Between Rounds Announces their Newest Cream Cheese Creations. Flavor Suggestions Encouraged.

September 25, 2015 //  by admin

BR Logo from Andy smallBetween Rounds Bakery Sandwich Café, the unique bakery café and bagel shop with locations throughout Connecticut, has recently concocted two delicious new cream cheese flavors just in time for fall – Peach and Apple Caramel.

Between Rounds seasonal and innovative flavors are developed and produced in-house. They are available for a limited time only and will rotate depending on the month. The company’s traditional cream cheese flavors that are menu staples include plain, low-fat vegetable, scallion, strawberry and vanilla raisin walnut.

The brainchild of Staten Island brothers Jerry and Joe Puiia, Between Rounds cafés are located in Vernon, South Windsor, Manchester and Tolland. The Puiia hallmark is manufacturing and selling their own bagels, which set them apart from other cafés. Now, they are quickly becoming known for new, offbeat cream cheese flavors handcrafted right in the store.

“We offer the traditional flavors, but the trend is flavors that have a little twist to them. Robust or unusual flavors are the most popular,” explained Jerry Puiia, co-owner of Between Rounds.

According to Puiia, some flavors are more difficult to create than others. For example a single fruit-based flavor, such as Between Rounds strawberry cream cheese, doesn’t have the ingredient complexity of their new apple caramel flavor. Also, flavors that are savory tend to have a more complex ingredient panel. One other consideration during creation of a new flavor is the shelf life. No preservatives are added to Between Rounds cream cheese creations.

Between Rounds encourages the community to suggest new flavors. Anyone who recommends a cream cheese flavor that Between Rounds adopts, will receive a certificate for a dozen bagels a month for six months. “Cream Cheese Flavor” suggestions may be emailed to info@betweenroundsbagels.com with your name and flavor suggestion.

Between Rounds Establishes Grocery Partnership with ShopRite in Enfield

August 4, 2015 //  by admin

The Bakery team at ShopRite Enfield

Between Rounds Bakery Sandwich Café, the unique bakery café and bagel shop with locations throughout Connecticut, has recently partnered with ShopRite in Enfield to supply fresh baked bagels to their customers.

The ShopRite store, which is owned by Raymond Miller, his son Charles and daughter Marybeth Duffy as Miller Farm Family Markets, is located in Brookside Plaza Shopping Center, 40 Hazard Avenue in Enfield.

Between Rounds is the brainchild of Staten Island brothers Jerry and Joe Puiia, who established Between Rounds cafés in Vernon, South Windsor, Manchester and Tolland. The Puiia hallmark is manufacturing and selling their own bagels, which set them apart from other cafés. The popularity of their bagels inspired the Puiias to partner with independent grocers.  The bagels are delivered to grocers fully baked so no additional labor is required of the bakery department.

Raymond and Charles Miller, along with their store manager Bob Hendrickson and bakery manager Tim Moreau, met with the Puiia brothers and decided that Between Rounds product would be a perfect fit for their bakery. As a grocery partner, Miller Farm Family Markets ShopRite will offer Between Rounds signature bagels in their bakery department.

“This is a good example of one family business working with another to bring local products to the community. Between Rounds provides an exceptional product which we are delighted to make available to our customers,” said Raymond Miller.

In addition to ShopRite in Enfield, Between Rounds has established grocery partnerships with ShopRite stores in Manchester, East Harford, Southington and Wallingford; Highland Park Markets in Suffield, Farmington, Manchester, Coventry and Glastonbury; West Side Marketplace in Rocky Hill; Geissler’s Supermarkets in Agawam, Bloomfield, East Windsor, Granby, Somers and South Windsor; Lyman Orchards Apple Barrel Market in Middlefield and Gardiner’s Market in South Glastonbury.

Independent grocer owners or store managers interested in carrying Between Rounds bagels may contact Jerry or Joe Puiia at (860) 291-0323.

Incubator Plan and Fast Casual franchise Between Rounds Café offer Fresh Start

June 17, 2015 //  by admin

location imageFast casual dining is the fastest growing segment in the restaurant industry. Looking to get in on the ground floor? Between Rounds Bakery Sandwich Café, a unique fast casual bakery café and bagel shop with locations throughout Connecticut, has rolled out an “Incubator Plan”, a low-entry Kiosk franchise option with a reduced franchise fee.

How it Works

With Between Rounds’ Incubator Plan, the franchise fee for a Between Rounds Kiosk store has been reduced from $20K to $5K. The franchise fee covers hard costs such as legal work, store design and menu board design.

Between Rounds’ Kiosk business model is unique in that it enables convenience and gas station store owners/operators (including third party owners who pay rent) to increase profits from their existing locations by offering Between Rounds fresh baked bagels and baked goods as well as breakfast and lunch sandwiches, wraps, salads, soups and specialty coffees. Ultimately, store traffic increases and leads to additional sales from products that are already sold. Patrons will enjoy Between Rounds’ neighborhood feel, their modern, comfortable interior and delicious food. Plus all locations offer free Wi-Fi for customers.

The overall investment for a Between Rounds Kiosk is approximately $120K. Financing for Kiosk operations is available through third parties.

Between Rounds franchised their first Kiosk store model in Tolland in 2013. That successful franchise, owned and operated by Sami Kahn, is located at 206 Merrow Road, at the Citgo Express Gas Station.  According to Kahn, “I had looked into a number of coffee and fast food opportunities and was very impressed with Between Rounds from the start.  The products are very high quality and very fresh because they are made every day.  That is my main motivation – to provide the best product possible to customers.”

January 11, 2015 //  by admin

1Between Rounds Bakery Sandwich Café, the unique bakery café and bagel shop with locations throughout Connecticut recently announced new financing options for the Between Rounds’ Kiosk franchise program.

Between Rounds’ co-founder and franchisor, Jerry Puiia, has secured three financing companies, Benetrends, FranchiseLeasing.com and The Stratford Group, to help new franchisees with financing of Kiosk operations.

According to Puiia, “Our reputation for offering fresh, high quality food at affordable prices is key, and when combined with a lower entry point for the potential franchisee and special financing options, it’s a win.”

Between Rounds franchised their first Kiosk store model in Tolland in 2013. That successful franchise, owned and operated by Sami Kahn, is located at 206 Merrow Road, at the Citgo Express Gas Station.

Between Rounds’ Kiosk business model is unique in that it enables convenience and gas station store owners to increase profits from their existing locations through repeat customers who not only purchase gas but also Between Rounds specialty coffee, fresh made breakfast and lunch sandwiches, fresh baked bagels and assorted bakery items.  Ultimately, store traffic increases and leads to additional sales from products that are already sold.

The Between Rounds Kiosk store has low start-up costs and requires an overall investment of approximately $120K for a standard store with no drive-thru.

He continued, “The Between Rounds Kiosk franchise opportunity has low start-up costs compared to similar franchises, and utility and facility maintenance costs are only minimally increased.  Best of all, we make it easy to operate and train existing staff using our detailed training guides and checklists.  Not only does an owner enjoy additional profits from their existing location…all those profits from increased sales stay in the owner’s pocket.”
