New bagel packaging equipment fuels Between Rounds wholesale expansion

November 1, 2024 //  by admin

Between Rounds’ signature bagels packaged in new, brightly colored bags. The 4-packs feature the following flavors: Plain, Sesame, Poppy, Everything, Asiago, and Cheddar bagels.

MANCHESTER, EAST WINDSOR, SOUTH WINDSOR, TOLLAND AND VERNON, CT…
A significant investment in new packaging machinery has Between Rounds Bakery Sandwich Café positioned for further expansion and growth.

Between Rounds Bakery Sandwich Café, the unique bagel shop and bakery café with five locations in Connecticut, is also a wholesale bagel supplier to more than 100 grocery stores.

The company recently invested in new packaging equipment that enables them to have their logo and full label information printed onto bagel bags, thus eliminating the paper labels which had required additional labor of adhering them to the plastic bags.

Between Rounds’ new equipment means that their locally-made bagels are packaged at Between Rounds and delivered to grocery stores or to a central drop location ready for sale.

As a result of the new packaging, interest has spiked and new retailers have become wholesale partners. Between Rounds newest partnership is with Price Chopper/Market 32.

According to Jerry Puiia, co-founder of Between Rounds, “Our wholesale business has grown significantly from independent, family-owned stores to multi-location grocery retailers. With Big Y, we had started with just a handful of stores and now we provide our bagels to all Big Y stores in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Our new packaging equipment enables us to meet greater demand from grocery retailers in Connecticut and beyond.”

Puiia continued, “With the new packaging system, we’ve already had an increase in orders and will likely increase our production to two shifts and expand staff. At some point, we may build another building. It also puts us in a position to expand into the Frozen food market.”

Between Rounds has also invested in a new, larger delivery truck.

Wholesale Bagels
The family-owned Between Rounds has been in business for more than three decades and is the brainchild of brothers Jerry and Joseph Puiia, who are Staten Island, NY natives. The Puiia hallmark is manufacturing and selling their own bagels, which sets Between Rounds apart from other cafés.

Between Rounds signature bagels are consistent (and made from the same family recipe for over 30 years now) and meet their wholesale partners’ high-quality standards. All the bagels are locally-produced at Between Rounds state-of-the-art South Windsor, CT headquarters and are delivered fully baked to their wholesale partners.

Wholesale Partners
Between Rounds has wholesale partnerships with independent, family-owned and multi-location grocery retailers including Highland Park Market, Geissler’s Supermarket, Fitzgerald’s Foods, Ted’s IGA, ShopRite, Big Y and most recently Price Chopper/Market 32.

Their wholesale partnerships include innovative dairy delivery services such as The Modern Milkman based in Ellington, along with Dondero Orchards based in S. Glastonbury, and hospitality groups in Connecticut and Massachusetts.

For a listing of wholesale partner store locations, visit betweenroundsbagels.com/grocery-retailers/

Retailers interested in becoming a wholesale partner and offering fresh-baked, local products are encouraged to contact Jerry Puiia at (860) 291-8780.

Between Rounds Bakery Sandwich Café New Location in Bassdale Plaza, East Windsor CT

March 22, 2024 //  by admin

MANCHESTER, EAST WINDSOR, SOUTH WINDSOR, TOLLAND AND VERNON, CT…
Between Rounds Bakery Sandwich Café, the unique bagel shop and bakery café, has grown to five locations in Connecticut with the addition of their newest location in East Windsor at Bassdale Plaza.

Between Rounds is proud to announce their new location which is nestled inside Farm Town Gas Station at Bassdale Plaza, 148 North Road, East Windsor CT. The new location offers a “grab and go” limited menu which includes Between Rounds’ signature fresh bagels, cold cut sandwiches, fresh ground and brewed hot and iced coffee, lattes, cappuccino, cold brew, and frozen drinks.

Between Rounds’ East Windsor location is independently owned and operated by Bilal Ali, a resident of Vernon, CT. A seasoned business owner, Ali owns the Bassdale Plaza, the Farm Town Gas Station, a Krispy Krunchy Chicken location (also located within Farm Town Gas Station) and the In N Out Convenience store in East Windsor.

Ali was drawn to a Between Rounds franchise store after trying their bagels, which he found to be delicious and a very high-quality product. Mornings have become the busiest time at Farm Town Gas, as patrons stop in to pick up breakfast from Between Rounds. Ali noted that he’s currently working on integration with Door Dash and Grubhub, and his plans for the future include adding a Between Rounds drive-thru.

Ali’s sister-in-law, Bushra Mustafa of Vernon, manages the Between Rounds East Windsor location. She has also managed the Farm Town Gas Station since its inception nearly five years ago. Mustafa has significant business operations experience gained from managing Ali’s convenience store and gas stations for more than a decade.

Mustafa trained with Between Rounds franchisor, Jerry Puiia, and was impressed with the business model.

“This was a different experience for me. I ran the convenience store and gas stations for 10 years, but through Between Rounds training, learned new methods and key business tips,” explained Mustafa. “Between Rounds’ business model is great and it’s having a positive impact on the gas station business as well.”

Franchisor Jerry Puiia explained, “Ali and Bushra have significant retail ownership and management experience and they are a terrific fit for our organization. We’re thrilled about the new location at Farm Town Gas Station, which we feel will do very well. Patrons on the go can pick up their favorite Between Rounds bagels and coffee while they fill their gas tanks in the morning, and stop in to pick up Krispy Krunchy Chicken for lunch or dinner. Between Rounds and Krispy Krunchy Chicken locations are both inside the gas station and really complement each other.”

A grand opening ceremony for Between Rounds and Krispy Krunchy situated in the Farm Town Gas Station was held with East Windsor Chamber of Commerce, State Representative Carol Hall, East Windsor’s First Selectman Jason Bowsza and Selectman Keith Yagaloff in attendance.

Between Rounds East Windsor is open Monday – Saturday 5:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. and Sunday 6:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. For more information, call (860) 370-5108 or visit betweenroundsbagels.com.

Between Rounds Locations
The East Windsor location is Between Rounds’ second independently owned location within a gas station. The first is located at Citgo Express Gas Station on Merrow Road in Tolland. In addition to the East Windsor and Tolland gas station locations, Between Rounds has a Café (and corporate headquarters) in South Windsor, as well as Cafés in the Vernon Circle Shopping Center and at the Plaza at Buckland Hills in Manchester.

The family-owned Between Rounds has been in business for more than three decades and is the brainchild of brothers Jerry and Joseph Puiia, who are Staten Island, NY natives. The Puiia hallmark is manufacturing and selling their own bagels, which sets them apart from other cafés.

Puiia continued, “Between Rounds offers brand recognition, proven operations and plenty of training and support which is a recipe that ensures success.”

Franchise Opportunities
For those who are looking to be their own boss and take charge of their career, Between Rounds’ offers several different franchise opportunities, from a traditional store opportunity to Kiosk Gas Station and Convenience Market program to an Area Developer Program.

April 1, 2016 //  by admin

NamSense book IMG_0806Between Rounds Bakery Sandwich Café recently announced the launch of “Storytelling in the Round”, a new monthly program featuring readings by Connecticut’s own published (and aspiring) authors at their newly renovated Vernon store located at Vernon Circle Shopping Center, 243 Hartford Turnpike.

Arthur Wiknik, Jr., author of the brilliantly written Nam Sense: Surviving Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division, is Between Rounds’ first featured author scheduled to appear on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. In his book, Mr. Wiknik’s shares his account of life and death in Vietnam while serving as a combat squad leader in the 101st Airborne Division.

One Sunday a month from September to May, Storytelling in the Round puts the spotlight on a different local author. During these FREE one-hour events, an author reads an excerpt from their work, which is followed by a question and answer session and book signing. Attendees may purchase copies of the author’s book during the event or bring their own copies and have them signed by the author.

“Connecticut is home to so many wonderful authors. Storytelling in the Round gives both the author and the reader an opportunity to connect – right in their own backyard at their local Between Rounds café,” noted Jerry Puiia, co-founder of Between Rounds.

All Storytelling in the Round author appearances are arranged by Ron Farina, an author, nationally recognized speaker and veteran. Mr. Farina is the author of several short stories on Vietnam, including the award winning short story Unbreakable Embrace, published by the Pell Center for International Relations and Public Policy (2013).

For more information about future author events, email info@betweenroundsbagels.com.

Fast Casual Dining Franchise is Expanding – Between Rounds Announces Franchise Opportunities

February 23, 2016 //  by admin

Between Rounds 1 exteriorConsidering a career move? For anyone looking to begin a new chapter as a business owner in the fast casual dining segment – the fastest growing segment in the restaurant industry – Between Rounds Bakery Sandwich Café is now offering two different franchise opportunities.

With locations in South Windsor, Vernon, Manchester and Tolland, Between Rounds fast casual dining establishments have become the area’s favorite locale for fresh, baked-on site bagels and healthier, freshly prepared, high quality meals served in a clean, comfortable, upscale environment.

Two types of franchise opportunities are available: a Kiosk Gas Station/Convenience Market program and an Area Developer Program.

The Kiosk Gas Station/Convenience Market franchise is a non-traditional convenience store/gas station model that offers gas station customers the ability to purchase Between Rounds specialty coffee, fresh made breakfast and lunch sandwiches, fresh baked bagels and assorted bakery items from a clean, well-designed store adjacent to the filling station. The kiosk store has low start-up costs and requires an overall investment of approximately $120K for a standard store with no drive-thru.

The Area Developer Program is unique in its franchise offering, as it encompasses the operation of three retail bakery sandwich café locations as well as a manufacturing commissary in a protected territory. This development strategy allows the franchisee to maximize efficiencies in labor, food, and energy costs while providing a solid investment return.

Off to a Successful Start

Between Rounds helps franchisees start off successfully with site location, construction assistance and extensive staff training prior to opening and after the launch. Every detail regarding safe, clean and successful food service is reviewed and demonstrated. Between Rounds corporate ensures there are field representatives on hand to work with your staff, and once the store is operating smoothly, they continue to offer organizational support and guidelines for successful programs.

According to Between Rounds  co-founder and franchisor, Jerry Puiia, “Fast Casual Dining is the fastest growing segment in the restaurant industry. We are always looking out for new franchise locations and the right people to run it. It’s an ideal time for franchisees in the fast casual market.”

Between Rounds is family owned and operated in Connecticut since 1990. Unlike their competitors that require high initial investment and multiple franchises, the Between Rounds Kiosk Gas Station/Convenience Market opportunity is a reasonable initial investment with no minimum number of franchises required. The company has also secured three financing companies, Benetrends, FranchiseLeasing.com and The Stratford Group, to help new franchisees with financing of KioskGas Station/Convenience Marketoperations.

Puiia continued, “A Between Rounds franchise offers the appeal of a locally-owned, community gathering place; the quality of freshly made bagels and other baked goods, sandwiches, wraps, soups, salads, and specialty coffees; and excellent unit financial performance and wholesale distribution opportunities.”

Between Rounds Bakery Sandwich Café Announces New Fundraising Program

December 2, 2015 //  by admin

BR Logo from Andy smallBetween Rounds Bakery Sandwich Café, the unique bakery café and bagel shop with four locations in Connecticut, has recently announced their unique Between Rounds Fundraising Program.

The Between Rounds Fundraising Program simplifies the fundraising process for youth athletic teams, schools, theaters and other groups. Essentially, Between Rounds designates a specific week where a portion of sales goes directly to the fundraising group.

How it Works

The team or group leader makes arrangements with Between Rounds’ corporate office for a fundraising week. The team/group leader is provided with a Between Rounds Fundraiser Week Flyer (PDF), which they are able to share with supporters as handouts or via email and social media.

Supporters spend a minimum of $10 on food/beverages at any Between Rounds location during the scheduled fundraiser week, and Between Rounds donates $1 per sale to the team/group.

The Between Rounds Fundraiser Week Flyer must be presented at time of purchase to ensure that a portion of the supporter’s purchase goes to the appropriate team/group.

“This is an innovative way to raise funds for your team, group, or school,” said Jerry Puiia, co-founder of Between Rounds. “Our program is easy to implement, and easy to promote via social media.”

For more information, contact Jerry Puiia of Between Rounds 860-291-0323.
