Thin and Healthy’s Total Solution Opens in Bellingham

October 30, 2008 //  by admin

After finding out about Thin & Healthy’s Total Solution®, the Executive Producer for Fitness Insider, a television show aired on the Oxygen Channel, says, “Thin & Healthy’s Total Solution is the BEST kept secret in weight loss.”

Thin & Healthy’s Total Solution has just opened a location in Bellingham. There are now over 200 locations distributing the program worldwide. It is the only complete concept, as it is the marriage of weight loss, fitness and motivation. The members enjoy the opportunity to work on losing weight, increasing their movement and improving their entire life at one place.

No other weight management or fitness program offers the three components Thin & Healthy’s Total Solution offers. A Healthy Foods Education component teaches people how to eat their favorite foods and lose weight. That is unique and great news, since we love our pizza, chips and brownies. But it’s not what makes Thin & Healthy’s Total Solution stand out. A Metabolism Retraining component teaches people how to fall in love with movement. Even those who’ve never liked to exercise discover how easy it is to increase their metabolic rate with movement. That is unique, but not what makes Thin & Healthy’s Total Solution® stand out. The key to their program is the Life Success component, which gives each member the inspiration, education and tools needed in order to tap into their motivation and determination that lies within.

Unlike most other weight loss programs they do not focus on food, but rather on the ‘how’ and the ‘why’. Donna Krech, CEO and founder of Thin & Healthy’s Total Solution says, “Permanent weight loss is not about the food! It’s about the motivation. We focus on teaching our members how to maintain their motivation. Anyone can lose weight, but 97 percent of Americans that lose weight gain it right back which is where we come in and change the standards.”

Owner Danielle Hafers, a Franklin resident of 37 years is an active community member. With three kids and her busy husband, Tom Hafers who is owner of USMMA in Bellingham, she knows how hard it can be to make time for herself. She asserted, “I know firsthand what it is like to put your needs on the back burner. Sometimes you just have to stop and understand that in order to be good to everyone else you must be good to yourself.”

Leah Santello, a membership specialist at Thin and Healthy is a Health Educator. She has been in the nutrition and wellness industry for over 10 years. Leah has experience working in hospitals where losing weight can be a life or death matter. Leah has also worked in various fitness clubs devising nutrition programs and teaching toning and fat burning classes. She commented, “I want my members to enjoy every moment of their lives to the fullest, not dread waking up wondering what struggle the day will bring, which is why I chose to be a part of Thin and Healthy. I really do believe it is the total solution for permanent weight loss.”

Instead of watching waistlines increase, along with health related illness, they are devoted to changing how Americans view the importance of their own health. Just in the past month they have been involved in over half a dozen community events and are also reaching out to children with weight issues.

“We are offering incredible specials right now because we want people to look and feel their best for the holidays. Leah has been having a lot of fun getting groups of friends and co workers together to do ‘biggest loser’ type contests. When friends get together to motivate and inspire each other, the results are unbelievable!” says Hafers.

Thin & Healthy’s Total Solution is located at 316 Hartford Ave. in Bellingham, MA. For more information on the program, contact Danielle or Leah at (508) 657-1789 or visit www.thinandhealthy.com

Tarlow Breed Hart & Rodgers P.C.’s Hunt receives honorable mention for Mass. Lawyer’s Weekly’s Unsung Hero Award.

October 30, 2008 //  by admin

BOSTON, MASS.

Christopher Hunt, director of information technology at Boston-based Tarlow Breed Hart & Rodgers, P.C. (TBHR), received an honorable mention in the IT category of Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly’s ‘Unsung Heroes’ for 2008.Chris was one of the finalists in the IT category and was honored at an awards reception held at the Boston Convention Center on October 23.

Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly awards the Unsung Hero honor to someone who has demonstrated outstanding qualities and shown an extra effort in helping his or her company, or someone who has an amazing ability to encourage others.  The Unsung Hero Award also recognizes those who perform internal corporate citizenship and cultivate pride within their companies, and whose exceptional efforts should not go unnoticed or unrewarded.  According to TBHR, Hunt fits these criteria to a “T”.

“Chris is an extremely important part of our operation,” said Jeffrey P. Hart, a partner at TBHR.  “He keeps the computer systems and other IT running smoothly for a 50+ person office, which is a feat unto itself. When you consider the gravity of information we deal with as attorneys, and also factor in the crazy hours we keep, his efforts are even more impressive.  Chris is truly deserving of this recognition.”

Hunt began with the firm in 1995 through the co-operative education program at Northeastern University.  A criminal justice major, he oversaw office services as part of his co-op job, but also demonstrated an aptitude for diagnosing and fixing computers. TBHR quickly recognized these talents – so much so, they hired him to head up their IT efforts upon his graduation.  His role has evolved to encompass not only the firm’s IT needs, but includes litigation support, marketing support and managing the firm’s facilities and records.

“During his time with the firm, Chris successfully implemented two major upgrades of our servers and networking equipment. He also supervised the 2004 relocation of our office from the Financial District to our current location at 101 Huntington Avenue in the Back Bay, working tirelessly to ensure a seamless transition during this significant undertaking,” said Hart.  “Chris is highly thought of by everyone at the firm. As our IT Director, he is an integral part of our team. We are pleased that he has remained with us through the years and that we have had the opportunity to grow together.”

Hunt holds a bachelor’s of science in criminal justice from Northeastern University and is a member of the International Legal Technology Association (ILTA), the leading organization for IT professionals in the legal industry.  Hunt currently resides in Lowell with his wife, Jodi, and his stepson, Brendon.

DirectBuy of NYC provides tips to designing the “perfect kid’s room.”

October 30, 2008 //  by admin

BROOKLYN, QUEENS, WOODSIDE, NEW YORK CITY, NY…

While in the past, a parent yelling, “Go to your room!” may have been some sort of punishment, nowadays it could pass as a reward, depending on the design and furniture selection your child’s room. DirectBuy of Brooklyn and Queens and DirectBuy of Manhattan, the leading members-only showroom and home design centers, not only offer consumers a brand new way to save on home improvement projects, but also offers some helpful tips on designing the perfect kid’s room.

“A child’s bedroom serves as much more than a place for you kids to play. It’s a study, computer room, play room, game room, video/entertainment center and even a guest room,” said Marti Brandt, owner of DirectBuy of Brooklyn and Queens. “By following a few simple guidelines, you can create a room that’s comfortable for them to sleep and play in, but also maximizes the space.”

Some guidelines to follow include:

●        Involve your children in the buying of the furniture and decorating process; it’s their room, after all, and it stands to reason they will be more comfortable with items they helped select.

●        Take into account your child’s age, gender and how long the furniture will be used (e.g. bunk beds might be fun at 12, but at 16 your teenager might want some more space)

●        Only consider bedroom furniture that has quality construction and age-appropriate design. It is also a good idea to bring children along while shopping to make sure the bedding is comfortable.

●        Plan for growth – not just your child getting bigger but acquiring more things and clothing that will need to be stored.

Both DirectBuy of Brooklyn and Queens and DirectBuy of Manhattan carry a large selection of brand-name kids’ furniture at wholesale prices direct from the manufacturers and their authorized suppliers. In addition, DirectBuy employs product specialists and designers who can help parents and children select furniture and accessories to create the look you want for your child’s room.

“Sure, parents might lose a little leverage by sending a child to their room not being seen as a form of punishment,” laughs Brandt. “The upside is that by creating a room that’s a haven for your child, they’ll be happier, which in turn makes parents happier. So everybody wins.”

Consumers interested in becoming DirectBuy members may obtain a Visitor’s Pass to attend an Open House by contacting DirectBuy of Brooklyn and Queens at 718-247-2320, or contacting the showroom co-owners Michael Wiseltier or Marti Brandt at info@directbuybq.com.  For DirectBuy of Manhattan, please contact Co-Owner Mark Brandt at 212-290-3020 or info@directbuynyc.com.

600 pounds to fight hunger…DirectBuy of Suffolk County holds second annual food drive and fall festival

October 29, 2008 //  by admin

HAUPPAUGE, NY…

In today’s economy, most families have to focus on feeding, clothing, and taking care of their own. So when those same families go out of their way to help others in need, the donations are that much more meaningful. On October 25, DirectBuy of Suffolk County held it’s second annual food drive and fall festival, collecting more than 600 lbs of food and supplies for Long Island Cares, the only food bank on Long Island.

In addition to the food drive, members of the Hauppauge-based showroom were treated to a day of fun and festivities.  DirectBuy of Suffolk County is the local branch of DirectBuy, Inc., a home furnishings and remodeling company that allows its members to purchase directly from over 700 brand-name manufacturers and authorized suppliers with no hidden retail mark-up.

“We have run a successful business in Suffolk County for over 18 years” said DirectBuy of Suffolk County president and franchise owner Rob Bengston. “We wanted to celebrate with our loyal members, and do some good at the same time.”

The DirectBuy Suffolk staff chose to support Long Island Cares because currently food banks are desperate for help. Long Island Cares was founded in 1980 by the late singer/activist Harry Chapin in response to the needs of hungry Long Islanders. The leading anti-hunger organization works with other charities to fight hunger in Nassau and Suffolk counties.

“Long Island Cares is a wonderful program and very necessary especially in today’s economical conditions,” said DirectBuy member Purnima Shah, who attended the festival.

DirectBuy’s Suffolk showroom was brightly decorated with ribbons, balloons and more than 40 baskets of gifts that were raffled off to those who brought in non-perishable food or other supplies. The baskets included gifts of cookware, artwork, toys, camping and sporting equipment, movie tickets, theater tickets and giftware.  Children were entertained with balloon art and face painting, and all guests enjoyed trying a variety of dishes throughout the festival.

“This festival is our way of saying thank you to our members,” said DirectBuy of Suffolk County Showroom Manager Myriam Lebron. “We wanted to show we care for our members and also for this great community where we all live.”

“My wife and I have been members of DirectBuy since 1997,” said Robert Meehan. “We came to the showroom today to help celebrate DirectBuy’s association with the charity Long Island Cares. Our membership has been 11 years of profitable and enjoyable experiences for us. The money we have saved is incredible. Thanks to DirectBuy, we have much more money for ourselves. The customer service is second to none.”

South Shore Skin Center Announces Fraxel Laser Treatments for Acne Scarring

October 29, 2008 //  by admin

South Shore Skin Center, one of the most progressive dermatology practices in Massachusetts with offices in Plymouth and Cohasset has recently announced a new cosmetic treatment for acne scarring.

Fraxel re:pair laser technology has been found to be a safer and more effective treatment for reducing the appearance of acne scarring than traditional CO2 lasers. South Shore Skin Center is now offering Fraxel re:pair laser treatments to patients with moderate to severe acne scarring.

Previously, ablative CO2 laser resurfacing was used to treat acne scarring, but the risk of side effects included changes in skin pigmentation; infection; edema; red patches and significant recovery time. With the Fraxel re:pair laser, healing is rapid and recovery time is drastically reduced. The side effects with Fraxel re:pair are minimal and include mild dryness and mild fluid retention.

Fraxel re:pair laser uses the technology of a fractionated laser beam to ablate the tissue deep within the dermis to improve the skin’s appearance by stimulating the body’s natural production of new collagen and skin cells. Patients can obtain results with far less down time than with traditional CO2 lasers.

In a recent study published in Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, patients with acne scarring were given two to three full-face Fraxel re:pair treatments over a period of three months. The study showed that the majority of these patients experienced minimal side effects and were highly satisfied with the outcome of the their treatments.

Dr. Richard Eisen, a board certified dermatologist at South Shore Skin Center and a leading expert in Fraxel re:pair and Fraxel re:store laser systems explained, “Fraxel re:pair is an ideal treatment for acne scarring because it enables deeper penetration into the layers of the skin to erase acne scarring. Fraxel re:pair is safer and more effective than traditional lasers. Patients will begin to see results after the first treatment.”

Fraxel re:pair and re:store laser treatments have been approved by the FDA to treat a variety of cosmetic conditions. South Shore Skin Center is the only provider in the area offering the advanced technology of Fraxel re:pair and Fraxel re:store laser treatments. To schedule a consultation, contact South Shore Skin Center’s Cohasset (781) 383-3340 or Plymouth office (508) 747-0711.

Treating Acne

Acne is caused by overproduction of sebum (oil), which is regulated by hormones, coupled with the obstruction of the pores. People can get acne at any age, but teens are most likely to experience it because it is triggered by hormone changes. While most acne sufferers’ breakouts are not serious and do not result in scarring, at least 40 percent of all cases need to be treated by a physician.

“Acne scarring is most often caused by cystic acne, a severe form of acne. Severe acne is hereditary,” noted Dr. Eisen.

For severe acne that may potentially result in scarring, South Shore Skin Center offers several types of treatment to control it including: Gentle YAG, which is a gentle, safe and effective type of laser treatment; Photodynamic Therapy which uses a light source in conjunction with chemical therapy; and Thermage, which is a minimally invasive procedure that uses radio frequency.

South Shore Skin Center

Founded in 1984, South Shore Skin Center is one of Massachusetts’ most progressive dermatology practices offering a wide range of medical, surgical and cosmetic services.

South Shore Skin Center’s cosmetic services include Fraxel re:pair and re:store; Gentle YAG, innovative Laser, IPL (Intensive Pulse Light), Thermage and treatments for age spots, acne scarring, birth marks, tattoos and more. The practice also offers a full range of affordable anti-aging services including Botox, wrinkle fillers, Microdermabrasion, laser skin resurfacing and chemical peels.

South Shore Skin Center offices are located at 223 Chief Justice Cushing Highway, Suite 202 in Cohasset, Mass. (781) 383-3340, and 45 Resnik Road, Suite 102 in Plymouth, Mass., (508) 747-0711. For more information, visit their website at www.southshoreskincenter.com.

Rodman & Rodman, P.C. Advises Taxpayers of Federal Bailout’s Tax Provisions

October 29, 2008 //  by admin

On October 3, 2008, President Bush signed into law a number of tax provisions which were included among the laws passed related to the bailout and stabilization of the financial markets. Rodman & Rodman, P.C. Certified Public Accountants and Business Strategists catering to small and medium sized companies throughout New England, outlines these tax provisions for taxpayers.

A number of relief provisions have been implemented to prevent middle income taxpayers from falling prey to AMT. These include:

· AMT exemption amount increases to $69,950 for joint filers and $46,200 for single filers.

· Allowing taxpayers to offset various nonrefundable personal credits against AMT, including, the dependent care credit, child tax credit, and Hope and Lifetime Learning credit as well as other credits;

· For taxpayers who exercise incentive stock options, recognizing phantom income for AMT, there has been an extension and expansion of the limited relief.

With regard to charitable provisions:

· The provision allowing taxpayers aged 70 ½ to donate up to $100,000 to public charities from IRA or Roth IRA accounts without recognizing such amounts as taxable income has been extended through 2009.

Other notable provisions:

· Favorable changes have been made to the Alternative Simplified Credit and the Research and Development Credit has been extended through 2009.

· Favorable Depreciation 15 year write-off rules for qualified leasehold, restaurant and retail improvements are extended through 2008.

There are many extensions, modifications and new rules for popular energy credits including:

· The 30 percent Investment Tax Credit for solar energy property is extended through 2016

· The Credit for Residential Solar Property is also extended through 2016 with increased credit caps

· There is now a “Plug In” vehicle tax credit ranging from $2,500 to $7,500 (although the credit is phased out after the 250,000th plug in vehicle has been sold)

· The Energy Efficient Residential credit is extended through 2009 with some additional incentives

· The law allowing taxpayers to deduct certain costs of energy efficient property for commercial buildings is extended through 2013

· The Contractor Construction Energy credit allowing contractors a credit for the construction of energy efficient homes is extended through 2009.

Various revenue raisers have been imposed to offset the above tax incentives such as:

· Brokers are mandated to report to the IRS on transactions involving publicly traded securities, extending the FUTA surtax of .2 percent through 2010 as well as other provisions targeted to specific taxpayers such as energy and oil companies.

“We strongly urge taxpayers to consult with a tax professional if they have any questions about the new tax provisions,” explained Steven P. Rodman, CPA, MST, president of Rodman & Rodman, P.C.

DirectBuy’s very own Jordonna Levin donates to Locks of Love

October 28, 2008 //  by admin

WEST PALM BEACH, FL…

Those who know four-year-old Jordonna Levin recognize her by the beautiful locks that adorn her big brown eyes. Her long brown hair was her trademark and a big topic of conversation amongst her family and friends. So, it was truly a milestone when she decided to donate 10 inches to Locks of Love, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing hairpieces to children suffering from long-term medical hair loss.

Months prior to the donation, mom Jenny Levin, co-owner of DirectBuy of The Palm Beaches, had been trying to get Jordonna to cut her hair. “It was getting so long and unmanageable,” said Jenny.

It was the day before Pre-Kindergarten and only months away from turning five when she decided to make the donation. The decision wasn’t easy for Jordonna when she realized a minimum donation of 10 inches would have to be made. Not only was this a big change for her, but she wasn’t sure how her teacher and friends would react to the new Jordonna.

Knowing that this was an incredibly special event in her daughter’s life, Jenny was filled with emotions the morning of the donation. “Not only did I feel so lucky and blessed to have a healthy, beautiful child, but I really felt the emotions of what the receiving parent would be feeling one day,” said Jenny. “I will now have a strong connection with someone out there that I will never meet.”

DirectBuy of the Palm Beaches Customer Service Specialist Aimee Falvey donated to Locks of Love a year prior to Jordonna’s donation. Both of them have inspired many others to donate in the coming year.

“I am so happy that I cut my hair and donated it to someone who really needs it,” said Jordonna. “I love my new hair, because I look just like Snow White.”

When Jordonna started school the next day, everyone was so amazed by what she had done. After her teacher learned of the donation, she asked Jordonna to speak to the class in hope of encouraging others to donate as well.

Jordonna’s father, Stephen Levin, co-owner of DirectBuy of The Palm Beaches, hopes his daughter’s brave actions will inspire others. “I am very proud of my little lady. Not only does she look like one, but her new haircut makes her feel like one inside.”

Locks of Love

Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. Locks of Love meets a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses they provide help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers. To find out how you can help support this special effort, contact Locks of Love through their website www.locksoflove.com or email at info@locksoflove.org.

Capitulo is a certified interior designer from British Columbia Institute of Technology. She started with DirectBuy of Greater Vancouver in July.

“Pamela is an absolutely wonderful addition to our staff. She’s a very talented designer and has a great way with the customers,” said Peter Ruetz, owner of DirectBuy of Greater Vancouver. “Having an additional full-time designer on staff on-site gives members a resource to get answers to their questions and has dramatically improved the turnaround in getting a design to our members.”

The types of kitchen designs requested by members can range from traditional to modern. Said Capitulo, “The members I’ve worked with aren’t afraid to be a little adventurous with their kitchen designs, creatively utilizing the space with things like warming drawers, multiple dishwashers, a regular fridge and a wine fridge, etc. As a designer, that gives you a chance to let your hair down and that’s when you can really do your best work.”

Since 1971, DirectBuy franchises have offered members the opportunity to enjoy enormous savings on home furnishings, home improvement items, entertainment and outdoor products and accessories by buying wholesale, directly from the manufacturer. With four convenient locations in the greater Vancouver area (Victoria, Vancouver, Coquitlam, and Kelowna), consumers can enjoy a comfortable, country-club setting, where they finally have the financial control of buying direct.
