Your new travel guide…Mike Chenail opens Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Resort Maps franchise.

Mike Chenail

Mike Chenail
Mike Chenail of Resort Maps

LANCASTER COUNTY, PA AND WAITSFIELD, VERMONT…

Resort Maps, creator of more than 100 customized travel maps across the United States, England, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico, recently announced Mike Chenail as the owner of the new Resort Map to be published for Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Resort Maps are colorful, hand-drawn maps of towns and cities, distributed free to area visitors at travel information and rest areas as well as at advertiser locations. The Lancaster County map will highlight local attractions and things to do, restaurants and bars, accommodations, retail shops, real estate and other services for both downtown Lancaster and Amish country. Each advertiser on the map will be represented with a display ad surrounding the perimeter of the map, including a color-coded grid locator and their actual building hand-drawn, highlighted and labeled, making it easy to locate.

“Lancaster County has a lot to offer in terms of sights and attractions, from the local independent baseball league team—the Lancaster Barnstormers—to President James Buchanan’s Wheatland home to the quaint Amish countryside,” said Chenail. “Resort Maps gives tourists and locals a hard copy map alternative and online map option that makes it easy to get around and really gives visitors a feel for what the area is all about.”

Originally from western Massachusetts, Chenail received a bachelor’s degree in arboriculture from the University of Massachusetts. Prior to owning the Resort Maps franchise, he worked in sales in the tree care industry. Chenail first heard of Resort Maps while residing in Massachusetts in the 1990’s, but the idea to pursue a franchise came after watching visitors to Bucks County navigate effortlessly with the map and frequenting the advertisers they saw.

The Lancaster County Resort Map will offer a treasure trove of things to do for people vacationing in the area or just visiting for a day or two. Resort Maps free ‘souvenir style’ maps will have a 200,000 map distribution at Welcome Centers and over 100 local advertisers’ shops and non-advertiser locations throughout Lancaster County. Each map display case will include a tag reader symbol so that readers with a smartphone can take a picture of the tag and be automatically taken to the online version of the Lancaster County Resort Map.

“The advanced technology of Resort Maps was one of the main reasons I bought a franchise. The fact that the map is online and the colorful art work of the hard copy give us a distinct advantage versus. other forms of marketing,” said Chenail, who recently joined the Pennsylvania Dutch Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The Lancaster County map will be distributed in June 2011. The Lancaster County Resort Map will also be available on-line at www.resortmaps.com, along with interactive maps to more than 100 areas that Resort Maps covers. These interactive maps allow the viewer to read a description of each business as they scroll over each building and to connect to the website of the business for further information.

For information on how to advertise on the initial Lancaster County Resort Map, you can e-mail Mike Chenail at mikec@resortmaps.com or call 717-826-8118.

The century mark as a landmark…Resort Maps achieves 100- map milestone

Peter Hans

Peter Hans
Resort Maps' Peter Hans

WAITSFIELD, VERMONT…

Resort Maps, creator of customized travel maps, has made a name for itself by showcasing local advertisers for tourists and residents and encouraging them to enjoy the journey as well as their final destination. Holding true to that philosophy, Resort Maps, with maps across the United States, United Kingdom, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico, recently celebrated the publishing of its 100 map location.

Resort Maps are colorful, hand-drawn maps of towns and cities, distributed free to area visitors at travel information and rest areas as well as at advertiser locations. Each map highlights local attractions and things to do, restaurants, accommodations, retail shops, real estate and other services. Each advertiser on the map is represented with a display ad on the perimeter of the map, including a color-coded grid locator and their actual building hand-drawn, highlighted and labeled, making it easy to locate.

“The journey to 100 maps has been quite a ride, but it’s an accomplishment we’re quite proud of,” said Peter Hans, president of Resort Maps. “With people traveling less or staying local for their vacations, it’s really increased the value of our maps. So, while we’ll take a step back and briefly celebrate 100, our sights are set on the next milestone, 150.”

Resort Maps began creating and publishing maps in the northeastern U.S. back in 1986. In an effort to continue the company’s growth and simultaneously keep the quality of the product, Resort Maps became a franchisor in 1993. Since adopting the franchise model, Resort Maps has grown steadily to 100 maps distributed across 20 states as well as towns and cities in England and Puerto Rico.

In 2010, Resort Maps will print and publish nearly 20 million maps. And besides travelers, more and more opportunity seekers are becoming fans of Resort Maps.

“Resort Maps is truly a unique and appealing franchise opportunity. It’s not a 9-to-5 gig, you don’t need to take out office space and you don’t necessarily have to work 12 months a year to run a successful franchise. You just have to be willing to work hard when you work,” said Hans. “With more and more people looking to escape the corporate world for an opportunity that gives them some freedom and flexibility and great earning potential, 150 maps is certainly a tangible goal as we attract more franchisees– hopefully one we can meet within the next couple of years.”

For more information on Resort Maps or to inquire about ownership of a Resort Maps franchise, please visit www.resortmaps.com or call 802-496-6277.

On a map quest…Resort Maps to produce “Best of Key West” map, advertising opportunities available.

December 22, 2009 //  by admin

KEY WEST, FLORIDA AND WAITSFIELD, VERMONT…

Resort Maps, creator of more than 90 customized travel maps across the United States, England, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico, recently began work on the first edition of a map of Key West, Florida.  Resort Maps are colorful, hand-drawn maps of resort towns and cities, free to area visitors.

The creation of the Best of Key West Resort Map will show what the area has to offer by highlighting local attractions, restaurants, accommodations, retail shops, real estate and other services in the greater Key West area. Each advertiser on the map is represented with a display ad surrounding the perimeter of the map, including a color-coded grid locator and their actual building drawn, highlighted and labeled, making it easy to locate.

These same colorful maps can be found on-line at www.resortmaps.com. Here you will find interactive maps of all 90+ resort areas to choose from. These interactive maps allow the viewer to read a description of each business as they scroll over each building and to connect to the website of the business for further information.

“You think Key West and you think Jimmy Buffet and Ernest Hemingway and that’s all part of Key West, yet there are many other wonderful places to see and things to do here,” said John McClain, Resort Maps franchise owner. “The new Key West map offers a real treasure trove of things to do for people vacationing in the area or just down for a day or two. Our free ‘souvenir style’ maps can be found not only at the local advertisers’ shops but also at many non-advertiser locations throughout the area.”

For information on how to advertise on the upcoming Key West map, you can contact franchise owner John McClain by e-mail at john@resortmaps.com or by phone at 305-433-8442.

Resort Maps began creating and publishing maps in the northeastern U.S. back in 1986. In an effort to continue the company’s growth and simultaneously maintain the quality of the product, Resort Maps became a franchisor in 1993. Since adopting the franchise model, Resort Maps has grown steadily to more than 90 maps distributed across 20 states as well as towns and cities in England, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico.

“We publish over 20 million maps per year in more than 90 cities and towns for a good reason. Our maps are fun, easy-to-read and they really do make you want to stop and see some of the local attractions before heading to the next part of your trip. Our advertisers like them for that very same reason,” said Peter Hans, president of Resort Maps.

WAITSFIELD, VERMONT…

Resort Maps, creator of more than 90 customized travel maps across the United States, England and Puerto Rico, recently announced agreement for franchises in Windsor, England, Escazu and Santa Ana, Costa Rica and Old San Juan Puerto Rico.

The new map in Windsor, England is owned by Paul Drew. Juan DeCorral owns the Old San Juan map. A company called Strings & Rain is the owner of the Costa Rica map.

“We’re very excited about adding new maps in England and Puerto Rico. The current locations we have in those countries—Chichester and Lewes in England, Culebra and Vieques in Puerto Rico—have been very well received,” said Peter Hans.  We are happy to add Windsor to our other maps in England [Chichester and Lewes] and Old San Juan to our maps in Puerto Rico [Culebra and Vieques],” said Hans, president of Resort Maps Franchise, Inc.  “We’re looking forward to the new maps going over just as well, and that includes our initial offering in Costa Rica.”

Resort Maps are colorful, hand-drawn maps of towns and cities, distributed free to area visitors at rest and travel information areas as well by advertisers.  Resort Maps highlight local attractions, restaurants, accommodations, retail shops, real estate and other services. Each advertiser on the map is represented with a display ad surrounding the perimeter of the map, including a color-coded grid locator and their actual building drawn, highlighted and labeled, making it easy to locate.

“Looking for those hidden treasures is not something that’s restricted to the U.S. People traveling all over the world want that too,” said Hans. “We’re hopeful that our global expansion will continue as our maps grow in popularity.”

The “new” faces of franchising…Difficult economic times bring out franchisees from various walks of life

November 10, 2009 //  by admin

WAITSFIELD, VERMONT…

You’d think the worst economic times since the Great Depression would discourage budding entrepreneurs from going into business on their own. Yet with corporate layoffs, record unemployment rates, shrinking nest eggs and a number of other variables, many entrepreneurs are seeking franchises as a safer track to owning their own business—and that’s attracting franchise owners from a variety of backgrounds.

“It used to be your franchise owners drew more investor-types—celebrities, pro athletes and others with deep pockets looking for a turnkey operation,” said Peter Hans, CEO of Resort Maps Franchise, Inc., a franchisor and creator of more than 90 customized travel maps across the United States, England and Puerto Rico. “The economy has turned a number of franchise owners our way, either as an appealing option to corporate life and a shrinking job market or as a lifestyle option.”

Some of the areas attracting new franchise owners include:

·         Corporate casualties and refugees

·         Retirees

·         Working mothers

·         Veterans

·         Students

Gerry Pelissier, a Resort Maps franchise owner creating a new map in Dennis-Harwich, Massachusetts and with an existing map in Chatham-Orleans, Massachusetts on Cape Cod, represents one of the new faces. A former executive in the corporate world, Pelissier found owning a franchise; Resort Maps in particular, to be an appealing option. “Back when I was 28 years old, I had the drive and the entrepreneurship in my blood,’’ said Pelissier, who was the founder of a double drive-thru gourmet coffee business that he successfully franchised and then sold to Chock full o’Nuts. “I just turned 50 this year and I said to myself, ‘Let’s not create a new wheel.’ There’s a lot less risk in purchasing an existing franchise.”

David and Mary Kay McLane, owners of Resort Maps’ Charleston, South Carolina franchise, represent another of the new faces: retirees.

From central Pennsylvania, David and Mary Kay purchased a second home in Charleston in 2006. Since that time, both David, a clinical psychologist, and Mary Kay, healthcare and retail sales, retired from their respective careers. Yet early on the two realized they were not quite ready for full-time retirement.

“Resort Maps is a great business opportunity for a number of reasons. First and foremost, it’s a great product that provides a great vehicle for advertisers to showcase their businesses while offering invaluable service to people visiting Charleston,” said David McLane. “The other main appeal of the Resort Maps business opportunity is that it fits our lifestyle and gives us a chance to meet and know more people in the Charleston community.”

Resort Maps began creating and publishing maps in the northeastern U.S. back in 1986. In an effort to continue the company’s growth and simultaneously maintain the quality of the product, Resort Maps became a franchisor in 1993. Since adopting the franchise model, Resort Maps has grown steadily to more than 90 maps distributed across 20 states as well as towns and cities in England and Puerto Rico.

Adds Hans, “We’re probably a little different than most franchise opportunities. It’s the charge of our franchise owners to find advertisers for the map in their territory. The time frame for which the franchise owner finds those advertisers is totally up to them. So they’re not stuck in the 9-to-5, Monday through Friday, 12 months a year grind. An opportunity like that fits into the lifestyle of many of the new faces: retirees, couples, recent graduates or even current college students.”
