April 29, 2009 //  by admin

Along with new Spring flavors and Mother’s Day cakes, J.P. Licks is kicking off May with a Cinco de Mayo celebration week at their eight stores in and around the Boston area.

Come celebrate Cinco De Mayo with J.P. Licks May 1st through May 7th customers will receive double points on their Cow Card for every purchase made! J.P. They will be serving them up in three flavors, Original, Spicy Mango and a Habanera Lime. J.P. Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 10th and J.P. Licks offers the perfect dessert. J.P. Custom cake orders for Mother’s Day must be placed at least 48 hours in advance. A fresh homemade Key Lime Pie is May’s featured pie made with fresh Lime Sherbet and topped with lime zest and a lime slice.

“Cinco de Mayo is quickly becoming as popular as St. Patrick’s Day. It’ll be a festive week at J.P. Licks – our staff will be in costume and there will be plenty of music, margaritas and merriment,” noted Vince Petryk, founder of J.P. Licks.

He continued, “Spring is here and so brings back more refreshing citrus flavored sorbet and sherbets.”

Licks flavors for May include Fresh Lime Sherbet; Fresh Lemon Hibiscus Sorbet; Fresh Margarita Sorbet; Butter Cashew; Fresh Banana; Strawberry Cheesecake; Peanut Butter Chip; El Diablo; Dulce de Leche; Chocolate Brownie, Black Cherry Lactose Free and an all NEW Coconut Almond Chip low fat hard yogurt.

J.P. Licks’ “Thin Mint” Flavor Supported Local Girl Scouts

April 6, 2009 //  by admin

For anyone who loves Girl Scout Thin Mint cookies, J.P. Licks’ most recent featured flavor, Thin Mint ice cream, is as authentic as it gets. J.P. Licks’ Thin Mint ice cream is made with original Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies mixed with green mint ice cream. The flavor, which was featured throughout March, rocketed to a best seller; created many new ice cream fans, AND supported the local Girl Scouts.

The award winning homemade ice cream café worked with Girl Scouts from Jamaica Plain, Roxbury, Mattapan and Dorchester and purchased 20 cases of Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies.

At least four boxes of Thin Mint cookies went into every batch of J.P. Licks’ Thin Mint ice cream, which was produced on-site in the Jamaica Plain store.

According to Girls Scouts of the USA Cookie Report, Thin Mint cookies and all the other varieties of Girl Scout cookies are Kosher and contain zero trans fats. Best of all, proceeds from Girl Scout cookie sales benefit girls in the community where they are sold.

“We offered the Thin Mint ice cream at all of our stores and it quickly became a best seller among our Top 10 flavors. All of our products are Kosher and luckily, so are the Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies so we’re able to use them in our recipe. We’re definitely going to bring this flavor back next year and look forward to working with local Girl Scouts again,” noted Kim Sawchuk, Director of Operations at J.P. Licks.

J.P. Licks Goes Upscale with New Specialty Products

J.P. Licks, the award winning homemade ice cream and coffee café with eight shops in the Boston area, has expanded their product line with more upscale offerings. Loose leaf teas and hot breakfast are now available at every store and French Press coffee can be enjoyed at their locations in Jamaica Plain, Coolidge Corner, One Brigham Circle, West Roxbury and Harvard Square.

As roasters of their own fair trade and organic coffee beans, J.P. Licks will continue to brew their coffee in the traditional manner for customers as well as offer French Press coffee for those who prefer an extremely rich and robust cup of coffee. French Press coffee is made with J.P. Licks’ fresh roasted beans, but prepared using a “press pot” where the ground coffee is steeped in hot water (similar to tea) for several minutes before being pressed to the bottom of the pot. Because of the way French Press coffee is made, J.P. Licks outfitted select stores with special hot water dispensers.

For folks who prefer fresh brewed, loose leaf tea, J.P. Licks has added Numi Loose Leaf Teas, which are Kosher and many are Fair Trade Certified. Numi is known for their organic, hand-blended whole leaf teas, fresh pure herbs and real fruits which ensure the best tasting tea around.

J.P. Licks Redefines Breakfast

Hot breakfast is now on the menu at J.P. Licks. Patrons can choose from a bowl of thick and creamy homemade Hot Oatmeal served with a choice of brown sugar, raisons, walnuts, and honey or a warm flaky Spinach and Cheese Croissant for a great start to the day. Homemade waffles are also offered daily from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Jamaica plain store.

“We’re incorporating these particular items, which are more labor intensive and more upscale, to better satisfy the demands of our ‘dine-in’ breakfast customers. This is just the beginning. Customer demand for loose leaf teas is significant, yet there aren’t many places in the area that have the capability for offering it like we do now,” noted Kim Sawchuk, Director of Operations at J.P. Licks.

Limited Edition Flavors for March

J.P. Licks brings out all the Irish flavors for March including: Mint Irish Lace, which is a (green) mint ice cream with chocolate flecks for St. Patty’s Day; Irish Coffee ice cream which is full strength coffee ice cream spike with Jameson’s Irish Whiskey; Irish Orange Sorbet which is Orange sorbet with Chardonnay and Irish Whiskey; Baileys Chocolate Chip Cheesecake which is N.Y. style cheesecake that has Baileys Irish Cream and dark chocolate chips and finally, Leprechaun Brew which is Sam Adams beer ice cream tinted green for the Leprechauns. (Leprechaun Brew is available only through St. Patrick’s Day).

Thin Mint ice cream, made with original thin mint Girl Scout cookies mixed with green mint ice cream is absolutely delicious AND supports the local Girl Scout Troops. Thin Mint ice cream goes great with a cup of J.P. Licks’ Mint Hot Chocolate.

Irish Lace Pie is back by popular demand as well as a Grasshopper Sundae. Other flavors of the month include Butter Pecan, Mocha Almond, Chocolate Chip Lowfat Yogurt, Pink Grapefruit Sorbet and Coffee Lactose Free.

J.P. Licks is announcing a new name for their specialty frozen yogurt previously known as “Frozen Yogurt X”. Congratulations and a big Thank You goes out to Gay Ferguson of Mission Hill who came up with the name… “YoTango”. It’s clever, catchy and descriptive of the flavor and its taste and impact on the palate, like a Yo(gurt) Tango(ing) in your mouth!

Last summer, J.P. Licks introduced their non-fat tart and tangy yogurt as Frozen Yogurt X. They ran a “Name that Yogurt” contest. Gay’s “YoTango” was selected from hundreds of entries as the most fitting name for J.P. Licks’ Kosher frozen yogurt which is non-fat, contains millions of probiotic bacteria, has less sugar, no cholesterol and is easily digested by the lactose intolerant. “YoTango” is also loaded with calcium and contains active cultures which include lactobacillus bulgaricus and lactobacillus acidophilus. It’s mind boggling that something that tastes so good could be so good for you too. Why, it’s downright healthy.

Gay’s winning entry has earned her a cup of “YoTango” every day for a year, which thrilled Gay. She’s been buying a cup every day since she first tasted it and quickly became addicted. Gay estimates this will save her $1437.19 this year. Needless to say, she is ecstatic with her prize and J.P. Licks is ecstatic to have a customer like Gay.
