LEARN Behavioral Appoints Marissa Mata as Director of New Hire Training Operations

 LEARN Behavioral, a national organization of providers serving children with autism and other special needs, has recently appointed Marissa Mata as Director of New Hire Training Operations.

Mata brings over a decade of organizational behavioral management experience to LEARN Behavioral. In her new role, Mata will be based in the company’s Chicago, IL, office and oversee new hire training operations, while building and implementing scalable training strategies across the organization.

Prior to joining the company, Mata was the Director of Strategic Initiatives for G6 Hospitality (Motel 6) based in Carrollton, Texas, where she oversaw the Program Management Office and led a team of experts dedicated to creating a better and safer guest and employee experience enterprise wide. Her career includes a 12-year (combined) tenure as Director of Solution Center Services for Rent-A-Center of Plano, Texas, and as Director of Revenue Operations for LQ Management of Irving, Texas.

Mata is a member of the Association for Talent Development (ATD). Mata and her teams have been recognized with training awards, including Training & Development Magazine’s “Outstanding Training Initiatives” award and their “Training Top 125” award over six years. She has also been honored by ATD with the ATD BEST Award.

Mata holds a bachelor of arts in economics from University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. She is a resident of Dallas, TX.

Renovation examples include living, sleeping and bathroom areas all on a first-floor level; wide doorways and hallways to allow for wheelchairs to pass through; level transitions between rooms; non-slip flooring; ample lighting; and at least one no-stair point of entry to the home. Other remodeling design elements that may be incorporated include curbless showers which allow for easy entry and exit; strategically placed handrails; and drawer style dishwasher, microwave, and dinnerware storage systems.

Enhancing visibility to further promote safety is accomplished by installing effective and reliable lighting inside and outside the home. These fixtures can feature motion sensors and timers which are activated when needed and conserve energy when they are not. Natural lighting may be increased by incorporating extra windows and skylights.

The company also considers challenges pertaining to dexterity in every remodel for aging in place. For example, replacing knobs with lever style handles can make opening and closing doors much more comfortable and they look terrific. Installing light switches, microwaves, and dish drawers at lower heights can significantly increase accessibility. Side-by-side refrigerator and freezer units, front facing laundry equipment, and stoves with front controls also allow for less reaching and easier access.

Old Colony Elder Services Announces New Supportive Housing Program in Easton

Old Colony Elder Services (OCES), the non-profit agency proudly serving older adults and individuals with disabilities throughout greater Plymouth County, has announced a new Supportive Housing  Program in Easton, MA.

OCES has appointed Jessica Parson as OCES’ new Supportive Housing Specialist. She will be based at the Robert J. Keefe community building on Parker Terrace in Easton. Ms. Parson previously worked at OCES as a Care Manager in the Home Care Program.

Ms. Parson has already planned an ice cream social, sponsored by Senior Whole Health, for supportive housing residents. Additionally, the Easton Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will be starting wellness checks with residents every other week.

The goal of supportive housing is to integrate community resources, information, and services for the individuals who reside at a particular local housing authority site, and essentially to enrich the lives of those residents.

“Supportive Housing Programs are designed to create a community environment which allows residents to age in their community,” explained Elizabeth Weiner, OCES’ Housing Programs Manager who oversees this program along with all of OCES’ other supportive and congregate housing programs. “OCES works with the housing authority in Easton to support both the residents and housing management.”

Through the Supportive Housing Program, a specialist from OCES’ housing team conducts an assessment to determine the specific needs of  residents residing within the Easton Housing Authority. All residents at these sites are eligible for information and referral services, case management assistance, and access to social or educational programs. Depending on eligibility, many other services are available as well.

“Buried in Treasures” Virtual Workshop Begins August 10th

Old Colony Elder Services (OCES), the non-profit agency proudly serving older adults and individuals with disabilities throughout greater Plymouth County, is offering a Buried in Treasures Virtual Workshop – a facilitated self-help series for individuals with hoarding tendencies. For anyone struggling with clutter, compulsive acquiring, saving, and hoarding, OCES’ Buried in Treasures confidential workshop begins Tuesday, August 10, 2021. Classes meet once a week for 16 weeks. This specific workshop is for individuals working on their own recovery; it is not for friends, family or service providers. However, others are welcome to contact OCES for information and resources.

“Buried in Treasures” is an educational, judgment-free, self-help program facilitated by OCES that will meet virtually from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The registration cost is $250 per workshop and is non-refundable. 

Scholarships Available

Limited scholarships are available for the Buried in Treasures Virtual Workshop based on financial need. Scholarships are supported by funds raised from OCES’ Hoarding 101 Workshop for service providers held earlier this year and attended by 156 professionals.“A hoarding disorder not only disrupts an individual’s daily life, it can also significantly affect their relationships with loved ones.
