OCES Announces Special Holiday Menus in December for Community Dining and Meals on Wheels Recipients

December 8, 2022 //  by admin

BROCKTON, PLYMOUTH AND WAREHAM, MA… Old Colony Elder Services (OCES), the non-profit agency proudly serving older adults and individuals with disabilities throughout greater Plymouth County and surrounding towns, has announced special holiday meals will be offered at Community Dining sites and home delivered to Meals on Wheels recipients in December.

On Friday, December 23, 2022, OCES has planned a delicious Holiday Meal featuring roast beef with gravy, mashed potatoes, honey glazed carrots and a snowflake roll along with apple crisp for dessert.

This special Holiday Meal will also be served at Community Dining sites and a Grab & Go Holiday Meal option will also be available at designated congregate meal sites by signing up in advance with the local Council on Aging.

For the third year in a row, Covanta will provide special Holiday Meals and OCES will deliver them to older adult consumers in the Nutrition program at the Wareham Council on Aging (COA) and to all residents of the Wareham Housing Authority. OCES cannot thank Covanta enough for their ongoing support.

Nutrition Program
OCES’ Nutrition Program, which consists of Meals on Wheels, Community Dining, and Grab & Go meals, is critical to many older adults. Through OCES’ Nutrition Program, hundreds of nutritious meals are delivered each day to adults age 60+ living within 23 communities in greater Plymouth County. These “Meals on Wheels” are essential, nutritionally-sound and satisfying meals planned by a nutritionist. With the help of hundreds of volunteers, the meals are delivered to individual homes. For many of OCES’ most vulnerable older adults and individuals with disabilities, the delivery is not only a delicious meal, it is often the only social contact of the day. A connection to the community through Meals on Wheels is also a safety check to make sure these individuals are okay.

Meals on Wheels and Community Dining menus are published in COA newsletters and on OCES’ website at https://www.ocesma.org/nutrition-menu/.

For a list of Community Dining meal sites, visit https://www.ocesma.org/community-dining/. Please call the meal site to make a reservation.

For more information about Meals on Wheels or Community Dining, call OCES at (508) 584-1561.

Please note menus are subject to change.

Maryland legalizes “Mary Jane”. Home grow sprouts.

December 6, 2022 //  by admin

Maryland voters, 66% of them, enthusiastically voted “yes” to legalize cannabis.  Now they face a two year time lag before even the first recreational dispensary is open to the public.

Thus, the initial frontier of legalized cannabis use for is “home grow.” The initiative will allow adults to grow up to two cannabis plants in their home, out of the public view, starting July 1, 2023.

Cannabis remains illegal in Maryland until July, 2023. Currently, possession of up to 10 grams of marijuana carries a $100 civil fine. Decriminalization will be expanded up to 1.5 ounces from Jan. 1 to June 30.

“Sorting out the tax considerations, the application process, the licensing selection and building out of dispensaries has typically taken two or more years in the other early adopter states,” noted Eric Robichaud, CEO of Green Goddess Supply, a leading supplier to the cannabis industry.

Robichaud added, “Most cannabis consumers don’t want to deal with red tape or politics.  They just want high quality, clean, organic bud at home quickly, easily and inexpensively.”

To help fill in the gap for cannabis consumers, Green Goddess Supply offers greatly simplified home grow systems. Most newcomers to cannabis cultivation are overwhelmed by the process – bugs, odor, mold and general complexity are the common enemy of the new grower.  But Green Goddess Supply offers a Concierge Service that’s designed for beginners, coupled with several fully-equipped, turnkey home grow systems that tremendously simplify the process.

“The Armoire” is an award-winning home grow system which is designed to look like furniture and meld nicely into any home décor, while making it very easy for anyone to start growing at home, no experience necessary.  Additionally, the company offers the new ATS-42 Grow Tent System is a complete kit that contains all of the hardware you need to start growing.

“Growing your own should be a simple, fun adventure,” asserted Robichaud.  “From turnkey systems to live, concierge advisors, we help consumers save money and grow high quality cannabis. Easily.”

OCES has been awarded an Elder Mental Health Outreach Team Grant. The agency is expanding older adults’ access to behavioral health services and supports.

December 5, 2022 //  by admin

BROCKTON AND PLYMOUTH, MA… Old Colony Elder Services (OCES), the non-profit agency proudly serving older adults and individuals with disabilities throughout greater Plymouth County and surrounding towns, has been awarded an Elder Mental Health Outreach Team (EMHOT) grant from the Massachusetts Councils on Aging (MCOA). Funding for EMHOT has been produced from a grant awarded to the Massachusetts Association of Councils on Aging by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs.

With this funding, OCES is expanding their scope of in-home services to include behavioral health services and support for older adults who may be isolated or encounter barriers that limit access to behavioral health care.

Deana Andrade, LICSW and OCES’ Behavioral Health Supervisor will oversee these services and the EMHOT program as the agency expands to provide these critical services.

OCES’ EMHOT is trained to support individuals coping with a variety of behavioral health issues. The team is skilled in assessing individuals 60 years of age and older for risk and symptoms that may affect their ability to achieve a positive sense of health and wellness. The Team is trained to use the industry’s best practice methods for assessment, interaction, and interventions.

OCES’ EMHOT supports older adults 60 and older who have complex behavioral health conditions, chronic illness, substance misuse, or who are in crisis situations that may require counseling or long-term case management to improve overall wellbeing.

OCES provides support, referrals, and resources on a case-by-case basis. The agency began accepting EMHOT referrals in November.

“We would like to thank Massachusetts Councils on Aging for this generous grant which essentially enables OCES to expand in-home services and provide older adults access to behavioral health services and supports,” explained Nicole Long, CEO of OCES.

OCES provides vital information, resources, and coordination of services that promote healthy and safe living, and which aid their consumers in staying active and engaged in their lives and in their own communities for as long as possible.

To learn more about OCES’ services, call 508-584-1561 or visit www.ocesma.org.

The “Why” of Type One Fitness
Type One Fitness is a boutique fitness center with a unique focus on diabetes wellness that is open to everyone. Type One Fitness provides a place where the type 1 diabetes community can find support for the autoimmune disease and end the stigma of what type 1 diabetes is and who it affects through education and awareness programming. Type One Fitness provides a fully integrated health program for type 1 diabetes patients and the general public. The center offers a place for real time conversation and education for those living with type 1 diabetes. A place that improves the lives of others in the community by offering support not only for individuals with diabetes, but also for parents and caregivers, partners, siblings and friends as well. Outside of a medical facility, there is currently no facility that welcomes and merges a comprehensive type 1 diabetes connection with the general public. Type One Fitness does just that while enabling those affected by the disease to obtain any non-medical support that they need.

Type One Fitness is the brainchild of Type One, Inc. founders Paul Foti and Tyson Sunnerberg. Sunnerberg was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was 21 years old and knows firsthand that the right resources and support make all the difference in the world when it comes to managing this disease. Five years ago, at the age of five, Sunnerberg’s daughter Elyse was also diagnosed with type 1, which intensified his drive toward a cure, and provided a firsthand understanding of the constant challenges the entire family faces when living with an individual with type 1 diabetes.

Offering fitness, nutrition and support, the center is open Monday – Thursday 5:30 – 11 AM and 2 – 7 PM, Friday 5:30 – 11 AM and 2 – 5 PM, and Saturday – Sunday 8 AM – 12 PM.

“Show Us Your Electric Bill” –  Plymouth Solar Energy expands Commercial Division and offers Solar Feasibility Study.

Commercial Solar

November 17, 2022 //  by admin

Fred Paris, solar energy pioneer and a respected industry expert, is getting ready for an explosion of commercial solar energy projects. Paris’s company, Plymouth Solar Energy, based in Plymouth, MA, expanded their Commercial Solar team to include structural engineering.

“Renewable energy systems on commercial buildings require a full spectrum of resources,” Paris said. “The commercial team’s strengths now include electrical, solar, and construction expertise working together to design and install commercial solar.”

“We are entering a period where the rising cost of energy and declining cost of solar have shortened the payback period significantly,” Paris added. “And since commercial solar is always a financial decision, short payback for high-performance solar make these projects more viable than ever.”

High-performance solar is more than a marketing term, asserts Paris. He expanded, “Commercial buildings may have flat, pitched, metal or rubber roofing in various states of repair. In the past we would advise an owner to fix the roof, and we would return at a later date. This added months of setback and loss of project control. If the building is more than ten years old, the roof typically needs some work. Having these skills in-house is advantageous in both time and the quality of construction.”

Paris continued, “Having people that focus on commercial solar allows us to a complete turnkey package. For example, we might seal a metal roof project with a reflective silicone membrane – not just sealing the roof but offering both thermal and reflective attributes – increasing albedo (reflection) and lowering rooftop temperature. Lower temperatures and more light increase solar production and serve to cool the entire building.”

As electrical rates continue to climb, the payback period for commercial solar investment is getting shorter. With Federal solar tax credits up to 30% and, with 80% bonus depreciation in 2023, things are looking good for commercial solar.

As Owner of Plymouth Solar Energy and an educator/trainer, Paris founded the Wind Sun Institute to deliver certification training to solar energy installers. Paris taught solar energy in the US and Canada, and subsequently wrote solar courses for Massasoit Community College. While teaching Strategic Planning at Northeastern, Paris formed Plymouth Solar Energy, hiring and staffing the company with students from his solar energy courses.

Plymouth Solar Energy is offering a complimentary Solar Feasibility Study for commercial building owners and managers.  The objective and informational study includes a structural analysis of the building, utility bill analysis to determine current power usage, and irradiant roof analysis to measure the integrity to accommodate solar panels.

Plymouth Solar Energy is located at 18 Main Street Extension, Plymouth, MA 02360. For more info, visit www.PlymouthSolarEnergy.com . For a complimentary Solar Feasibility Study or questions, call (508) 746-5430 or email info@plymouthsolarenergy.com .

Grow Tent line sprouts. Green Goddess Supply expands concierge committed home grow options.

November 16, 2022 //  by admin

Green Goddess Supply, producer of the award-winning home grow system called “The Armoire” which is designed to look like furniture and meld nicely into any home décor, has sprouted a new line of Grow Tents to expand the company’s concierge committed home grow options.

The new ATS-42 Grow Tent System is a complete kit that contains all of the hardware you need to start growing — just add seed, soil and water!  The system includes a super high quality tent with thick, sturdy 22mm poles and a super thick 2000D woven nylon fabric (many tents on the market are a looser weave, lighter weight 600D fabric).  The tent is 4′ wide, 2′ deep and 6′ tall (48″ x 24″ x 72″). The MSRP for the entire system is $1,200.

This kit contains not one, but TWO independently controllable grow lights (our own proprietary Unicorn Series LED grow lights), 2 internal fans, 1 external exhaust fan with LCD Controller Module, carbon scrubber (air filter), 2 fabric grow pots, 2 plastic 17″ plant saucers, a light timer, power strip / surge suppressor, a padlock and UV-400 protective glasses.

Although you can do whatever you want with the hardware once you get it home, this entire kit was designed to support Green Goddess Supply’s own proprietary “High Yield + Easy Grow Autoflower Protocol” that makes it super easy for anyone to get an average of 1/4lb of flower per-plant in as little as 60 days (with folks often getting double that, per plant).

Easy Setup

Getting started with our tent kit easy. Included are illustrated instructions for setting up the tent itself, and step-by-step instructions for installing the fans and lights.

The whole process takes about 30 minutes, no tools required. Then it’s as easy as plugging in the power, planting your seeds, and adding water.

But remember – if you have any problems with setting up the system, we have detailed FAQs, helpful videos, and our Concierge Support Team will happily jump on a call and walk you through the process.

Optimization

The ATS-42 home grow system is optimized to cultivate auto-flowering strains and consistently produce eye-popping yields every cycle, with minimal fuss by following our “High Yield + Easy Grow Autoflower Protocol.”

Not sure what Autoflowers are? No worries – Green Goddess Supply is there to help. Grow concierges will point you in the right direction to find appropriate, high quality seeds, and more.

Not your granddaddy’s tent.

There are several problems with old-school grow tents that sow confusion and fear: they’re complicated, large, and can be overwhelming to figure out.

This is why Green Goddess created this new, improved grow tent.  The ATS-42 grow tent is an easy-to-use, low maintenance growing and nurturing system that gives you impressive results in a quick and consistent time frame, and includes all of the components (fans, lights, tent, and more) so you don’t have to figure anything out on your own.

And if you’re ever confused or concerned, the Concierge Service is designed to hand-hold you through the process!

Results are quick and impressive. Go from sprout to harvest in as little as 60 days and consistently grow a quarter pound or more of yield per plant, pulling between a half pound and a full pound, each cycle! The system needs only 2 minutes of attention a day for incredible results.

Rookies wanted. From Sprout to Harvest in as little as 60 days.

If you’ve grown before and know what you’re doing, you’ll be off to the races with this complete system. But if you’ve never grown before, fear not!

The Green Goddess easy-to-use grow systems come complete with Concierge Service that’s designed for beginners! Green Goddess doesn’t believe medicine should be just for those who can afford it – we’re on a mission to empower everyone and anyone to be able to grow their own at home themselves, quickly, easy, and inexpensively.

95% of our Green Goddess customers have never grown before, and they’re getting amazing results.

Kingston theater production of “Auntie Mame” to Help Local Hospital.

Auntie Mame

November 15, 2022 //  by admin

Two local theatre companies are joining forces to bring Auntie Mame to the stage this holiday season.  Rogue Theatre Company and True Repertory Theatre will be co-producing this much loved, rarely done, classic comedy.  Auntie Mame, which enjoyed a lengthy Broadway run as both a play, and later a musical, and popular film versions of each, enjoys an almost cult like following.

Auntie Mame will be presented at The Beal House, 222 Main Street, Kingston, on December 9 and 10, at 8:00 PM; December 11 at 6:30 PM; and December 11, 17, and 18 at 2:00 PM.

“Those that know the show, passionately love it,” says Victoria Bond, whose mother was such a fan.  “My mother was waiting for me to play Auntie Mame, unfortunately, she passed away before we were able to do the show,” explains Bond.  Her mother, who battled Frontotemporal Dementia, was a patient at the Senior Behavioral Health Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Lahey Hospital in Plymouth, who cared for her until her passing in January of 2020.  $5.00 of every ticket will be donated to the unit that cared for her mother.  “I will finally be playing Auntie Mame – it’s my way of celebrating my mother and thanking the kind people at BID that cared for her.”

Donald Sheehan, the founder and artistic director of True Repertory Theatre says, “Our theatre companies are like-minded, in that we both try to give back to the community.  We have our project 719 community outreach program that regularly tries to give back to the local community and we are happy to be a part of this unique collaboration.”  Paul Noonan, an artistic advisor with True Rep remarked, “So many families have to confront cognitive failures and everyone in the cast is proud to be working on this project, to not only raise money for a local resource, but to help raise awareness of the issue.”

The story revolves around young Patrick Dennis who loses his father and goes to live with his eccentric Auntie Mame in New York City, where he becomes a part of her madcap life. The show will be directed by Donald Sheehan, who said of the production,

“This is a fast-paced, funny show with a lot of characters and locations.  It gives us an opportunity to be creative and I think audiences will love Auntie Mame.” Adds Victoria Bond, “She is someone who believes in loving life and living it to the fullest — I can’t think of a better message right now. As Auntie Mame says, “Yes! Live! Life’s a banquet and most poor suckers are starving to death!”

The cast includes Victoria Bond (Plymouth), Chris Bailey (Plymouth), Donald Sheehan (Pembroke), Meredith Johnson (North Attleboro), Scotty Kippenham (Rockland), Brian Kenerson (Bridgewater), James Sullivan (Braintree), Mark Reed (Hull), Jennifer Serowick (Scituate), Thomas McCoy (Marshfield), Emily Waystack (Dorchester), and Anthea Dimond of Kingston will stage manage.

Auntie Mame will be presented at The Beal House, 222 Main Street, Kingston, on December 9 and 10, at 8:00 PM; December 11 at 6:30 PM; and December 11, 17, and 18 at 2:00 PM.

Tickets are $25 for general admission and $22 for seniors and students and may be purchased at the door or through the True Rep website, https://www.truereptheatre.com/shows.

A New Urgent Care Model has evolved at Plymouth Pediatric Associates

November 10, 2022 //  by admin

Plymouth Pediatric Associates (“PPA”) is pleased to announce the launch of a new Urgent Care model that offers patients visits for illness or injury that is overseen by a dedicated physician. Unlike other pediatric clinics, PPA’s model creates a more cohesive healthcare experience for urgent visits. Dr. Marietta Calisto-Cooney, a long-time physician at PPA, is leading the new model.

Dr. Calisto-Cooney has shifted her focus to the support and oversight of the Urgent Care team, allowing her passion for educating to shine. This new Urgent Care model is staffed by a team of nurse practitioners and the lead physician. With this approach, Dr. Calisto-Cooney has the flexibility to spend more time with patients and their families and provide assistance for more complicated situations. Most importantly, with PPA’s mission to treat the whole child, Dr. Calisto-Cooney now acts as the bridge between the patient’s primary care physician and the Urgent Care team, developing a seamless patient experience. “This is my opportunity to marry my two passions together, caring for my patients and teaching”, Dr. Calisto-Cooney said. “Our staff truly bends over backward for patients and will go above and beyond in many cases. Our culture, as a whole, is supportive and caring, which makes PPA stand out to me. It feels great to be a part of this team and know that your peers are on the same page as you.”

For Plymouth Pediatric Associates, this unique Urgent Care model is the newest addition to the specialty services they provide. As the region’s only Preferred Boston Children’s Primary Care Practice, PPA provides patients and their families access to a large network of specialists, leading research, and treatments. Urgent care appointments are available 363 days a year at PPA. The facility has a separate waiting area and separate exam rooms used solely for urgent care. Located at 148 Industrial Park Road in Plymouth, their patients are welcomed into a state-of-the-art building and comfortable open area dedicated to their needs.

Plymouth Pediatric Associates puts the individual first and is committed to bringing the best, individualized treatment plan to each patient and family. Providing extraordinary care, close to home.

For over 70 years, Plymouth Pediatric Associates has been providing Plymouth, Sandwich, and the surrounding communities with full-service, primary care for newborns to young adults. Offering services from Routine Physicals, same-day Urgent Care, Immunizations, and Integrated Behavioral Health.
