How brides can avoid trashing their wedding dress

August 13, 2013 //  by admin

HANOVER, MA …

A few years ago, there was a fad where brides would intentionally “trash” their wedding dress, doing everything from rolling around in the mud to actually burning their wedding dresses. With wedding season in full swing, brides who would prefer to keep their gowns intact may be unintentionally trashing their dress if the don’t take the proper steps to clean and store their wedding gowns.

“There’s so much that goes into a wedding that most brides don’t plan on steps to clean and preserve their gowns. That’s really unfortunate because a stain on your wedding day can lead to some problems if not treated correctly and in a timely fashion,” said Kevin DuBois, CEO of Lapels Dry Cleaning, an environmentally friendly dry cleaning franchise with more than 40 locations nationwide. “Honestly, if you want to preserve your dress, the best way is to seek out a professional dry cleaner prior to the wedding, show them the dress, and devise a course of action.”

A visit to a dry cleaner with your dress enables them to make a recommendation on cleaning and storage. Some dresses have beads, tassels and other items that might melt during dry cleaning. Do not remove the tag so the dry cleaner has as much information as possible about the gown.

Other steps to ensure an effective cleaning of your gown:

  • If on the day of your wedding you spill something on your dress, blot it gently as rubbing can damage the fabric permanently. Let the dry cleaner have the first shot at removing the stain.
  • Make arrangements to have your dress dry cleaned as soon as possible after your wedding. This helps avoid the danger of untreated stains becoming oxidized and increases the likelihood of a successful cleaning. If you are planning on going on your honeymoon right after the wedding, assign a friend or family member the task and bring them on your pre-wedding visit.
  • Ask to see the cleaned dress at the dry cleaner’s to thoroughly examine it. If a stain has not come out, discuss with the dry cleaner additional treatments.
  • Under no circumstances do you want to store your dress without dry cleaning first. You might think you made it through the day unscathed, but perspiration stains can affect the fabric, even after they evaporate.

“If you bought your dress from somebody local, ask them to recommend a dry cleaner. People in the business know who the better dry cleaners are and that’s where you want to bring your dress,” said Dubois. “We can’t stress enough bringing the dress in beforehand. Not only does this help when dry cleaning after the wedding but it familiarizes the dry cleaner with the dress just in case there’s an accident before the wedding.”

Lapels has pioneered its eco-friendly dry cleaning experience for the past 10 years.  Using the latest technology in equipment and cleaning solution, Lapels is one of the few dry cleaners able to boast that there is no hazardous waste in their process. Orange Leaf frozen yogurt grand opening in Needham, Mass has ‘em lining the streets.

August 2, 2013 //  by admin

Nearly 2,000 “froyo” lovers lined Highland Avenue for the grand opening of Orange Leaf in Needham on July 31. Located right across the street from Needham High School at 1185 Highland Avenue, the line at the new Orange Leaf, not so coincidentally, was about the length of Needham High’s football field for a good part of the evening.

NEEDHAM, MA…

Nearly 2,000 “froyo” lovers literally lined the streets to attend the grand opening of the newest Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt located at 1185 Highland Avenue across from Needham High School in Needham, Mass.

Those who attended the grand opening, which took place from 6pm to 11pm on July 31, received a FREE Froyo and all the toppings they could pile on.

Said one attendee while waiting in a line that extended to nearly the length of a football field all night, “I’ve never seen anything like this in Needham in my 50 years of living here.”

In addition to the froyo giveaway, the grand opening featured dozens of raffles of everything from t-shirts and travel cups to an iPad Mini. Balloon artists and other children’s entertainment also kept the crowds entertained while people enjoyed their froyo.

“You could not ask for a better grand opening. We are absolutely thrilled to have given away over 15,000 ounces of free froyo and tempting toppings to the Needham area community!” said, Gerry Pelissier, co-owner of the Orange Leaf Needham location. “We chose this location due its proximity to the Needham High School – across the street!  We believe that Orange Leaf can make a difference in providing a “healthier dessert” to kids and adults alike with a low or no-fat, great tasting treat.

Orange Leaf makes 16 flavors of froyo fresh each day from a portfolio of 70. Since the Needham location’s initial opening at the end of June, the most popular flavors have Brownie Batter, Oreo, Orange and Vanilla Swirl.  Orange Leaf’s seasonal offering is Root Beer Float froyo.

Pelissier added, “We are all about choices and we offer more than 50 different toppings from fresh fruit (including chocolate dipped strawberries) to freshly baked waffle cups, hot fudge and home-made whipped cream.”

The Needham location marks the second Orange Leaf store opened by Pelissier and his partners. The first is in Canton, Massachusetts at Cobbs Corner. Each Orange Leaf employs 25 local people.

The Needham store encompasses a roomy 2,500 square feet and features a variety of seating including a community table for larger families and groups, cozy orange leather couches, high top tables and more.  The store also features complimentary WI-FI and USB charger ports for Phones and Laptops.

July 3, 2013 //  by admin

Lapels Dry Cleaning CEO Kevin Dubois (far right) presents Big Brother/Big Sister Foundation’s Steven Beck (second from right) and Ken Higgins (far left) with a check representing $10,000 worth of clothes donated by Lapels customers nationwide to Big Brother Big Sister organizations in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Jersey and Arizona. HANOVER, MA…

Last year, Lapels Dry Cleaning customers in Massachusetts donating nearly three tons of clothing in Lapels annual drive to raise money for Big Brother/Big Sister (BBBS). This year, Lapels Dry Cleaning customers topped that figure by donating 5,744 pounds of clothing.

“We have a few more locations in Massachusetts this year, but even so that is a staggering amount of clothing,” said Kevin Dubois, CEO of Lapels Dry Cleaning, an environmentally friendly dry cleaner with more than 50 locations nationwide. “I can’t really say I’m that surprised. Our customers have always been very generous and this year, with the recent bombings, I think the charitable side of people has really come out, both for the One Fund and other philanthropic endeavors. “I was thrilled last year with the very generous amount of donations made. This year, with nearly 1500 more pounds of clothes, I’d have to say me I’m speechless,” said Steven Beck, an executive director of the Big Brother/Big Sister Foundation.

The drive, held from May 6 through May 19, included significant contributions from 22 Lapels Dry Cleaning stores and plants in Massachusetts.

Some of the larger contributors to the clothing drive included the following stores:

  • Lapels of Boston Trilogy(1495 pounds)
  • Lapels of Hanover (1380 pounds)

“Once again, we’re so grateful for the contribution by Lapels customers and Lapels for coordinating the effort,” said Ken Higgins, Big Brother Big Sister Dispatch supervisor. “Lapels has a great reputation for caring about its customers. The annual clothing drive shows how much Lapels customers care about people.”

Beyond the Massachusetts stores, Lapels lone Rhode Island location in Lincoln, Rhode Island, contributed 391 pounds to the drive to the Big Brother/Big Sister organization in the Ocean State.

“Our New England stores really stepped it up for this clothing drive,” said Kevin Dubois, CEO of Lapels Dry Cleaning. “Lapels prides itself on being environmentally friendly. A part of that is giving back to the communities we serve. We’re grateful to have a customer base that shares that spirit of giving.”

The future of dry cleaning comes to OKC. Lapels Dry Cleaning opens at 13801 North Bryant Avenue location.

June 21, 2013 //  by admin

Owner Brian and Stacy Culver in front of the new Lapels Dry Cleaning store located at 13801 North Bryant Avenue in Oklahoma City, OK.

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK and HANOVER, MA…

Lapels Dry Cleaning, an innovative, environmentally friendly dry cleaning company headquartered in Hanover, Massachusetts, will open a new location on June 22 in Oklahoma City at 13801 North Bryant Avenue. The OKC location represents the first Lapels Dry Cleaning location in the state of Oklahoma.

The new Lapels Dry Cleaning store is owned and operated by Brian and Stacey Culver. Store hours are Monday through Friday, 7 am to 7 pm; Saturday 8 am to 5 pm; and Sunday, 12 pm to 3 pm. The grand opening for the new Lapels will be held on July 20.

“We are delighted to bring Lapels’ standard of high quality dry cleaning and superior customer service to OKC,” said Brian Culver, who lives with his wife Stacey and their four children in Logan County.

A graduate of the University of Richmond, Culver had served as a helicopter pilot in the Navy, including combat stints in the Persian Gulf before entering civilian life and working for Country Financial. After growing up as a “military brat” and living that same life, Brian and Stacey opted for a little more control of their destiny by owning their own business.

“There are a number of franchises out there that offer discounts for veterans, but we wanted to make sure we selected a business that was right for us and our family. Since I have some background with restaurants and Stacey’s background is in retail, we looked at some restaurants and some other dry cleaners. Lapels struck us as a young and growing company that does things a little differently and is constantly looking for ways to improve and innovate,” said Brian.

Lapels has pioneered its eco-friendly dry cleaning experience for the past 10 years.  Using the latest technology in equipment and cleaning solution, Lapels is one of the few dry cleaners in the greater OKC area able to boast that there is no hazardous waste in their process. Their environmentally-friendly cleaning process has no odor and is gentler on clothes, thus lengthening the life of clothes. At Lapels you can see, feel and smell the difference.

Lapels customers are greeted to a warm and inviting reception area, with friendly customer service representatives, and a full service on-site tailor.

“We want to congratulate Brian on blazing the trail for Lapels Dry Cleaning to enter the state of Oklahoma. We look forward to continuing our support at the corporate level to help ensure the success of this Lapels Dry Cleaning and perhaps future stores down the road,” remarked Lapels Dry Cleaning CEO Kevin Dubois.

Lapels offers it’s customers Automatic Rewards earning them credit towards free dry cleaning for every dollar they spend, Loyalty Programs, a VIP Program which eliminates the need to wait in line and the use of a 24 Hour Drop Off Service. Same day service is also available with pick-up after 5 pm.

Mad Men dreams? Viamark Advertising initiates franchise opportunity offering.

May 14, 2013 //  by admin

Plymouth, Mass./New Bern, NC

The popular TV show “Mad Men” has revived the luster of the advertising agency world.  Although the industry may no longer consist of an on-going cocktail party and romantic whirlwind, the industry continues to offer an open canvas for creative ideas and opportunity.

Viamark Advertising, the leading advertising agency franchise company with corporate offices in Plymouth, MA and New Bern, NC as well as 12 franchised offices in seven markets, is now offering franchise opportunities and seeking strategic thinkers to own and operate their own advertising agency.

With extensive experience in marketing and media sales management, Viamark’s founders Mark Storie and Glenn Anderson have developed a unique business model that allows franchisees to get up and operational quickly.  Viamark provides the resources to help franchisees offer media buying, creative services, ad production, and digital services to each of their clients.

Viamark is initially looking for qualified candidates in markets throughout the East Coast.

“Many people who have worked in various advertising positions have dreamed of running their own ad agency, but hesitated because they may not have had all the tools, support or infrastructure,” noted Glenn Anderson, one of the founders of ViaMark Advertising and the Franchise Sales Director.  “Viamark offers a proven formula for winning new clients and growing a business.  We are excited about helping people attain their dreams.”

“This is different from most other franchise opportunities in that you do have to have experience and knowledge of the advertising industry,” said Mark Storie, President of Viamark Advertising. “For the right individual who has that background and client relationships, however, we can provide the resources so they can avoid the pitfalls that a startup might face and allow them to build a book of business quickly. Together, we can bring success to our clients and our businesses faster than either of us can alone.  It’s a mutually beneficial partnership.  It just makes sense.”

Franchisee candidates should have five plus years media sales and/or management experience or five plus years ad agency experience in account management and/or business development.  Other helpful attributes and background include local market knowledge and contacts, creative and strategic thinking, relationship oriented – rather than transactional oriented, composed and capable of managing multiple tasks at once, positive and outgoing.

With 12 offices in seven media markets, Viamark handles over 150 local and regional accounts from South Carolina to Massachusetts in addition to national clients through the U.S. Viamark specializes in strategic media buying and creative services, including radio, television, print, outdoor and digital advertising.

Some of Viamark’s core industries include automotive, healthcare, pharmaceutical, education, restaurant, retail and real estate.

Lapels Dry Cleaning kicks off clothing drive to benefit Big Brother/Big Sister of Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

May 5, 2013 //  by admin

The Big Brother/Big Sister truck backs up to collect clothes donated at last year’s Lapels Dry Cleaning clothing drive. Lapels kicks off their 2013 drive on May 4 (the drive will run through May 19). Lapels is an innovative, environmentally friendly dry cleaning company with corporate headquarters in Hanover, Massachusetts.

HANOVER, MA …

Dropping your clothes off at the dry cleaners is usually thought of as a thankless chore. Lapels Dry Cleaning, with its clothing drive to benefit the Big Brother/Big Sister of Massachusetts and Rhode Island, is guaranteeing a hearty thank you to all who contribute to this very worthy cause.

Starting May 4 and running through May 19, Lapels customers and the general public are welcome to donate any gently used clothing items including:  Men’s, Women’s and Children’s clothing, coats, jackets, shoes ( any season or size). Household items such as linens, sheets, blankets, towels, drapes, comforters, afghans, curtains, fabric and purses are also accepted.

“This is our 10th year conducting a clothes drive to benefit Big Brother/Big Sister and our customers have always stepped up for this wonderful cause”  said Kevin Dubois, CEO of Lapels Dry Cleaning. “Having added several new Lapels Dry Cleaning stores in Massachusetts, we’re hoping 2013 will be the best clothing drive ever.”

Lapels Dry Cleaning has nearly 20 locations in Massachusetts and one in Lincoln, Rhode Island. Clothes collected by Lapels Dry Cleaning will be sold by Big Brother/Big Sister to high-end thrift stores. The net proceeds from those sales are donated towards Big Brother/Big Sister programs.

“This annual clothing drive is actually something our customers look forward to because it kills two birds with one stone. On one hand, they get to help a very worthy cause raise money without it costing them a dime out of their pocket. On the other, they’re removing unwanted items from their home. It’s the proverbial win-win where everybody wins,” said Dubois.
