Georgia CALLS Temporarily Relocates to Larger Space. Fundraising for Campus Dream Project Continues

March 24, 2016 //  by admin

Ga Calls Logo - Vertical-TagGeorgia CALLS, the Georgia Center For Abundant Living Life Skills, a unique 501(c)3 non-profit helping high-risk, returning citizens make a successful transition from incarceration back into society as business entrepreneurs, has temporarily relocated to a larger space to accommodate their significant growth.

Georgia CALLS has outgrown their 1800 sq. ft. space at 1705 Enterprise Drive, Suite B, in Buford and relocated to the 3600 sq. ft. space next door at Suite A. The move is temporary while they continue fundraising for the Campus Dream Project.

Just one year after launching, Georgia CALLS completely ran out of space in their building. The new location provides daily staff with plenty of desk and storage space, which they lacked prior to the move. Georgia CALLS will now be able to hold daily training classes and counseling sessions at the same time. The call center area has also been expanded and can now accept additional program participants.

“This move means that we are able to assist more individuals with transitioning and reentering the community. It is exciting to see the program growing along with the growth and development of the participants,” explained Katie Ellison, Counselor/Case Worker at Georgia CALLS.

Georgia CALLS’ participants have also expressed that they are pleased with the move as it gives them more space to do their daily activities and allows them a chance to expand and progress.

Prior to moving in to the new space, Georgia CALLS had to make renovations, which included new carpet, paint, wiring and the expansion of the area utilized for classrooms and training. A team of 20 VoiceNation staff members participating in the Employee Volunteer Program assisted with the renovations and setup of the facility for the call center environment.

“Now we have space to grow and add more participants, thus opening the door for greater vision expansion in who we are able to help and how many,” explained Mark Mobley, Executive Director of Georgia CALLS. “Occupying this space is a temporary solution until we are able to reach our goal to have a full training and workplace facility to fulfill the full vision of Georgia CALLS.”

Georgia CALLS is fundraising for Phase I of their Campus Dream Project, which includes a new space to accommodate their expanding program, additional staff, and the costs to build-out that custom-designed, work/training facility.

The Campus Dream Project is a comprehensive solution-focused model that will meet the needs of both individuals and families searching for a second chance as they reintegrate with society. Campus Dream is Georgia CALLS on a grand scale, with numerous work opportunities, job/life skills training, transitional housing, a food bank, tutoring, after school programs, and childcare.

Mobley continued, “Our Campus Dream Project will enable us to have the greatest impact in the community as possible. It will help us achieve generational change to break the cycle of recidivism.”

About SAFFT

Supporting Adoption & Foster Families Together (SAFFT), is a non-profit organization with a mission to protect children, rebuild families, and empower caregivers. Through years of working with hundreds of children and families, SAFFT discovered that families in crisis are part of a generational cycle passed down to children causing decades of family abuse, addiction, child neglect, homelessness, unemployment, and severe poverty. Since early 2009, SAFFT has successfully developed and implemented multiple programs of support at the ground level in Forsyth County Georgia and supports neighboring counties including Cherokee, Dawson, Hall, Gwinnett, and Fulton. The SAFFT model includes a supervised visitation center, scholarship programs for foster & adopted children, a resource closet, foster and adoptive gatherings including ongoing parent night out events, a domestic violence visitation and exchange program for victims, parenting classes, and a Christian mentoring program. SAFFT’s leadership strongly believes change begins with the entire community including the families in crisis, the children in foster and adoptive care, caregivers supporting the children, and organizations charged with protecting and serving the children and families. Georgia CALLS Reentry Program Welcomes 8 New Participants

March 30, 2015 //  by admin

Georgia CALLS IMG_1716

Georgia CALLS, the Georgia Center For Abundant Living Life Skills, a unique 501(c)3 non-profit helping high-risk, returning citizens make a successful transition from incarceration back into society as business entrepreneurs, recently welcomed eight new participants into their expanding program.

Based in Buford, Georgia CALLS is a reentry program in partnership with the Governor’s Office of Transition, Support & Reentry, the Georgia Department of Corrections, and Phillips Transitional Center that helps to curb recidivism and empower returning citizens to make a positive impact in their communities. The organization recently held a Recruiting Fair, which was well attended by their program partners and supporters, including the Department of Labor, numerous parole officers, the Gwinnett county detention center and others.

Eight new participants from Buford, Conyers, Grayson, Lawrenceville, and Norcross GA, who were released from prison within the last six months, have been accepted into the Georgia CALLS program. They have already completed orientation, which included a Key Ceremony where each new participant was presented with a personalized “blank key” that signified a key that would one day unlock their future business. The dedicated new recruits are currently in training and already fielding live calls at Georgia CALLS onsite call center as Customer Service Representatives.

“The Georgia CALLS reentry program gives individuals who are ready to take on a life-changing experience, the on-the-job training and life skills development needed in order to become the CEO of their lives,” explained Mark Mobley, the new Executive Director of the fast-growing Georgia CALLS. “We’ve had a chance to talk with our newest participants about current challenges and hear them dream about their future. They have each illustrated a desire and passion for an obtainable career. And in turn, we’ve made a commitment to each of them to walk side by side and help them accomplish their goals.”

Upon acceptance into the program, one participant stated, “I’m excited about the job/life skills classes the most. If I’m honest with myself, those are the types of classes that will really help someone like me.”

After working just two weeks in the call center, another new participant explained, “I believe the call center is a success because it’s teaching us how to be a people person. We’re learning how to smile on the inside and deal with our emotions better.”

Summer Recruitment Session

Recruitment will continue in June, when approximately 10 program seats will become available. Georgia CALLS accepts referrals of formerly incarcerated and state supervised individuals looking to get their life back on track after incarceration. The program includes life skills training and paid call center employment.

In support of The Georgia Prisoner Reentry Initiative (GA-PRI), Georgia CALLS is intentional with their selection process. Every individual is thoroughly evaluated during intake. Potential participants must meet requirements which include: have been released from prison within the last 12 months; have reliable transportation; is in compliance with all court-mandated requirements and conditions of parole and/or probation; and are available Monday through Friday during regular program and work hours, as well as other criteria.

According to one of Georgia CALLS’ successful reentry program participants, “I’ve been incarcerated for 11 years and there are some habits and ways that I picked up from being incarcerated that I had to break…but I always knew that I wanted an opportunity. Instead of saying it’s a job, it’s more like a program for life and I enjoy it more and more when I come here.”

Within the program, Georgia CALLS provides social services, which includes intensive case management and the implementation of TAP strategies; unrivaled and newly-developed job/life skills training; paid work experience at its inbound call center, created specifically for this initiative; and optional spiritual development to returning citizens who are seeking a life change.

“Places like Georgia CALLS are necessary because it’s an opportunity for a person who doesn’t have it together, really to get it together,” said another Georgia CALLS reentry program participant.

Georgia CALLS Non-Profit to Hold Grand Opening Ceremony on September 12th

September 9, 2014 //  by admin

GeorgiaCALLS ofcGeorgia CALLS, a unique 501(c)3 non-profit helping high-risk, returning citizens make a successful transition from incarceration back into society as business entrepreneurs, will officially announce their partnership with the Governor’s Office of Transition, Support & Reentry (GOTSR), Georgia Department of Corrections, and Phillips Transitional Center in a Grand Opening Ceremony on Friday, September 12, 2014 at 10 a.m.
The ceremony will be held at the Georgia CALLS custom-designed, pilot work/training facility at 1705 Enterprise Drive in Buford. State officials from all partnering government entities will be in attendance. A representative from the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce will speak along with the non-profit’s Executive Director Jay Reeder. The event will include a ribbon cutting ceremony and tour of the facility, followed by light refreshments.
Georgia CALLS is partnering with the GOTSR, Georgia Department of Corrections, and Phillips Transitional Center in support of The Georgia Prisoner Reentry Initiative (GA-PRI) as a groundbreaking effort to change the way supervised individuals are reintegrated into the community. During the first year of the elite program, Georgia CALLS will provide social services, which includes intensive case management and the implementation of TAP strategies; unrivaled and newly-developed job/life skills training; paid work experience at its inbound call center, created specifically for this initiative; and optional spiritual development to returning citizens who are seeking a life change. The Georgia CALLS re-entry program is designed with excellence by way of intentional training, both in the workplace and through distinguished, all-inclusive job/life skills coaching. Top program graduates will be invited to enter year two where they explore entrepreneurship opportunities that include extensive business and leadership training, executive-level mentoring, and capital funding options that will advocate the launch of new businesses within the community.
According to the GOTSR, together with Superintendent James Payne of Phillips Transitional Center, “Phillips Transitional Center is proud to announce its In-Reach partnership with Georgia CALLS, an organization primarily focused on serving people who were formerly incarcerated. Georgia CALLS will be a partner in providing two (2) major components needed for residents of Phillips Transitional Center to make a successful transition back into society. These two (2) components are: Life Skills Training and Employment.”
Georgia CALLS will employ 24 highly motivated individuals to not only become the CEOs of their lives, but also of their own businesses. The goal of Georgia CALLS’ reentry initiative is to make a direct community impact by transforming mindsets, growing leaders, and building entrepreneurs up, one life at a time. Through a participatory and holistic approach, Georgia CALLS will reduce recidivism and boost economic growth.
“Supporting the transition and reentry for those who have been in prison is an undertaking that government alone can’t do.” – Governor Nathan Deal, Atlanta Rotary Club, December 16, 2013
According to the Georgia Department of Corrections, “Research has shown that offenders who have the opportunity to re-enter the community after a stay in a transitional center are up to a third more likely to succeed in maintaining a crime-free life.” Georgia CALLS is hoping to increase these odds.
Many years in the making, a team varied in skill sets has put forth exceptional effort to make the Georgia CALLS dream become a unique opportunity for success among those in need. Georgia CALLS has built out a custom-designed facility where dedicated staff members are passionate about building up, mentoring, and empowering individuals to become the CEOs of their lives. Furthermore, success is not limited to the community of Buford, Georgia. The Buford facility was intentionally designed as a small pilot site to launch, test, and prove the Georgia CALLS program. Once a favorable outcome is achieved, Georgia CALLS will expand into a much larger operation to serve as many individuals in need as possible.
“The Georgia CALLS initiative will make a lasting change in our communities. It is a unique collaboration between non-profit, for profit, and government entities working together for the common good of society,” explained Reeder.
Georgia CALLS is made up of these powerful components that give program participants the greatest chance at success. 1) Social Services are highly important in providing intensive case management procedures utilizing TAP strategies and “Thinking for a Change” principles. 2) The comprehensive job/life skills training program was finely crafted to expand one’s world-view, teach higher-level executive functioning skills, and motivate individuals to take the necessary steps towards a life transformation. 3) The inbound call center is where participants learn to work, nurture their inner entrepreneurial spirit, generate an income, and gain valuable work experience. 4) Optional Spiritual Growth allows for discipleship classes that encourage individuals to be a positive influence in their home and community.
Reeder continued, “By equipping the population with the tools and support they need to succeed in the community, Georgia CALLS is working with the GOTSR to create safer neighborhoods within the community. At the same time, we are empowering individuals to make a successful life transformation and become the CEOs of their lives.”
