Kitchen and Bath Designer Norm Brien Joins Masters Touch

April 29, 2009 //  by admin

Masters Touch, the home design and building experts located in Medfield, are proud to announce that Norm Brien, a talented Kitchen and Bath Designer, has joined their expanding team of professionals.

Mr. Brien’s experience dates all the way back to his childhood when he worked in his grandfather’s company, Brien Construction, in Brooklyn, Connecticut. After serving this apprenticeship Mr. Brien struck out on his own, running his own company for 15 years and became a member of the National Kitchen and Bath Association.

A proud grandfather of two, Mr. Brien followed his daughter out to California where he took a position at Home Depot in the Kitchen and Bath Design department. After a five-year tenure he decided to return to the east coast.

“I needed that reassurance of seasonal change that the east coast is famous for,” he says.

Believing that customer care is paramount to any home designer Mr. Brien couples his experience and knowledge with a positive personality that fits in perfectly with the staff at Masters Touch.

“I was immediately impressed with not only Doug Masters and all the people here as personalities but as true professionals. I felt an immediate sense of professional pride my first day here. I just wanted to dive right in on several projects, but my forte is Kitchen and Bathroom Design and I look forward to helping our customers get exactly what they want for their home.”

Now living in Lincoln, Rhode Island, Mr. Brien became enamored with the quaint charm of Medfield upon his very first visit to the town.

“It’s a wonderful place,” he says with enthusiasm. “It’s reinvigorated me.” He then adds with a smile, “I feel like I’m sixty going on forty-five!”

Masters Touch of Medfield, a one-stop-shop providing architectural, design and construction services, is providing assistance with renovations of the Obed Baker House.

Masters Touch is now actively involved with the Westwood Historical Society in completing renovations of the historic Obed Baker House, also known as the “Red House”, in Westwood.

“It is an honor for Masters Touch to participate in the preservation of a piece of architectural history,” said Doug Masters, President of Masters Touch. When finished, the Obed Baker House will provide the town of Westwood a time capsule of the town’s past, dating back nearly 200 years. This important endeavor will not only enrich the community but also serve as a learning tool for adults and schoolchildren alike.

The Obed Baker House has been authenticated by the Massachusetts Historical Commission as a “well preserved example of Federal Period architecture.” Through the tireless efforts of the Westwood Historical Society and the community at large, the Obed Baker House, built in 1810 with a family history stretching back to the 1630s, became a renovation project back in 2005.

The renovation project is one determined and ultimately made possible through grants and fundraising. Masters Touch is donating portions of the necessary parts and labor and is also planning a fundraising event at their Piano Bar at their location in Medfield.

For more information about the Obed Baker House contact the Westwood Historical Society at www.westwoodhistoricalsociety.com or by e-mail at westwoodhistorical@hotmail.com.

Masters continued, “The history of our country was born and bred in small towns like Westwood and pieces of that very history live and breathe in sites like the Obed Baker House. Masters Touch is proud to play a part in preserving the integrity of this cultural artifact for this and future generations.”

Allow the “Elves” at Masters Touch to “Deck the Halls” for You

December 16, 2008 //  by admin

If the idea of stringing lights and hanging wreaths makes you wish you could skip the holiday season, Masters Touch of Medfield can help.

Instead of climbing that ladder or wrestling with the bushes in an attempt to decorate the exterior of your home, allow the holiday elves at Masters Touch, a one-stop-shop that provides architectural, design and construction services, to help you “deck the halls”.

Utilizing a two-man crew, Masters Touch will provide professional installation of outdoor holiday lighting and decorations. The installation fee is $50 per hour for a minimum of four hours.

Need “twinkle” lights? No need to delve into the attic to search for last year’s lights. Masters Touch can provide professional grade exterior miniature lights (at additional cost).

Outdoor holiday lighting and decoration installation is available to residents in Dover, Sherborn and Medfield.

To schedule holiday decoration or installation at your home, contact 508-359-5900.

“If you’re looking to ‘wow’ family and friends when they arrive at your home or when they enter your home – we can help you make a great impression. Whether you’re looking to hang wreaths on every window of your home or string even the tallest tree with lights, our crew can take the burden off your hands,” noted Doug Masters. “We also invite anyone who is looking for new interior holiday decorating ideas to stop by Masters Touch and chat with our professional interior design elves.”

November 21, 2008 //  by admin

Masters Touch of Medfield, a one-stop-shop providing architectural, design and construction services, supports the Tuition Reduction Incentive Program, known as the T.R.I.P. program, at Whitinsville Christian School in Whitinsville.

For every project completed for families and potential students of the Whitinsville Christian School, Masters Touch donates 3 percent of the gross value of the project to the Whitinsville Christian School T.R.I.P. program.

“By participating in the TRIP program, we’re able to support both the families in the community as well as this terrific school,” explained Doug Masters, founder of Masters Touch.

Whitinsville Christian School offers Pre-K-12 Christian education to families who attend a variety of different churches throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The school is located at 279 Linwood Avenue in Whitinsville, MA. For more information, visit their website at wcs.mec.edu.

Masters Touch Offers Homeowners Key Ways to Save Energy this Winter

October 23, 2008 //  by admin

Rising energy costs have left many people concerned about the cold season ahead and potentially exorbitant heating bills. Masters Touch of Medfield, a one-stop-shop providing architectural, design and construction services, offers homeowners a few tips on how to save energy this winter.

Replace your windows. If the windows in your home are 15 years old or more, chances are they are not very efficient. At least 30 percent of heat in your home is lost through the windows. Even if your home was built in the 80’s, it’s time to replace the windows. There are certainly more energy efficient windows on the market than those available 20-plus years ago.

Replace your doors. Amazingly enough, many people will replace all their windows and save creaky old doors.  The same rule that applies to windows, applies to doors that are 15 years old. Consider replacing your main front door and back door; the doors to the basement, and the door between your home and the garage.

Inspect and install insulation. Have all your visible insulation inspected to make sure it is installed correctly and that there is enough.  And if you have an old home that doesn’t have any insulation between the inner and outer wall, by all means hire an insulation company and have some installed soon!

Check your heating system. It’s imperative to have your heating system checked annually. Contact a local company to service your burner and consider an upgrade if it is an old system.  The technician who performs the service can make recommendations.

Replace all your thermostats. Replace all your thermostats with digital, programmable units and set them to lower the temperature at night or when you are not home during the day. This will help to save on energy bills.

Add Energy Efficient window treatments. You can easily increase the R-value, or insulation value of your home by installing energy efficient window treatments throughout your house. From insulated and thermal shades to blinds, draperies and more, the right window treatments can prevent heat loss in during the winter as well as help block the heat from entering your home during the summer.

Add a pellet stove. With the price of oil these days, consider a pellet stove or other alternative heating source.  A pellet or wood stove is much more efficient at generating heat than an open fireplace.

“Just one 275 gallon tank of oil can cost up to $1,300. On average, homeowners with oil heat fill their tanks at least six times during the winter. The costs for electric and gas have also increased significantly. That being said, the fall is the time to incorporate measures to reduce those energy bills,” explained Doug Masters, founder of Masters Touch.

He continued, “The changes you invest in now should see you through at least the next 20 years and the cost of upgrading will be offset by rising energy costs.”
