DirectBuy, the leading members-only showroom and home design center that offers merchandise direct from manufacturers and their authorized suppliers, is proud to announce that franchise owners Mark and Kim Gower recently were the recipients of a prestigious customer service rating award – Top Customer Service Rating Center of the Year.

“We are extremely proud to have received this prestigious award. Helping our members to realize their dreams is remarkably rewarding for us as DirectBuy franchise owners,” said Kim Gower. “Working to constantly improve customer service is something our service staff takes very seriously. DirectBuy centers had the opportunity to qualify for Customer Service Rating Center of the Year, by excelling in several key customer service areas during a 12-month qualification period. To earn this award, centers were graded and awarded points to determine their Customer Service Rating based on feedback from actual customers using a survey designed in collaboration with Maritz Research.

Maritz surveyed DirectBuy customers and asked them to rate their experience based on ten different steps in the life of a member – from their initial new member orientation through to their shopping experiences and beyond. The survey was designed in collaboration with DirectBuy franchisees from throughout their network that had attended training with Maritz at The Disney Institute in Orlando, FL and using DirectBuy’s Service Theme and Service Standards as a guide. Maritz then translated the survey feedback into a scoring system to determine a customer service rating for each of DirectBuy’s 160 locations.

DirectBuy of South Orange County received on-stage recognition at the International Sales & Service Conference, a plaque commemorating their achievement, as well as recognition in BuyLines – the company’s network wide newsletter.

Groomathon to benefit MSPCA. DirectBuy of BostonSouth, Rockland, to host pet grooming event on Saturday, Jan. 31

On Saturday, January 31, it will truly be a dog’s day at the DirectBuy of Boston South located near the Rockland/Hingham line and just off Route 228. At that time, the local Zoomin’ Groomin’ van will be at the 10 Commerce Road location to offer grooming services for the pets of DirectBuy members and the general public. All proceeds from the event will go to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

“Winter months are kind of a tough time for keeping your pets clean. You don’t want to wash them outside and unless you’ve got a dedicated area in your house for cleaning your pet, it means using one of your tubs or sinks,” said John Massaria, owner of DirectBuy of Boston South. “By hosting this event, we’re providing a service for our pet-owning members and pet owners from the general public and we are raising money for a very worthy cause, the MSPCA.”

The pet grooming event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. as the Zoomin’ Groomin vans will be in the parking lot of DirectBuy of Boston South. While there is no charge to have your pets groomed, the recommended donation is $50-$100. One hundred percent of that money will be donated to MSPCA.

“We’re pet groomers by trade, but the reality is we’re pet lovers, too. An event like this not only provides a nice service for fellow pet lovers and gives us a chance to showcase our service, but it also raises awareness to the good work the MSPCA does and you can’t put a price tag on that,” said Jeff Loomis, owner of Zoomin Groomin franchise.

DirectBuy of Long Beach donates to Lydia’s House

Long Beach, CA – DirectBuy, the leading members-only showroom and home design center that offers merchandise direct from manufacturers and their authorized suppliers, is proud to announce that DirectBuy of Long Beach had the distinct privilege of donating unwrapped toys, clothing, gifts and other charitable items to the Lydia’s House Women’s Shelter.

The owners of DirectBuy of Long Beach, accompanied by some of their staff members, visited the women and children of Lydia’s House on December 22, 2008 to present them with the donated gifts. “We set up in front of the Christmas tree in the living room while all of the house residents sat around,” explained John Remar, co-owner of DirectBuy Long Beach. “We started calling off names and the children came running at us. It was such a great experience and very heart warming.” After the children opened their gifts, the DirectBuy staff were given a tour of Lydia’s House and gained further knowledge of the facilit’s operations.

Lydia’s House is a women’s shelter for single mothers and victims of abuse and works to provide transitional housing, goal-oriented support services and access to community resources for more than 275 local women and their children. In partnership with volunteers and donors – such as DirectBuy of Long Beach – Lydia’s House works to end domestic violence by continuing to provide a place of healing and a voice of hope.

Adopting a local shelter for the holidays was a goal of the owners as well as the entire staff, who wanted to give back to a community that has helped them so much over the years. “We felt the need to give back to those that our less fortunate than ourselves considering how the economy is suffering,” said Remar. “We hope that our contributions will make a huge impact on the women and children of Lydia’s House in the coming year.”

DirectBuy of Long Beach reached out to their members to ask for their help in donating gifts and money to Lydia’s House by hosting two full weeks of sharing from December 6 to December 21. Everything from word-of-mouth to email blasts were used to promote the program to staff and members, and the team at DirectBuy also designed and displayed a wish list of gifts and donation box in the showroom lobby to increase the program’s visibility with members.

DirectBuy plays Santa for robbery victim.

For Jose Lacen, Christmas easily could have been ruined when thieves took his television, some cash and the presents for his two daughters. But no matter the amount of material items the thieves stole, they couldn’t take his Christmas spirit. Touched by Lacen’s story, DirectBuy of Boston South, the leading members-only and home improvement center, helped to spread more of that spirit by replacing the stolen television.

DirectBuy of Boston South Owner John Massaria, along with Sales Manager Marc Brennan, delivered the 37-inch flat screen to Lacen’s Roslindale home. It was a gift sent from heaven for Lacen, confined to a wheelchair since an illness left him in a coma for a month back in 2000, who relies on the television for company.

“When we heard about what happened to Jose, and his unwillingness to give up, it wasn’t a question of could we help him out, but how quickly,” said Massaria.

In addition to delivering the television, Massaria and Brennan set up a DVD player that another well-wisher had dropped off earlier. Massaria also arranged for Comcast to upgrade his wiring for the new television set.

DirectBuy of Boston South’s gifts were but a few Lacen received after word of his plight got out. Among the items contributed by other “secret Santas” were replacement gifts for his 10-year-old and 18-year-old daughters.

Said Lacen, “So many people have been so kind and that’s something I’ll never take for granted. I’ve been blessed all over the place.”

Added Massaria, “It’s unfortunate what happened to Jose but the response to his situation shows that the good and decent people are many and that the Christmas spirit is still very much alive.”

Mercedes Zoldos a “star” at DirectBuy’s international conference

Mercedes Zoldos, Orchard Park resident and service manager at DirectBuy of Buffalo, didn’t necessarily leave her heart in San Francisco. Yet it’s quite likely she will remember San Francisco for quite some time after being recognized as one of DirectBuy’s “service stars” at DirectBuy’s international sales and conference last month in the city by the bay.

Robert Sarai, the innovative restaurateur of Fitness Pizza & Grill, and the newly minted Versai the Wine Bar, knows his neighbors need help after suffering losses caused by recent fires that destroyed more than 150 homes in the city.

Teaming up with DirectBuy of Orange County, the versatile Sarai announced plans to host a wine and food event on Wednesday, January 14, at his elegant wine bar to help contribute relief to fire victims. The event will run from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. 

He states, “We are all affected when disaster strikes, and our impulse is first to help our neighbors and support their rebuilding efforts. We will pull out all stops to make this event delicious, effervescent, and memorable.”

Sarai, a DirectBuy member, was thrilled when Geoff and Ann Rocke, co-owners of the members-only showroom, offered guests at the event the chance to win a free DirectBuy membership. So, in addition to an evening of fabulous food, wine and entertainment, the $85 cost for admission gives each attendee an automatic entry in the drawing for the membership, valued in excess of $5,000.00.

Moreover, Sarai has added that 50 percent of all proceeds for the event be donated to victims of the fires. Guests can sample wines from the Old and New worlds with plenty to eat. These dishes include a cheese-fruit platter, beef and chicken kabob sauté, coconut shrimp, crab cakes, kobe beef lobster and spinach ravioli, finished with an assortment of desserts. “You can be assured that no one participating in this fundraiser will go away hungry,” Sarai asserts.

“Robert is a fine person, makes delicious food, pours and sells a variety of wines, and is an outstanding member of the business community in Yorba Linda.  I am also proud he is a happy member of DirectBuy,” Rocke says. “We live in a great place, and when something as unpredictable as wild fires attacks our community, we’ve got to step up to help.”
