ActionCOACH Founder and CEO Brad Sugars offers free lecture for business owners on surviving economic “fall” and “winter” to succeed in economic “spring” and “summer”

May 7, 2010 //  by admin

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA …

Double-digit unemployment rates. Corporate bailouts. Foreclosures and slumping residential and commercial real estate markets.

So how can anyone truly say, “business is booming”?

Brad Sugars, founder and Chairman of ActionCOACH, the world’s number business coaching firm, has been sharing both how and why with sold-out crowds across North America as part of his “Business is Booming” tour. That tour will soon be coming to New Orleans on Thursday, June 10 at 6 p.m. at the New Orleans Marriott at the Convention Center.

“History tells us that more money is made during economic downturns than during booms and that for every 10-month downturn is a 50-month boom,” said Brian Baudean, ActionCOACH business coach in Louisiana. “Brad’s message is that the companies can prepare for the next boom by cutting costs, developing good lead generation strategies and implementing effective marketing programs that deliver A- and B-level customers that will thrive in any economy.”

In addition to an explanation of why business is indeed booming, Sugars will also discuss 28 proven strategies to massively grow any type of business during his three-hour presentation.

Widely acclaimed as the world’s number one Business Coach, Sugars founded ActionCOACH in 1993 after successfully owning and or running more than 30 businesses in his native Australia. Today, ActionCOACH is ranked as the world’s leading international business coaching firm, with more than 1,000 offices in 26 countries.

A best-selling author of 14 highly acclaimed business books – including four international best-sellers – Sugars has taught nearly a half-million people worldwide how to create business, real estate and financial success.

“Brad Sugars is to business coaching what Tony Robbins has been to the personal development industry,” continued Baudean. “With his ‘Business is Booming’ tour, he’s literally giving away his years of successful business knowledge and expertise. It’s a message every small business owner in the greater Baltimore should want to hear.”

To register for the June 10 event at the New Orleans Marriott at the Convention Center (located at 859 Convention Center Boulevard in New Orleans), simply visit http://businessisboomingtour.com/ and use code BDG001.

There’s no charge to register, admission is free. The event will begin promptly at 6 p.m. with a 30-minute networking period prior to Sugars’ presentation.

Your new travel guide…Rob and Sue Wallace opens Best of Northern Michigan Resort Maps franchise for Petoskey, Harbor Springs and Charlevoix.

May 7, 2010 //  by admin

Resort Maps Owners Rob and Sue Wallace

PETOSKEY, HARBOR SPRINGS AND CHARLEVOIX, MICHIGAN AND WAITSFIELD, VERMONT…

Resort Maps, creator of 98 customized travel maps across the United States, England, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico, recently announced Traverse City residents Rob and Sue Wallace as the new owners of the new map to be published for The Petoskey Area of Michigan. The map will include the towns of Petoskey, Harbor Springs and Charlevoix.

Resort Maps are colorful, hand-drawn maps of towns and cities, distributed free to area visitors at rest and travel information areas as well by advertisers. The Best of the Petoskey Area Map will highlight local attractions, restaurants, accommodations, retail shops, marinas, real estate and other services in all three towns. Each advertiser on the map will be represented with a display ad surrounding the perimeter of the map, including a color-coded grid locator and their actual building drawn, highlighted and labeled, making it easy to locate.

“I first started coming to this area for ice boating, which is a hobby of mine” said Wallace. “The Petoskey, Harbor Springs-Charlevoix area is just incredibly beautiful. It really is a place you have to see to appreciate. With our new map, we’re hoping to help tourists and residents find those hidden treasures and charming businesses that make up the area.”

Prior to owning a Resort Maps franchise, Wallace worked as an IT professional for the past three decades for Broadview Savings and Loan and National City Bank. After finding himself displaced after the National City/PNC Bank merger, he and his wife relocated to Traverse City. After seeing the Best of Traverse City map and learning more about the Resort Maps opportunity, he knew the perfect place to start a map.

“There’s not a brochure out there that can accurately depict the Petoskey-Harbor Springs-Charlevoix area. With our new map, we’re going to try,” said Wallace.

The Best of The Petoskey Area map will offer a treasure trove of things to do for people vacationing in the area or just down for a day or two. Resort Maps free ‘souvenir style’ maps will be on display at local advertisers’ shops but also at many non-advertiser locations throughout the Petoskey-Harbor Springs-Charlevoix region.

The Petoskey Area map will also be available on-line at www.resortmaps.com, along with interactive maps to all 98 Resort Maps. These interactive maps allow the viewer to read a description of each business as they scroll over each building and to connect to the website of the business for further information.

For information on how to advertise on the first edition of The Best of Petoskey Area Resort Map Michigan, you can e-mail Rob Wallace at robw@resortmaps.com.

Franchising your way to retirement…How semi-retireds turn to franchising to set up their retirement.

May 3, 2010 //  by admin

WAITSFIELD, VERMONT…

Owning and operating a franchise may be a great way to fund your retirement. Yet for more and more people who take an early retirement, it’s become a way to ease into full-time retirement. Franchising has even become a vehicle for some semi-retirees to move to their desired retirement destination.

“The common perception of owning a franchise is that it becomes your life 24/7 unless you have deep pockets and can hire somebody to run your business,” said Peter Hans, owner of Resort Maps Franchise, Inc. “There are many franchise opportunities out there, like Resort Maps, that are cyclical or seasonal that you can adapt to your lifestyle and that’s drawing a lot of retirees who are not ready to completely slow down.

Resort Maps publishes customized travel maps in more than 95 communities across the United States, England, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico. Resort Maps are colorful, hand-drawn maps of towns and cities, distributed free to area visitors at rest and travel information areas, by advertisers and at other locations. The owners of the Charleston, South Carolina Resort Maps typify the new trend in franchisees.

Hailing from central Pennsylvania, David and Mary Kay purchased a second home in Charleston in 2006. Since that time, both David, a clinical psychologist, and Mary Kay, healthcare and retail sales, retired from their respective careers. Not quite ready for full-time retirement and looking for a way to assimilate into their new hometown, the couple purchased the Best of Charleston Resort Maps franchise from their then neighbor.

“Resort Maps is a great business opportunity for a number of reasons. First and foremost, it’s a great product that provides a great vehicle for advertisers to showcase their businesses while offering invaluable service to people visiting Charleston,” said David McLane. “The other main appeal of the Resort Maps business opportunity is that it fits our lifestyle and gives us a chance to meet and know more people in the Charleston community.”

Allan Groves, 68, first became familiar with Resort Maps in the 1990s while living in Massachusetts. An economist and entrepreneur, Groves was semi-retired when he and his wife Camille relocated to Monterey to be closer to their two grown daughters. Faced with the realization that their nest egg might not be enough for full-time retirement, he purchased the Best of Monterey map in 2005 and the Best of Carmel map in 2007.

Besides providing an income, the Resort Maps opened other doors for Groves. “One of my passions is politics. As someone who has been deeply affected by the healthcare situation in this country it was very important for me to be a part of the most recent presidential election,” said Groves. “Because Resort Maps is seasonal, I had the flexibility to be a three-county volunteer coordinator for President Obama’s California efforts and I ended up overseeing 500 other volunteers.  I don’t want to overstate my role in helping get the President elected, but I am grateful that the Resort Maps franchise opportunity offered the freedom to work for him.”

Resort Maps began creating and publishing maps in the northeastern U.S. back in 1986. In an effort to continue the company’s growth and simultaneously maintain the quality of the product, Resort Maps became a franchisor in 1993. Since adopting the franchise model, Resort Maps has grown steadily to more than 95 maps distributed across 20 states as well as towns and cities in England, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico.

Adds Hans, “We’re probably a little different than most franchise opportunities. It’s the charge of our franchise owners to find advertisers for the map in their territory. The time frame in which the franchise owner finds those advertisers is totally up to them. So they’re not stuck in the 9-to-5, Monday through Friday, 12 months a year grind. An opportunity like that fits into the lifestyle of many sixty-somethings as well as single mothers, couples, recent graduates or even current college students.”

DirectBuy Franchise owner and family join “Team In Training” to raise money for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

April 27, 2010 //  by admin

Ryan Biberston, Brianna Biberston and Jim Biberston of DirectBuy of Albuquerque

Jim Biberston, franchise owner of DirectBuy of Albuquerque, his son Ryan, and daughter-in-law Brianna (who also both work at the club) are training to participate in the Jay Benson Triathlon on May 9, 2010, at the Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico. But they’re not just participating in the Triathlon for their own health and wellness; the Biberstons are a part of Team In Training, an organization that fundraises to support research to find cures for leukemia, lymphoma, and melanoma. The team’s funds raised from the Jay Benson Triathlon will be donated to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

“DirectBuy strives to be a leader in the community by acting as a promoter of change and by helping those in need,” said Jim Biberston. “I see this event as an opportunity to support the local chapter of Team In Training and, through them, the larger movement in the fight against blood cancers across the United States.” Biberston is one of 160 DirectBuy club owners and managers who actively participate in their local communities, supporting such organizations as The Boys and Girls Clubs, the Salvation Army, the YMCA, Homes for our Troops, and children’s hospitals, as well as many others.

“I was initially contacted by “Be the Match Foundation” as a possible bone marrow donor to someone who is fighting Leukemia, and I’m currently in the process of doing so,” said Ryan Biberston. “We then decided to take it a step further and are competing in this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. They are the real heros, and we need all the support we can get to cross the ultimate finish line – finding a cure!”

“Our goal as a family is to raise $4,500 before May 9, 2010,” said Brianna Biberston. “The more people we reach, the more lives we touch, the closer we come to a cure.” To support the Biberstons in their fight against blood cancers, you can visit their team website at http://pages.teamintraining.org/nm/jaytri10/jbiberston.

Nothing casual about giving… DirectBuy employees donate proceeds from Spirit Day to Boys & Girls Club.

April 26, 2010 //  by admin

MERRILLVILLE, IN…

While casual days might be the norm for many companies in corporate America, the staff at DirectBuy’s Corporate Headquarters in Merrillville, Indiana, has turned the opportunity to wear jeans to work into a way to generate donations for local causes. For a $2 donation, DirectBuy employees purchase the right to dress down on a predetermined workday. The most recent casual day, or Spirit Day (as it’s referred to at DirectBuy), was held on Wednesday, March 17, 2010, and raised $3,254 for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Indiana (BGCNWI).

“Spirit Days have been very well received by our employees, but the fact that this one occurred on St. Patrick’s Day gave us the opportunity to make an event out of it,” said Candice Baeza, a team leader at DirectBuy’s Corporate Headquarters. “So, to really drum up donations and get in the spirit of the day, we served a traditional corned beef and cabbage lunch with a Green River punch and raffled off a Nintendo Wii for staff who participated.”

A special guest, Greg Reinholt, development manager for BGCNWI, drew the winning ticket held by Josie Gonzalez, an administrative assistant in DirectBuy’s IT department. “I kept telling everyone my name was going to be pulled, but I never really expected it to happen,” said Gonzalez.

In addition to drawing the winner of the Wii, Reinholt spoke to DirectBuy staff about BGCNWI and its special relationship with DirectBuy (in 2009, DirectBuy employees contributed more than $3600 to BGCNWI) and what their donations meant to the organization. He cited the story of Andrew King, a young man from Gary whose life was greatly impacted by his time spent at several Boys and Girls Clubs throughout his youth.

“I am very happy to be working with DirectBuy. We share a common set of values for our respective members in that we both pride ourselves on individual care, assuring our members receive excellent service,” said Reinholt. “A natural relationship has developed between our organizations and I believe it will be a long-lasting one. Already DirectBuy and its staff have been very generous – 2009’s gifts enabled 20 children to become members of the Clubs!”

“Our Spirit Days are a lot of fun, especially ones that fall on a fun day like St. Patrick’s Day, but hearing Andrew King’s story really made an impression on everybody,” said Senior Director of Merchandise Services, Patti Titus. “In addition to having some fun and getting to wear jeans to work, our Spirit Days are making a difference to people in the communities in which we live and there’s certainly nothing casual about that.”

Barrie residents win $25,000 home makeover from DirectBuy

April 26, 2010 //  by admin

BARRIE, ONTARIO…

When Gina and Rob Baxter received a notice in the mail telling them they had won $25,000 in DirectBuy’s Home Makeover Program, they thought it was just another advertisement and dismissed it as unimportant. Even once DirectBuy of Barrie Co-Owner Christine DeMarsh called the Baxters to let them know they really had won, they still didn’t believe it at first. “It took a few minutes to really sink in,” said DeMarsh. “Then they got really excited and thanked us over and over again.”

“We were speechless when we confirmed we had really won,” said Ron Baxter. “All we could think was, ‘WOW, what awesome news!’” Although the initial shock wore off, the Baxters were still excited days later at the cheque presentation ceremony. “They were ecstatic, and could barely contain their excitement,” said DeMarsh. “Rob was practically beaming while he discussed the renovations this would allow him and his wife to do on their home.” After paying off a credit card, the Baxters plan to use the rest of the money to install hardwood flooring, add a deck extension, and do some yard work, with hopes to do even more.

The Home Makeover Program is an exciting event for both the winners themselves as well as DirectBuy employees. “I was almost excited as the Baxters were,” said DeMarsh. “I felt like I had won to be part of this giveaway and see it change someone’s life.” And that’s just what the Home Makeover winnings have the potential to do: “This happened at a very good time. It really helps out and takes some major stresses away,” said Gina Baxter. “We’re really thankful to DirectBuy for this opportunity; it’s absolutely perfect that it happened to us.”

Over the past few years, DirectBuy has distributed more than a million dollars in prize money to both members and non-members as part of their Home Makeover Program, designed to help consumers create the home of their dreams.

DirectBuy of Barrie, located at 320 Bayfield Street, Unit 63, in Barrie, ON, offers consumers thousands of items including kitchen cabinets, flat-screen televisions, and major appliances from more than 500 manufacturers or their authorized suppliers.

To assist members with their home renovation projects, DirectBuy of Barrie employs product specialists who are specially trained in one of five areas of merchandise: Home Furnishings, Home Improvement, Flooring, Entertainment/Outdoor, and Accessories. Additionally, members benefit from the use of a children’s play area, café, and a members’ lounge to relax in while shopping.
