Edgewood LifeCare Community, an award-winning, non-profit independent living LifeCare community, is proud to present an evening with the authors of We are Market Basket – The Story of the Unlikely Grassroots Movement that Saved a Beloved Businesson Thursday, October 29, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. in the Auditorium at Edgewood located at 575 Osgood Street in North Andover. This event is open to the public and there is no cost to attend.

Grant Welker, a reporter for the Lowell Sun, covered the Market Basket story from start to finish. He, along with Daniel Korschun, an Associate Professor of Marketing at Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business and a Fellow at the Center for Corporate Reputation Management, co-authored the book We are Market Basket – The Story of the Unlikely Grassroots Movement that Saved a Beloved Business, and will captivate the audience with the story of Market Basket, a popular New England supermarket chain that is so treasured and trusted that people literally took to the streets by the thousands to save it.

We Are Market Basket coverWelker and Korschun will talk about the struggle for control of Market Basket, from when long-time CEO Arthur T. Demoulas was ousted by his cousin Arthur S. Demoulas and managers and rank-and-file workers walked out, to the huge protest rallies, empty shelves and how they prevailed in the end.

“We anticipate this event to be very well-attended. Not only is it a truly captivating story, but many Edgewood residents shop at our local Market Basket in North Andover,” noted Kathleen D’Amico, Marketing Director at Edgewood.

To reserve a seat, contact Paula Kelley at Edgewood, (978) 738-6446.

Edgewood LifeCare Community Awards Scholarships to Eight High School Students

September 23, 2015 //  by admin

Treasure Cove Scholarship Recipients 2015Edgewood LifeCare Community, an award-winning non-profit senior living community in North Andover, recently awarded scholarships to eight graduating high school seniors, who are employed part-time at Edgewood and continuing on to higher education this fall.

Each received a $500 scholarship stipend to continue their education at a college or vocational school. Recipients had to meet several eligibility requirements, which included being employed at Edgewood for at least six months and working a minimum of 15 hours a week.

The scholarship recipients are employees in Edgewood’s Culinary and Nursing Services departments and include Lawrence residents Carina Anziani who will be attending UMass Lowell, Ana Castillo attending Barry University, Jennifer Flete and Emily Lara attending Northern Essex Community College, Kiana Morales attending Mass. College of Liberal Arts and Dominique Ortiz attending Simmons College.

North Andover resident Matt Caterino will be attending Suffolk University and Laura DelleChiaie of Haverhill will be attending Worcester State University.

Scholarship funding was raised by Edgewood’s Treasure Cove committee. Treasure Cove, an initiative of 10 Edgewood residents, is an on-site consignment shop. Edgewood residents and family members make donations of household items, furniture, and jewelry to Treasure Cove, which are then sold to in-house customers. Treasure Cove holds a sale on the first Monday of every month, and the proceeds are put towards scholarships.

“As our first recipients of Treasure Cove dollars, these students are leading the way for what we anticipate as a bright and successful future collaboration between residents and staff. We thank them for the jobs they have performed so well and wish them the best of luck in all their future endeavors,” said Rachel Penner of Edgewood’s Treasure Cove Committee.

The Treasure Cove committee established the consignment shop in July 2014, and has raised thousands of dollars from the Monday sales they have held so far.

“Many residents who downsized from a large family home, have storage lockers at Edgewood which are chock full of surplus furniture and other items. Residents are delighted that their donations to the Treasure Cove consignment shop will ultimately help graduating seniors reach their educational goals,” explained Kathleen D’Amico, Edgewood’s Marketing Director.

Edgewood LifeCare Community Announces Farm to Table Event on July 23rd

July 15, 2015 //  by admin

_DSC8593-2Edgewood LifeCare Community, the award-winning, non-profit senior living community in North Andover, will hold a farm to table community event entitled “Delicious by Design” on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Edgewood Patio, 575 Osgood Street, North Andover. There is no cost to attend.

Join the Edgewood community as they share their bounty in a fun, educational and interactive Farm to Table event. Attendees may indulge in freshly prepared dishes created by Edgewood’s culinary department, and learn how to cook simple, light and nutritious meals using fresh ingredients from locally sourced farms.

Edgewood obtains fresh produce from two different local farms for the summer – Herb Hill Micro-Dairy Farm in Andover and Simone’s Riverside Farm (a family-run farm with three generations of farmers) in Methuen. Valley View Farm in Topsfield provides fresh goat cheese and award winning ice cream comes from Richardson’s Farm in Middleton.

Farm to Table – a Way of Life at Edgewood

During the spring and summer, Edgewood offers their residents a true farm to table experience every day, using locally sourced ingredients from North Andover and surrounding areas, honey from their beehives, maple syrup tapped from their own maple trees, fresh herbs from their own herbaceous border, and wine that they bottle. They get fresh seafood from Gloucester and Boston and (occasionally) locally sourced pork and chicken. And, they’re always smoking – pork, salmon and brisket – on a regular basis. The culinary experience at Edgewood offers something for every resident’s palate, along with dining choices of two restaurants, private dining and a take-out option.

Seating is limited at the Farm to Table event and a reservation is required. To reserve a seat, RSVP to (978) 208-4230 or online at the Delicious By Design event page, www.edgewoodrc.com.
