One for the ride…Todson ups the ante in third consecutive year as corporate sponsor for May Institute’s Rodman Ride for Kids team

September 8, 2011 //  by admin

 NORTH ATTLEBORO, MASS…

They say the third time is a charm. Todson, Inc., distributor of Topeak bicycle accessories and OnGuard Locks, took that to heart. In its third year as a corporate sponsor for the May Institute’s 2010 Rodman Ride for Kids team, the North Attleboro-based company increased its sponsorship to $9,000 from the $5,000 it donated each of the previous two years.

In addition to its financial contribution, five Todson staffers rode as part of the May Institute’s team in the 2010 Rodman Ride for Kids last September. The Ride, now in its 21st year, offers a 25-, 50-, or 100-mile non-competitive cycling tour to raise funds for a wide variety of children’s social service agencies across Massachusetts. The May Institute, which serves children and adults with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities, brain injury, mental illness and behavioral healthcare needs, has been an affiliate of the Rodman Ride for Kids for the past six years.

“The economy has not been kind to many of these non-profits. That makes the contributions from the Rodman Ride for Kids even more vital,” said Neal Todrys, president and CEO of Todson, Inc. “We’re happy to step up our contribution and participate in this tremendous event that helps very worthy non-profits like the May Institute continue the good work they do.”

Since its founding in 1955, May Institute has evolved into a national network that serves over 25,000 individuals and their families annually. With corporate headquarters in Randolph, Mass., the Institute operates more than 200 service locations in the Northeast, Southeast, and on the West Coast.

Since its inception in 1991, the Rodman Ride for Kids has raised more than $52 million to help children across Massachusetts. The 2010 Rodman Ride for Kids raised $8.1 million.

“Todson’s contribution to the May Institute team goes beyond writing a check,” said Heidi Howard, May Institute’s Chief of Strategic Development. “They are committed to the cause in so many ways and we’re extremely grateful to their staff for being teammates on the 2010 Ride.”

NORTH ATTLEBORO, MASS…

For the fourth consecutive year, North Attleboro-based Todson, Inc., distributor of Topeak bicycle accessories and OnGuard Locks, sponsored the May Institute’s Rodman Ride team.

In addition to Todson contributing $5,000 towards the May Institute’s donation, Todson staff joined the Institute’s team and the more than 1,000 riders who participated in this year’s Ride–which included a  25-, 50-, or 100-mile non-competitive cycling tour to raise funds for a wide variety of children’s social service agencies across Massachusetts. Todson also donated a bicycle and Red Sox tickets to the Rodman’s Ride raffle.

“The May Institute is a non-profit that’s near and dear to our hearts here at Todson. So as a distributor of cycling accessories, it’s an absolute no-brainer that we participate as part of the Institute’s Rodman team,” said Todson President and CEO Neal Todrys, who completed 25 miles for his part in the Rodman Ride. “Having participated in the Ride for several years, it’s gratifying to see how it’s grown because that means even more charities and non-profits across Massachusetts are benefitting.”

The May Institute is one of those non-profits. The May Institute serves children and adults with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities, brain injury, mental illness and behavioral healthcare needs. Since its founding 55 years ago, May Institute has evolved into a national network that serves more than 25,000 individuals and their families annually. With corporate headquarters in Randolph, Mass., the Institute operates more than 200 service locations in the Northeast, Southeast, and on the West Coast.

“One hundred percent of the funds will directly benefit the estimated 16,000 children in New England who receive services from May Institute,” said Heidi Howard, M.P.A., Chief of Business Development. “We are extremely grateful to the Rodman Ride for helping us make a difference in the lives of the children we serve.”

Since its inception in 1991, the Rodman Ride for Kids has raised more than $44 million to help children across Massachusetts. That figures includes a whopping $7.2 million raised by the 2009 ride. The Rodman Ride is accepting donations until November 30, 2010 before issuing a final total for the year.

Persons or companies looking to donate to the Rodman Ride on behalf of The May Institute can contact Dana Pellitteri at dellitteri@mayinstitute.org. To donate directly to the Rodman Ride, visit www.rodmanrideforkids.org.

The air down there…Todson brings Topeak’s CO2 Bra Race Pod to U.S. market.

May 6, 2010 //  by admin

NORTH ATTLEBORO, MASS…

Besides a flat, nothing puts a damper on a brisk afternoon of cycling than having to stop and put air in your tires. What makes the task even more burdensome is finding a place for your pump and other tools that: (a.) don’t get in the way and (b) sufficiently fill your tires. Topeak’s CO2 Bra Race Pod fills the bill on both counts.

Equipped with Velcro straps, the Race Pod’s compact body (5.5” x 2.5” x 2.2”; .59 lb.) adheres neatly and securely to your bike seat post. The Pod also comes equipped with an efficient air supply and inflation system in the form of Topeak’s reddot design award-winning CO2 Bra CO2 inflator, complete with two threaded CO2 cartridges.

“The beauty of the Race Pod is that it is so compact, you can strap it on to your bike seat post and you really don’t know it’s there until you actually need it,” said Neal Todrys, president of Todson Inc, Topeak’s U.S. distributor. “Because it comes with two CO2 cartridges, you always have more than adequate air supply.”

The CO2 Bra CO2 Inflator features:

  • Ergonomic handle that fits comfortably in hand for a better grip while inflating.
  • Flip-up thumb lever to allow precise flow control
  • Visual pressure indicator to tell you when cartridge is ready to inflate
  • Safety ring to prevent accidental puncture during transport
  • CO2 cartridge head works with both Presta and Schrader vales and features integrated dust cap

In addition to the inflator and cartridges, the Race Pod includes two tire levers made from engineering grade plastic. Ergonomically shaped to fit comfortably in your hand, the two levers snap together for easy storage in the Race Pod.

“With the Race Pod, you can inflate your times much like you would at a service station—without pumping—and without the inconvenience of having to carry a tool kit or pump in your backpack or other storage area,” said Todrys.

Topeak receives four prestigious red dot awards for product design

March 19, 2010 //  by admin

NORTH ATTLEBORO, MASS AND TAICHUNG, TAIWAN…

Todson, Inc., the U.S. distributor for Topeak bike products, recently announced that Topeak had won four prestigious red dot awards for 2010, including one “Best of the Best” distinction for the MegaMorph™ compact floor pump. Three red dot product design awards were awarded for the AirBackpack, RaceRocket mini pump and Mini 20 Pro tool.

The red dot design award, held by the Design Centre of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany since 1955, is one of the biggest and most renowned design competitions in the world. This year’s competition evaluated 4252 products from 1,636 companies from 57 countries in three disciplines: “red dot award: product design”; “red dot award: communication design”. In the end, only the very best from the field of top-class participants are selected for the award.

“You can call it the Academy Award for designers and it still would be a bit of an understatement in describing what it means to win a red dot design award,” said Neal Todrys, president of Todson, Inc. “Topeak has always led the field in bringing innovation to cycling accessories. Winning these four awards is a testimony to how innovative some of Topeak’s products actually are.”

Here’s a little information about the winners:

Red dot “Best of the Best”: MegaMorph™ – The newest of the award-winning

Morph family of pumps, the MegaMorph is an innovative, highly-portable, folding floor pump for cyclists who want the most compact floor pump. Every design detail of the new MegaMorph has been streamlined to produce a minimized profile when

folded. Utilizing the same high-performance barrel as Topeak’s JoeBlow™ line of floor pumps, the MegaMorph pumps to 160 psi to fill road and mountain bike tires fast and features a padded handle, top-mounted fold-out analog gauge, SmartHead™ all-valve hose head, 360-degree swiveling hose and a fold-out footpad.

Red dot award; AirBackpack – Unlike typical cycling packs that use heavy foam padding for comfort and rigid plastic for structural stability, the new Air BackPack features lightweight, multi-channel air chambers located in the hip belt and back contact area to provide tunable comfort and rigid pack support. The internal air chambers are pressurized with an integrated micro pump and release valve which fold into the hip belt, allowing the wearer to make fine adjustments while on the go. These full-length, deeply channeled air chambers also aid in cooling the rider by drawing a continuous airflow across the back area.

The Air Backpack weighs only 675 grams and folds to a compact size for storage or travel. With space for a hydration bladder, tools, pump, clothing and more this ingenious pack makes mountain biking more enjoyable.

Red dot award; Race Rocket MasterBlaster – Intelligently designed to provide maximum performance, this incredibly powerful mini pump inflates up to 140 psi in one single action. To meet the needs of road and mountain bikers, Race Rocket MasterBlaster and its innovative SmartHead ThreadLock accepts Presta and Schrader valves and extends on a flexible hose – taking pressure off the valve stem when filling a tire. And to top it off, the RaceRocket is tiny in size and easily slips into a jersey pocket or saddle bag.

Red dot award; Mini 20 Pro – Topeak has taken the common cyclist’s multi tool and turned it into a mechanical work of art. This 20- function wonder contains all the tools a mountain biker could ever need wrapped in a high-strength alloy body. The professional quality, hardened steel tools resist wear and tear while the integrated cast CrMo chain tool makes quick work of any drive train repair. The Mini 20 fits in its own neoprene pouch.

“It is truly an honor to receive four red dot awards and it is especially exciting to be presented with a “Best of the Best” award for our new MegaMorph pump,” says Topeak President Louis Chuang. “Our in-house design team is very proud to have their ideas recognized by this international design award and confirms their commitment to the highest level of innovative design and quality.”

Taking the Beltway by bike…Todson attends national Bike Summit in Washington D.C.

March 16, 2010 //  by admin

 NORTH ATTLEBORO, MASS…

Imagine a bike path extending from coast to coast, much like Interstate 95. Or legions of commuters, sick of bumper-to-bumper traffic, abandoning their automobiles to travel to work by bicycle. These are just a few of the items more than 700 bicycle advocates, including Todson Event Director Dorothy Nichols, discussed with legislators and executive branch members during the 2010 National Bike Summit.

The 10th annual meeting, this year’s summit, took place from March 9 to March 11, carried perhaps even more weight as Congress and federal agencies set goals and national targets for 2020.

“Congress is in the process of writing transportation, climate, health care, natural resources and other critical pieces of legislation that will shape our future,” said Dorothy Nichols, event director for Todson, Inc., the U.S. distributor for Topeak bike products. “We’re here to let our voice be heard that bicycling must be prominently featured in these important pieces of legislation, documents, funding streams and programs.”

As part of the three-day Summit, Nichols and other representatives met with several lawmakers and federal agency leadership members, including Department of the Interior Director Ken Salazar, newly elected Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown and legislators from Colorado.

The Bike Summit wasn’t all work. Summit attendees also took part on a short ride of our Nation’s capital and a local bike trail.

“It’s really amazing to see how the National Bike Summit has grown in 10 years,” said Neal Todrys, president of Todson, Inc. “Nowadays, many people talk about being greener but bicyclists figuratively walk the talk and that voice does carry some weight with our legislators and other government officials.

Oh baby, what a bicycle seat…Topeak’s Baby Seat II offers superior safety and ease of use.

March 2, 2010 //  by admin

NORTH ATTLEBORO, MASS…

When it comes to taking your child out for a ride on your bicycle, you always want to err on the side of caution. With many child bicycle seats, however, you can spend more time setting up and adjusting the seat—and then removing it—than time out on the road. And even then you’re not always certain of how safe the seat is. Topeak’s newest child seat, BabySeat™ II, installs and removes in seconds, while offering a six-point harness for the utmost in child safety.

Baby Seat II’s other safety features include a new wrap around seat design with integrated roll bar that creates a cocoon of protection. In addition, BabySeat II features a  suspension system between the seat and the rack that helps isolate children from bumps and jolts—and that creates a more pleasurable ride for grownups and kids.

“When it comes to taking your child out for a ride, your number one priority is their safety,” said Neal Todrys, president of Todson, Inc, Topeak’s U.S. distributor.

“To that end, the BabySeat II has passed the most stringent European and Japanese safety standards,”

The BabySeat II includes a tubular aluminum rack, which is disc brake compatible, and features fast and easy BabySeat removal. That makes transitioning from a bike ride with your child to running a few errands an activity that literally takes seconds.

Adds Todrys, “Like a number of Topeak’s products, the BabySeat II works with Topeak’s quick trac system. So, removing the seat and snapping on Topeak’s Trolley Tote, wire baskets or any other bags takes a matter of seconds, too.”

Light in weight (6.9 lbs), BabySeat II is molded from sturdy, engineering grade plastic and can hold a child up to 48 pounds—larger than your average pre-schooler. With dimensions of 23” x 15 ½” x 30 ½” and adjustable foot rests with straps, the BabySeat II can also safely accommodate most of the taller pre-schoolers as well.

“When cycling is your passion, it’s difficult to just put it aside once you start a family. With the BabySeat II, you really don’t have to,” said Todrys. “With the BabySeat II, you can safely introduce your child to cycling without the fuss.
