Rodman CPAs Staff Steps Up for Newton Food Pantry

Rodman CPAs of Waltham, MA, a full service tax and accounting firm serving small and mid-sized emerging and established businesses throughout the greater Boston area, donated several boxes of food to the Newton Food Pantry just prior to Thanksgiving.

In a company-wide food drive held among 33 staff members in November, Rodman CPAs were able to fill several large boxes with canned and dry food donations.

This is the third year that Rodman CPAs has collected donations for the Newton Food Pantry. Prior to the firm’s move to Waltham, Rodman CPAs was located in Newton for more than 20 years, and Steve Rodman, president, was a resident of Newton before to moving to Watertown in November.

Giving Back
Community outreach is woven into Rodman CPAs’ company culture. The firm has a dedicated volunteer outreach team and every staff member has an opportunity to volunteer. Over the years, Rodman CPAs team has supported a number of organizations and causes including the American Diabetes Association, Hope and Comfort, Camp Clark, Rosie’s Place, Cradles to Crayons, and The Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE).

New Baker At Between Rounds Bakery Sandwich Café in Vernon, CT

Between Rounds Bakery Sandwich Café, a growing fast casual dining establishment and wholesale bagel supplier, has appointed Karen Ball as Baker in their Vernon location.

In her new role as full time baker, Ball will be responsible for baking bagels, rolls, breads and a variety of pastries and desserts on a daily basis for Between Rounds located in the Vernon Circle Shopping Center.

Ball has a passion for the food industry and decades of experience. After graduating from Manchester High School, she completed a one-year cooking and baking program at Manchester Community College. Over the years she has held a number of different roles in the supermarket, baking and restaurant sectors, which included eight years as wait staff at Frank’s Restaurant in Hartford. She then embarked on a 28-year career in the food vending industry, working for Food Pro in South Windsor for 21 years, followed by Quality Foods in Bristol for seven years where she serviced food, snack, coffee and soda vending machines for hospitals, nursing homes and other organizations throughout her Western Massachusetts route.

Old Colony Elder Services’ employees hold drive to help those in need in Brockton and Plymouth

Old Colony Elder Services (OCES), the non-profit agency proudly serving older adults and individuals with disabilities throughout greater Plymouth County and surrounding communities, are helping to support those who are experiencing homelessness this holiday season.

Led by OCES’ Protective Services (PS) and Money Management Program (MMP) team, OCES staff collected donations of socks and personal care items in an employee outreach drive held at OCES’ Brockton and Plymouth offices. The donations were delivered to MainSpring House shelters located at 54 North Main Street in Brockton and their new location on South Spooner Street in Plymouth.

“Each year, our Protective Services and Money Management Program team holds a drive to collect needed items for individuals experiencing homelessness in our community,” explained Teresa Kourtz, LSW, PS/MMP Director, who led the drive. “There are a number of people facing uncertain circumstances who are in need of emergency shelter. We strive to help by providing personal care necessities to those who don’t have ready access to these items.”

Between Rounds Bakery Sandwich Café, a growing fast-casual dining establishment and wholesale bagel supplier, has announced a new bagel partnership with Ted’s IGA, located at 127 Main Street in Hebron, CT.

Between Rounds Bakery Sandwich Café has been supplying their signature bagels to independent grocers throughout Connecticut and has recently contracted with Ted’s Supermarket to supply Between Rounds signature bagels to the store’s gourmet bakery department.

Family-owned Between Rounds has been in business for more than two decades and is the brainchild of the Puiia brothers, who are Staten Island, NY natives. Between Rounds locations include South Windsor (Route 5); Vernon (at Vernon Circle Shopping Center); Manchester (Plaza at Buckland Hills); and Tolland (adjacent to Citgo Express Gas at 206 Merrow Road).

The Puiia hallmark is manufacturing and selling their own bagels, which sets them apart from other cafés. The popularity of their bagels inspired the Puiias to partner with independent grocers. The bagels are delivered to grocers fully baked so no additional labor is required of the bakery department.

Ted’s is an independently owned supermarket known for their extraordinary quality, service and competitive pricing. The fourth generation is now working at Ted’s – Todge’s daughter Jennifer works in customer service and David’s son Steven is a baker in their bakery department.

OCES Celebrates the New Year with Special Meals at Community Dining Sites

Throughout January, Old Colony Elder Services (OCES), the non-profit agency proudly serving older adults and individuals with disabilities throughout greater Plymouth County and surrounding communities, offers special meals at several community dining sites in celebration of the New Year.

OCES will offer a delicious New Year’s meal featuring chicken breast with spinach and red pepper, white rice, parsley carrots, herbed garlic dinner roll, snowflake cookie (or special diet cookie) at the following community dining sites:

-On January 2, 2018 at noon at the Kingston Council on Aging (COA) dining site, 30 Evergreen Street, Kingston, MA 02364.
-On January 4, 2018 at noon at the Halifax COA dining site, 506 Plymouth Street, Halifax MA 02338.
-On January 16, 2018 at noon at the Brockton COA dining site in the Mary Cruise Kennedy Senior Center, 10 Father Kenney Way, Brockton, MA 02301.

On January 11, 2018, a “Just-like-Thanksgiving-Day Special” of roast turkey breast, giblet gravy, savory stuffing, cranberry sauce, whipped potatoes, seasoned peas, carrots and corn medley, corn bread and apple pie (or diet cinnamon baked apple slices) will be offered at Campello Hi-Rise community dining site in Brockton, MA 02301.

On January 24, 2018, “A Taste of Italy” special meal of cannelloni cheese pasta with white sauce, cauliflower and zucchini, baked tomato half, scali bread, Amaretto mousse with topping (or diet Amaretto mousse) will be offered at the Wareham COA dining site located at 48 Marion Road, Wareham, MA 02571.

On January 25, 2018, a special “Traveling Chef Carving of the Day” meal of roast turkey with gravy, savory stuffing, whipped potatoes, vegetable medley, cranberry sauce, snowflake dinner roll and chocolate éclair will be offered at the Whitman COA, 16 Hayden Avenue, Whitman, MA 02382.

Reservations are required and may be made by calling each town’s COA directly.

Daily Meals at Community Dining Sites
OCES’ community dining sites provide hot, nutritious noontime meals Monday through Friday to adults age 60+ and individuals with disabilities under the age of 60. Meals are planned by a nutritionist and meet one-third of the Recommended Daily Allowance for major nutrients. The meals do not include high sodium foods and no salt is added. Low-fat milk is provided.

OCES is a registered charitable organization at AmazonSmile. Discovery Map International partners with POI of Slovenia launch Discover POI

WAITSFIELD, VT and LJUBLJANA, SLOVENIA…

Discovery Map International (DMI), the leading provider of curated maps and online guides to top tourist attractions, cities and towns throughout North America, recently partnered with POI (Points of Interest) of Slovenia—owner and operator of 16 maps across Slovenia–to form Discovery P.O.I. The new company will continue to franchise map locations across Slovenia and into neighboring countries across Europe.

After several substantive conversations, Hans visited Slovenia to see POI’s operation in person. The rest, as they say, is history.

“Some things just make sense and our partnership with POI is one of them,” said Peter Hans. Given the markets Iztok and Mark were looking to target initially—specifically the ski and resort areas in the nearby Austria and Italian borders — I felt with our support and the system DMI can offer things could really take off.  Like I said, it just made sense to make this deal happen.”

Discovery POI’s offices are located in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Slovenia borders Italy to the west and Austria to the north.

“We are very pleased with this partnership agreement to form Discovery POI.

Peter and his team have quite a bit of experience in this industry and the maps speak for themselves,” said Cerv. “With our combined experience as map makers and franchisors, we have an offering and a support base that will be very attractive to potential franchise owners.”

OCES has planned a delicious “Holiday Special” featuring Chicken Cordon Bleu, baked potato and sour cream, peas and mushrooms, snowflake dinner roll along with chocolate éclairs (or diet white chocolate mousse with topping) for dessert.  The Holiday Special will be offered at the following community dining sites:

On December 14, 2017 at noon at the Halifax Council on Aging (COA) dining site at 506 Plymouth Street, Halifax, MA 02338.

On December 20, 2017 at noon at the Easton COA dining site at Frothingham Hall Community Center, 15 Barrows Street, North Easton 02356.

On December 21, 2017 at noon at the Brockton COA dining site in the Mary Cruise Kennedy Senior Center, 10 Father Kenney Way, Brockton, MA 02301.

A special “Traveling Chef Carving of the Day” holiday meal will be offered at the Wareham COA on December 20, 2017 at 11:30 a.m., and will feature Roast beef au jus, Au Gratin potatoes, Green Bean Almandine and chocolate fudge cake. The dining site is located at 48 Marion Road, Wareham, MA 02571.

Reservations are required and may be made by calling each town’s COA directly.

Daily Meals at Community Dining Sites

OCES’ community dining sites provide hot, nutritious noontime meals Monday through Friday to adults age 60+ and individuals with disabilities under the age of 60. Meals are planned by a nutritionist and meet one-third of the Recommended Daily Allowance for major nutrients. The meals do not include high sodium foods and no salt is added. Low-fat milk is provided.
