South Shore Dermatologist Featured as Lecturer at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York

Dr. Richard Eisen, a Board Certified Dermatologist at South Shore Skin Center, was recently a guest lecturer at Albert Einstein College of Medicine –Yeshiva University, Bronx, New York. South Shore Skin Center is one of the most progressive dermatology practices in Massachusetts offering a wide range of medical, surgical and cosmetic services. Dr. Eisen, who is the founding physician of South Shore Skin Center, taught Albert Einstein resident physicians and other attendees about photodynamic therapy and the latest treatments for Actinic Keratoses (AKs); pre-cancerous skin lesions and superficial skin cancers. The theoretical basis and practical aspects of treatment with Levulan (Dusa Pharmaceuticals) and the newest drug, Metvixia were discussed.

According to the American Cancer Society, skin cancer is the most common of all cancers and the skin cancer Melanoma causes the most skin cancer deaths. Photodynamic Therapy is used to treat AKs, pre-cancerous growths as well as skin cancer. The therapy combines a photosensitizing drug with a specific type of light to eliminate cancer cells.

Dr. Eisen is a recognized expert in laser therapy and a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology; the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery and the American Society of Lasers in Medicine and Surgery. He recently attended the American Society of Dermatological Surgery’s lectures in Orlando, Florida on new technology for skin cancer screening as well as the latest surgical techniques in dermatology and the latest advanced treatments with lasers.

Katherine J. Ayers, M.D. Joins South Shore Skin Center

Katherine J. Ayers, M.D., a board certified dermatologist, has joined South Shore Skin Center of Cohasset and Plymouth and is accepting new patients. South Shore Skin Center is one of Massachusetts’ most progressive dermatology practices offering a wide range of medical, surgical and cosmetic services to thousands of patients south of Boston.

Dr. Ayers will treat both medical and cosmetic patients at South Shore Skin Center.  Her cosmetics practice will include Botox, Fillers and laser treatments.

In addition to caring for patients at South Shore Skin Center, Dr. Ayers is on the Associate Staff of Jordan Hospital in Plymouth and the Affiliate Staff of South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and a member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery: Massachusetts Medical Society; the American Medical Women’s Association; the American Medical Association and the Iowa Dermatological Society.

Dr. Ayers graduated from University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester and went on to serve as a resident in Dermatology at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, which is one of the nation’s premier institutions for dermatology training.

Caring for people is a family business for Dr. Ayers. Both her father, Frederick Ayers, and one of her brothers, Michael Ayers are orthopedic surgeons at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. Her other brother, Timothy Ayers, is an Anesthesiologist at both Jordan Hospital in Plymouth and Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. Her sister is a nurse midwife and her mother is a nurse.
