Run for Faith makes a “splash” in Year Two—without the hurricane

August 21, 2012 //  by admin

Nearly 300 people participated in the second annual Run for Faith 4-Miler on August 19. The race, which is run to help raise funds for local charities and ovarian cancer research, is run in the memory of Faith “Marcy” Romboldi. Mrs. Romboldi lost her battle with ovarian cancer in 2010. PLYMOUTH, MA…

When your first effort at a road race coincides with the beginning of a hurricane as it did last year for the first Run for Faith, you say more than a few prayers for good weather for year two. For the organizers and participants, those prayers were answered and then some with a sunny day and comfortable running temperatures, as nearly 300 participated in the second annual Run for Faith 4-miler.

“Mom was certainly looking down on us this year, as we could not have asked for a better day,” said Matthew Romboldi, Run for Faith race director and son of Faith “Marcy” Romboldi. Mrs. Romboldi, in whose memory the race is held, died from ovarian cancer in 2010. “We are delighted by the turnout and, of course, the weather and we saw some pretty good times by our winners.”

Brian McCarthy of Plymouth won the Men’s’ Division with a time of 25:10. Christina Hall, also of Plymouth, was the top female runner with a time of 27:30. Melissa Mearer of Pocasset won the first-ever Stroller Division with a time of 42:40.

“We have tried to make the Run for Faith very family-oriented because that’s what Marcy was all about—family,” said Nicole Romboldi, the wife of Matthew Romboldi. “Having the Stroller Division made this an extra special event and we hope to grow the Stroller Division even more for next year.”

Those who took part in the first-ever Stroller Division include:

  • Daniel Shea, Scituate, MA
  • Anna Shea, Scituate, MA
  • Litza Romboldi, Plymouth, MA
  • Nanci Dewey, Plymouth, MA
  • Katy Valentine, Plymouth, MA
  • Rusty Romboldi, Plymouth, MA
  • Vincenza Amara, Plymouth, MA
  • Priscilla Pinto, Plymouth, MA
  • Sara Denocourt, Plymouth, MA
  • Kim Carreira, Plymouth, MA
  • Tracey Murphy, Plymouth, MA

The Run for Faith is organized by Run for Faith, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and the proceeds from the race help raise money for several Plymouth non-profits and charitable organizations. The first Run for Faith raised enough for a $5,000 donation to Dana Farber’s  Yaw key Center for Cancer Care and ovarian cancer research. The Run for Faith also contributed two $2500 scholarships for two Plymouth high school students: Graham Allen from Plymouth South High School and Nathan Fuller from Plymouth North High School.

“The excellent turnout means we can make even more of an impact with our donations, both in scholarships and donations to local charities and ovarian cancer research,” said Romboldi. “We’d like to thank all those who ran and our sponsors for making this a successful event.”

The 2012 Run for Faith was sponsored by a number of local businesses, including Nolan Schelle Insurance, Marty’s GMC, Liddell Brothers Traffic Safety Systems, Cape Auto, 99.1 WPLM, Mayflower Food & Spirits, Powderhorn Press, Pilgrim Belle Harbor Cruises, Plimouth Plantation, Girls on the Go, Newfield House, Stevens the Florist, Lee Sirricco Landscaping, Cold Spring Club, Unity Club, and Mama Mia’s, and Ziggy’s Ice Cream.

Individuals or businesses looking to make a donation to this year’s Run for Faith, or sponsor next year’s Run for Faith, can e-mail info@runforfaithplymouth.org or call 508-400-0751. For complete information on the Run for Faith, visit www.runforfaithplymouth.org.
