Mattapoisett resident Shannon Francis wins The Law Offices of John C. Manoog III “Legal Eagle” Award

June 6, 2013 //  by admin

Shannon Francis is a certified paralegal at The Law Offices of John C. Manoog III. A Mattapoisett resident, Francis was recently selected for the firm’s Legal Eagle award, which goes to the staff member who goes above and beyond the call of duty.

HYANNIS, MA…

Your boss goes on maternity and leaves it up to you to cover for her absence in addition to your normal duties. For most people, this is a daunting task. For Shannon Francis, whose boss, Kerri Wilson, is known as the office workaholic, it’s like climbing Mount Everest. Yet her ability to capably take the place of her boss earned her The Law Offices of John C. Manoog III’s “Legal Eagle” award for the second quarter of 2013.

“It’s kind of a running joke that Kerri does the work of three people, but it’s not that far from the truth. So when she went out on maternity, we knew whomever was going to step in had to fill some large shoes. Shannon has really risen to the occasion and shown how capable she is. This will make us even stronger once Kerri returns,” said John C. Manoog III. “Shannon is most deserving of our “Legal Eagle” award for the second quarter.”

Francis began with The Law Offices of John C. Manoog III in August 2012 after graduating from Cape Cod Community College with an associate’s degree in psychology. She also earned her paralegal certification at CCCC.

“I’m very flattered by this honor. I knew it was going to be a challenge with Kerri on maternity and it has been. It’s nice to know that your efforts are recognized and appreciated,” said Francis.

Raised in Marion, Massachusetts, Francis currently resides in Mattapoisett and is an active participant in many ALS-related fundraising initiatives.

“There’s a direct correlation between the success of a law firm and how well everybody at the firm works with each other and is committed to the overall objective—a favorable result for the client. A big part of that is people stepping up when their colleagues are not available, be it for vacation, illness or maternity leave,” said Manoog. “Shannon’s efforts in Kerri’s absence is a great example of that and we are glad to have her on our team.”

Law Offices of John C. Manoog sponsors Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition’s “Against the Tide” fundraiser

March 28, 2013 //  by admin

Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition Executive Director Cheryl Osimo accepts sponsorship from Attorney John Manoog, principal of the Law Offices of John C. Manoog III, located at 450 South Street, Hyannis. The Firm’s sponsorship will go towards MBCC’s “Against the Tide” swim, walk, run, kayak and run fundraiser fundraiser.

HYANNIS, PLYMOUTH and ROCKLAND, MA…

As a personal injury attorney, John C. Manoog III is quite familiar with going against the tide. He often takes cases to trial that many other lawyers would have settled out of court for less of an award.  Perhaps that best explains his firm’s sponsorship of the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition’s Against the Tide fundraiser; contributing $5000 over the past two years.

“You simply can’t choose a tougher foe than cancer and there is no easy path towards defeating a disease as devastating as breast cancer,” said Manoog. “We commend Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition for taking on this deadly opponent and are happy to support the Against the Tide effort.

For the past fourteen years, the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC) has held the annual Against the Tide swim, walk, run, kayak fundraiser. The morning event includes a competitive and recreational swim, kayak, walk, and run components, as well as an Aquathlon consisting of a competitive 1-mile swim and your choice of a competitive 5K or 10K run.

The Metro Boston Against the Tide event will be held at DCR’s Hopkinton State Park on Saturday, June 22nd. The annual Cape Cod Against the Tide event will be held at DCR’s Nickerson State Park on Saturday, August 17th. Both events start at 7:00am and end at 12:00 noon. Each participant must raise $175 to take part.

“John Manoog and his entire staff are true humanitarians, I am deeply grateful to John for his generous commitment in help us work towards our goal of breast cancer prevention. It is because of sponsors like Attorney Manoog that we are able to continue our education and advocacy efforts to reduce exposure to environmental contaminants linked to breast cancer. He is a credit to his community for helping the state’s leading breast cancer organization to end the legacy of breast cancer for future generations,” said Cheryl Osimo, MBCC’s executive director.

According to the MBCC website:

  • In 2008, Massachusetts had the highest incidence rate of breast cancer in the U.S.
  • National data for 2009 (which is the largest available) reports an incidence rate for breast cancer at 130.3 per 100,000 in Massachusetts compared to an average rate of 123.1 for the U.S. as a whole.
  • Massachusetts is in the top quartile of incidence for breast cancer in the U.S., a group that includes Colorado, Connecticut, Washington DC, Hawaii, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Washington.

Law Offices of John C. Manoog III launches Wrongful Death division.

November 16, 2012 //  by admin

HYANNIS, AND PLYMOUTH, MA…

When a loved one dies in a fatal accident caused by someone else’s negligence, it’s difficult for the family to focus on the future without that loved one. Especially as that future becomes their present without a caregiver and/or provider—not to mention dealing with possible medical and burial bills associated with that death. The Law Offices of John C. Manoog III recently established a special Wrongful Death division specifically to help families deal with the devastation of a wrongful death.

“Losing a loved one is never easy, but when it occurs from negligence, it’s particularly overwhelming. Yet the hard reality in many cases is that the family is now without one of it is providers or caregivers and that cannot be quantified,” said John C. Manoog III. “Our Wrongful Death Division helps grieving families sort through the details of the accident swiftly so that they can receive appropriate compensation for their loss and better deal monetarily with their new reality.”

Adds Manoog, “What can be extremely unfortunate in these scenarios is that families may not realize they have a wrongful death case. Or perhaps they know and like the person responsible and don’t necessarily want to punish them. It’s still something they should discuss with an attorney simply for the future well being of the family.”

Wrongful deaths can be caused by car or motorcycle accidents, construction accidents, medical malpractice and even product liability claims. The Law Offices of John C. Manoog III’s Wrongful Death Division can represent the victim’s estate so the families can receive a fair settlement as quickly as possible.

Manoog’s Wrongful Death Division will address the following:

  • Loss of income – Manoog experts will determine probable life expectancy and probable earnings over a lifetime.
  • The value of a caregiver/parent – It’s difficult to quantify the loss of services. What does helping with homework, mowing the lawn, cooking dinner or being there add up to? The Wrongful Death Division attorneys paint a picture for the insurance company and for the jury so they can understand the depth of loss.
  • Pain and suffering of the victim – Did your loved one have conscious pain and suffering as a result of the fatal accident? Were there medical bills and funeral expenses? The estate should be compensated.

“A wrongful death is tragic for all involved.  What we try to do is take an awful situation and make it a little easier for the family,” said Manoog. “There’s no amount of money that will bring back that loved one. With our Wrongful Death Division, we can lessen the suffering by getting a financial recovery that makes it easier for the family.”

Law Offices of John C. Manoog III teams up with Friendly’s and Barnstable PD to give children the scoop on Halloween safety

October 23, 2012 //  by admin

HYANNIS, MA…

As a teenager working at Friendly’s, John Manoog saw firsthand the power an ice cream had in influencing children’s behavior—transforming sad, cranky or glum faces to smiles. Now a personal injury attorney, Manoog is hoping a free ice cream cone can be just as effective in getting across the safety message this Halloween season. To that end, the Law Offices of John C. Manoog III have joined forces with Friendly’s and the Barnstable Police Department on a Safety First campaign targeting Halloween season.

Starting October 29, the first 250 children to visit Friendly’s on Route 132 in Barnstable will receive a round soft touch LED key ring and a coupon for a free ice cream cone. The LED lights feature a “Safety First” message and offer two settings—blinking and continuous light—for improved visibility.

“With it getting darker earlier, it can be difficult to see pedestrians and bikers of any age,” said Manoog, whose firm has offices at 450 Sea Street in Hyannis and 18 Main Street in Plymouth. “These lights, coupled with a free ice cream cone, are kind of a fun way to get the safety message across to kids during Halloween and the rest of the year.”

“We would like to thank Attorney Manoog for his generous donation of the key light rings and helping to spread the safety message,” said Anna Griswold, Friendly’s District Sales Manager. “It was fun to learn that John worked at Friendly’s and it’s nice to see that a former Friendly’s employee has not forgotten his roots.”
