Getting an education in education…Plymouth North students earn Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac’s “Driven Student” award for internship program.

June 17, 2009 //  by admin

PLYMOUTH, MA…

Plymouth North High School recently announced a new pilot internship program for students contemplating a career in education. The program pairs students with teachers as special assistants to give them a taste of what it’s like to be a teacher or school administrator. Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac recognized the 12 students who will participate in this program during the 2009-10 school year as winners of the “Driven Students of the Month” for June.

“There’s no more honorable of a profession than being a schoolteacher. It’s commendable that these students who are considering a career in education would start that training when they’re still students themselves. That initiative alone makes them worthy recipients of this month’s Driven Student award,” said Jeff Tracy, president of Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac.

As part of the program, each student will be paired off with a teacher or administrator from a variety of departments: guidance, special education, life skills, journalism, etc. For one period of each school day, the student will work for their mentor to learn more about that particular area of education. For their efforts, these students will earn class credits. More importantly, they’ll receive the experience and background needed to determine if education is a career option they want to pursue.

“We’ve had other successful mentoring and tutoring programs, but this pilot program is our most ambitious effort to date. Essentially, this is the kind of student teaching college students do as part of their degree program. Maybe there are some potential educators in this group, maybe not. But I think teachers and students alike will be learning quite a bit as a result of this program and that’s invaluable,” said Kevin Farrell, Plymouth North’s Freshman House Master.

Students participating in the program include: Elizabeth Lincoln, Christine Rosa, Caleigh Quinn, Michael MacGrath, Johanna Westcott, Catherine Arruda, Kelsey Schranze, Hieu Nguyen, Victoria Ingalls, Mikaela Feroli, Meghan Petrell and Kelsey Lawson. The teachers overseeing the interns include: Bill Burkhead, Justine Naper, Shelly Jaruse, Nancy Rozak, Barbara Gravelle, Brunnie Gethchell and Lee McGee.

As winners of Driven Student of the Month honor, the students and the program’s administrators were treated to a pizza party, courtesy of Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac.

Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac’s Driven Student program recognizes Plymouth high school students for their performance and achievements in and out of the classroom. Awarded on a monthly basis, recipients are selected by faculty and advisors at the student’s given school.

Plymouth North wrestlers pin down Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac’s “Driven Student” award for March.

March 24, 2009 //  by admin

PLYMOUTH, MA…

Whoever coined the phrase “It’s not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game.” probably didn’t have a wrestling team in mind. Yet it certainly applies to Plymouth North’s 2008-09 wrestling team, this month’s winner of the Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac Driven Student of the Month award for March.

The team finished 4-23 in its first year as a new program. Yet according to Coach Mike Grimes, his young grapplers ended the season light years ahead of where we started it. Said Grimes, “We were like any other program in that we had our ups and downs during the season, but there were more good moments than bad ones. You could see the confidence grow in the kids as the season rolled along.”

That confidence also showed itself in the chilly waters of Plymouth Harbor as the Plymouth North wrestlers made a splash at this year’s Polar Plunge, the fundraiser for Jordan Hospital’s cancer unit.  The team received the award for raising the most money for a high school team. Ironically, the team has had its share of difficulties in raising funds to purchase a mat for home meets (they’ve borrowed a mat to date).

As winners of Tracy’s Driven Student of the Month honor, the team was treated to a pizza party and received Tracy pens and key chains, courtesy of Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac.

“The Plymouth North wrestling team is most deserving of this month’s Driven Student award. Not only does it take discipline to be a wrestler, but it takes a real commitment to help start a program and take the lumps that can go along with that. I commend them for their efforts,” said Jeff Tracy, president of Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac.

Members of the 200809 Plymouth North wrestling team include: Frank Aguiar, Eric Brown, Anthony Clark, Kyle Decker, Jon Dee, Gavin Dineen, Glen Drew, Connor Elliot, Josh Hamblin, Justin Maskell, Chris Morse, Hieu Nguyen, Charlie Phachanisiri, Henry Regelado, Matt Ryan, John Sharp, Carlos Solomon, Vincent Tavernelli, Anthony Valero, Drew Wadman, Ben Waltuch and Jared Weinstock.

If you would like to make a contribution to the fund to purchase a wrestling mat for Plymouth North High School, please contact Kevin Farrell, Freshman Housemaster, at 508-830-0101.

The people who make it so easy to buy a car…Tracy Chevrolet-Cadillac hires Collins, Dwyer and Lee.

November 19, 2008 //  by admin

PLYMOUTH, MA…

Buying a car is not an easy process for many people. For starters, it’s a huge financial commitment and nobody wants to make a decision they’ll later regret. That’s why Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac hires sales consultants who not only have superior product knowledge and expertise but also share the dealership’s straightforward, easygoing approach with customers.

Recently, Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac hired three members of its sales force to the title of Senior Sales Consultant: Harry Collins, Steve Dwyer and Gary Lee.

Harry Collins was hired in July as a sales consultant. He holds a bachelor’s of science degree in psychology from UMass-Boston and has more than eight years selling for General Motors dealerships. Collins resides in Abington with his wife Marlo and is active with Metro Boston Alive, a group that raise money to provide Christmas gifts for children.

Steve Dwyer was hired earlier this year as a sales consultant. A Plymouth resident, he has more than 30 years’ experience in sales, with nine years selling at General Motors dealerships.

Gary Lee was hired as finance manager earlier in 2008. He attended UMass Boston and has more than 13 years working for General Motors dealerships. Lee resides in Brockton with his wife Donna and their children Jasmine and Demall.

“Harry, Steve and Gary possess all the key qualities we look for in our sales professionals. They have the knowledge of the automobiles we sell, which is key, but know how to develop a rapport with customers that puts them at ease, and that’s probably even more important. We’re pleased and proud to have these three individuals on board,” said Jeff Tracy, president of Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac.
