PLYMOUTH, MA…
In its first year, the Run for Faith took place right before and during Hurricane Irene. Nearly 100 runners and volunteers braved the storm for a successful first year. In gearing up its second run, set for Sunday, August 19 at 9am, Run for Faith, Inc., the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that organizes the race, is looking for volunteers to help before, during and after the race—hopefully without too much interference from Mother Nature.
“It was beyond description the effort our volunteers put in last year, particularly in the face of what became a hurricane,” said Matthew Romboldi, race organizer and son of Faith “Marcy” Romboldi, for whom the race is dedicated. “We need help in all areas of this year’s run. Whether you’re a runner, related to a runner, or just want to be part of a fun event that helps raise money for local charities and an exceptional facility— Dana Farber’s Yawkey Center for Cancer Care—then we can sure use your help.”
Volunteers are needed to man registration tables, water stations and other day-of-race functions. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Matthew Romboldi at 508-400-0751 or info@runforfaithplymouth.org.
The Run for Faith 4Miler is a a gold member in the Bayside Runner Racing Series. The four mile race starts at Plimouth Plantation at 9am on Sunday August 19. The 4 mile race loop captures spectacular views of Cape Cod Bay, the Eel River and scenic horse farms. The course features rolling hills and unmatched history.
The event will be professionally timed by Spitler Racing Systems. There will also be a Stroller Division, so runners can run with their young children. Entry fee is $25 and part of the proceeds will go to scholarships for Plymouth high school students, Dana Farber and other Plymouth charities and non-profits.
The first Run for Faith resulted in two $2,500 scholarships for local Plymouth high school students—Graham Allen from Plymouth South High School and Nathan Fuller from Plymouth North High School. The Run for Faith also donated $5000 to the aforementioned Yawkey Center, as well as contributions to the Plymouth Public Library and other Plymouth charities.
Prizes will go to top finishers, male and female, and awards will be given to top finishers for various age groups. Post-race “light refreshments” will include bananas, oranges, bagels, muffins and scones. To amuse younger family members, a jumpy house will be available. A number of vendors will be on hand to sell their wares before and after the race.
The Run for Faith is organized by Run for Faith, Inc., which is 501(c)(3) non-profit organization created to commemorate the special life of Faith “Marcy” Romboldi who gave so much of herself to both individuals and the community.
