April 25, 2023 //  by admin

BROCKTON, AND PLYMOUTH, MA…More than 75 Belair residents attended the “March for Meals” Caribbean lunch at Belair Tower in Brockton, where meals were served by special guests Senator Michael Brady, Mayor Robert Sullivan from the City of Brockton and Minhtram Tran, Chief Legal Counsel for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion from the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.

The luncheon, held in March and led by the Nutrition Team at Old Colony Elder Services (OCES) of Brockton, put the focus on the Meals on Wheels and Community Dining Program by directly sharing the impact of the nutritious meals locally. The event highlighted the significance of funding for the program in order to maintain and expand the program for consumers facing food insecurity.

March for Meals is part of Meals on Wheels America’s national campaign. The month of March is when the Meals on Wheels network joins forces to celebrate “March for Meals” which recognizes the historic day in March of 1972 when President Nixon signed into law a measure that amended the Older Americans Act (OAA) of 1965 to include a national nutrition program for seniors 60 years and older. For more than 50 years, the OAA has been the foundational source of federal funding for senior nutrition programs across the country, which collectively delivers more than 247 million meals to 2.8 million seniors annually.

Meals on Wheels is part of OCES’ Nutrition Program. OCES has over 550 volunteers in their Nutrition Program delivering over 2,000 “Meals on Wheels” nutritious meals a day to homebound recipients living within 23 communities in greater Plymouth County. In May, the Nutrition Program will launch a pilot to offer home delivered Caribbean meals in Brockton.

Plymouth Solar Energy takes Drone services to new heights.

April 3, 2023 //  by admin

Plymouth Solar Energy’s new licensed drone operation makes research, planning and service faster, more efficient and safer.

The FAA pilot’s license for unmanned aircraft earned by Plymouth Solar Energy’s Fred Paris, solar energy pioneer and a respected industry expert, takes the company to new heights.

Plymouth Solar Energy started with simple with drones, occasionally using one to take photos of rooftops. For commercial rooftop assessments, they found that a drone was accurate, safer, and quicker, in gathering rooftop measurements around stacks, vents, air conditioners, and other rooftop mechanical systems.

To do anything more than simple photos, the company had to hire a drone service or gain an FAA pilot’s license for unmanned aircraft. Having the license would allow the company to fly better technology and develop in-house mapping applications. For maintenance services, a drone with infrared lens could be used to spot solar panel hot spots, avoiding costly downtime.

“We envision the day when we can send a drone from our office to a solar site miles away for a full video reconnaissance,” notes Paris. And he added, smiling, “given that our commercial drone license allows us to carry more than 20 pounds, parts delivery is only the ‘bureaucracy’ away.”

Plymouth Solar Energy (PlymouthSolarEnergy.com ) is a regional leader in the installation and maintenance of commercial and residential solar and battery systems. The company boasts over 200 installed and on-line monitored solar systems within 50 miles of Plymouth.

A lifelong environmentalist and recognized solar energy expert, Paris launched the Wind Sun Institute – the predecessor of Plymouth Solar Energy – to serve as a technical trainer to solar manufacturers. This evolved to teaching solar energy commercially across the U. S. including at Babson College. Paris taught Strategic Planning at Northeastern University, and wrote the solar curriculum for national certification ‘NABCEP’ classes at Massasoit Community College. Paris started Plymouth Solar Energy with Massasoit students. For more info, visit www.PlymouthSolarEnergy.com or call (508) 746-5430 or email info@plymouthsolarenergy.com

Emerson Bearing Shares Tips on How to Protect and Maintain Your Bearings

March 31, 2023 //  by admin

Emerson Bearing, a Boston, MA-based bearing company catering to niche markets nationwide and the sister company of Action Bearing which serves the New England market, shares tips on how to protect and maintain bearings.

Bearing longevity and efficiency depend on how well you maintain them. Even quality bearings can quickly wear or (worse) completely fail prior to their predicted B10 life if not properly maintained.

You can adopt various measures to ensure that your bearings provide the highest services and last as long as possible. Some of these measures include:

Selecting the correct bearing. It is imperative to select a bearing size that matches the capacity requirements of the application.

Bearing lubrication to minimize friction and prevent wear, tear, and corrosion. The most common cause of bearing failure is improper lubrication. To ensure the bearing performs as intended throughout its service life, lubrication must be applied according to guidelines. Using the right type and amount of lubricant is key.

Inspecting the bearing for any physical damage or indication of wear.

Using a shaft grounding device to avoid damage to the bearings and protect them from circulating currents.

Steve Katz, president of Emerson Bearing explained, “In standard applications, a bearing will most often successfully reach its predicted ‘B10 life’, which is known as the point at which 10 percent of a given bearing product is expected to fail. In applications with severe environments such as food manufacturing and processing, bearings are statistically more likely to fail.”

Selecting the appropriate bearing for the application and maintaining it properly greatly reduces the risk of unexpected bearing failure which can lead to unexpected downtime, lowered productivity, and ultimately, profit loss.

To request a specification sheet which covers the performance of different bearing types with regard to load, accuracy, speed, noise and friction, contact Emerson Bearing at 800-225-4587.
