September 11, 2016 //  by admin

With 134 runners and walkers, Georgia CALLS’ first annual “Race for Restoration 5K & Fun Run” held on August 20th at Little Mulberry Park in Dacula was a success and raised essential funds for local families in need.

With a focus on homeless families and the restoration and rebuilding of the family unit for the sake of the children, the Race for Restoration was a fundraiser for Georgia CALLS, a unique 501c3 organization that helps families recover from homelessness and lack of employment.

Families and children (a number of them accompanied by pets) took part in the race or cheered their loved ones on. Jay Reeder, Georgia CALLS’ Chief Catalyst and board member and VoiceNation’s CEO, participated in the event with his wife, Melissa and their three children. Mark Mobley, Georgia CALLS’ Executive Director was the Master of Ceremonies. Chopper, the beloved mascot of the Gwinnett Braves, enthusiastically encouraged everyone along during the race.

Runners Pedram Esmaelzadeh, the overall male winner and Ramona Stutlz, the overall female winner, received trophies and gift cards to Big Peach Running Company in Suwanee. Additionally, the top male and female finishers in each age group (from 10 and under to 65 and up) were awarded medals.

Georgia CALLS would like to thank their sponsors: VoiceNation, Walmart in Collins Hill, Chick-Fil-A, Classic City Running in Buford, Dr. Bill Morrison, O.D., Mike Thomas State Farm Insurance Agency, Costco, Kona Ice of Gwinnett, Panera Bread, Waffle House, Big Peach Running Company of Suwanee, Rewriting Our Story, YouScore.net, Angecansew, C&A Johnson Plumbing Service of Gwinnett and Lamar Advertising of Atlanta.

“We were very pleased with such a terrific turnout, as this is our first fundraising 5K. All proceeds raised will address the immediate need of five Georgia CALLS’ program participants and their families in need of stable housing and support,” said Mark Mobley, Executive Director of Georgia CALLS.

He continued, “Thank you to our amazing team of volunteers from the community and our sister business, VoiceNation, as well as our wonderful sponsors, who not only helped to provide a great race environment, but who, along with the racers, are providing hope for housing and care to our program participants.”

Georgia CALLS Rebrands and Announces Expanded Mandate and Services

July 29, 2016 //  by admin

Ga Calls Logo - Vertical-TagThe face of homelessness has changed. Families make up nearly 40 percent of all who are homeless. In Gwinnett County, the average age of a homeless child is just six years old. Georgia CALLS, a 501c3 organization that started as a life transformation ministry by serving the formerly incarcerated, has expanded into a family transformation ministry. The nonprofit has rebranded and announced an expanded mandate and services.

Now, in addition to their unique reentry program that serves the state of Georgia in its commitment to helping formerly incarcerated and state supervised individuals develop critical job and life skills while providing much-needed work opportunities, Georgia CALLS helps families in distress recover from homelessness and lack of employment.

With a new mission to help rebuild and reestablish families, Georgia CALLS helps families in the North Gwinnett/South Hall County area in a number of ways – from teaching job skills and helping to provide steady employment, to leading them through a unique personal development program; providing personalized case management and counseling, and helping to acquire stable housing. Georgia CALLS program consists of these key parts: Call Center Employment, Stable Housing, Social Services, Job/Life Skills, Reentry Program and Spiritual Growth (which is optional).

Stark Statistics

In 2014, Georgia had the fifth highest unemployment rating and sixth highest poverty rating in the U.S. and ranked as the eighth highest in food stamp use percentage.

According to State Corrections of Georgia, 60 percent of inmates in Georgia are parents, and a number of these parents have been incarcerated more than once. The Gwinnett Coalition estimates there are 6,000 homeless kids in Gwinnett County, and as of March 2016, the Gwinnett County School system was accommodating almost 2,000 known homeless students.

“As it turns out, homeless families are not as uncommon as one might think in our community,” explained Mark Mobley, Georgia CALLS’ Executive Director. “This is why Georgia CALLS exists. We’ve helped reunite 40 children with their parents just over the past year.”

To learn more about Georgia CALLS’ new mission and how they are working to build hope for generations to come, visit http://www.gacalls.org/about-us.

The Campus Dream Project

Georgia CALLS is currently fundraising for their Campus Dream Project, which is a new space to accommodate their expanding program, additional staff, and the costs to build-out that custom-designed, work/training facility. The Campus Dream Project is a comprehensive solution-focused model that will meet the needs of both individuals and families searching for hope and a second chance in society. Campus Dream is Georgia CALLS on a grand scale, with numerous work opportunities, job/life skills training, transitional housing, a food bank, tutoring, after school programs, and childcare.

Mobley continued, “Georgia CALLS is five years into building a brand new approach that helps solve the problem instead of just meeting short-term needs. Our goal is not just to meet needs but to change lives and restore families.”

Georgia CALLS Temporarily Relocates to Larger Space. Fundraising for Campus Dream Project Continues

March 24, 2016 //  by admin

Ga Calls Logo - Vertical-TagGeorgia CALLS, the Georgia Center For Abundant Living Life Skills, a unique 501(c)3 non-profit helping high-risk, returning citizens make a successful transition from incarceration back into society as business entrepreneurs, has temporarily relocated to a larger space to accommodate their significant growth.

Georgia CALLS has outgrown their 1800 sq. ft. space at 1705 Enterprise Drive, Suite B, in Buford and relocated to the 3600 sq. ft. space next door at Suite A. The move is temporary while they continue fundraising for the Campus Dream Project.

Just one year after launching, Georgia CALLS completely ran out of space in their building. The new location provides daily staff with plenty of desk and storage space, which they lacked prior to the move. Georgia CALLS will now be able to hold daily training classes and counseling sessions at the same time. The call center area has also been expanded and can now accept additional program participants.

“This move means that we are able to assist more individuals with transitioning and reentering the community. It is exciting to see the program growing along with the growth and development of the participants,” explained Katie Ellison, Counselor/Case Worker at Georgia CALLS.

Georgia CALLS’ participants have also expressed that they are pleased with the move as it gives them more space to do their daily activities and allows them a chance to expand and progress.

Prior to moving in to the new space, Georgia CALLS had to make renovations, which included new carpet, paint, wiring and the expansion of the area utilized for classrooms and training. A team of 20 VoiceNation staff members participating in the Employee Volunteer Program assisted with the renovations and setup of the facility for the call center environment.

“Now we have space to grow and add more participants, thus opening the door for greater vision expansion in who we are able to help and how many,” explained Mark Mobley, Executive Director of Georgia CALLS. “Occupying this space is a temporary solution until we are able to reach our goal to have a full training and workplace facility to fulfill the full vision of Georgia CALLS.”

Georgia CALLS is fundraising for Phase I of their Campus Dream Project, which includes a new space to accommodate their expanding program, additional staff, and the costs to build-out that custom-designed, work/training facility.

The Campus Dream Project is a comprehensive solution-focused model that will meet the needs of both individuals and families searching for a second chance as they reintegrate with society. Campus Dream is Georgia CALLS on a grand scale, with numerous work opportunities, job/life skills training, transitional housing, a food bank, tutoring, after school programs, and childcare.

Mobley continued, “Our Campus Dream Project will enable us to have the greatest impact in the community as possible. It will help us achieve generational change to break the cycle of recidivism.”

About SAFFT

Supporting Adoption & Foster Families Together (SAFFT), is a non-profit organization with a mission to protect children, rebuild families, and empower caregivers. Through years of working with hundreds of children and families, SAFFT discovered that families in crisis are part of a generational cycle passed down to children causing decades of family abuse, addiction, child neglect, homelessness, unemployment, and severe poverty. Since early 2009, SAFFT has successfully developed and implemented multiple programs of support at the ground level in Forsyth County Georgia and supports neighboring counties including Cherokee, Dawson, Hall, Gwinnett, and Fulton. The SAFFT model includes a supervised visitation center, scholarship programs for foster & adopted children, a resource closet, foster and adoptive gatherings including ongoing parent night out events, a domestic violence visitation and exchange program for victims, parenting classes, and a Christian mentoring program. SAFFT’s leadership strongly believes change begins with the entire community including the families in crisis, the children in foster and adoptive care, caregivers supporting the children, and organizations charged with protecting and serving the children and families.
