DirectBuy Featured at Response Expo 2010

June 9, 2010 //  by admin

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA, AND MERRILLVILLE, INDIANA…

David Lee of DirectBuy

David Lee, director of marketing for DirectBuy Corporate in Merrillville, Indiana, recently spoke at the Response Expo 2010 at the Hilton San Diego Bay Front in San Diego, California.

During the three-day expo, Lee, along with Eric Franchi, senior vice president of business development for Undertone Networks, delivered a presentation on generating leads and closing sales. As part of this exclusive session, Lee and Franchi focused on how DirectBuy Club leverages online ad networks as well as  direct response television, print, and radio ads to generate leads and ultimately sales.

“It was a great opportunity to be able to speak at Response Expo 2010. As a featured case study, we were able to share some of our tested and proven strategies in regards to managing a diversified marketing matrix,” said Lee. “Additionally, we offered insights on the importance of monitoring and optimizing campaign results through a number of metrics including lead scoring.”

The keynote speaker for the Expo, held from May 11 through 13, was Sir Bob Geldoff, founder of BandAid Trust. A member of the Boomtown Rats, one of the early punk/new wave bands of the 1970s, Geldoff is best known for his humanitarian efforts in coordinating the LiveAid concerts in 1985 and 2005 and has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize on numerous occasions.

Presented by the Direct Response Marketing Alliance (DRMA) and Response magazine, Response Expo 2010 brings together key decision-makers and industry leaders from the corporate marketing arena and direct response spectrum. In addition to its roster of speakers, Response Expo 2010 featured a full track of educational sessions, a bustling expo hall floor of exhibitors, and numerous networking events.

“This year’s Expo was phenomenal. Being able to exchange ideas and network with many of the best and brightest minds in the direct response industry is invaluable,” said Lee. “I know that the information I received will help DirectBuy’s marketing efforts moving forward. Hopefully, the attendees of the DirectBuy case study will be able to apply some of the insights they received from us as well.”

Marilyn Holstein, owner of The North Fork Resort Map

PECONIC, NEW YORK; AND WAITSFIELD, VERMONT…

Resort Maps, creator of nearly 100 customized travel maps across the United States, England, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico, recently announced Marilyn Holstein as the owner of the new Resort Map to be published on the North Fork of Long Island. The map will include all key destinations between Riverhead and Orient Point.

Resort Maps are colorful, hand-drawn maps of towns and cities, distributed free to area visitors at travel information and rest areas as well as at advertiser locations. The Best of North Fork map will highlight local attractions and things to do, restaurants, vineyards, accommodations, retail shops, real estate and other services on the North Fork. Each advertiser on the map will be represented with a display ad surrounding the perimeter of the map, including a color-coded grid locator and their actual building hand-drawn, highlighted and labeled, making it easy to locate.

“I first learned about Resort Maps when I visited Newport several years ago. The map was like my Bible and I never went anywhere without it,” said Holstein. “As somebody who’s been a regular visitor to North Fork for more than 25 years, I’ve never seen any maps that come close to showcasing local attractions and businesses like Resort Maps. Tourists and residents alike are going to love how Resort Maps displays the many places and things there are to do and see from Riverhead to Orient Point.”

Prior to owning a Resort Maps franchise, Holstein had a career spanning two decades in magazine publishing, including stints and Condé Nast Publications and Advanstar Communications. Most recently, she was the managing editor of Newsweek Budget Travel, where she directed the editorial operations of Budget Travel magazine and the new launch, Girlfriend Getaways.

“I’m extremely excited about this opportunity. I’m a member of several wine clubs on the North Fork and recently joined the North Fork Chamber of Commerce and the feedback has all been extremely positive,” said Holstein.

Slated for an August 2010 distribution, The North Fork Resort Map will offer a treasure trove of things to do for people vacationing in the area or just out East for a day or two. Resort Maps free ‘souvenir style’ maps will be on display at local advertisers’ shops but also at many non-advertiser locations throughout the North Fork region.

The North Fork Resort Map will also be available on-line at www.resortmaps.com, along with interactive maps to all the areas that Resort Maps covers. These interactive maps allow the viewer to read a description of each business as they scroll over each building and to connect to the website of the business for further information.

For information on how to advertise on the initial Best of North Fork Resort Map, you can e-mail Marilyn Holstein at marilynh@resortmaps.com or call 631-655-2773.

A kitchen cabinet makeover for under $20.

June 3, 2010 //  by admin

CHICAGO, GURNEE, HOFFMAN ESTATES, NAPERVILLE, TINLEY PARK, IL …

When it comes to improvements to your home, replacing your kitchen cabinets is one project that offers the best return for investment dollars at resale. For many, the price of new cabinets may not be in the budget. Nevertheless, if you want to give your kitchen a bit of a new look and would prefer not to paint, bleaching your kitchen cabinets offers a cost-effective alternative.

“Bleaching your kitchen cabinets gives them a bit of an old world look,” said I.J. Sell, owner of DirectBuy of Tinley Park. “This aged, rustic design is often part of Tuscan kitchen decor and works well with wrought iron and ceramic accessories.”

With just a few supplies, you can transform run-of-the-mill cabinetry into a unique work of art. Most supplies for this project can be purchased at your local home improvement store. Then it’s just a matter of following some simple steps:

  • Cover any areas that you don’t want bleached (cabinets or otherwise). Newspaper should suffice.
  • While wearing gloves, pour a gallon of household bleach into a clean bucket, then dip a sponge into the bleach. Wring out the sponge so that it is damp, but not dripping. You can also use commercially prepared wood bleach for this project.
  • Apply the bleach to a small area of your cabinets that’s out of sight. This will be your test area. If you like the look, apply to the rest of your cabinets. Be careful not to saturate any area too much to avoid streaking.
  • Allow the bleach to dry completely, then lightly sand the cabinets with fine-grade sandpaper. Wipe off any dust and residue with a clean cloth.
  • Finally, apply a coat of clear polyurethane sealer with a paint roller or paintbrush and allow it to dry completely.

“Bleaching your cabinets can create an entirely new look for your kitchen in just a few short hours,” said Sell. “Just remember to take the proper precautions when working with bleach. Wear goggles and gloves to protect your eyes and skin and open a window or vent so the bleach smell doesn’t overwhelm you.”

Business coaching vs. business consulting: what’s the difference?

May 26, 2010 //  by admin

MANCHESTER, MARYLAND …

In the past several years, business coaching has gone beyond a luxury reserved for Corporate America’s executives but an invaluable tool for small business owners. Yet many small business owners are still unclear on the difference between a business coach and a business consultant.

“The difference is as simple as the old expression ‘give a man a fish, he eats for the day, teach him to fish and he feeds himself for life’,” said Karen Boyd, a master licensee for ActionCOACH, the top business coaching firm in the world.

Continued Boyd, “That’s not to say that business consultants do not perform a valuable service. Their expertise is used to complete tasks where the business owner is deficient or does not have the time to do themselves. A business coach teaches the business owner either how to do those tasks or how to find the resources to ensure that the task is completed both in the present and future.”

So what are the main differences between a business coach and business consultant? Here are a few of the chief differences:

  • Business coach transfers their knowledge to the business owner; the business consultant takes their knowledge when their mission is complete.
  • With business coach, plan is driven by client needs; with consultant, plan is driven by deliverable definition
  • Business coach works in 90-day planning cycles; business consultant’s schedule is based on deliverable milestones.
  • Business coach helps implement self-sustainable systems; business consultant sets up maintenance contracts for deliverables.
  • Business coach is a generalist; business consultant is a specialist.
  • Business coach paid by the program; business consultant paid by the hour.

“In its simplest form, a business coach is a teacher. The business consultant is a doer. Both have a place in the business world,” said Boyd. “When you own and operate your own business, you get used to calling all the shots, even if some of those shots might be off-target. A business coach not only will tell you why you’re off target, but shows you how to stay on target and that’s a service that has real value for the small business owner.”

About ActionCOACH

ActionCOACH is the world’s #1 business coaching firm and executive coaching firm. Operating in 26 countries, the franchise has more than 1,000 offices around the world. Love on the run…eLove offers portability options for singles

May 24, 2010 //  by admin

NORWELL, MA…

One of the primary reasons matchmaking services exist is that so many singles are busy with their careers—either from workload, travel or both—it’s difficult to meet that special someone.  eLove, one of the world’s largest online dating and brick-and-mortar dating services in the world recently added a portability feature to its matchmaking service for busy singles who find themselves away on business or for other reasons for long stretches of time.

eLove has matchmaking offices in 23 states. eLove matchamaking clients can utilize their membership at any of those offices. So if an eLove client from the Saddle Brook, New Jersey office goes away on business to Washington DC for an extended period, he or she can use the eLove matchmaking services out of the Falls Church, Virginia or Columbia, Maryland offices.

“Just because you’re away on business doesn’t mean your personal life has to come to a screeching halt,” said Paul A. Falzone, CEO of eLove. “The portability of our matchmaking memberships means you can utilize our services at any of our 45 offices, almost all of which are either in or reasonably close to metropolitan areas.”

In addition to the portability of its matchmaking services, eLove also offers online dating services, which connects singles across the United States. eLove’s online dating site gives users the capability of targeting singles by a geographic area—another handy tool if you know you’re going to be in a certain area for a prolonged period on business or vacation.

“You only get one life. And as important as careers are, all work and no play is not a healthy combination,” said Falzone. “By offering portability with our matchmaking services and the capabilities of our online dating site, singles do have a choice as to whether an extended business trip can be all business or have some fun mixed in.”
