Waltham Based CPA Firm Rebrands and Announces New Name and Logo

June 28, 2016 //  by admin

RodmanCPAs Partners_MG_1692 copyThe Waltham, MA-based full service tax and accounting firm known as Rodman & Rodman P.C. has rebranded and officially announced their new company name, Rodman CPAs, and unveiled a new firm graphic identity.

The firm has rebranded to better reflect the firm’s growth, expertise, and comprehensive accounting and tax solutions for clients in a range of industries, including alternative energy.

Steve Rodman CPA, MST, the firm’s president, and partners Kathy Parker CPA, MST and Tom Astore CPA, JD, engaged the marketing and branding expertise of Hailer Marketing Associates and Paris Design to assist with refreshing the firm’s brand.

Initially, the Rodman team was simply looking to update their website after relocating from Newton (where they had been located for two decades) to University Office Park in Waltham. The new 8,500 square foot Waltham office nearly doubled the firm’s space and supported Rodman CPAs’ growth, while enabling them to expand their offerings and provide on-site educational and networking capabilities.

The decision to rebrand came about from a perceived need to reposition Rodman CPAs in the general marketplace – which encompassed the firm’s name change, a better definition of their scope of services, updated messaging, and the development of brand pillars and a positioning statement. All which is reflected through the new name, graphic identity, taglines, collateral, and (soon to be launched) new website.

“One of the first things that we discovered in this process was that no one referred to the firm as Rodman & Rodman P.C. The name by which they were already known and referred to in the industry was Rodman CPAs,” explained Elizabeth Hailer, who managed the rebrand project. “The relocation provided a great opportunity for the firm to transform the new space with the new brand.”

In phase one of the rebrand process, Hailer Marketing reviewed Rodman CPAs’ key priorities and conducted independent research on their market and brand, which included surveying several  constituents as well as key stakeholders. A competitive analysis and internal business strategy and assessment were completed. Phase two of the process involved developing the brand pillars, messaging and positioning statement based on the data, and collaborating with Paris Design in the build out of the firm’s identity and visuals to communicate the brand.

Rodman-Logo-DigitalThe firm’s newly designed “Rodman CPAs” graphic identity represents change and growth, while highlighting their focus on alternative energy. The “O” in Rodman uses a simple, yet refined visual that is not only memorable, but reflects how the firm helps clients perform and succeed during each stage of their business lifecycle, as does the logo tagline “Collaborative Approach. Practical Advice.”

“The process of rebranding, which involved an in-depth analysis of our goals, messaging and company culture, has taken us full circle and set us on our future path. Our enhanced brand reflects our commitment to being a strategic partner to our clients through a collaborative approach and practical advice,” explained Steve Rodman.

Marshfield CPA Talks Taxes on WATD

March 17, 2016 //  by admin

John Topham CPA
John Topham CPA

John Topham, CPA, a founding partner of Damon, Topham & Company, tax specialists based in Marshfield, MA, recently co-hosted on Attorney Mark Greene’s “So What About That Law!” show on WATD 95.9 FM and shared timely tax tips with the audience.

On the fourth Sunday of every month, Topham discusses a wide range of tax related topics with Greene, who is Principal Attorney at Mark Greene & Associates Attorneys & Family Counselors of Hanover, MA.
Below, Topham shares timely tax filing tips:
Beware of tax scam telephone calls and emails from those claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service. These scammers may be very convincing and may even have your personal information such as the last four of your social security number and birthdate. Do not give out or confirm any personal information. Hang up immediately.
Be aware that tax laws are always changing from year to year (and the IRS’ 2015 Tax Guide – Publication 17 is 288 pages long). If a taxpayer is preparing his own tax return, then he should make sure he is aware of any changes.
Taxpayers filing electronically should make sure it is done over a secure portal.
This year’s filing deadline is April 19, 2016. Make every effort to file on time. One advantage to filing on time is that the statue of limitations on the IRS auditing you begins once you file. After three years, the return is closed (unless it’s fraud or beyond the normal audit procedure).
Taxpayers have until April 19, 2016 to contribute to an IRA for 2015. However, make sure that the contribution is coded (by the institution) for 2015; otherwise it is applied as a 2016 contribution.
Be sure to retrieve pertinent documents online from issuers, including 1098T for college students; 1099s for independent contractors; as well as any interest statements from financial institutions.
Those who owe tax and need an Extension of time to file their return, may file for an extension, but MUST also make a tax payment (which should be estimated by the taxpayer’s accountant) in order to avoid an underpayment penalty.
Those who are unable to make a payment should still file their return ON TIME in order to avoid a late filing penalty. If you fail to file on time and fail to make a payment, you will incur penalties for both late filing and underpayment.
The IRS ONLY contacts taxpayers by MAIL. To learn more about tax scams and how to spot them, visit www.irs.gov.
In the Broadcast Booth
Topham’s upcoming broadcasts are March 27th, April 24th, May 22nd and June 26th. Missed a show? Visit Mark Greene’s broadcast booth on his website at http://www.markgreenelaw.com/broadcast-booth.

Tax season is in full swing, which means it’s a time of reconciliation for small business owners and bookkeepers utilizing QuickBooks software.

To help QuickBooks users through the process, the Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor team at  Rodman CPAs, a full service tax and accounting firm catering to small and medium-sized companies throughout the greater Boston area, shares highlights from their recent “Preparing for Year-End” QuickBooks seminar.

During the 90-minute seminar held in their Waltham office classroom, Rodman’s QuickBooks ProAdvisors led attendees through a comprehensive year-end checklist. Six key steps of the reconciliation process are outlined below:

1. Cash – Reconcile final bank statements. Review old outstanding checks and deposits.

2. Accounts Receivable – Ensure all 12/31/15 invoices are entered. Review outstanding receivables for uncollectible accounts and write offs. Review negative accounts receivable. Review over 90 days to determine if additional collection efforts are needed. Review undeposited funds to ensure transactions are current.

3. Accounts Payable – Ensure all 12/31/15 vendor bills are posted. Review accounts payable aging for negative or old accounts payable.

4. Credit Cards – Ensure all credit card activity is entered through 12/31/15 for both cash and accrual basis taxpayers. Reconcile credit card activity.

5. 1099s – Review 1099 vendor information to make sure it is complete. Review name, address, tax ID, 1099 coding in QuickBooks. Review QuickBooks mapping of expense accounts for 1099 tracking. Ensure W-9s are on file for all vendors.

6. Loans/Other Liability accounts – Reconcile loans to year-end statements/amortization schedules. Ensure principal and interest expense are properly recorded. Ensure other liability accounts are reviewed and reconciled to backup.

“These are just a few of the steps in the final reporting and closing process that must be completed to ensure everything is in order prior to tax filing,” explained Kathy Parker CPA, partner and Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor.
