A second performance, “Was I Too Young For Love?”, based on the very first Archer St. John romance comic from 1948 written by Dana Dutch, will follow. This episode is very similar to a soap opera, where the heroine, Eileen, takes off on an overnight trip to visit her boyfriend, but there is no consequence that results in tears, just a valuable lesson learned about love. The cast features Jennifer Love of Hingham; Bridget Hindle and Karen Hayes of Kingston; George Krein and Karen Ferrari of Marshfield; and Joe O’Connor of Plymouth.

TIC’s Radio and Podcast Players perform each radio play in front of a live studio audience backstage at TIC.  The shows are produced by John Shea of TIC and Eric Joseph, Executive Director of The Bay Colony Shakespeare Company (BCSC).  TIC strives to bring live theater to those who might not have access to it otherwise due to accessibility, transportation or financial issues and to bring their audience of over 30,000 listeners fresh, new and exciting content.

Old Colony Elder Services Invites Elected Officials to “March for Meals” Events in Brockton and Wareham

February 15, 2018 //  by admin

Old Colony Elder Services (OCES), the non-profit agency proudly serving older adults and individuals with disabilities throughout greater Plymouth County and surrounding communities, invites legislators and Council On Aging (COA) Directors to participate in two special “March for Meals” events in support of the vital Meals on Wheels program.

March for Meals is part of Meals On Wheels America’s national campaign held in March. Elected officials and COA Directors would participate in March for Meals by serving as wait staff at specific Community Dining Sites in Brockton and Wareham.

The first March for Meals event will be held on March 8, 2018 at the Community Dining site at Campello High Rise in Brockton. The event will be a celebration of Haiti and Cape Verde, featuring delicious cuisine.

The second March for Meals will be held on March 15, 2018 at Wareham COA congregate meal site. In celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, a special meal of corned beef and cabbage will be served.

“This is the first year we are holding March for Meals events at Community dining sites. It’s a wonderful opportunity for many in our community to meet our elected officials and COA Directors,” said Nicole M. Long, CEO. “The Meals on Wheels program is essential to many older adults who are homebound, unable to prepare meals, manage their grocery shopping or able to attend one of our community dining sites. Through Meals on Wheels, they received a nutritious meal daily, as well as a friendly visit and safety check.”

Nutritious Meal & A Safety Check

One of OCES’ long-time Meals on Wheels volunteer drivers recently came to the aid of an older adult who was near hypothermia after falling in an unheated breezeway of his home. The volunteer called 911 and ultimately, treatment was provided in time.

Long continued, “OCES is proud of all of our volunteers, and of our Meals on Wheels program that delivers well over a thousand meals a day.  Not only do our drivers deliver nutritious food, they deliver a warm smile and in some cases, a wellness check that results in a wonderful outcome.”

OCES’ Nutrition Program

As part of their Nutrition Program, OCES delivers 1,600 nutritious meals a day to older adults and individuals with disabilities living within 23 communities in greater Plymouth County. These “Meals on Wheels” are planned by a nutritionist, and with the help of hundreds of volunteers, are delivered either to individual homes or to Community Dining Sites, which provide older adults opportunities for social interaction.

MOW 5K

OCES will hold their third annual Moving Heels for Meals on Wheels 5K Walk/Run on April 29, 2018. To sponsor or donate to this event, visit www.ocesma.org.

For more information about Meals on Wheels America, visit their website at mealsonwheelsamerica.org.

Nancy O’Keefe’s “Fighting the Talent Battle: How to Update Your Arsenal and Win the War” now available.

PLYMOUTH, MA…

Much has changed since your grandfather received a gold watch for retirement. From telecommuting to job sharing to virtual teams, the workplace has transformed. Baby Boomers are exiting the workforce and are taking 50 years of stability with them. Millennials have a completely different vision for where they work, how long they work, who they work with and what their career path will be.

How does the employer attract and retain the life’s blood of their company – people?

Nancy O’Keefe, MBA, MS–a thought leader, business consultant, executive coach, author and speaker—researched, analyzed and wrote the newly released book entitled “Fighting the Talent Battle: How to Update Your Arsenal and Win the War” to give employers a fighting chance.

Employee engagement is at an all-time low. A recent Gallup poll underscores that only 30 percent of workers are engaged. The study outlines that workers, regardless of age, education or gender, are not motivated or interested in their work. In response to this, people are abandoning corporate American and forging new ways of living with less – including movements for tiny houses, living off the grid and finding more satisfied lives than the 9 to 5 grind, or worse, the 9 – 9 grind.

We already see critical skills and hiring shortages in industries like technology and healthcare and it is only the beginning of the battle. The days of the employer having the upper hand and hiring advantage because the only alternative was entrepreneurship are coming to an end.

And there are no simple solutions. Fighting the battle for talent reaches well beyond a ping pong table in the break room and trendy snacks in the fridge. The new starting point is realizing that people are a company’s most important asset and that the company has to enhance and preserve that asset.

O’Keefe notes, “We are entering a new age, ‘The People Age’, and the companies that change their paradigms around employees and management will gain a strategic competitive advantage I call the Human Competitive Edge™.”

The book illustrates how current business models, hiring practices and many management methods were created more than 100 years ago around the Industrial Revolution for mass production, manufacturing-based businesses.  Holding on to a 100-year-old paradigm is keeping us stuck in thinking that perpetuates a disengaged, unproductive and dissatisfied workforce that no longer serves organizations or their employees.  The way to move business forward is to move people forward.

The new book reveals ways to create an uplifting workplace and how to motivate managers to motivate employees. “Fighting the Talent Battle: How to Update Your Arsenal and Win the War” takes a disruptive look at the talent dilemma and offers specific ideas and solutions that address the shift in the way we work, want to work and an environment in which everyone is rewarded.

Explored are corporate values, hiring practice, compensation, true diversity and inclusion and the high performance workplace.

Nancy O’Keefe, MBA, MS is a thought leader, business consultant, executive coach, author and speaker who has held senior positions in customer service, direct sales, software engineering, software implementation, project management, company operations, process improvement and outsourcing.  As an entrepreneur, she has founded several successful businesses, including a $5 million process improvement and outsourcing business that was one of the first 50 employee virtual offices in existence.  She is a certified Executive Coach from the College of Executive Coaching, holds an MBA from Babson College in Entrepreneurship and an MS in Quality Systems Management from Anna Maria College.

BCI Rebrands and Announces New Logo and Website

February 9, 2018 //  by admin

Behavioral Concepts (BCI), a company of behavioral clinicians specializing in the care of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) throughout Massachusetts, has rebranded and unveiled a new graphic identity and website.

BCI’s extensive rebrand, which has been in the works since early 2017 and recently completed, involved understanding the company’s culture and unique value proposition. The rebrand better represents the organization’s expertise, comprehensive services and community leadership – all which is reflected through a new graphic identity, collateral, tagline and the launch of a new website.

Jeffrey R. Robinson, Ph.D., founder and CEO, engaged the marketing and branding expertise of Bob Lodi, Rock Pixel Scissors of Uxbridge, MA to assist with the rebrand.

BCI has updated their original logo, which used symbolism such as primary colors for children and puzzle pieces for autism. Although the new logo bears some resemblance to the previous logo, it is an evolution of their prior “Sun” logo, where the sun’s rays have been moved inside the C and shown in a contrasting lime green color. Dr. Robinson used the sun symbol to represent giving families a sense of promise and hope, as well as transition from darkness into light. In the new logo, the sun symbolizes light and hope, as well as becoming MORE.

The company also has a new tagline of “Discover more. Learn more. BE MORE.”

“Given the right tools, resources and environments, children with autism can learn and grow. Through early intervention, home based therapies, afterschool activities and social-skill groups, BCI helps children BE MORE,” explained Dr. Robinson.

BCI has launched a new generation of their website, which includes a new URL, http://bciaba.com.

The site was developed using the latest responsive techniques and contains new content and photography. The website boasts an innovative, elegant design, and simple navigation which enables visitors to access content quickly. BCI’s site was reorganized to better focus on the solutions they offer, their expertise and recruitment of critical staff necessary to provide services to families affected by autism.

New and improved components of bciaba.com include a “How We Can Help” section that outlines their specialty early intervention services and ABA centers. Their enhanced “Careers” page highlights job listings, internships, professional development, research and success stories. Special components that have been added to the website include an online application for intake services, an employee portal and an E-Store. A BCI blog offers information, tips and news for families, providers, and others.

He continued, “The entire rebrand process was quite involved and included an in-depth analysis of our goals and company culture, as well as positioning for anticipated growth. Our rebrand reinforces our commitment to be the best in the profession by providing the highest level of service and support to children and their families.”

About BCI

Behavioral Concepts (BCI) provides Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services to children with autism and their families in central Massachusetts. We identify and facilitate effective personalized instruction that allows children to discover more, learn more, and be more – increasing their independence and enhancing their quality of life at home, in school, and in the community. BCI is a Massachusetts Department of Public Health approved provider of specialty ABA services for early intervention. BCI also provides center, home-based, and afterschool services through private and public health insurance. The organization was founded in 2002 by Dr. Jeffrey R. Robinson. Between Rounds Bakery Sandwich Café, a growing fast casual dining establishment and wholesale bagel supplier, has announced that plans are in place for their Manchester store’s complete renovation.

Between Rounds Manchester store, which opened in 1994, has become somewhat of a landmark as it is the only original tenant of the Plaza at Buckland Hills. Located at 1540A Pleasant Valley Road, Between Rounds Manchester will close for remodeling on February 11, 2018 for two weeks.

During the temporary construction shut-down, the bakery café and bagel shop encourages customers to visit Between Rounds locations nearby in the Vernon Circle Shopping Center, 243 Hartford Turnpike and the South Windsor store at 19 John Fitch Boulevard, Route 5.

Between Rounds Manchester renovation promises a bright, cheery and well-lit store with the latest in energy efficient LED lighting. New furnishings, including tables, chairs and a bench seat that accommodates seating for large groups, will further enhance patrons’ comfort. Sleek retail giftware displays will also be incorporated into the design and showcase Between Rounds’ unique and expanded line of giftware.

The Manchester store’s floor plan is also getting a makeover. Puiia continued, “We received very positive feedback after our Vernon renovation and are striving for a similar harmony and visual consistency in Manchester’s redesign.”

The Manchester staff will temporarily work in the Vernon store during the renovation, and all catering orders will be satisfied via the Vernon and South Windsor stores.
