ABINGTON,MA, ALLSTON,MA, BEDFORD, MA, BOSTON, MA, CAMBRIDGE, MA, COHASSET, MA,  DEDHAM, MA, EASTON, MA, FRAMINGHAM, MA, FRANKLIN, MA, HANOVER, MA, HINGHAM, MA, MARSHFIELD, MA, NATICK, MA, NEEDHAM, MA, NEWTONVILLE, MA, NORTON, MA, QUINCY, MA,  WALPOLE, MA, WESTFORD, MA, WESTWOOD, MA and WILMINGTON, MA…

Each year, Lapels Dry Cleaning stores across the country host clothing drives to benefit Big Brother/Big Sister organizations.  With seven states participating in this year’s drive, held May 2 to May 17, customers donated 8875 pounds of clothes at Massachusetts stores (Lapels Dry Cleaning of Cohasset customers donated the most at 1725 pounds);  11565 overall. That has a value of $11,565 or a $1 per pound.

As impressive as the weight of the clothes might be, what it represents to Big Brothers Big Sisters organizations is the real value of the drive. The clothes donated will be resold at various thrift shops and other second hand clothing stores, helping to fund Big Brothers Big Sisters programs in Arizona, Connecticut, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Jersey and Rhode Island.

“This annual event has benefitted hundreds of people involved in the Big Brother/Big Sister organization across the country,” said Steven Beck, executive director Big Brother Big Sister Foundation. “We can’t thank Lapels Dry Cleaning enough for putting this annual drive together and to their customers for their generous donations.”

By state, Lapels Dry Cleaning customers donated:

  • Massachusetts – 8857
  • Arizona – 437
  • Connecticut – 438
  • Missouri – 50
  • New Jersey – 1098
  • Rhode Island – 340
  • Louisiana – 345

“The simplest way to put it is our customers care. They care that their clothes are cleaned in an environmentally friendlier way and they care about their fellow citizens in the community,” said Kevin Dubois, CEO of Lapels Dry Cleaning, an environmentally friendly dry cleaner with more than 70 locations nationwide. “What’s really impressive about our customers’ generosity is that these donations take place over a two-week period. That’s a lot of clothes in a very short period.”

Lapels has pioneered its eco-friendly dry cleaning experience for the past 12 years. Using the latest technology in equipment and cleaning solution, Lapels is one of the few dry cleaners in the U.S. able to boast that there is no hazardous waste in their process. Their environmentally-friendly cleaning process has no odor and is gentler on clothes, thus lengthening the life of clothes. At Lapels you can see, feel and smell the difference.

Lapels customers are greeted to a warm and inviting reception area, with friendly customer service representatives, and a full service on-site tailor.

Lapels offers its customers Automatic Rewards earning them credit towards free dry cleaning for every dollar they spend, Loyalty Programs, a VIP Program which eliminates the need to wait in line and the use of a 24 Hour Drop Off Service. Same day service is also available with pick-up after 5 pm.

Lapels Dry Cleaning redefines “The Future of Dry Cleaning” with operational improvements and new technologies

Lapels Dry Cleaning's new technologies

May 18, 2015 //  by admin

Lapels Dry Cleaning's new technologies
Lapels incorporates new technologies for franchise owners

HANOVER, MA…

For its commitment to green practices and more efficient operations, Lapels Dry Cleaning has earned its signature line as ‘the future of dry cleaning’. With its latest series of technology and operational improvements, however, Lapels Dry Cleaning has demonstrated the future is now.

“I grew up in the restaurant and hospitality business where you have to continually improve workflow and efficiency in order to stay ahead of increasing costs. I brought that same mentality to the dry cleaning industry,” said Kevin Dubois, CEO of Lapels Dry Cleaning and co-author of Entrepreneurial Insanity in the Dry Cleaning Business. “For decades this industry saw little to no change in technology – and now what is happening is so exciting.”

Made exclusively for Lapels Dry Cleaning franchise owners, the new dry cleaning machine combines the world’s only non-hazardous cleaning solution with the most efficient run time in the industry.  Unlike most other dry cleaning processes, the new machine heats the solvent, which reduces dry times. The new dry cleaning machine also features an onboard computer to provide maximum efficiency in programming and operation.

“The combination of new equipment, improved programming through trial and error and heating the dry cleaning solvent has resulted in a 53-minute dry time, a reduction in more than 20 percent from where we were,” said Dubois. “That improvement translates into a faster turnaround time, which improves the customer experience and increases retention.”

Adds Dubois, “The beauty of these improvements is how much it benefits our franchise owners as well. With a more efficient dry time, they can clean more clothes, making them more profitable.”

In addition to operational improvements, Lapels has introduced technology to improve the customer experience as well. In 2014, Lapels made a smart phone app available to its customers. The app enables customers to schedule deliveries and pickups, notify the store that they are on their way in and view their receipts as well as a number of other functions.

“A huge part of being greener is to use less energy—electricity, gas for your vehicle,” said Dubois. “The technology improvements we have made make it faster for clothes to be cleaned and make it more efficient for customers to receive their clothes. And that’s a scenario where we all win.”

BOSTON, MA and HANOVER, MA…

Lapels Dry Cleaning of Boston Seaport may have opened its doors at 415 D Street in South Boston a few months but it has not taken the dry cleaner long to open its heart to the local community. Case in point, Lapels Dry Cleaning of Boston Seaport recently kicked off a coat drive to benefit St. Francis House, a homeless shelter located at 39 Boylston Street in Boston.

“It’s winter in Boston and it’s cold. I can’t even imagine what it’s like to not have a warm place to stay and an adequate coat to wear,” said Scott Goddess, owner of Lapels Dry Cleaning of Boston Seaport. “The St. Francis House does wonderful work in providing a shelter, clothing and other services for the homeless. We’re hoping this drive can provide some warmth to as many of its residents as possible.”

Lapels Dry Cleaning of Boston Seaport will be collecting coats at its Boston Seaport location until January 31. The coats do not have to be cleaned to be donated. Lapels Dry Cleaning of Boston will take care of that.

Coats can be donated during store hours. Lapels Dry Cleaning of Boston Seaport is open Monday through Friday, 7 am to 7 pm; Saturday 8 am to 5 pm; and Sunday, 12pm to 3 pm.

“We take pride in the fact that our franchise owners are not only a part of the business community but make themselves part of the entire community they serve. Each year dozens of Lapels owners participate in clothing drives that generate literally tons of donations from our customers,” said Kevin Dubois, CEO of Lapels Dry Cleaning, which is based in Hanover, MA. “We applaud Scott and his team at Lapels Dry Cleaning of Boston Seaport and their effort on behalf of St. Francis House.”

In addition to providing food, shelter and clothing for the homeless, St. Francis House offers a number of other services. Those include: showers; medical care; legal assistance; mental health and substance abuse counseling; employment services; housing counseling; next step housing program; moving ahead programs; art therapy; pastoral counseling; and referral services.

For information about St. Francis House information, visit www.stfrancishouse.org.

Said Tailwind Systems Owner Don DesRosiers, “Smart people are not the ones that know everything; they are the ones that have a thirst for knowledge.  A smart person is a sponge, and in Ben’s case, with no experience in this business, he never once pretended that he knew everything.  Instead, he has proved to be one of my best students.”

Tailwind is a tagging, assembly, work-flow management and labor saving system that saves dry cleaning plant owners tens of thousands annually. Tailwind Systems products include Tailwind Shirt System, the Tailwind System for Drycleaning, Firestorm for Restoration Drycleaning, the Tailwind System for Automated Assembly and Tailwind for Hotel Valet. Lapels Dry Cleaning employs Tailwind Systems in all their franchise locations across the country.

“One of the many things that drew me to purchase a Lapels Dry Cleaning franchise was the systems in place that are tailor-made for people from any walk of life to be successful. Key among those was the Tailwind System,” said Marshall, who also owns Lapels Dry Cleaning of Hanover. “Being recognized by an industry expert like Don after being completely new to the dry cleaning business just a few years ago is more than I could have imagined when I was starting out. It’s really quite an honor.”

In addition to Tailwind Systems, Lapels employs a number of systems to create an eco-friendly dry cleaning experience. Most recently, Lapels signed a partnership agreement with GreenEarth®, the dry cleaning industry’s only non-toxic cleaning alternative for its newer locations.  Using these kinds of solutions and the latest technology in equipment, Lapels is one of the few dry cleaners able to boast that there is no hazardous waste in their process. Their environmentally-friendly cleaning process has no odor and is gentler on clothes, thus lengthening the life of clothes.

Lapels Dry Cleaning also sets itself apart with its customer service. Lapels customers are greeted to a warm and inviting reception area, with friendly customer service representatives, and alteration services.

Lapels offers it’s customers Automatic Rewards earning them credit towards free dry cleaning for every dollar they spend, Loyalty Programs, a VIP Program which eliminates the need to wait in line, the use of a 24 Hour Drop Off Service and FREE Home Delivery to all its customers. Same day service is also available with pick-up after 5 pm.

“Congratulations to Ben and the team at Lapels Dry Cleaning of Hingham,” said Kevin Dubois, CEO of Lapels Dry Cleaning. “The Tailwinds Systems are the best of the best dry cleaning systems out there and being recognized by Don really is quite an accomplishment.”

Franchise veteran Gerry Pelissier joins Lapels Dry Cleaning management team

Gerry Pelissier

HANOVER, MA…

Lapels Dry Cleaning, an innovative, environmentally friendly dry cleaning company headquartered in Hanover, Massachusetts, recently announced the appointment of Gerry Pelissier as the franchisor’s Vice President of Operations. In this role, Pelissier will work directly with Lapels franchisees in the areas of marketing, day-to-day operations and brand-building.

“Our franchisees come from many walks of life. Some are veteran business owners and previous owners of other franchises. For some, this is their first time out. With Gerry’s extensive experience as both a franchisor and franchisee, he can provide our franchisees with guidance and mentoring as needed,” said Kevin Dubois, CEO of Lapels Dry Cleaning.

Pelissier was the co-founder of the New England Coffee Chain Quikava Gourmet Coffees and he served as the company’s president and CEO for more than 19 years. He also owned and operated several franchise concepts including Snip-its, Resort Maps and, most recently, Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt Shops where he spearheaded the first marketing co-op in the company.

So, why Lapels Dry Cleaning and why this role?

“When you have been in franchising as long as I have, it becomes pretty easy to spot the successful franchises from the not-so-successful ones. Lapels Dry Cleaning has the product—an environmentally friendly way to clean clothes—and the multitude of programs that make it possible for every franchise owner to be successful,” said Pelissier. “In this role, I can work directly with franchise owners to help them take their business to the next level.”

Lapels Dry Cleaning franchisees own and operate more than 60 locations nationwide, employing its eco-friendly dry cleaning process. The most recent enhancement to this process came earlier this year when Lapels signed a partnership agreement with GreenEarth®, the dry cleaning industry’s only non-toxic cleaning alternative for its newer locations.
