Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac General Sales Manager Joe Wilkerson (far left) and Plymouth South Vice Principal Marc Loranger toast Plymouth South students have not only achieved perfect attendance so far this year but have also made the honor roll.

PLYMOUTH, MA…

As an incoming freshman, it can be difficult to stand out at a school the size of Plymouth South. In spite of the challenge of being the new kids on the block, 26 Plymouth South freshman have managed to distinguish themselves quite early in their high school careers, achieving a perfect attendance record and making the honor roll for the first term. For that, they were recently honored as winners of the Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac’s Driven Student of the Month Award.

“Freshmen have a lot of adjustments to make when entering high school, including a heavier homework load. The best way to absorb all the new things they are learning is to be here and study. This group of kids has done that,” said Marc Loranger, assistant vice principal and director of Plymouth South’s freshman academy.  “What makes their accomplishment even more special is that these are the only students in the entire school—including upper classmen—who made honor roll and had perfect attendance.”

For being chosen as the Driven Students of the Month, the group received a pizza party courtesy of Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac.

“Perfect attendance for more than a quarter is a noteworthy accomplishment on its own. To couple that with making the honor roll, that’s really impressive,” said Joe Wilkerson, general sales manager at Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac. “In selecting Driven Students, we look for kids who are going above and beyond inside and outside the classroom. These students have shown themselves to be very worthy recipients of our Driven Student Award.”

Students selected for the Driven Student Award include: James Addison, Andrew Armenio, Alexandra Birch, Emily Cannon, Tyler Chiocchio, Robert Colbert, Sydni Dabkowski, Sarah Donlan, Caroline Elrick, Samuel Ferreira, Laura Francis, Alyssa Goyette, Cameron Hunter, Shannon Lyons, Andrew Mahoney, Emily Manson, Kevin McManus, Nicole Mullally, Eileen Murphy, Elizabeth O’keefe, Jabon Rooney, Emily Spillane, Allysia Tavekelian and David Trombly.

Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac’s Driven Student program recognizes Plymouth high school students for their performance and achievements in and out of the classroom. Awarded on a monthly basis, recipients are selected by faculty and advisors at the student’s given school.

Knowing the language…Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac recognizes Plymouth North English students.

Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac Driven Students

PLYMOUTH, MA…

Taking English in high school is a core requirement for high school students. For some students, that’s difficult enough. But imagine if it was your second language? That’s part of the reason why Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac recently honored students in Plymouth North High School’s English Language Learner program as Driven Students of the Month for November.

Maria daSilva teaches the program at Plymouth North High School, which includes 15 students whose native languages include Spanish, French, Arabic, Chinese, Vietnamese and Portuguese. The English program is an additional course of study on top of a full course load.

“A good portion of the students who started out in this program prior to high school did not speak or understand English at all,” said daSilva. “It’s a tribute to their character and determination that they not only have picked up the language but how they can then use that knowledge and do well in their classes.”

In fact, of the 15 class members, six made the honor roll for the first quarter. Those students are Wilson Parra, Carla Cardozo, Sharlene Vallecillo, Mi Mi Xiong, Ludmilla Magalhaes, and Kim Khuu. Other members of the class include Gustavo Alves, Vinicius Braga, Kamila Cordeiro, Ana Paula Da Silva, Smerling De los Santos, Mohamed Amine Mena, Fatima Mena, Alexandre Rodrigues,  and Leticia Magalhaes.

For being selected Driven Students of the Month, the class received a pizza party, courtesy of Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac. In addition to food and drink, the students also received Tracy Chevrolet drink koozies delivered by Tracy’s Service Manager Rick McGue and Business Manager John Fasolino.

“It’s absolutely astounding what these students have been able to accomplish—learning a new language—in such a short period. Then, for several of them to make the honor roll on top of that. It’s amazing,” said Jeff Tracy, president of Tracey Chevrolet Cadillac.

Tracy Driven Student award goes South…Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac recognizes Plymouth South freshmen.

October 18, 2010 //  by admin

Tracy Driven Students for October

PLYMOUTH, MA…

For the past three years, Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac has honored local high school students for their accomplishments inside and outside the classroom with the monthly Driven Student award. This year’s award program kicked off at Plymouth South High School, with Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac throwing a pizza party for 16 freshman students selected by their teachers for their positive performance both inside and outside the classroom.

Those students treated to a pizza party include: Alexa Cole, Kevin Cowden, Katya Edson, Tim Elrick, Rebecca Geary, Tommy Giorgio, Lexy Halpin, Christina Jaros, Marisa Kanter, Dylan O’Connell, Andrew Pelzer, Kayla Phakousahn, Anthony Schena, Bobby Sirois, Alex Swiniarski and Wilma Urbain.

“One of the most difficult transitions a student can make is going from middle school to high school. You’re essentially going from the big man on campus to low man on the totem pole within a few months,” said Jeff Tracy, president of Tracey Chevrolet Cadillac. “These students were selected by their teachers as the students who have made that transition seamlessly. For that, they are worthy recipients of the Driven Student award.”

In addition to the pizza party, students also received Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac drink koozies for being selected Driven Student of the Month for October.

“The Driven Student program has been wonderful for our students, particularly the freshmen,” said A.J. Butters, Freshman Academy House Master. “Freshman often take a backseat to upper classmen in terms of recognition. With this program, we have a way to recognize the students who are getting the job done, even if it is early in their high school career.”

Plymouth North wrestlers pin down Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac’s “Driven Student” award for March.

March 24, 2009 //  by admin

PLYMOUTH, MA…

Whoever coined the phrase “It’s not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game.” probably didn’t have a wrestling team in mind. Yet it certainly applies to Plymouth North’s 2008-09 wrestling team, this month’s winner of the Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac Driven Student of the Month award for March.

The team finished 4-23 in its first year as a new program. Yet according to Coach Mike Grimes, his young grapplers ended the season light years ahead of where we started it. Said Grimes, “We were like any other program in that we had our ups and downs during the season, but there were more good moments than bad ones. You could see the confidence grow in the kids as the season rolled along.”

That confidence also showed itself in the chilly waters of Plymouth Harbor as the Plymouth North wrestlers made a splash at this year’s Polar Plunge, the fundraiser for Jordan Hospital’s cancer unit.  The team received the award for raising the most money for a high school team. Ironically, the team has had its share of difficulties in raising funds to purchase a mat for home meets (they’ve borrowed a mat to date).

As winners of Tracy’s Driven Student of the Month honor, the team was treated to a pizza party and received Tracy pens and key chains, courtesy of Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac.

“The Plymouth North wrestling team is most deserving of this month’s Driven Student award. Not only does it take discipline to be a wrestler, but it takes a real commitment to help start a program and take the lumps that can go along with that. I commend them for their efforts,” said Jeff Tracy, president of Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac.

Members of the 200809 Plymouth North wrestling team include: Frank Aguiar, Eric Brown, Anthony Clark, Kyle Decker, Jon Dee, Gavin Dineen, Glen Drew, Connor Elliot, Josh Hamblin, Justin Maskell, Chris Morse, Hieu Nguyen, Charlie Phachanisiri, Henry Regelado, Matt Ryan, John Sharp, Carlos Solomon, Vincent Tavernelli, Anthony Valero, Drew Wadman, Ben Waltuch and Jared Weinstock.

If you would like to make a contribution to the fund to purchase a wrestling mat for Plymouth North High School, please contact Kevin Farrell, Freshman Housemaster, at 508-830-0101.

Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac hosts successful Chamber after hours event.

November 4, 2008 //  by admin

PLYMOUTH, MA…

In this day of the Internet, text messaging and Web conferences, business owners sometimes need a reminder of the value of face-to-face contact with potential customers and in developing your network. Judging by the turnout at Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac for the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce’s after hours on October 23—in excess of 100 attendees—many business owners share that sentiment.

“In good times and in bad, you’re only as strong as your network. These chamber events are a great way to both develop a network and/or reacquaint yourself with people you haven’t seen in a while,” said Jeff Tracy, president of Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac and board member of the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to some spirited networking, attendees also had the opportunity to test drive Chevy Tahoe hybrid, the Cadillac Escalade hybrid and the Malibu hybrid. People taking a test drive were then entered into a drawing for a 42-inch, flat screen television. Norm Bryson, of Automated Business Forms & Systems, won the new television.

“We’d like to thank the Chamber for letting us host this event. I saw a lot of familiar faces and many more new ones. I hope more businesses in the Plymouth area choose to get involved with the Chamber,” said Tracy. “Sure, the economy could be better but businesses helping each other through networking is one way you can right the ship.”

The Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac dealership is located at 137 Samoset Street (Route 44) in Plymouth. Take exit 6 off Route 3 and follow Route 44 west toward Carver. For more information on Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac, visit www.tracymotors.com. For information on the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce, please go to www.plymouthchamber.com.

New “kids” at school are also driven…New teachers at Plymouth North receive Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac’s “Driven Student” award for September.

October 22, 2008 //  by admin

PLYMOUTH, MA…

Being the new kid at school is never easy. You could make the same case for being the new teacher. In addition to getting to know the students, there’s also meeting new colleagues, getting around a new building, etc. To help that assimilation and welcome them to the school, Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac welcomed the 25 teachers new to Plymouth North High School with September’s Driven Student Award.

“To be a teacher takes a special kind of commitment and dedication. Unfortunately, it’s an often under-appreciated occupation. By awarding our ‘Driven Student’ award to the new teachers at Plymouth North, we’re hopefully getting the message across in some small way that teachers are appreciated and welcome,” said Jeff Tracy, president of Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac.

In honor of being selected for the “Driven Student” award, the teachers received a pizza party courtesy of Tracy Chevrolet. Those teachers honored include: Dr. Andrew Daitsman, Terese Dentici, Schott Shirley, Jane Burt, Maureen Chamberlain, Colleen Donlan, Hymeld Gaignard, Janine Giatrakos, Joelene Hoffman, Donald Ivas, Jessica Jackson, Margaret Madden, Karen Merrill, Andrea Norton, MaryJo Sabalweski, Timothy Ward, Jon Zucchi, Mary Quinn, Brian Raymond, Tanya Little, Michael Carroll, Barbara Gravelle, Alida Nickerson, Lisa Richard, Lonnie Simmons and Julie Webster.

“This is the second year we’ve been a part of the ‘Driven Student’ program with Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac and it’s been a wonderful for the kids and now members of the faculty,” said Kevin Farrell, Freshman Academy Housemaster. “We all [faculty members] were once new to this school and recognizing these individuals is just a nice way to get their Plymouth North careers off to a good start.”
