DirectBuy of Buffalo offers “play” area for parents and kids.

October 15, 2008 //  by admin

CHEEKTOWAGA, NY…By purchasing directly from the manufacturer, DirectBuy members can not only save a lot of money, but enjoy the process as well. And while it can be a lot of fun to pick out your new kitchen, the new floors for your bathroom, it also requires your full attention. That’s a luxury members with children don’t always have. That’s why DirectBuy of Buffalo, the leading members-only showroom and home design centers that offer merchandise at manufacturer-direct prices, developed a “Kids Zone” area in their showroom so parents can focus on the task at hand and kids can enjoy the DirectBuy experience, too.

Though not a supervised area, the newly refurbished Kids Zone features a number of things to keep school-age children occupied and entertained. That includes a flat-screen television with video games to play from the comfort of “mini” recliners; as well as brand new tables and chairs. Kids Zone also features a wall painted with blackboard paint so kids can actually draw on the walls without fear of punishment. In addition, DirectBuy of Buffalo staff recently supplied the Kids Zone with an assortment of games and toys; Barbies and G.I. Joes.

“Let’s face it, most kids would rather go to the dentist than watch their parents shop for their next home improvement project. By the same token, it’s difficult for members with children to get the most out of the experience and do the research they need to do if they’re concerned about the kids getting fidgety. The Kids Zone gives children of DirectBuy members a place to play games, watch TV or even make new friends with other members’ kids while the grown-ups have their ‘fun’,” said Mark Klinger, owner of DirectBuy of Buffalo.

Creating fun things to do for children is nothing new for DirectBuy. DirectBuy franchises across North America regularly donate equipment to youth organizations like Boys and Girls Clubs, YMCAs and children’s hospitals. Most recently, DirectBuy of Buffalo donated a foosball table, a $600 retail value per table, to the William C. Baird Boys & Girls Clubhouse in Buffalo.

“Because we are entrenched in the community, we have an even greater incentive to make this a one-of-a-kind, unique shopping experience because many of the members are our friends, neighbors, even relatives,” said Klinger. “Upgrading the Kids Zone and donations to the Boys and Girls Club and other organizations are just an extension of that philosophy.”

DirectBuy showrooms offer members the opportunity to enjoy enormous savings on home furnishings, home improvement items, entertainment and outdoor products and accessories by purchasing wholesale, directly from the manufacturer. In addition, DirectBuy boasts a team of designers to help members with their purchases and gives them access to a roster of hand-selected contractors to expedite those projects.

Since 1971, DirectBuy has helped consumers enjoy enormous savings on home furnishings, home improvement items, entertainment and outdoor products, and accessories, by providing an avenue to purchase directly from the manufacturer. Conveniently located at 4950 Genesee Street in Cheektowaga, New York, DirectBuy of Buffalo offers members a comfortable, country-club setting, where they finally have the financial control of buying direct.

DirectBuy of Boston South provides one-stop shopping solution for green building materials and appliances.

October 15, 2008 //  by admin

ROCKLAND, MA…There’s a misconception among many consumers that buying “green” refers strictly to products made of natural materials. While that’s part of the equation, there’s much more to it. Like appliances and lighting that last longer and use less power to run. Or plumbing that requires less water. At DirectBuy of Boston South, members not only have the opportunity to purchase the full spectrum of green products under one roof, but they also can save some “green” buy paying manufacturer-direct prices.

Some of the green products available to DirectBuy members include:

  • Faucets and plumbing fixtures that offer low consumption
  •  Natural cork flooring and underlayments
  •  Flooring made of renewable natural bamboo
  •  Lighting and ceiling fans with Energy Star ratings
  •  Energy Star compliant kitchen appliances, washers and dryers
  •  Cabinets treated with low-voc, LEED-compliant stains
  •  Bedroom, dining room, living furniture manufactured by members of the Sustainable Furniture Council; many of these pieces are made from natural fibers, use eco-friendly foam and contain organic, halogen-free fire retardants.

“Consumers are always being encouraged to make ‘greener’ purchases, but there’s no real road map as to where to make these purchases and whether or not what they do buy is green,” said John Massaria, owner of DirectBuy of Boston South. “The green products our members can buy through DirectBuy have been rated by recognized authorities like Energy Star, LEED and the Sustainable Furniture Council, so you know the green purchase you’re making is part of the solution.”

Energy Star ratings refer to the U.S.-government backed program ranking the energy efficiency of products. LEED, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a voluntary green building rating system, which is a consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance sustainable buildings. The Sustainable Furniture Council is a non-profit balanced coalition of manufacturers, retailers and consumers offering a public tagging program to identify good “green” choices.

“We all know we should be making greener purchases, particularly when it comes to products we use in our everyday lives like lighting and appliances. Unfortunately, making those wiser choices can be quite costly. By making all these green options available at DirectBuy, we give our members the choice to save money and valuable natural resources,” said Massaria.

Since 1971, DirectBuy has helped consumers enjoy enormous savings on home furnishings, home improvement items, entertainment and outdoor products, and accessories, by providing an avenue to purchase directly from the manufacturer. DirectBuy of Boston South, conveniently located at 11A Commerce Road in Rockland, Massachusetts, offers consumers a comfortable, welcoming setting where they finally have the financial control of buying direct.

Consumers interested in becoming members may obtain a Visitor’s Pass to attend an Open House in the Rockland location by contacting DirectBuy of Boston South at 781-878-8846 or by visiting www.directbuybostonsouth.com.

Beverly Moore, RN, CS, founder of StilMee, The Leader in Alzheimer Coaching Serves as Keynote Speaker at Caregiver Conference in Orlando

October 14, 2008 //  by admin

DATELINE: QUINCY, MA AND ORLANDO, FL…

Beverly Moore, RN, CS, founder of StilMee, The leader in Alzheimer coaching of Quincy, MA and author of the book Matters of the Mind…and the Heart, recently gave a keynote speech at the annual Share The Care caregiver conference held at Rosen Plaza Hotel in Orlando, Florida.

Moore, whose company has coached more than 1,400 families in the care of a person with Alzheimer’s or a related disorder and who has more than 40 years of experience teaching and training professionals and para-professionals who specialize in behavior management, presented to an audience of approximately 200. Her presentation, entitled “Circles of Care” focused on family caregivers relinquishing the “me only” attitude and being open to others in sharing in the care of a loved one with dementia. During her presentation, Moore addressed caregivers’ need for validation and the importance of sharing their caregiving responsibilities with those who want to travel the “caregiver journey” with them.

“Although the conference was not specific to Alzheimer’s, I found a large percentage, perhaps 85-90 percent of caregivers were most stressed by behaviors of those with a cognitive disorder, whether due to Alzheimer’s, stroke, Parkinson or the developmental delay of now grown children,” explained Moore. “I’m not sure who received the most; the audience or me. Caregivers are a phenomenal group of people.”

Moore is a professional speaker and is available for educational public presentations, CEU programs, staff training and in-services. Her book for caregivers, Matters of the Mind…and the Heart sold out at the conference and is available online at Advantagebookstore.com.

To schedule a presentation or to learn more about Beverly Moore and StilMee, The leader in Alzheimer coaching, visit www.StilMee.com.

Megan Taylor celebrates 10 years with DirectBuy of Greater Vancouver

October 9, 2008 //  by admin

VANCOUVER, COQUITLAM, VICTORIA, AND OKANAGAN, BC…

In 1997, two lifelong friends, Peter Ruetz and Steve Pippy, decided to buy purchased DirectBuy of Greater Vancouver, the leading members-only showroom and home design center that offers merchandise at manufacturer-direct prices. Not too long after that, they hired Megan Taylor work in their reception area. So celebrating Megan’s 10-year anniversary with DirectBuy takes on an added significance.

“Megan’s 10-year anniversary means a lot to us for many reasons. For starters, being in business for 10 years doing anything says something in itself, but to provide enough challenges and opportunity for growth for your employees to want to stay that long says quite a bit about DirectBuy,” said Peter Ruetz, co-owner of DirectBuy of Greater Vancouver. “Megan’s been a wonderful addition to our company from her first day until now. Frankly, it’s impossible for me to think of this place without her here.”

Originally hired as a receptionist, Taylor quickly became a jack-of-all trades, helping customers place orders and even working in shipping and receiving. That versatility paid off and she was promoted to service manager, a position she’s held for the past seven years.

A resident of Pitt Meadows, Taylor worked in the medical field prior to her DirectBuy days and holds a medical office assistant’s certification from Douglas College. During her time at DirectBuy, she’s won Corporate’s Ultimate Service Star and attended The Summit conference for DirectBuy’s superior performers.

Said Taylor,“DirectBuy has been a wonderful place to work these past 10 years. What amazes me that even after 10 years, I still learn so much about furniture and the business itself. Another benefit is that there are members I’ve known since my first day until now. I’ve seen them come in and buy wedding invitations, then baby furniture and so on. Plus, Peter and Steve are just amazing people to work for. They’re really more like my family.”

Since 1971, DirectBuy franchises have offered members the opportunity to enjoy enormous savings on home furnishings, home improvement items, entertainment and outdoor products and accessories by buying wholesale, directly from the manufacturer. With four convenient locations in the greater Vancouver area (Victoria, Vancouver, Coquitlam, and Kelowna), consumers can enjoy a comfortable, country-club setting, where they finally have the financial control of buying direct.

For more information on a DirectBuy membership, visit www.DirectBuyBC.ca.

October 9, 2008 //  by admin

DATELINE: MARSHFIELD, MA… It’s time for the Boys and Girls Club of Marshfield’s annual Club Haunt event! Dress in costume and get ready for a fun-filled spooky evening of entertainment! Club Haunt will be held at the Marshfield Fairgrounds on October 24, 25 and 26th. Gates open at 6 p.m. Admission is $12 per person and covers all haunted activities.

Club Haunt offers affordable family fun and also makes for a great date night with plenty of frightening activities, spooky characters and games for all ages. Activities include a family hayride, which is “not-so-scary” and meant for young children, as well as a “scare you witless” haunted hayride. Club Haunt dining is available at an additional charge and will be provided by Crest Family Catering in Hanover.

More than 75 volunteers and staff work tirelessly to pull off this successful annual Club Haunt event. Each year, approximately 2,000 to 3,000 people attend.

“This is one of our biggest events drawing families from far and wide. There’s something for everyone. People with very young children can enjoy the spooky, yet not scary, hayride and games. Older children and adults will enjoy a more frightening haunted hayride and Club Haunt experience,” said the club’s Executive Director Greg Jackson. “A lot of people attend the event in costume. It’s a really good time and it raises money for a good cause.”

About the Boys and Girls Club

The Boys and Girls Club of Marshfield’s purpose is to establish a safe haven for recreation, which includes a variety of supervised activities for greater than 4,000 youths (between the ages of 6 to 18 years old) within the town. The Boys and Girls Club of Marshfield has five Core Areas: Character and Leadership; Education and Career; Health, Sport Fitness Recreation and Life Skills; The Arts; and Technology. These Core Areas serve as the foundation for all programming.

As a privately-funded, non-profit organization, the Boys and Girls Club of Marshfield relies tremendously on the generous philanthropic support of individuals. Financial gifts assist in providing the financial strength necessary to continue the club’s mission “to enable and inspire all young people to realize their full potential as productive and responsible citizens, as well as become tomorrow’s capable leaders.”
