Special deliveries – G-Force Shipping honors carriers with “Ship Shape” awards.

May 10, 2011 //  by admin

HANOVER, MASSACHUSETTS…

We can all agree that the best shipments are the ones that arrive on time and in one piece. Yet there are some carriers who achieve that standard and then some, time and again. G-Force Shipping, a non-asset based, third-party logistics provider based in Hanover, MA, salutes those carriers with the 2011 “Ship Shape” awards.

“In working with more than 80 carriers, we hear a number of tremendous stories from customers about how so many of the carriers they work with do a fantastic job,” said Gordie Macfarlane, president of G-Force Shipping. “With the Ship Shape awards, manufacturers, distributors, dealers and the general public have the opportunity to do a little more than say thank you for the great work these carriers do.”

The Ship Shape awards honor carriers in three separate categories:

  • Best Carrier– Self explanatory, the Best Carrier goes to the freight company who performed the best over the past calendar year, 2010. Areas of consideration: price, transit time, condition of delivery, customer service.
  • Most Dependable – This goes to the carrier who consistently meets transit times with the least amount of claims.
  • Shipper’s Shipper – This honor goes to the carrier who, on one particular occasion, went above and beyond the call to ensure the safe and on time arrival of a shipment.  This is a chance for you to tell us your best stories!

Manufacturers, dealers, distributors and the general public can nominate a carrier by e-mailing your nomination to info@gforceship.com. Employees of nominated carriers are not eligible to vote.

As part of the nomination form, voters can contribute a brief, 250-word testimonial on behalf of the carrier. The most compelling testimonial, as determined by G-Force customer representatives, will win a $100 credit towards their next shipment using G-Force.

The winners will be selected on July 1, 2011 and announced on www.gforceship.com.

G-Force Shipping provides manufacturers, dealers and distributors with an easy-to-use, Web-based shipping utility, www.GForceship.com, which delivers instant quotes and multiple carrier choices in seconds. There’s no long-term commitment. Access to a free online account or a toll-free number is all G-Force customers need. The only fees associated with an account are those directly connected to the shipping costs.

For more information, please call 877-7-GFORCE or visit www.gforceship.com.

Part(s) of the solution. A finely tuned machine for shipping time-critical equipment and replacement parts…G-Force Shipping announces Industrial Machinery Products division.

April 27, 2011 //  by admin

HANOVER, MASSACHUSETTS…

Chances are when a customer orders a compressor, pump or other piece of industrial machinery, they need it yesterday—usually for a repair critical to their operation. Those deliveries can be anything from a small part, to a 600-pound pump, to a 7,000-pound air compressor. To best accommodate deliveries of that broad of a nature, G-Force Shipping, a third-party logistics provider, has created an Industrial Machinery division.

Part of G-Force’s reasoning for introducing this Machinery division stems from how manufacturers ship these products. Typically, the manufacturer will have its own fleet of trucks for shipping—and the expense that goes along with that—or it will employ a third-party company to drop-ship items. With G-Force’s new division, manufacturers have the convenience of the drop-ship alternative with improved tracking capabilities and follow-up from a seasoned staff of shipping experts.

“When it comes to delivery of industrial machinery, time is literally money because these items are used to repair something needed for the operation of a company. So, the follow through on getting that shipment delivered on time and without incident is critical,” said Gordie Macfarlane, president of G-Force Shipping. “With this special division and the easy to access web-based tools we offer, manufacturers and dealers can track multiple shipments from start to finish without the heartburn of sorting through multiple carriers’ websites and shipping documents.”

G-Force’s Jason McDonough will lead the Industrial Machinery Division. The benefits this new division provides manufacturers and distributors include:

  • Consultation on National Motor Freight Classifications (NMFC’s) – G-Force Shipping offers customer service assistance and resources to properly classify industrial machinery shipments, ranging from Class 50 items to Class 500. G-Force will also dispute any charges on customers’ behalf if the shipment is re-classified.
  • Proper placement of shipment – Via Web site or customer service representative,        G-Force works with carriers to make sure that industrial machinery is not stacked in the truck to prevent claims.
  • Insurance – Some industrial machinery shipments will require a higher insurance value than others. G-Force can provide information and recommendations to ensure the shipment has the appropriate liability coverage.
  • Carrier Specific Services and Fees – G-Force’s knowledge of the pricing and capabilities of more than 80 carriers is a resource that is available to Industrial Machinery customers.
  • Cost savings – G-Force customers spend more than $100 million with its carrier partners, which can be leveraged to provide optimal savings –  typically, saving  its customers up to  15 percent.

“Industrial machinery companies face a great number of challenges and there’s a real pressure for deliveries to be on-time and mistake-free,” said Macfarlane. “With this new division, manufacturers and their distributors have a 24/7 resource to ensure the safe, timely and cost-effective shipment of their machinery.”

In addition to its services tailored toward wholesale industrial machinery companies, G-Force Shipping provides all its customers an easy-to-use, web-based shipping utility, www.GForceship.com, which delivers instant quotes and multiple carrier choices in seconds. There’s no long-term commitment. Access to a free on-line account or a toll free number is all G-Force customers need. The only fees associated with an account are those directly connected to the shipping costs.

‘A natural selection’ – G-Force Shipping announces natural products division.

March 7, 2011 //  by admin

HANOVER, MASSACHUSETTS…

Nowadays, people are trying to live a greener, healthier lifestyle. While a smaller carbon footprint and longer life might be two long-term goals for individuals, successful companies in this industry strive for safe and affordable shipping. With manufacturers and distributors challenged by the growing demand of the natural products industry, G-Force Shipping, a third-party logistics provider, has responded in turn by creating a natural products division.

“Natural products can cover a broad range of items, anything from natural whole foods to raw materials like spices, herbs, oils and botanicals,” said Gordie Macfarlane, president of G-Force Shipping. “LTL shippers have to not only be cognizant of how these items are shipped, but what they are shipped with and that all their products are classified appropriately”

G-Force’s Eddie White will lead the Natural Products Division. The benefits that new division provides natural products companies include:

  • Consultation on National Motor Freight Classification– G-Force Shipping offers customer service assistance and resources to properly classify natural products shipments, ranging from Class 50 items to Class 500. G-Force will also dispute any charges on customers’ behalf if the shipment is re-classified.
  • Screening carrier cargo for toxic items – Via Web site or customer service rep, G-Force can verify that any natural product shipments are kept separate from any toxic products that could potentially contaminate your goods while in transit.
  • Direct Point A to Point B shipping – Many smaller companies will deal with a single or a few select shipping companies, and in some cases are unaware that said shipping company interlines the shipment. This can create delays and possibly compromise the well-being of a natural products shipment. With more than 80 carrier partners, customers can select the best shipping service available for that specific lane along with the confidence that they know who is handling their shipment.
  • Coordinating warehousing – G-Force can arrange warehouse accommodations as a means for companies to reduce costly cross-country deliveries and longer delivery times (e.g. arranging warehousing for a Florida-based company in the Midwest for west coast deliveries).
  • Direct consultation services – G-Force’s knowledge of the pricing and capabilities of more than 80 carriers is a resource that is available to natural products customers.
  • Cost savings – G-Force customers spend more than $100 million with its carrier partners. G-Force can often leverage that buying power to provide optimal savings. Typically, G-Force can save its natural products customers in the 15 percent range.

“Natural products manufacturers face a great number of challenges. Many are based in rural parts of the U.S.  where getting from Point A to Point B is not always a straight line,” said Macfarlane. “With this new division, natural products manufacturers have a 24/7 resource to ensure the safe, timely and cost-effective shipment of their goods.”

In addition to its services tailored toward natural products companies, G-Force Shipping provides all its customers an easy-to-use, Web-based shipping utility, www.GForceship.com, which delivers instant quotes and multiple carrier choices in seconds. A small craft advisory… G-Force Shipping announces water sport division.

February 7, 2011 //  by admin

HANOVER, MASSACHUSETTS…

Over the past few years, water sports like paddle boarding and kayaking have seen exponential growth. For small to mid-size dealers and distributors, the increased demand breeds logistical challenges that can impact profits if not handled correctly. In response to the specialized needs of paddleboard, kayaks and other small craft companies, G-Force Shipping, a third-party logistics provider based in Hanover, MA recently announced the formation of a new water sports division.

“Small craft items like kayaks and paddle boards create some shipping challenges based on their length and their composition,” said Gordie Macfarlane, president of G-Force Shipping. “With our new water sports division, small shops and dealers have a dedicated shipping department/freight consultant and more than 80 carriers at their disposal on our Web site to help tailor a shipping solution to best meet their needs.”

G-Force’s Bob Howard will lead the Water Sports Division. The benefits that new division provides small craft companies include:

  • Direct Point A to Point B shipping – Many smaller companies will deal with one shipping company and in some cases are unaware that said shipping company subcontracts the shipment. This can create delays and major confusion in the event of a claim. With more than 80 carrier partners, customers can select the best shipping service available for that specific lane along with the confidence that their shipment – from point-of-pick-up to point-of-delivery – will be handled by the same carrier.
  • Avoiding costs based on size – Many shipping companies charge extra based on length. With G-Force’s knowledge of the industry, customers can avoid those extra charges by using carriers that do not penalize for additional length. G-Force can also recommend the companies known for following best practices when boxing shipments.
  • Coordinating warehousing – G-Force can arrange warehouse accommodations as a means for companies to reduce costly cross-country deliveries and longer delivery times (e.g. arranging warehousing for a Florida-based company in the Midwest for west coast deliveries).
  • Direct consultation services – G-Force’s knowledge of the pricing and capabilities of more than 80 carriers is a resource that is available to Water Sports customers.
  • Cost savings – G-Force customers spend more than $100 million with its carrier partners. G-Force can often leverage that fact to provide optimal savings. Typically, G-Force can save its water sports customers in the 15 percent range.

“My shipments typically consist of one to four stand-up paddleboards. The one element that stands out for me is the customer service of  Bob Howard.  He is very professional, very quick in getting back to me on shipping quotes, and provides the lowest prices,” said Mitzi Archer, owner of Yolo Board L.L.C. in Santa Rosa, Florida. “After obtaining quotes from five freight brokers over the years, I am currently using G-force exclusively.”

In addition to its services tailored toward water sports companies, G-Force Shipping provides all its customers an easy-to-use, Web-based shipping utility, www.GForceship.com, which delivers instant quotes and multiple carrier choices in seconds. There’s no long-term commitment. Access to a free on-line account or a toll free number is all G-Force customers need. New wrinkles to moving scams.

May 11, 2010 //  by admin

BRAINTREE, MA…

Next to losing your job and divorce, moving is one of the more stressful things you can do in life. In addition to all the logistics and the emotional turmoil of changing where it is you will live your life, moving scams add fuel to an already raging fire. That’s why new moving scams involving “guaranteed” quotes, packing materials and moving size measurements have created a raging inferno.

How big? The Better Business Bureau reported more than 8400 complaints against moving companies in 2009. According to Boston Pack and Ship, a small load shipping company based in Braintree, Massachusetts, even if you know nothing about the moving industry, you can avoid moving scams—even the latest ones—by doing a just a little homework and applying common sense.

“Buyer beware, if it sounds too good to be true, and any number of clichés apply when hiring a moving company,” said Joe Fell, co-owner of Boston Pack and Ship. “New or old, you can avoid most of the scams by only working with companies who are referred to you by people you know, getting a minimum of three bids and making sure the moving company is local and has a physical address at one end of the move or the other.”

Continued Fell, “A little research on moving scams on sites like movingscam.com can also make you aware of the dangers out there, especially some of the newer ones.”

Those newer ones include:

  • Guaranteed quote, wrong estimate – This is when the mover gives you a binding quote or flat rate. If that quote is based on faulty information—they forgot to add in that small bedroom downstairs—then the ‘guaranteed’ quote changes. The fix? Never sign off on a quote unless the mover does an onsite, visual inspection of everything that is to be moved—then get it in writing as a guaranteed quote.
  • Packing material charges – Ideally, you pack everything yourself. But if you run out of time and/or boxes, having the moving company pack your remaining items can be quite costly—especially if it’s not an ethical firm. Wrapping boxes with yards of tape per box, packing boxes with one item and paper filling for the rest of are just a few of the ways movers can jack up the price of materials. Do yourself a favor and leave plenty of time for packing.
  • Know what you are buying – Many reputable moving companies provide estimates in cubic feet, which is a term not many people are familiar with. It refers to the amount of space your stuff takes up. If you are not familiar with cubic feet, do not be afraid to ask questions until you have a thorough understanding. As a side note, remember that cubic feet can be converted into pounds (much like feet can be converted into meters). If you’re having trouble understanding your estimate, ask for it in a measure you can understand.

“Moving scams have been around since the cavemen. While there is no one way to protect yourself 100 percent, the best course is if you’re unsure or uneasy, always opt for the mover who was referred to you by trusted family or friends,” said Fell.

Boston Pack and Ship specializes in moves of 1,000 pounds or less. In addition, it offers customized package and custom crate building services at its workshop in Braintree. For items like computer equipment, artwork and other fragile items, Boston Pack and Ship employs foam-in-place technology to “lock” those items in place and limit movement within the package.

Sharing the spotlight…Boston Pack and Ship donates boxes and packing supplies to Cape Cod Cares For Our Troops’ Memorial Day event.

May 29, 2009 //  by admin

BRAINTREE, MA and BREWSTER, MA…

On May 25, Memorial Day, Cape Cod Cares For Our Troops held its 5th annual Spotlight on the Troops at the K-Mart Plaza on Route 132 in Hyannis. In addition to honoring U.S. service men and women at the event, Cape Cod Cares For Our Troops collected items for care packages to be sent to troops serving overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan. Boston Pack and Ship, a Braintree-based small load shipping specialist, donated 200 boxes and packing supplies towards this effort.

Cape Cod Cares For Our Troops is a non-profit organization started by 15-year-old Dylan DeSilva of Brewster, Mass. Dylan wanted to find a way to honor U.S. Troops for their service and sacrifice to our country. With the help of his family and friends, he sends care packages to our Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan on a weekly basis. The Spotlight on the Troops is just one of the vehicles Cape Cod Cares For Our Troops holds to generate awareness and collect donations.

“Good things may come in small packages, but without the packages, we can’t collect or send anything anywhere. So we really appreciate Boston Pack and Ship’s generous donation as some of those were used to collect donations at the Spotlight on the Troops event and the rest will be used to ship the care packages overseas,” said DeSilva.

Donating to Cape Cod Cares For Our Troops is not a new endeavor for Boston Pack and Ship. The Braintree-based packing and shipping company also donated boxes to Cape Cod Cares For Our Troops holiday effort in which more than 500 care packages were sent to troops overseas.

“When we heard Dylan’s story, it wasn’t a question of would we help, but how much could we help,” said Joe Fell, co-owner of Boston Pack and Ship. “By donating boxes for the event and the mailing, as well as selling additional boxes at cost, we’re hopefully doing our part in keeping this very worthwhile effort going.”

For people who would like to contribute items for the care packages, Cape Cod Cares For Our Troops’ Web site, www.capecod4thetroops.com, contains a complete list of personal, food and other useful items you can donate. Interested parties can donate at the Spotlight on the Troops event on Monday, May 25 or at any of the drop-off locations also listed on www.capecod4thetroops.com.

If you would like to make a monetary contribution, please send a check to: Cape Cod Cares For Our Troops Troops, 1831 Long Pond Rd.  Brewster, MA  02631.

Boston Pack and Ship offers tips on how to avoid moving scams.

May 18, 2009 //  by admin

BRAINTREE, MA…

According to many credible medical authorities, moving—after life, death, divorce and illness—is one of the more stressful things anybody can go through. That’s why being the victim of a moving scam adds fuels to an already blazing fire. As a small load shipping specialist for two decades, Boston Pack and Ship offers some basic rules of thumb to follow to prevent yourself from falling victim to moving scams.

“There are a number of moving scams out there, everything from an out-and-out theft of your belongings to holding your belongings hostage because you didn’t pay a made up fee or you had more pieces than your estimate,” said Joe Fell, co-owner of Boston Pack and Ship. “People are even more vulnerable to these scams in tough economic times because everybody’s trying to keep their costs down.”

So, what can you do to minimize the risk of falling for one of these scams? For starters:

  • Beware of virtual movers – make sure the moving company has an actual physical address, preferably in your area or where you’re moving to and especially if you found the company on the Internet.
  • Find out who’s actually doing the moving – beware of companies who broker the move to unknown third-party service providers. Ask more about the entire process; who is making the pickup, who is providing the long distance transport and the final delivery?
  • Ask for references – better yet, ask friends you know who have moved lately to refer a mover.
  • Check the mover’s Web site for professional accreditation – there are mover’s associations in every state. A mover affiliated with an accredited association does have more creditability than one that is not. Even better if the mover is a member of the Better Business Bureau. That allows you to not only check their credibility but the company’s history for handling complaints.
  • Get a minimum of three quotes – scam victims are often victims of their own impatience and wanting to get their move underway and over with. Getting a minimum of three quotes may slow things down slightly, but it will make you look a little closer at the company you eventually hire.
  • Fear the lowball quote – like the saying goes, if it’s too good to be true, it probably is. While no two moving companies are exactly the same, true professionals should not be more than a few hundred apart. If an estimate is more than $1,000 less than the others, that’s a red flag and you might want to scrutinize the estimate and company further.
  • Stick to national carriers for cross-country and out-state moves – If your entire home is being moved, stick to a national carrier. That way, you will have an actual physical address for the mover on each end of the move, not to mention a corporate office who the agent has to answer to should anything go wrong.

“These suggestions should help you avoid most scams but if you’re still not sure, always opt for the mover who was referred to you by trusted family or friends,” said Fell.

Boston Pack and Ship specializes in moves of 1,000 pounds or less. In addition, it offers customized package and custom crate building services at its workshop in Braintree.
