Becky Dentinger named DirectBuy of Buffalo’s August “Do-Gooder” of the month.

September 13, 2009 //  by admin

CHEEKTOWAGA, NEW YORK…

DirectBuy of Buffalo, the leading home improvement and furnishings club with direct insider prices, established the “Do-Gooder of the Month” award to recognize employees, vendors and even members going above and beyond the call of duty—either on the job or in their everyday lives. August’s winner is Becky Dentinger, a service specialist, for the quantity and quality of member testimonials received last month.

As a service specialist, Dentinger works closely with DirectBuy members in helping them make their selections. Utilizing her construction experience and education—she’s currently studying interior design at Villa Maria College—she’s able to find members the products they need at direct insider prices.

“It’s a worn out cliché but for Becky it’s absolutely true. She goes above and beyond the call of duty for our members and it shows in the number of favorable comments we get specifically citing her service. The fact that she does it while balancing a full course load at college makes it even more impressive. Becky is a very worthy recipient of our Do-Gooder of the Month award,” said Mark Klinger, owner of DirectBuy of Buffalo.

As the Do-Gooder of the Month, beyond the recognition, Dentinger will receive a restaurant gift certificate.

“One of the things I love about working here is I learn so much, both from my fellow staff members and customers. I guess I don’t really see it as going above and beyond the call because I do learn so much on the job,” said Dentinger.

Previously working in construction, Dentinger began with DirectBuy of Buffalo in 2008. Originally hailing from Alexander, she currently resides in Attica.

Since 1971, DirectBuy has helped consumers enjoy enormous savings on home furnishings, home improvement items, entertainment and outdoor products, and accessories, by providing an avenue to purchase directly from the manufacturer. Conveniently located at 4950 Genesee Street in Cheektowaga, New York, DirectBuy offers members a comfortable, country-club setting, where they finally have the financial control of buying direct.

For more information on a DirectBuy membership, you can call 716-684-1400 or visit

Resort Maps to sponsor “road trip” for two Plymouth grannies.

September 10, 2009 //  by admin

PLYMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS AND WAITSFIELD, VERMONT…

Beth Sobiloff and Virginia Just never saw themselves as “traditional” grandmothers spending their reclining years, well, reclining. To prove that point and to achieve a lifelong dream of traveling the U.S., the two small business owners have literally decided to take their show (lives and businesses) on the road in a cross country journey to begin in March 2010.

Resort Maps, creator of more than 90 customized travel maps across the United States, England and Puerto Rico, has signed on as one of the first sponsors of the “Two Grannies on the Road” trip.

“At Resort Maps we believe that every trip is about the journey, not just the destination. Two Grannies on the Road epitomizes that philosophy and takes it one step further as Beth and Ginny will also be running their businesses while they see the country—and that’s something we want to support,” said Peter Hans, president of Resort Maps Franchise.

Just, a 62 year-old grandmother of two boys and freelance graphic designer and Sobiloff, a 59-year-old grandmother of two girls and Web designer/search engine optimization specialist, plan to start their journey in March 2010, traveling in an RV down the coast and across the country to California over a two-month period. During that time, the two grannies will continue to run their businesses. Part of that will be stopping off at local chambers of commerce and Business Networking International (BNI) for meetings along the way.

“Both Ginny and I have been huge networkers, particularly with BNI. So, we’re looking forward to attending networking meetings on our trip and meeting other small business owners, including Resort Maps franchise owners in the cities and towns we travel through,” said Sobiloff. It will also be a big help to have the maps provided by Resort Maps in navigating our trip.

Resort Maps franchises operate in cities and towns in 20 states, including: California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Vermont—as well as towns and cities in England and Puerto Rico.

“Many Resort Maps franchise owners bought into the business because they didn’t want to be confined to the 12 months a year, 9-to-5 grind. Much like the Two Grannies, our franchise owners want to run their businesses on their own terms. Again, that’s what makes Resort Maps’ sponsorship with the Two Grannies a perfect match,” added Hans.

To find out more about the Two Grannies on the Road, including the progress of preparation for this great journey, please visit their blog at www.twogranniesontheroad.com. Businesses looking to sponsor the Two Grannies can contact Beth Sobiloff or Virginia Just by calling 617-851-6337.

A family affair… DirectBuy of Edison owners celebrate 20-year milestone.

September 3, 2009 //  by admin

EDISON, NEW JERSEY…

Much has changed in the world since Phil and Susanne Wisniewski opened DirectBuy of Edison. The Berlin Wall was still intact. It would be years before anybody heard of the Internet and not everybody had cable. Yet 20 years later, both are still sold on the DirectBuy concept of providing members the opportunity to purchase name brand products at direct insider prices.

“DirectBuy has become a way of life for our family. We have three generations working in our club. We even have extended family members who have seen what we’ve done and purchased a club of their own [DirectBuy of Pinellas County in Largo, Florida],” said Phil. “The growth we’ve experienced since we opened our doors 20 years ago is a little hard to fathom. Not only have we grown in terms of the number of our members, but also in the number of manufacturers who want to sell their products through DirectBuy.”

And after 20 years, DirectBuy of Edison is still going strong. For 2009, DirectBuy of Edison ranked 5th in merchandise sales among DirectBuy clubs in the U.S.

As the leading members-only home improvement and home furnishings club, DirectBuy of Edison offers direct insider pricing on products ranging from light fixtures to televisions to kitchen cabinets, all from more than 700 manufacturers and their authorized suppliers. DirectBuy also offers design services to its members, as well as a listing of local contractors who offer installation services to DirectBuy members, many times at a discounted rate.

“Our 20 years in business have not only given us the opportunity to help families create the home of their dreams, but to also establish ourselves as part of the local business community,” said Wisniewski. “We look forward to further cultivating those relationships with our customers and the community as we build toward even bigger and better things in the years to come.”

DirectBuy of Edison has helped consumers enjoy enormous savings on home furnishings, home improvement items, entertainment and outdoor products, and accessories, by providing an avenue to purchase directly from the manufacturer. Conveniently located at 135 Raritan Center Parkway in Edison, DirectBuy offers consumers a comfortable setting where they finally have the financial control of buying direct.

DirectBuy of North Boston awards $50,000 home makeover to area resident.

September 2, 2009 //  by admin

STONEHAM, MA…

DirectBuy of North Boston, the home improvement and furnishings club with direct insider prices, recently awarded $50,000 to Leominster resident James Hartung as part of the company’s national Home Makeover Program. Mr. Hartung was presented with the check on August 26 at the Stoneham area club.

“When I received the letter in the mail notifying me that I was DirectBuy’s $50,000 Home Makeover winner, I didn’t think it was real,” said Hartung. “It wasn’t until I received a call from the DirectBuy corporate headquarters that made me realize I had truly won.”

With his newfound fortune, Hartung has many home improvement projects in mind, but there’s one clear front-runner that he’s looking to begin this fall.

“I’ve always wanted a farmer’s porch that wraps around both sides of my home and thanks to DirectBuy’s Home Makeover contest, I can finally have an outdoor gathering place for friends and family to enjoy,” said Hartung.

Not only will the porch provide a fun outside retreat for friends and family members, but it will also help facilitate next year’s kitchen remodel. Hartung currently has a door in his kitchen that opens to the outside. The door divides up his kitchen, taking up valuable countertop and cabinet space. With the addition of his wrap-around porch, James will be able to move the door to a better location, allowing for more cabinetry and counter space along one of the kitchen walls.

Carl Krawczyk who operates the Boston North location was excited that his club was able to help someone from their community. “Every day, my wife Barb and I have loved having the opportunity to come to work and help families save money. So to be able to give Mr. Hartung a check for $50,000, well, that’s just the icing on the cake!” said Krawczyk.

Over the past few years, DirectBuy has distributed more than a half million dollars in prize money to both members and non-members as part of their Home Makeover Program, designed to help consumers create the home of their dreams.

The DirectBuy of Boston North club, located at 100A Fallon Road in Stoneham, offers consumers thousands of items, including kitchen cabinets, flat-screen televisions and major appliances from more than 700 top manufacturers and their authorized suppliers. Members enjoy a comfortable, welcoming setting and design club where they finally have the financial control of buying direct.

To assist members with their home renovation projects, DirectBuy of Boston North employs interior designers and product specialists who are specially trained in one of five areas of merchandise: Home Furnishings, Home Improvement, Flooring, Entertainment/Outdoor, and Accessories. Additionally, members benefit from the use of a children’s play area, café and a member’s lounge to relax while shopping.

Consumers who are interested in joining DirectBuy of Boston North are encouraged to attend an exclusive Open House event, which is designed to educate families about DirectBuy’s unique business model.  The Open House also helps consumers better understand how DirectBuy members avoid traditional retail markup when purchasing brand-name merchandise.

Crete resident receives DirectBuy’s Success Circle honors

August 28, 2009 //  by admin

TINLEY PARK, IL…

Crete resident Earl Patterson, a membership director at DirectBuy of Tinley Park, was recently awarded Success Circle honors by DirectBuy’s corporate offices for his dedication to helping introduce new families to DirectBuy club memberships during the month of May.

DirectBuy’s Success Circle recognizes the top performing membership directors and phone room associates at more than 160 DirectBuy clubs across North America for their performance on a monthly basis. As a membership director, Patterson is responsible for presenting the DirectBuy opportunity to prospective members, conducting tours of the DirectBuy of Tinley Park club and answering questions prospective members might have prior to making their decision.

“Earl has achieved Success Circle 19 times during his DirectBuy career. That doesn’t happen by accident. He not only is good at what he does, but deeply believes in what DirectBuy offers our members,” said I.J. Sell, owner of DirectBuy of Tinley Park, located at 18400 South 76th Avenue Suite B.

Patterson began with DirectBuy of Tinley Park in 2002. Yet his history with DirectBuy goes back to 1983 when his parents joined the club as members.

“Unlike a lot of my peers, I grew up with DirectBuy and paying insider prices so I literally have a lifetime of experience to share with potential members on why buying this way enables you to live better and stretch your hard-earned dollars farther. So, it really doesn’t feel like I’m selling, but sharing my firsthand experience,” said Patterson.

Since 1971, DirectBuy clubs have offered members the opportunity to enjoy enormous savings on home furnishings, home improvement items, entertainment and outdoor products and accessories by buying wholesale, directly from the manufacturer. With several convenient locations in the greater Chicago area (Chicago, Gurnee, Hoffman Estates, Naperville, and Tinley Park), consumers can enjoy a comfortable, country-club setting, where they finally have the financial control of buying direct.

Turnwater Family Wins Free Membership and $5,000 Shopping Spree to DirectBuy

August 26, 2009 //  by admin

LACEY, WASHINGTON…

Everyone knows that a growing family is always in need of more room and home furnishings. That’s why when Troy and Andrea Lamphier, of Turnwater, Washington, saw an advertisement for a chance to win a free DirectBuy membership and a $5,000 shopping spree at the club, they jumped at the opportunity.

“Though I didn’t exactly know how DirectBuy worked compared to retail shopping when I entered the contest, I liked the concept of buying without retail markup,” said Troy Lamphier. “I knew it was going to be a chance to improve my family’s home, especially at a time when we need it the most.”

Recently, the Lamphier family grew when Troy, Andrea, and their 16-year-old son Rilay found out they now had permanent custody of two foster children, eight-year-old Baylee and 10-year-old Destiny.

With the addition of two children, Troy and Andrea need to convert their fourth bedroom back into a cozy and comfortable space. The bedroom is currently being used as a home office, where Andrea does medical transcribing.

The Lamphier family plans on using their DirectBuy membership and $5,000 shopping spree to help with the building and furnishing of an enclosed office suite that will section off part of the living room with a half wall and French doors.

“Not only will the enclosed office space keep the children safe from the many hazards home offices can set off, but my office won’t interfere with our family life,” said Andrea.

After touring their nearby DirectBuy location in Lacey, the Lamphier family went home excited about their new membership. During their club tour and member orientation, Troy and Andrea became very fond of the club staff and owners. “We couldn’t believe how warm and friendly the staff was,” said Troy. “It was like visiting old family, they quickly made us feel at home.”

“There couldn’t have been a more deserving family to win than the Lamphiers. We are so proud to have this great family as our newest club members,” said DirectBuy of Puget Sound Owner Dimitri Olympidis. “We are very eager to help them transform their home to better suit the needs of their new family.”

The contest was sponsored by the DirectBuy clubs in Western Washington and Canyon Creek Cabinets. DirectBuy of Western Washington area consists of three DirectBuy locations: Puget Sound, Seattle North, and South Seattle. This type of generosity is fairly standard for DirectBuy. Clubs across North America donate to any number of organizations, and have shown a particular affinity for making contributions to children/family-oriented organizations and people.

In this economy, those savings become even more important. That’s why the company recently introduced several new membership plans to accommodate a wider range of needs and budgets, so that even more families can experience the benefits of belonging to DirectBuy.

“The very nature of our concept is powerful, in any economy,” said DirectBuy Executive Vice President Bart Fesperman. “What we were seeing was our members faring much better than most families because of their memberships with DirectBuy and the savings they were experiencing. Even with the economy being slow, our members are still able to buy the things they need for their home. Now we hope to be able to share this security with even more families.”

That’s why DirectBuy recently introduced a variety of new membership plans to accommodate consumers’ varying needs and budgets – and response has been overwhelmingly positive.

The first new avenue for a family to experience membership is via DirectBuy’s free 30-day membership program. The free membership gives families an opportunity to spend up to $1,000 at DirectBuy over the course of 30 days – giving them the chance to try DirectBuy firsthand before selecting a longer-term membership.

Families can now also take advantage of two additional tiers of membership, based on their specific needs. In addition to DirectBuy’s standard Gold membership, guests may also select Silver, which gives them access to a select number of manufacturers, or Platinum membership, which includes extra perks such as the ability to shop from the convenience of your home with the help of a Concierge Services Agent, seven days a week.

Finally, DirectBuy recently unveiled new varying terms of membership, from as short as three months up to 10 years. This new flexibility means homeowners can, for the first time, customize DirectBuy membership to fit their specific needs.

“When guests come in to our club, they aren’t deciding any more if DirectBuy membership is right for them,” says DirectBuy of Palm Beaches Franchise Owner Stephen Levin. “Instead, guests are now choosing which membership plan best suits their needs.”

DirectBuy clubs offer members the opportunity to enjoy enormous savings on home furnishings, home improvement items, carpeting and flooring, entertainment and outdoor products, and accessories by purchasing from manufacturers and their authorized suppliers at direct insider prices. In addition, DirectBuy clubs boast a team of designers to help members with their purchases, as well as provide access to a roster of hand-selected contractors to help expedite members’ projects.

Consumers interested in becoming members may obtain a Visitor’s Pass to attend an Open House by visiting www.directbuy.com.
