September, the kids have come a long way in a very short amount of time,” said Grossman. “That comes from a combination of talent, hard work and being open to teaching. The students in Northern Lights are all that and more and we’re honored that Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac chose us as the opening act for the Driven Student program this year.”

For being chosen as the Driven Students of the Month, the group received a pizza party courtesy of Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac. In addition to pizza and refreshments, each student also received a Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac drink koozie.

Yet it was the attendees who received the real treat as the group performed for Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac Sales Manager Joe Wilkerson.

“After that performance, I feel like we should have brought some ice cream, too. They were that good,” said Wilkerson. “Seriously, we’re delighted to bring back the Driven Student program and I can’t think of a better way to kick off than program than this group of students.”

Members of Northern Lights include: Shaelyn Helminiak, Rebecca Levy, Sarah Serrilla, Jaclyn Mennonna, Mackenzie Levangie, Merin English, Maria D’ambrosio, Veronica Cavanaugh, Jordan Brocklesby, Julia McBride, Conor Hurley, Kyle Blagg, Christian Hatfield, Eli Hovey, Shawn Westcott, Danny Osborne and Kevin Johnson.

A service call for Plymouth South automotive students…Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac hosts hybrid training for vocational school students.

Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac Technician

PLYMOUTH, MA…

For three years running, Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac has honored local students through its Driven Student program. This program recognizes students going above and beyond,  inside and outside the classroom. For the month of April, Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac chose to honor automotive students in Plymouth South High School’s Technical Studies program.

While the typical Driven Student celebration involves a pizza party at the school, Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac provided these budding mechanics with something a bit more valuable: a training session on hybrid technology at the dealership.

“Even though hybrid cars have been around a while, our students really haven’t exposure to them through our programs because the vehicles typically have five-year warranties and the owners bring them into the dealership for service instead of our shop at the school,” said Randy Cabral, automotive instructor at Plymouth South. “Being invited down here to see that technology up close is a phenomenal experience for our students.”

Rick McGue, Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac service manager, led the training session. That included looking under the hood of two hybrids, one of those vehicles belonging to Bruins legend Bobby Orr. Tracy Service Technician Steve Rasch also provided instruction on the hybrid technology and answered questions in between servicing the vehicles.

“The service component of our business is critical to the success or failure of a dealership,” said Jeff Tracy, president of Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac. “By having the kids visit the dealership, we’re hopefully doing more than showing them a new technology but demonstrating the critical role they can play in our industry.”

Taking part in the training were: Michel Jacobson, Jake Waters, Cam Nwell, Billy Stevenson, Doug Duyette, Devin Ford, Jon Flaherty and Nick Luke, Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac’s Driven Student program recognizes Plymouth high school students for their performance and achievements in and out of the classroom. Awarded on a monthly basis, recipients are selected by faculty and advisors at the student’s given school.
