Plymouth road race

Plymouth has the Thanksgiving Day runs. Plymouth Turkey Trot and Thanksgiving Day 5k are the main course for road races on Thanksgiving Day.

November 7, 2013 //  by admin

2012 Turkey TrotPLYMOUTH, MA…

Turkey, Thanksgiving and the Town of Plymouth are synonymous with the Thanksgiving Day holiday. With each passing year, road races become a larger part of the holiday in America’s hometown. Case in point, two Thanksgiving Day races in Plymouth: Plymouth Turkey Trot, a 5- mile run on Thanksgiving morning followed by the Thanksgiving Day Pilgrim 5k Run and Walk.

The second annual Plymouth Turkey Trot starts at Plymouth Rock at 7:45am. The five-mile course offers scenic views of the Plymouth’s picturesque oceanfront and passes several historical sites including Plymouth Rock, Burial Hill and The Mayflower. The cost to register is $27. Prizes will be awarded to men’s and women’s winners in several age groups.

The fourth annual Thanksgiving Day Pilgrim 5k run and walk kicks off from Village Racquet at Pine Hills, 30 Gold Drive, Plymouth at 10:15 a.m. rain or shine, also on Thanksgiving morning. The course includes the oldest road in America, Old Sandwich Road. This race site was the original trail used by Pilgrims and Native Americans in the 1600’s as they traveled from Plymouth to Sandwich, Mass. Cost is $25.

All participants will receive a commemorative finishers’ medal.  T-Shirts, designed by professional graphic artists, will be given to all participants.

“Does it get any better than earning your Thanksgiving Day turkey dinner by running a road race in the town where the holiday originated?” asked Steve Dubin, spokesperson for the Plymouth Turkey Trot and Thanksgiving Day 5k Run and Walk. “Actually, it does as we are also offering a ‘third’ race for those who would like a truly guilt-free holiday meal by running in both Plymouth Turkey Trot and the Thanksgiving Day 5K. It’s called The Second Helping Challenge.”

The 2013 Second Helping Challenge welcomes runners to sign up for both races at a reduced rate of $40. Running both races earns runners a permanent listing on the Second Helping’s “Couch of Fame” and on Plymouth Rock Racing’s Facebook as well as an exclusive and awesome Second Helping sweatshirt.

The top three combined time winners for both men’s and women’s divisions will receive a cool prize and trophy. Prizes will also be awarded to top Second Helping participants in the following age groups: 15 and under, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60 and over.

For complete race information and registration details on the Plymouth Turkey Trot, Thanksgiving Day 5k and the Second Helping Challenge visit www.runplymouth.com. If you or your company is interested in sponsoring either the Plymouth Turkey Trot or the Thanksgiving Day Turkey 5k Run and Walk, please contact Steve Dubin at 781-582-1061 or sdubin@prworkzone.com.

A new entrée for the main course. Run for Faith expands four-mile course.

July 23, 2013 //  by admin

The Run for Faith 4-Miler has expanded to 4.58 this year to reduce turnarounds and create more scenic views.

PLYMOUTH, MA…

The third annual Run for Faith 4-miler will be adding a new wrinkle to this year’s race. The course has been expanded to 4.58 miles thanks to the removal of a turnaround in the course at Eel River and the addition of a scenic detour through the woods on Bump Rock Road and Forges Road.

“My wife is the real runner in the family and she’s not a big fan of turnarounds. So, we’re delighted to be able to remove the Eel Circle turnaround from the course and take the course away from road traffic down a private road in a beautiful part of Plymouth,” said Matthew Romboldi, Run for Faith organizer and son of Faith “Marcy” Romboldi, in whose memory the race is held. Faith lost her battle to ovarian cancer in 2010. “We certainly appreciate the generosity of residents on Bump Rock Road and Forges Road for allowing the Run for Faith course to use their street and for the Plymouth Police Department for working with us on this change.”

In expanding the course, Romboldi wanted to enhance the race experience for runners of all skill and experience levels.

Said Romboldi, “At 4.58 miles, you still are at a distance where newer runners and those pushing strollers will want to give it a shot. Yet there’s enough of a challenge for faster runners to embrace the course. Plus, for them most part, you are away from the heavy traffic areas like Route 3A and downtown Plymouth. It’s a quiet and serene run that really captures the beauty of Plymouth, both on the water and inland.”

The third annual Run for Faith 4Miler, which is a gold member in the Bayside Runner Racing Series, will take place on Sunday, August 11 at 8:30 a.m. at historic Plimouth Plantation. The Run for Faith’s 4.58-mile race loop includes spectacular views of Cape Cod Bay, the Eel River and scenic horse farms, as well as unmatched history.

The entry fee is $25 – which will once again go to scholarships for Plymouth high school students, the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, the Plymouth Public Library and other Plymouth charities and non-profits (Last year’s Run for Faith resulted in two $2,500 scholarships for graduating Plymouth North and Plymouth South high school students; The Run for Faith also has contributed $10,000 to Dana Farber’s Yawkey Center for Cancer Care since 2011).

Water stations are plentiful and the event is professionally timed by Spitler Racing Systems. Prizes will go to top finishers, male and female, and awards will be given to top finishers for various age groups, including the Stroller Division.

The Run for Faith is organized by Run for Faith, Inc., which is 501(c)(3) non-profit organization created to commemorate the special life of Faith “Marcy” Romboldi who gave so much of herself to both individuals and the community.

The Run for Faith’s current roster of sponsors includes: Baker’s Auto; Marty’s Buick GMC Isuzu; The East Bay Grille; Mayflower Food & Spirits; Stevens The Florist; RJF Homes; Cape Auto; G&G Silk Screen Embroidery; B&B Auto Body; Dunlap’s Propane; Associated Engineers; Wood’s Seafood; Kingston House of Pizza; Almeida Towing Service; Plimouth Plantation; Davis Carpentry; Dunlap’s Oil; Richard’s Wine & Spirits; Mike Tupper, Welding; and the Lobster Pound. Interested sponsors can contact Matthew Romboldi at 508-400-0751.

To register, please visit www.runforfaithplymouth.org. The registration deadline is midnight on August 8. You can view the course online at http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/42074524.

Plymouth man pitches in on fight against cancer; throws out first pitch on Pink Night

July 19, 2013 //  by admin

Matt Romboldi and son Charlie throw out the first pitch for "Pink" night at the Plymouth Pilgrims baseball game to celebrate cancer research. Matt welcomes the community to participate in "Run for Faith" a family oriented road race to raise additional funds for cancer research and set for Sunday, August 11, 8:30 a.m. at Plimouth Plantation.
Matt Romboldi and son Charlie throw out the first pitch for “Pink” night at the Plymouth Pilgrims baseball game to celebrate cancer research. Matt welcomes the community to participate in “Run for Faith” a family oriented road race to raise additional funds for cancer research and set for Sunday, August 11, 8:30 a.m. at Plimouth Plantation.

PLYMOUTH, MA…

For Matthew Romboldi, Plymouth resident and owner of Lombard’s Waste removal, the fight against cancer became personal when he lost his mother Marcy “Faith” Romboldi to ovarian cancer in 2010. With his annual road race, The Run for Faith 4-miler, he’s raised more than $10,000 to fight cancer. So when the Plymouth Pilgrims asked him to throw out the first pitch on Pink Night, a promotion to benefit Jordan Hospital’s Breast Center, it was an offer he could not refuse.

“My mother was all about her faith, her family and helping others and that was long before she had cancer,” said Romboldi before the game. “If she was still with us, she’d be dressed in sitting in the front row, dressed in pink from head to toe and saying a silent prayer that I would reach the catcher’s mitt in the air.”

Pink Night occurred on Thursday, July 18 at the Plymouth Pilgrims game versus the Laconia Muskrats. Forges Field was adorned with a pink rubber on the mound and pink bases. Prior to the game, breast cancer survivors walked the bases—all in an effort to raise breast cancer awareness and the work of the Jordan Hospital Breast Center.

The nationally-accredited Jordan Hospital Breast Center represents a concerted effort across medical, radiological and surgical disciplines at Jordan Hospital to provide the highest quality breast health care. Jordan’s advanced technology and multidisciplinary approach enables them to streamline the process from the time a patient enters the system and an abnormality is detected. The Jordan Breast Center’s goal is to have most diagnoses within five business days.

“The Run for Faith and Jordan Breast Center’s Kayla’s Beat Goes On 5k are the only road races in Plymouth that raise money to treat and fight cancer,” said Romboldi. “By consistently holding fundraisers and awareness events like this, we will hopefully find the cure for all cancers one day.”

Not your typical Sunday Stroll. Run for Faith announces Stroller Division

July 15, 2013 //  by admin

Faith “Marcy” Romboldi

PLYMOUTH, MA…

People participate in road races for any number of reasons. Some need the race as a goal to get in better shape. Other runners want to top a personal best time or distance. For many runners who participate in the Run for Faith, the four-mile road race is an opportunity to bond with their child via the race’s Stroller Division.

“There are loads of road races in Plymouth but I can’t think of any that have an official Stroller Division that awards prizes for the winner,” said Matthew Romboldi, said Matthew Romboldi, Run for Faith organizer and son of Marcy “Faith” Romboldi, in whose memory the race is held. Faith lost her battle to ovarian cancer in 2010.

Adds Romboldi, “My mother was all about family and she’d be thrilled at how many families, including our own, participate in the Run for Faith. That we have a stroller division that makes it possible for even more families to participate is icing on the cake.”

The winner of the Stroller Division also get an added prize. In addition to the winner’s medal, the first place finisher for the Stroller Division will receive a complimentary massage at Equinox in Kingston, Mass.

“There’s a certain empowerment that comes with pushing your child in a stroller. It gives you an added boost to dig a little deeper, which makes finishing a race and meeting your goals even more rewarding,” said Nicole Romboldi, wife of Matthew Romboldi and mother to a three-year-old son, Charlie. “Of course, you feel it that much more after the race, which is why we are so happy to reward the winner of the Stroller Division with a free massage.”

The third annual Run for Faith 4Miler, which is a gold member in the Bayside Runner Racing Series, will take place on Sunday, August 11 at 8:30 a.m. at historic Plimoth Plantation. Volunteers needed for third annual Run for Faith 4-miler, August 11

June 19, 2013 //  by admin

PLYMOUTH, MA…

Volunteers play an important part in any road race. That’s been particularly true for the Run for Faith, a four-mile road race set in Plymouth, Massachusetts—the first Run for Faith took place right before Hurricane Irene. The Run for Faith recently announced the need for additional volunteers for this year’s third annual race, set for Sunday, August 11.

“There would not be a Run for Faith if it were not for our volunteers. Their love and affection for Mom carried us through the first race where we literally finished as Hurricane Katrina began,” said Matthew Romboldi, Run for Faith organizer and son of Marcy “Faith” Romboldi, in whose memory the race is held. Faith lost her battle to ovarian cancer in 2010.

Added Matthew,“Volunteers for this race either are family or like family. And in our family, there’s always room for more.”

Volunteers are needed to man registration tables, water stations and other day-of-race functions. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Matthew Romboldi at 508-400-0751 or info@runforfaithplymouth.org.

The third annual Run for Faith 4Miler, which is a gold member in the Bayside Runner Racing Series, will take place on Sunday, August 11 at 8:30 a.m. at historic Plimoth Plantation. A running capital idea. Third annual Run for Faith set for Sun., August 11 in the Road Race Capital of Plymouth, MA

May 24, 2013 //  by admin

PLYMOUTH, MA…

With more than 50 road races planned for 2014, Plymouth, Massachusetts has quickly become the road race capital of the U.S. The four-mile Run for Faith, set to enter its third year on August 11, is a fine example of why America’s Hometown has been able to sustain so many races: history.

“Actually, it’s more that each race in Plymouth has its own story and history. In our case, the race is dedicated to the memory of my mother, Faith Romboldi, who lost a courageous battle to ovarian cancer and we’ve been able to raise a good amount of money for the causes that were near and dear to her. That includes two $2500 scholarships to graduating Plymouth high school seniors,” said Matthew Romboldi, Run for Faith organizer. “The other part is the history of the race. Our first year, we ran it before Hurricane Irene hit. So we have an identity as the race that beat Irene and there’s always that question lingering about ‘what kind of weather will we get this year?”

In addition to the story and history, the Run for Faith has other characteristics that have endeared it to local runners, most notably the course and race features. The four-mile race loop captures spectacular views of Cape Cod Bay, the Eel River and scenic horse farms. The course features rolling hills and unmatched history.  Water stations are plentiful and the event is professionally timed by Spitler Racing Systems. There is also be a Stroller Division, so runners can run with their young children.

Last year’s Run for Faith resulted in two $2,500 scholarships, which will be given to students graduating from Plymouth North and Plymouth South in 2013. The Run for Faith also contributed $5,000 ($10,000 since the Run for Faith began) to Dana Farber’s Yawkey Center for Cancer Care.

The third annual Run for Faith 4Miler, which is a a gold member in the Bayside Runner Racing Series, is set for Sunday, August 11 at 8:30 a.m. at historic Plimoth Plantation. Entry fee is $25 – which will once again go to scholarships for Plymouth high school students, the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, the Plymouth Public Library and other Plymouth charities and non-profits. Runners can register at www.runforfaithplymouth.org.

Prizes will go to top finishers, male and female, and awards will be given to top finishers for various age groups. Post-race “light refreshments” will include bananas, oranges, bagels, muffins and scones.  To amuse younger family members, a jumpy house will be available. A number of vendors will be on hand to sell their wares before and after the race.

The Run for Faith is organized by Run for Faith, Inc., which is 501(c)(3) non-profit organization created to commemorate the special life of Faith “Marcy” Romboldi who gave so much of herself to both individuals and the community.

Faith, or “Marcy” as she was known by her friends and family, was a teacher, member of the Red Hat’s Society, Sweet Adeline’s, and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2008. Marcy’s ability to fight this vicious disease with incessant might and unsurpassed grace will never be forgotten and surely serves as inspiration to those who were close. Mostly, Marcy will be remembered for her acts of kindness, generosity and thoughtfulness. Many will remember her for her two best accessories- a lovely hat and a radiant smile!

Interested sponsors can contact Matthew Romboldi at 508-400-0751. For more information, please visit www.runforfaithplymouth.org, or email info@runforfaithplymouth.org. You can view the course online at: http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/42074524.

New dirt on 2013 Old Sandwich Road Race. Kenyan Moninda Marube to defend half-marathon title at 2013 Old Sandwich Road Race

May 14, 2013 //  by admin

: 2012 Old Sandwich Road Race Half Marathon Winner Moninda Marube of Kenya with Race Director and Plymouth resident Craig Valentine Brenner. Marube will return to Plymouth, MA to run in the 2013 Old Sandwich Road Race half marathon.

PLYMOUTH, MA…

In 2012, the Old Sandwich Road Race celebrated its first international winner as Kenyan Moninda Marube set a course record in the half marathon. The Kenyan native recently announced he will return to run the dirt and defend his title in the 2013 Old Sandwich Road Race, which takes place on Sunday June 2.

“I have run many races in the U.S. and around the world. There is something special about the Old Sandwich Road Race that appeals to a runner’s soul. Maybe it’s the history, maybe it’s the dirt course. Most of all, it’s the people. I had a wonderful time running last year’s and am looking forward to returning,” said Marube.

The fourth annual Old Sandwich Road Race consists of a half marathon, 5k and 10k. A substantial portion of the half marathon takes place on the dirt section of Old Sandwich Road.

Originally a trail used by the Wampanoag Native American tribe, Old Sandwich Road later became the nation’s first true public road and a stagecoach route to ferry passengers and mail back and forth between the Massachusetts towns of Plymouth and Sandwich. Today, the road remains pretty much as the Pilgrims left it–a wide, scenic, dirt road bordered by beautiful tall pine trees and towering oaks. It offers perfect views for runners and a dirt road surface that’s far kinder to the body than asphalt or cement.

“We’re happy to have Moninda return to defend his title and that OSRR continues to be a desirable race for people across the country and now around the world,” said OSRR Spokesman Steve Dubin, noting that last year’s races drew runners from 28 states and four countries. “This year promises to be even more memorable with Moninda’s participation and the Boston Marathon runners.”

The Old Sandwich Road Race has waived the entry for Boston Marathon runners who, due to circumstances beyond their control, were unable to cross the finish line. One person, Julia Daly, of Cambridge, Massachusetts, has already accepted the OSRR’s invitation.

“Words cannot describe how I felt that day. I was running to raise money for Dana Farber Cancer Institute. My disappointment in not being able to finish meant very little compared to what was going on just a few miles ahead of me,” said Daly. “I’m grateful to have my family, friends and self come out of that day healthy and alive. I think the best way to honor those who perished and were hurt is to keep running and that’s what I plan to do in Plymouth this June and back in Boston next year.”

Boston Marathon runners can RSVP by e-mailing the following information to the OSRR Race Director at runosrr@gmail.com:

  • First and last name
  • Address
  • Age on race day
  • Cell number
  • Email address

The OSRR features a total $3,000 winner-take-all purses for the half marathon male and female winners ($1500 each) and special edition finisher’s medals for all half marathon participants. In addition, this year’s race includes:

  • Newest available timing technology.
  • Great top finisher and age group awards.
  • Personalized finisher announcements.
  • An awesome high quality tech shirt!
  • Free food to all runners and their screaming fans!
  • Full uniformed Boy Scouts manning the water stops.
  • Professional, broadcast finish announcer.

OSRR’s early bird rate for the 5k ($24), 10k ($40) and half marathon ($60) ends on May 27. Prices will increase for runners registering at later dates and on race day.

The Old Sandwich Road Race benefits area charities, including The Home for Little Wanderer’s South Campus in Plymouth. The Baird Center School is a year-round residential and day school treatment program for youth aged 10-18 with a wide range of emotional, behavioral, educational and psychiatric issues.

Old Sandwich Road Race gives half marathoners a chance to finish “Boston Strong”

April 24, 2013 //  by admin

OSRR waives entry fee for Boston Marathon participants who were unable to finish due to tragedy

PLYMOUTH, MA…

Many runners dream of not only participating in, but completing the Boston Marathon. Due to circumstances beyond their control, many Boston Marathon participants were unable to cross the finish line. Though it’s impossible to bring that opportunity back, the Old Sandwich Road Race (OSRR) is trying to make it better by waiving the $50 entry fee to participate in the half marathon for those who ran in the Boston Marathon and could not finish.

“An entire region had its heart broken with the devastation that came with the events at this year’s Marathon. But one of the blessings that came with this tragedy is how everybody pulled together to both capture the perpetrators and begin the healing,” said Steve Dubin, communications director for the Old Sandwich Road Race. “This gesture cannot undo the damage that was done and the lives that were lost. But in a small way, it’s part of the healing process.”

The fourth annual Old Sandwich Road Race takes place on Sunday, June 2. Beyond the half marathon, OSRR includes a 5k and 10k. While the race may not have the history of the Boston Marathon, the course does.

“Besides history, the OSRR has a national and international flavor as well. As well as drawing runners from 28 states and four countries over the past two years, we had our first international winner—Kenyan Moninda Marube—setting a course record for the half marathon of 1:08:13 and winning a $3,000 winner-take-all purse,” said Dubin.

In addition to the winner-take-all purse for the half marathon male and female winner and special edition finisher’s medals for all half marathon participants, this year’s race includes:

  • Newest available timing technology.
  • Sponsor gift pack – Over $500 in discounts and coupons.
  • Great top finisher and age group awards.
  • Personalized finisher announcements.
  • An awesome high quality tech shirt!
  • Free food to all runners and their screaming fans!
  • Full uniformed Boy Scouts manning the water stops.
  • Professional, broadcast finish announcer.

OSRR’s early bird rate for the 5k ($22), 10k ($35) and half marathon ($50) ends on May 1. Prices will increase for runners registering at later dates.

Plymouth Turkey Trot partners with my TEAM TRIUMPH – Cape Cod for Thanksgiving Day road race in America’s hometown

The Plymouth Turkey Trot Road Race will start at Plymouth’s Memorial Park.

PLYMOUTH, MA…

How do you determine the success of a road race? Is it profit? Number of runners and/or sponsors? For organizers of the first ever Plymouth Turkey Trot, they are already considering the race a triumph even before a runner has crossed the start line thanks to its recent partnership with myTEAM TRIUMPH – Cape Cod, a 501(c)3 Charity.

myTEAM TRIUMPH (mTT) is an athletic ride-along program created for children, teens, adults and veterans with disabilities who would normally not be able to experience endurance events such as triathlons or road races. myTEAM Triumph provides all the equipment needed to allow these individuals to participate, including boats and harnesses for the swim, trailers for the bike and chairs for the run. The Plymouth Turkey Trot, a 4.77 mile run on Thanksgiving morning in Plymouth, Mass., has announced it will waive the $20 entry fee for all myTeam Triumph participants.

“What runner has not seen the legendary Dick and Rick Hoyt and not been inspired by father pushing son mile after mile?” said Steve Dubin, spokesman for Plymouth Turkey Trot. “We’re delighted to partner with myTEAM TRIUMPH of Cape Cod, an organization that was created because of the inspiration of the Hoyts, and help make that experience possible for others.”

The participants with disabilities are known as “Captains,” and the athletes who have the honor of pushing and pulling the Captains on the course are called their “Angels.” mTT helps these competitors to participate in following events:

  • Triathlons
  • 10Ks
  • 5Ks
  • Marathons
  • Half Marathons

“We can’t thank Plymouth Turkey Trot enough for providing us this opportunity,” said Marry Liz Nogueras, Executive Director of myTEAM TRIUMPH – Cape Cod. “Thanksgiving road races have become a new holiday tradition and we’re quite grateful to give our Captains and Angels the chance to participate in the newest Thanksgiving Day road race in America’s hometown.”

The Plymouth Turkey Trot starts at Memorial Park on the Waterfront at Plymouth Rock at 7:30am. The 4.77 mile course offers scenic views of the Plymouth’s picturesque oceanfront, and passes several historical sites including Plymouth Rock, Burial Hill and The Mayflower. The cost to register is $20 before November 1. Prizes will be awarded to men’s and women’s winners in several age groups.

For complete information, on the Plymouth Turkey Trot, visit www.plymouthturkeytrot.com.

In addition to the new Plymouth Turkey Trot, three other road races will take place in Plymouth. Those include the Plymouth Turkey Trot’s sister race, the third annual Thanksgiving Day Pilgrim 5k on Thanksgiving morning, the Turkey Chase for Charity and America’s Hometown’s Thanksgiving Race the latter two taking place during the weekend prior to Thanksgiving.

The third annual Thanksgiving Day Pilgrim 5k kicks off from the Village Racquet and Fitness Center, at Pine Hills, 30 Gold Drive, Plymouth at 9:30 a.m. rain or shine on Thanksgiving morning. The course includes the oldest road in America, Old Sandwich Road. This race site was the original trail used by Pilgrims and Native Americans in the 1600’s as they traveled from Plymouth to Sandwich, Mass. Cost is $20 online until November 1.

All participants will receive a custom finishers’ medal.  T-Shirts, designed by professional graphic artists, will be given to all 1,000 runners.
